Depends where in the US you are. I'd say East Coast in general has the worst police relationship with the public.

How does this work?

UKIP have a vote very spread out over England and Wales (mostly), so they have a relatively large number of voters but only had a majority of voters over the other parties in a single constituency.

Scotland, which is much more thinly populated than England, has a number of seats disproportionate to its population. The SNP secured majorities in all but three of the Scottish constituencies, scoring a massive number of seats from a relatively small voter base.
