It's been over a year since the last volume but Wikipedia says it's still ongoing and I can't think of any compelling reason to look into it further than that.

Your standards make absolutely no sense. Because Etsusa Bridge was already said to be tentatively over unless Narita feels like he wants to continue it. Vamp is technically still being worked on, but it's been nearly 5 years since the last volume. If you look at its publication history, Baccano has lots of periods where there isn't a volume for a year or two, but it's definitely less dead than Etsusa and Vamp for sure.
I guess its more lack of knowledge. Perhaps my sources are outdated or biased...
I thought Etsusa Bridge was still going but was on hiatus because of some of his other series tacking priority. I had read somewhere that he had put some of them on the back-burner because of Durarara!! And about how he had hoped to have time for other projects when he thought Durarara!! was done... I guess I had assumed the other series were Etsusa and Vamp because I didn't know about Fate/Strange Fake, being a reality, at the time.
And I thought I heard that Baccano was done. I guess until another volume is released, it is done in my mind.
P.S. I'm built on paradoxes. I don't make sense by nature. XP
