I am of the full and complete opinion that the optics of that particular phrase are so awful that there will not be any legitimate changes, changes that are vital and needed I might add, simply by virtue of how easy it is to co-opt and weaponize it against the movement.
it is so bad that “defund the police” is in and of itself is enough that it has prevented, is preventing, and will in the future prevent the sweeping reforms that are nessasary.
to return to a point I made a few pages back, I am near convinced that when the movement to reign in the police began to materialize, a savvy operator on the other side saw it occurring in real time and starting tweeting or otherwise using the slogan hoping it would take off so that it would cripple the movement and it did so far beyond his wildest hopes and dreams
