maybe I'm such a simply person but I love arcueid since the second ch and cryed in the end, sadly I haven't play the vn maybe that's why I enjoyed the anime it so much

Shingetter did play the right emotional keys to pull off the bittersweet ending, I gotta admit. But Shiki's more passive/melancholic characterization hurts some scenes IMO. It's a far cry from the optimistic lazy snarky asshole that game Shiki is.

Even apart from being a bad adaptation the show was not good. Arc is the only character who got decent characterization afair, it looked ugly and was a slideshow for most part.
At least the atmosphere kinda worked.

Well, if there is one thing they did almost right, though, before the advent of censorship, there is a never - televised onscreen sex scene of Arc and Shiki.
Which many anime today tried to depict such scenes as strange scenes unrelated to the sex scene. (no offense to FSN.)
Soundtrack and plot, well, at least they tried. Studios had their flops too. Not everything they make is a hit.
Witch Hunter Robin for instance. That's outside Sunrise's genre of Gundams, and it's an anime first to boot. That's a result of them trying to appeal to Western audiences. Got some decent reviews before it's forgotten completely. (Robin - nee - san!!! T.T)
Also, I have to agree whoever said teenage knife fights. But then, they only went all out in that last episode.
Hopefully, Fumiko Orikasa knew of her former TYPE MOON roots.
Also, I didn't believe that Shiki is like that until I played Kagetsu Tohya.
