It's finally here, the first episode of WIT Studio's Pokémon Legends animated mini-series.
Shame each episode is going to be around five minutes long, but it was certainly gorgeous.

Back to the mainline anime and today's episode was accompanied with a special preview of the Masters Tournament.
Of special note is that we see Oak's assistant Tracey, I wonder if he'll speak since it's been 15+ years...

Masters 8 brackets
Welp Alain and Iris are fucked, Diantha v Lance depends on how much the writers feel like caring about Type Advantage that episode, and Ash appears to be set to go against number 3, 2 and 1 in order.
I don't like that bracket, it's like it was actually randomized. But that first matchup is kind of funny.

Not really? Iris vs Cynthia was set up way back in BW, Leon already defeated Lance back at the start of this season whilst Ash has already battled both Alain and Diantha in the past so it seems they’re prioritising matchups that haven’t been done before in the first round.

It was a nice story, but not enough to split into three videos over six weeks. Should have just been one half hour special.

Well, the tournament of the Master 8 proceed to the next stage and the 4 best have been selected. So now, a review of the battles so far:
Leon vs Alan:
Alan was absolutely wrecked h*** shit. I suppose this serves the purposes of demostrate how powerful of a trainer is Leon the World Champion, how much is the difference there is on the power levels from XY&Z until now and that not all of Leon team is invincible, only Charizard is the absolute monster (oh, and maybe an apology for XY but that is debatable). I always liked that Leon always updates Charizard moveset according to the opponent. Makes more believable about him being the Champion. This one has been my fav going fully Specialzard with Fire Blast, Air Slash, Ancient Power and Dragon Pulse. The later one as the surprise for Mega Charizard X.
Lance vs Diantha:
This one could go either way. Diantha's strategies of Trick or Treat and Dual Screens + overall type advantage and Lance being an absolute power type were not for the type disadventage he probably would have win. He definitely have the strongest Dragonite in this tournament (lol 3 trainers with Dragonite). The thing needed 4 Super Effective moves to go down, 2 which were 4x. Dragonite is definitely his ace and deserved to be in the poster of the Master 8 instead of Gyarados.
Cynthia vs Iris:
This one also could go either way. I felt like that all the battle. Highlights of the battle were Dragonite being brutalized, poor guy went down with a metallic blow to the brain. Garchomp vs Haxorus was pretty even until Garchomp Mega Evolved and still he got a Dragon Pulse to the face. Cynthia needed to finish the battle asap before Iris buffed more Haxorus with her Dragon Tamer powers. All in all Iris fough well.
Ash vs Steven:
Ash went all: Very well Hoenn Champion, occupant of the Hall of Fame, future president of the Devon Corporation, rock lover, papasote. Show me what you have.
Dracovish damaged Metagross with Fishinous Rend a lot more than it was damaged by Psychic. Retarded strengh was a bad matchup for Metagross so was swithed by Aggron who was such physical defense that not feel so much of Dragon Rush while Dracovish fell to STAB Heavy Metal.
Gergar used Will-O-Wisp to bypass Aggron defense with status continuos damage and reduce the power of physical attacks. Defended and hurt him with Dazzling Gleam that is not effective but still is probably his overall better attack and also bypass physical defense. Finally Aggron fell down to status damage.
Cradily attacked and defended and incapacitated with Power whip while recover all the damage that recived of Gengar with Ingrain so it was a carrer against time. Still that's not Recover so damaged recovering was slow and after take advantage of Pikachu agility it went down to Super Effective Iron Tail.
We have seen Mega Metagross feats before, being able to carry battle with the Primal Legendaries. Probs to Pikachu who barely tanked STAB Meteor Smash and Psychic. However, it was nothing more him could do there. Is not so much that Mega Metagross is faster as that it can calculated and predict moves so Pikachu can't land Thunderbolt. Can engage in meele for the same reason + Mega Metagross fly + Psychic. Dynamax is an option but then it becomes an big target for Meteor Mash. So the only feasible choice was the Z-Move.
Still Mega Metagross, being the first time, try to dodged it, as normally whenever this Z-Move is used opponents go in a power competition against Pikachu so is the first time we see what happens when someone try to dodge, the result is that the move can divide and pursuit so it blocked Flash Cannon (that definitely was gonna finish Pikachu as that slamed Primal Kyogre in the ground). Z-Move grab Mega Metagross and slammed him agaisnt the ground.
Probs to Mega Metagross as is the first one to being able to stand up after the Z-Move even if it only was hit for like 60% of the full power. Still it was almost done after that so it only needed an one more hit to go.
So yeah, after 20+ years of anime I'm glad to still being here to seeing this. Battles are not more XY quality of animation but oh well.

Was the tournament fun enough to watch or should I skip to the finals?
He's looking pretty good for a 35 year-old.
I heard the pinnacle of the final match was won through pure BS plot armor that he had no purpose actually winning.
Turns out all he needed was an actually decent line up
...and maybe plot hacks but that's nothing new is it
