I just hate Alter Ego bosses so much that I made the first Arjuna Alter bossfight much harder than I had to for myself by insisting on one shotting him at the expense of not being prepared for the second wave.

Honestly blowing him up immediately probably made the quest easier, I know I tried putting up with his bullshit one round and quit the quest after three turns because it was obviously nonviable.

I like Douman actually as long as he will not get a sad past made poor guy evil sob story. Just find one dumbass and irritating punching bag is hard in FGO.

Arjuna Alter is more bullshit, though, so I actually did a CS revive when doing the chapter because I just hated him so much. For the memorial redo I did it in a more normal way to make both his NPs go off at the same time to avoid party destruction. So my Alter Ego hatred really held me back there.

Yeah sure, everyone doesn't need to be morally ambiguous and all, and sometimes you just need a proper bad guy to kick the shit out of, but imo that shouldn't be someone who's been around for this much. But I do agree with you that by this point I'd hate it if they give him some sob-story right before or after we beat him just to make the player

Sometimes the best villains are those pure evil ones you can merrily despise and kick the shit out of, and Douman is definitely an example of this.

There's making a smug, unrepentantly evil villain that's satisfying to kick the ass of. That's Kirei. And there's making a piece of shit whose sole purpose for existing is to annoy the reader/player by being as obnoxious as possible, kicking as many reader pets as possible, while simultaneously remaining un-fightable for as long as possible to milk that frustration to its fullest extent. That's Ashiya Douman. Only one of those is a well-written character.

Kirei is too morally complex to count, IMO. Yeah he's evil, but he both revels in it and curses it.

The actual IRL Xu Fu sailed east with a whole bunch of people in search of the Elixir of Life and never returned. Some Japanese historians think he might have landed on Japan and maaaaybe he's Emperor Jimmu??? He's also worshipped as a god of farming, medicine, and silk.

The whole "landed on an island and has been working on an elixir of immortality ever since" thing is just a logical (if fantastic) extrapolation on that that's more interesting than, say, assuming that the ships all sank or the immortality-seeking alchemist became a non-immortal emperor of Japan.

I think DIO fits the picture. I never really get why people like him since he was a wimp ever since Jojo 1, failing to beat Johnathan even before him getting Hamon and Dio was supposed to be a vampire by then. He is also a wimp mentally as well, not to forget. I mean trying to make himself look great and bully the weak sure makes the picture, but I guess people like to hate him?
