XD It's not a universal thing, but it happens often enough to be more than a just a coincidence.
Then again, if you end up in a situation where one, small slice of your population has control over everything, whether it's wealthy elites, the military, technocrats, industrialists, religious institutions, or whatever, it's inevitably going to end up in a mess. The less power the rest of society has to hold leadership accountable, the faster it goes to shit.

Oh imagining is easy. In application though, it tends not to work very well. Somewhere along the way, someone(s) within the movement always decide they need more power, more influence, more resources, than other people. Or that one person or group is more deserving or needy than another and is apportioned more. Or less. Maybe it's well-intentioned. Maybe not. But the results always end up the same. Even in informal systems this is a problem.

Hence the "summer child" comment! Though maybe I should have gone with a different meme: "bold of you to assume that's not the case already".
Oh hardly. I'm fully aware Capitalism does the exact same thing. Especially when you get closer to a pure form of it. The only real difference is that it takes longer to solidify power through it. It has more potential for Class mobility and the formation of competing interests and institutions that can check one another. Especially if you're incorporating elements of a certain other, more recent system, and a healthy Democratic system with plenty of transparency when it comes to institutions and a functioning method of holding those institutions accountable for maladministration.
Yeah. Not seeing a lot of that much of anywhere these days. =/

I see it more as a prisoner's dilemma when trying to be nice. How can you be sure the opposite is not taking advantage of your kindness? Furthermore, how many can continue to be nice after being screwed for being so?
This is also a factor, yes.

I mean being nice doesn't mean turning off your logical thinking and reasoning capabilities, unlike what most of you seem to presume is happening.
Well, even if you think of it in strictly selfish terms, if you're nice to people, then they'll just take advantage of you, and if you aren't, then nobody will ever want to help you because you've been an asshole. Lose/Lose situation.
Both things have happened to me through my whole life, and no position has ever really worked for me, so I'm just embittered by it all. Truth is, by now I've lost the capacity to enjoy most things from life, and there's nothing more terrible than that.
Seriously, I am lucky to have a fair share of people taking advantage and actually repaying kindness.
I mean the problem there is expecting people to take advantage of you just because you were nice, or that you can't refuse politely when necessary. There's no reason to give up agency in your life just because of factors outside your control.
Eh. People will be dicks. People will also be nice. In my experience, they're more often dicks. But not everyone and not all the time.
