Ashoka's character as a whole feels like a loveless labor. Much like his lines give him nothing, his story appearances fail to justify his appearance.
He debuts in Samurai Remnant event, where easily could have been slotted as a parallel to Takeru, as the bloodstained conqueror who learned the value of peace in the second half of his life. But the event does not touch that topic, so he's kinda just there.
Then Trinity Metatronius tries to place him as a parallel to Kadoc, as another penitent trying to live with the massacre they caused, but it does nothing to establish Ashoka's feelings to make their connection work. All his story time accomplishes is to get me thinking "If he exists only as a parallel to Takeru and Kadoc over the same topic, why not just cut the middle man and have Takeru as the Granato resident who connects with Kadoc? Their mindset is already plentifully fleshed out without demanding the extra effort Trinity Metatronius is clearly unwilling to put on, and them being part of the Hell warden list would have at least made the seven maidens joke feel like a lot less of a non sequitur."
