Many soldiers have been detained by police forces and pro-coup helicopters have been shot down by F-16s.
Man, if Erdogan wins this, secularism is pretty much dead in Turkey.
Then again, I guess if that's what the populace wants then whatever.

Sounds like the coup is not going too well.
Though that said my off the cuff reaction to all this is, "well, yeah." He's bad for Turkey, he's bad for Turkey's neighbors, and he's bad for Turkey's allies.
If anything, it's amazing he's lasted this long.
If he's won/winning, I haven't been able to spectate so I wouldn't know!
It imploded fairly quickly
Well, he's a paranoid, Islamist dictator who has repeatedly irritated key allies, done significant damage to the economy, and decided it'd be a great idea to poke Putin in the eye.
This feels really bizarre to me, but apparently this was something people aren't really surprised by? Like, apparently it was bunch of colonels who did it and by all accounts, just a terribly planned coup.
Because the impression I'm getting is that Erdogan is legit terrible and that this is going to make everything worse.
Why is a Kurd state a bad thing again?
Well for Turkey it's because it doesn't want to surrender its territory even when it ISN'T run by a megalomaniac. For most other parties worth mentioning it mostly doesn't matter except with relation to how the Turks feel about it. Of course outside of Turkey, Iraqi Kurdistan is de facto a sovereign state and the Kurds there are extremely interested in their cousins in Syria and Turkey.

Welp, now I know why my mom sent me a message at 7 in the morning that she's happy she chose not to fly back through Istanbul.
Also gj on jobbing hard and giving Erdogan more reason to move towards whatever wonderland he wants Turkey to be.
