Why do people want Fou to be Proto Merlin so bad

Only one conclusion comes to mind and I don't like it.

I just think it'd be more interesting than Proto Merlin just being Merlin but female.

Also with the addition of Pretender, Nasu's explanation for the class works well if we assume something happened to Proto Merlin (True) and Fou took on the role for him.

The Pretender class is most likely because she's pretending to be Merlin's little sister, Lady Avalon and not Merlin (because she doesn't want Arthur to drag her to work)

ye I know, it's just prior to release I was hoping for lore drop (true) given the idea of having a joke explanation for a new class that barely has Servants as is doesn't sit well with me. This is summer though, so I should've expected this.

But the Pretender class has a serious explanation, Holmes gives it on LB6. If anything the Moon Cancer class is the one class that is long overdue for a proper explanation besides BB-chan, the one BB-chan cut in a backgroound deal with the devs and two intruders not BB-chan approved.

No you're missing my point, I know the Pretender class has a serious explanation considering I referenced Nasu's own detailed explanation given in his interview. I'm just saying the third Pretender being a joke is a bit dumb. The Lady Avalon concept we're given doesn't even fit with how Nasu explained the class. But it's summer, so whatever.

Also Moon Cancer should have never left Extra so idgaf about it tbh.

Granted, I've never played a Fire Emblem game before but a quick glance at the JPN wikipedia says that the title of the franchise references a reoccurring macguffin in the games called the “炎の紋章” so I'm leaning towards it not being an intentional reference but I dunno, needs a FE player really to confirm or deny.

I'm past my depth in terms of JP knowledge but from what I can tell, the text is talking about the red color of the sword being a metaphorical symbol of fire. The Fire Emblem (in those games where it exists beyond being the game's title) is a physical object.
