Ergo, in a world where you don't have true ancestors through some lunar compact, if there's some vaguely a-ray related thing, it'd fall to the relevant elementals.
I don't think this really explains it, though. Yes, we know that True Ancestors by definition are fairies ("great fairies", as it were), and that big fairies like that in turn are a type of Elemental or Nature Spirit. They're an extension of the planet.
In that sense, obviously the True Ancestors, made through a pact with Crimson Moon in order for Gaia to defend itself, and the Six Fairies who worked in Avalon to craft the Last Phantasm to protect the planet itself from alien threats, are both "the same".
Where it becomes weird, in my opinion, is when you have Oberon explain what an a-rei (亜鈴) is:
Genuine fae are those that come from the inner sea of the planet, disconnected from human civilization.
Those born in the inner sea of the planet are known in the world of magecraft as "Great Fathers" or "Great Mothers".
You can think of them like... something like bunrei of the planet's soul, or something to that extent.
They're on the same scope as divinity who personify nature, but unlike those gods, they're not clothed in human rules.
Great Fathers and Mothers are pure, transcendent existences.
Fae of these ranks who appear on the surface on a mission from the planet are known in this Lostbelt as "
".
"A-Rei" are Great Mother-class fae who have come into "a will of their own",
their own truth...the essence of a fairy like that is capable of reshaping the world as they see fit.
This is the fairy's territory. The greatest Mystery possessed by powerful fairies.
Furthermore, just by existing, A-Rei increase their number of terminals, called "offspring".
These offspring are the "Children of the Forest" or the "Children of the Stone", and make up the greater majority of the fairies in the fairy kingdom these days.
Compared to an A-Rei, their power is infinitesimal, but offspring are still offspring.
This is followed by Da Vinci saying:
Hmm. Is the term "A-Rei" unique to this Lostbelt?
They sound similar to what we call things like "Elemental" or "True Ancestor".
Here we can obviously see a lot of similarities between True Ancestors and the A-rei just at a quick glance. A-Rei are "Great Fathers/Mothers", much like how TA are "Great Fairies". They have the power to "reshape the world as they see fit" (Fairy Territories and Marble Phantasm respectively).
But we also see some stuff that doesn't seem to really apply to both. TA don't reproduce in the same way, nor are they bunrei of the planet's soul (although tied to nature and acting as extension of the planet).
In other words, just in LB6 we can tell that, just like Da Vinci says, TA and A-Rei are similar, but not the exact same. Then comes Archetype's profile and complicates this by not saying that she's just an A-Rei (or A-Ray, outside of the Lostbelt, though as to what extent the naming there really matters, who knows), but that she's an 亜麗真種, or "True Species of A-Ray". So what does that really mean? What is a "True Species" even (again, not sure if this shows up in TsukiRe)? Because to me, it feels like TA would count as less "true species" than something like the Six Fairies, because of the moon contract.
But either way, we now have two clauses:
1) A-Rei and TA are similar, but not the same, and
2) Arc(hetype) is a TA and an (True Species)
but no more info than that.
I would think it's most likely that A-Ray/A-Rei encompasses all those "great fairies" that are the closest to the planet out of all the fairies and nature spirits/elementals (hence why actual A-Rei are bunrei of the planet's soul and not just extensions of nature), but that TA classify more as some sort of sub-category of them, being similar with some smaller differences because of the fact that they aren't "genuine", but who knows really.
