The counterpoint is pretty clear, tbh. Sony isn't seeing growth potential outside of China sufficient to merit losing out on the market. Which, honestly, makes sense. Their income is dependent on the masses buying or subscribing. Not on wealthy elites who can afford to buy in bulk but won't, but in the average person who has some regular disposable income. People who have that disposable income are becoming rarer in the West and especially the US due to worsening income inequality, while that block of potential customers is growing in China.

Put simply, they see a dim future in China.

The income inequality is much worse in China. They just don't let the foreigners see the disabled orphan children begging on the streets. I can pass for a local, so I saw.
