A taintless Grail war is a good idea. As is one that uses something wholly other. After all, one of the ideas I wanted to use involves something only slightly related to the original.

And Grill War isn't that bad an idea. I've actually had a similar thought. Rather, what would happen if some of the Lair found themselves summoned as Heroic Spirits in the 5th War with the standard Masters and Gil running around? Of course, they'd have capabilities stemming from some 2nd Magic spawned madness where alternate versions of themselves have become HS's but still, not so far off.

Imagine Mike being summoned by someone other than Sakura. No. Really. Just think about it.

Anyway:
The one class I thought up of was Breaker.
It doesn't sound very good, does it?

What does it do?

Orders Pariah: Those who exist outside of society, surviving through instinct and perseverance.

• Abilities: Endurance and Prana
• Talents: Regeneration, Independent Action, Intuition

Ah, so Pretender would be of the Pariah order?

Pretender doesn't actually have an Order. Both it and Joker can choose, even if the character is a Servant.

On a related note, even Masters and ordinary characters have a Class and Order, it's just that they aren't defined by them the way Servants are.

What does it do?

It breaks NPs.
NPs that are broken by a Breaker are rendered useless. They can be repaired, but it takes time and a lot of prana.
It's basically a Saber with much lower AGI that can render other servants it encounters unable to fight for a few days or so.
They can only break physical NP, so while they can break Gae Bolg, they can't break God Hand.

What about permitting villains to be summoned (though the Master that does so would have to be villainous and act villainous to do so). A good way of making sure that at least some of the Masters can't form alliances.

Hmm... breaker is interesting though it would be more interesting if it could break godhand or at least its armour aspect.

So far so good. But does this really need to take a war format? Well sure, war is good but it doesn't have to be a holy grail war does it?

Villains tend not to be as famous as heroes but as a whole they tend to broken and have stronger base abilities. The hero only managing to defeat them through trickery, luck, strategy or plain plot armor.

Heh. Call Breaker Destroyer. It sounds much more threatening. Then grant them an option that allows them to deal more damage to objects in general, not just NP's. A Siege monster, in other words. Possiblly let them tear down Bounded Fields and stand-alone magic as well. Trade the spent Agility for Endurance.

Villains are a fine option. Consider that I'm gearing some classes for a more inhumane bent: Harrower, Slayer, Avenger.

You need some way to explain how these people have the power to sustain a Servant and the Grail gives a good reason for them to fight. If you really want to change it then maybe an area where space/time are having so magicbabble rift and figures from the past are emerging but need mages to sustain them, but that requires a lot of world building. Besides I kinda like the Last Man Standing feel of the Wars.

Can anyone think up good abilities for Commanders to have? Being able to summon their soldiers from the past is fine but it's a bit dull to use that one, or should that be considered their default ability and how they lead their special ability?

Indeed. Though do keep in mind that the Elysium Dream is also an option. In some cases, there may not be a Master at all, or even Servants. This system can be used for Tsukihime and KnK themed works as well...

I'd keep it breaker.
He only BREAKS the NP, not destroys it.
To break it means to render it useless but still fixable.
To destroy it means to utterly and completely destroy it beyond repair.

Break isn't really the best word either. Broken phantasms are destroyed permanently unless you're Archer.

You're right.
But they aren't broken like they are when used as a broken phantasm.

I don't have permission to use Verg's. He's never given me a straight answer on that question. For starters there isn't a set RP to work with here. Rather, this is just for throwing out ideas, though having figures that might fit into the individual Classes is nice.

As for points... This system uses a point-buy method that actually provides the same amount of starting points to all characters based on their Tier and Level.
