Seeing this as an opportunity to broaden your horizons, you decided to accept Dunbar's offer to the dismay of some of your house mates. Their loss if they can't understand your reasonings for partnering up with her. Its not as if you can allow Malfoy to easily keep his top position amongst the first years.
And with that, Dunbar and yourself gather around a pair of cauldrons and set to work. Before you even get the time to open your book, however, your new partner has already begun heating the cauldron. And as you manage to get the book open, Dunbar silently gestures for you not to bother, showing you some handwritten notes she has on hand. Judging from the contents of it, the instructions seem to stray from the rest of what the students are doing. While you don't exactly understand how the cure for boils potion can be brewed faster without the need for a wand, you decide to trust your new partner due to the confidence with which she moves. Perhaps one of her relatives is an expert potioneer and gave her some notes to be ahead of the rest of her class? Your family did something similar by teaching you some basic charms early, after all
So you assisted Dunbar as the potion turned various colors as it heated from red to pink. And the rest of the class mixed various ingredients into their potions and constantly stirred, you two simply poured ingredients into the cauldron as the potion continued to get hotter. No foolish wandwork, no additional motions necessary. And it turns out your hunch was right, as the potion was brewed several hours faster than the book stated it would take while still having that characteristic pink color.
The Potions Master took one look at the brew, giving it a slight nod of approval before moving on to look after the other groups. Apparently, one of them melted a cauldron. Despite the success both Dunbar and yourself had in brewing the potion, the atmosphere remained tense as Professor Snape berated the two students responsible for the mess.
Still, the class did eventually end and you and your first year housemates are now free to do whatever you want on the weekend.

It's always best to be on top of the current events, so you decide to meet up with your friends to engage in some conversation.
Trawling around the common room, you see a group of girls that you recognize, chief among them being Pansy Parkinson who is whispering to them rather conspiratorially. Seeing as it would be ill served to miss this, you head towards the group to see what was going on.
"It just makes you wonder about loyalties, doesn't it?"
And Parkinson is already hard at work discrediting you. Little surprise there, since you're the most prominent of the first year girls and she's always been a jealous b--witch. Chances are that she's doing this in order to undermine your own reputation while simultaneously increasing her own clout within Slytherin. Well, that certainly won't be happening at your expense.
"Are you simply insulting me out of jealousy, Parkinson?"
While a bit surprised by your presence, your verbal assailant quickly recovers with her own retort.
"Since you're here, Greengrass, why don't you answer for yourself?"
Rather strange of Parkinson to give you a chance to defend herself. She must be rather confident that she will be able to counter your response to act in this manner. No matter, there are a number of ways to resolve this.
You can return the favor by addressing how insecure she is, citing how she is constantly hanging onto Malfoy, as if he'd forget about her if she ever left his sight. On the other hand, you can note that you know that Dunbar is good at potions and that partnering with her might allow you to curry favor with the Head of House. Then again, if Dunbar were to hear that you said that, it could damage your relationship with her.

Hum. Attempting to raise our prestige seems like it'd be more effective for the short run, but that warning about it damaging our relationship with Dunbar makes me kind of nervous. I guess I'll vote to [X]Verbally Assault Parkinson, though, if someone comes up with a good write in I'll probably switch to that.
