Tony Abbott, young boy of eleven, bright eyed and ready to begin his education at Hogwarts, waited by the rickety wooden rowboat. This was it, he was going to be finally meet his hero and crush, Professor Slughorn. Many an hour had been spend gazing at his only picture of the man and at last he would have the chance to see him in the flesh. Finally…at long last.
Tony stepped into the boat, heart racing, this was it. In the distance Hogwarts slowly grew closer.
Alas it was not to be. For, mere meters from the docks, a voice from the dark was heard.
“Stop the boats,” echoed through the night.
“Turn back the boats!”
Those words would forever haunt Tony and shape his future.

This is The Atlantic's full foreign policy interview series with President Obama that the New York Times mentioned today. It's a substantial read, but I found it an educational look at his perspective on affairs of state. Laypeople don't often have access to this kind of information about decision-making. Significantly, it feels more sincere than we're used to seeing, since he's at the end of his tenure and doesn't have to worry about his comments risking re-election prospects.
Whatever your opinion on the Obama presidency, this rare insight into some of the foreign policy decisions of the past 8 years will hopefully be informative.
