You kinda need to grab it from the official way via a Japanese account and Japanese proxy/VPN first for your account to have the proper key set the game is looking for.

I just tried the japanese play store method, turns out the game is not even compatible with my phone (blu studio energy)

Hey, I have a few questions about this:
1) Once a translation patch is released, would it require root?
2) What about the other routes? Do we have to buy them in order to patch the game?
3) Would we have to go through all the license stuff?
4)...How would the patch be applied?
The single answers to all your questions is that there's no translation project going on at the moment.
Oh, no, i wasn't saying there was, i was thinking "I should wait fpr them to patch the android version" but then i thought "oh, but what happens if applying the patch requires snooping around the world, collect 100 bear asses and do a fishing minigame? That would suck"

Also this is exactly how I discovered the search image feature. Thanks Xer, that changed my life.
It worked :3 apparently I have to "Open image in a new tab" then "search google for image" in my crappy phone /facepalm
In theory, if there was going to be a patch, you would need root so you can copy files to the game folder.
You would have to have the game files, which usually requires buying the other routes. I don't know about license stuff but I think buying the game is enough.
Edit: After thinking about it a bit, I understand why you asked that. If we make a completely separate app, we can install it just using a simple apk without root. But then there would be legal issues for the other two routes.

Although you know it'll be only a matter of time before some random person on some torrent site will take the patch and do just that with it...
^Isn't that how the whole interwebs work with licensed content though?
