It never ceases to amaze me how attached people can be to "their" RPG system. d20/DnD is the biggest culprit by far, of course, but there's definitely someone out there trying to run a full medieval fantasy by tweaking VtM.

I mean, the Dark Ages World of Darkness line is a thing.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use a slight setting change for Exalted?

The Storytelling System is also surprisingly flexible. While my system of choice to adapt to other settings was Star Wars D6, I've played in several games which used SS, and even made some adaptations myself.
Basically, it's just more convenient for most players to work with one system they like rather than learn a new one that might not be as enjoyable or see as much use. It's not unlike Apple purists, or Microsoft fans, or what have you. Most people pick one they know and like and stick with, modified to fit their needs. Likewise, when you have a big player base for one system, it makes it easier to get a game together. And if it has a lot of official content and available homebrew?
People love their games. Some are better at specific things than others, definitely. But most people don't give enough of a shit about what they're playing to go looking for the perfect experience for a given genre. They just want to have fun with friends in a game they all know, can play, and like.
That's really what people are attached to; the experience. The system is just a symbol of it. New ones take more work and may not be as good an experience as the tried-and-true one they already know.

Battle doesn't need a purpose; the battle is its own purpose. You don't ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don't ask why I fight.
Maybe it's just me but high fantasy trappings aside GBF's world is one of the best sandboxes you could ever want for a campaign. Your players are always on the move, so there's always new opportunities to drop new plot hooks or pick up old ones. You can make quests of the week for as long as you can come up with new island names, or make a grand overarching plotline with world-shaking impact. You can throw in literally any theme, from gothic horror to raygun sci-fi just by changing locations and throwing the Astrals/Moondwellers/a Primal in. It's great.
Also the guys who wrote this made Bardbarian into an actual character concept and if you don't love it we can't be friends

I'm gonna use Luchador somehow, even if I have to push it to a completely different universe.

Lots of repetition in those questions. Especially those 20-35 group which is the same questions worded differently 3 times in a row.

The satisfaction of actually finishing a long running campaign with your bros can’t be quantified.

Spoiler:
Generally people from our secret MGNQ writefag cabal, of whom the only marginally aligned one here would be Froggie, but they didn't play in this. Six people scattered between three timezones divided by 8 hours each. I don't know how we finished this. Over the course of the campaign(long after the contents of the thread) one person can't keep playing so their PC leaves to do their own thing, one can't keep playing so they're NPC'd, some PCs die but people make new characters since they want to stay a part of the game. We got to the end and there's a story to it, with a beginning and an end that means something. Feels real good.
