It's more like people just don't care. It's the "it will never happen to me" mentality. Like up here in Canada I can kind of understand the devil may care attitude, because we have free health care. But down in the US where getting Covid may leave you with tens of thousands of dollars in hospital bills that you can't pay because the economy is falling apart, it just boggles my mind.
The dichotomy is actually rather interesting since everyone thinks they'll win the lottery which is a 1/292,000,000 chance (Powerball), but no one thinks they'll get Covid which is about a 1/27 chance.

Partly, but more I think it's a degree of apathy about our own survival in the face of an uncertain threat versus a certain
one. Down here, if we have a full shutdown, there's a high likelihood that the economic hit will destroy our jobs and careers and render us without the basic needs to survive. Unemployment isn't enough for most of us to live on and the bureaucracy involved in getting it, even at the best of times, takes weeks. With large numbers of people signing up for it, it's closer to months in a country where most people can't afford to miss a single paycheck. That's a lot of potentially homeless, starving people, out on the streets during a plague and at winter. Even if you survive, bouncing back from it is nearly impossible.
On top of that, there are plenty of older people who adhere to the "Better Dead Than Red" mentality and would literally rather die than become a Public Charge. Especially among Conservatives. There's very much an attitude of "If I catch it and die, it happens, but I'll die if I don't work, too." Add into that an unwillingness to compromise on the things we feel are emotionally important to us, the lack of resources to adapt those things to a pandemic-safe form, and fatigue and offense over the safety precautions needed to control the spread, and you've got a perfect breeding ground for it.

By now it's also fatigue. It's been fucking months already with no real end in sight (yeah, yeah, anytime now Pfizer will come to save us all while nobly sacrificing themselves by making gorillions for themselves. We're almost there. Sure we are. Yeah). People were on the edge constantly at the start, but by now everyone's just so fed up of being on the lookout that they're just like "whatever will happen, will happen".
Goes double for those who simply don't have the economic leverage to do anything but go out an earn a living every day or starve across the world.

Those people also being the ones least likely to be able to afford the vaccine. Or the Coronavirus test.
Not counting the folks who'll become reservoirs for the virus simply because they refuse to get the vaccine out of paranoia (be it anti-government, Big Pharma, Mark of the Beast, or just simple "I'll catch it from the vaccine" and side-effect fears) or religious beliefs opposed to certain medical practices.
And of course, if we don't get it under control domestically, our failure will ensure it globally continues to be a problem, since we'll keep spreading it.

I'm glad my govt. have policies that at least ensure we do not have to pay. Sure, it was in the early stages, but at least it is better than nothing.
Globally, if the West doesn't get their act together, there will be no end to this. It is even more troubling that vaccine might not work on different strains of COVID-19 as well.
You know what's also free in terms of the CCP virus in China? The boxes that shipped people, who showed even possible symptoms, in to bring them to "quarantine areas", which are just glorified concentration camps. That's what's worse than cages. Boxes. Those Wuhan labs that busy developing new strains?

Battle doesn't need a purpose; the battle is its own purpose. You don't ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don't ask why I fight.
And that's why China is a communist country. Nominally "private" businesses have audit information that can be categorized as "state secrets".
Michigan just certified it’s vote. Even the GSA is finally going to start handing Biden it’s needed funds/documentation for the election. Glad Biden had such a big win though. It’s a bit scary to think of a world where the election was closer and there was this much naked power grabs. Would have been 2000 all over again.
306 electoral votes isn't a big win though, especially when Democrats managed to lose House seats and whiff their expected 75% chance of taking the Senate. Maybe they somehow pull a Hail Mary and get both of Georgia's Senate Seats, but I'm not holding my breath for that when one of them is running on the tried and true "blue dog" message of failure like not wanting M4A during a pandemic.

Their PM hinted as much. Gotta love military dictatorships. Or else.

I forget which country, but in one of the places where they eat duck embryos doing so is now considered a school "assignment", in an attempt to keep the tradition alive, given that the younger generation does not like to eat it.
It's essentially "reverse Trump 2016" and by a slimmer margin (no more than 550K votes deciding the election, even with a multimillion gap in raw data). Trump might've had a slightly larger gap before.
Regardless, I really do hope they don't get the Senate. Biden's picks are proof he's going to 180 on his call to left wingers.
