I joined two years too late...
Oh my god, finally. With an hour left before Wednesday, I'm finally done beating my head against the wall making a decision and have settled on something.
When I first had the idea to do this, I wanted to get the players who could be arsed to get involved on their own, since it became exhausting managing so many groups last time. I also wanted to encourage players to pour in more effort and show more investment, since for me (and other GMs), that makes me want to do better. But I never expected the explosion of interest or activity this was going to end up producing. Even with the fact that nobody apparently knew the setting -- I thought Diablo would be a household name, but apparently I'm just old now -- I still ended up getting 43 sheets. I mean, normally everyone makes their characters without knowing the D&D setting anyway, so it didn't seem like it'd matter to me, but I can only imagine what I would have ended up with in a more well known setting.
Regardless, I was blown away by the effort and creativity everyone displayed. People drew their own FCs, and even commissioned them. Someone submitted 9 character sheets, and each one was about as good as all the top tier contenders. One person's character sheet was basically the entirety of Diablo contained in one document. There were so many good contenders I found it impossible to narrow it down to just 5. And this is after I'd always scoffed when Mellon or Verg or Airen would end up expanding the roster. xd Getting such an investment made me want to repay it and do it justice by recognizing it.
So, with 43 sheets, I've decided to do two groups. That's still a far cry from the 10+ I did for Menet-Ka and Ark of Hope, but now I can focus more attention on the two.
Without further ado, here are the two groups of players who got in.

To judge the sheets, I weighed multiple factors, like the appropriateness of the character, the FC, the apparent effort displayed, how creative it was, the player themselves, the synergy between the other players, the class, and more.
If you didn't get in, know that it was extremely close; I could have easily gone to three or four groups but I had to put my foot down. I might reach out to one of you if any of the above players end up not being able to play because of schedule or other circumstances, so don't trash that sheet.
I'll send out Discord invites to the winners; make sure you stay in touch and keep abreast of what's going on. If you end up going off the radar then I'll move on to another player.
Over the next few days I'll talk to you guys about the game and what we're going to do.

Linger: Complete. August, 1995. I met him. A branch off Part 3. Mikiya keeps his promise to meet Azaka, and meets again with that mysterious girl he once found in the rain.
Shinkai: Set in the Edo period. DHO-centric. As mysterious figures gather in the city, a young woman unearths the dark secrets of the Asakami family.
The Dollkeeper: A Fate side-story. The memoirs of the last tuner of the Einzberns. A record of the end of a family.
Overcount 2030: Extra x Notes. A girl with no memories is found by a nameless soldier, and wakes up to a world of war.
