I have no idea about the structure of 40k humanity so this means nothing to me, but I got Thousand Suns.

That'd be Thousand Sons, actually. One of the legions that fell to Chaos during the Heresy. Sorcerers par excellence and scholars of the Immaterium, they drank too greedily and too deep, not realising the malevolent wills therein plotted their downfall. Magnus the Red was their Primarch, a psyker second only to the Emperor himself.

Wow, that's a lot less cool. Thousand Suns could be "we all burn as bright as stars", rather than "we're brothers".

Nobody ever accused a Space Marine of an overactive imagination WIR naming stuff.

Though in their defense, they have a very cool Mesoamerican/Egyptian theme (balance depends mostly on who's writing them at the moment) and despite being poster boy evil sorcerers are some of the least teamkilling fucktards in all the Chaos Space Marine legions.

On the other hand, they're Tzeentchian, which translates into them being a backstabbing conga line.

Eh sure, but it's usually other Legions' warbands they tend to be backstabbing. They're still split in dozens of splinter factions but the TSons are generally pretty 'loyal' to their old ways and don't tend to fight each other all that much.

True, although most of the legion being dust piles sealed in armor probably plays a part in that.
