No reason for such an impersonal polite address. "Sie" is what you call a stranger or a superior at work,not a loved one or friend. You'd use "Du" for that. I've never even heard of a love poem Sie-zing the girl.

Now that i think about it, those two have more parallells than one would expect, down to the broken eye (though Guts doesnt wear a patch, so no eyepatch moe for him)
