Currently (like, actually) finishing Apocrypha 3
I'm watching the thing. Just got to chapter 3 unspoiled. Random thoughts:
- It seems we're in some sort of loop. It seems Buddha/Twice are still in charge, so they must have been the ones to set it up? There's that huge Chakravartin in the sky after all.
- The main reason why this seems to be a loop are the flashbacks from prior iterations (?), starting with the Female Hakuno scene in the very beginning, continuing with the "many deaths of Hakuno" flashbacks.
- So what happens to the masters that die in the loop? Do they revive in the next iteration? If they do, are they still human or do they become AIs/NPCs at some point?
- I suspect a long time may have elapsed since the events of Extra. I wonder what that implies about the real world.
- It seems Twice has given up on doing anything to change the situation? Actually, is that even Extra's Twice, or some sort of remnant? Did Buddha manage to save Twice? Is the whole setup Buddha's plot to save Twice/humanity?
- Is (what's left of) SE.RA.PH a sort of Matrix in which the last remnants of humanity are trapped in?
- Although to the untrained eye Make Hakuno may seem like a standard, boring, stoic protagonist, considering that this is a Nasu work, all my alarms are tingling. This Hakuno is really, really fucked up in the head, to the point where I don't know if he can be called human anymore.
- Rin is obviously doing some weird stuff too, being able to solo a bunch of Servants. It seems she can henshin. Is she even human? What about Tron!Lancer?
- Nice touch there Moon Cell (?), sending a Faceless, Nameless Archer as a Terminator.
- Also where did this Saber even come from?
- No Rani in sight yet.
- What is a Dead Face. It's something bad, isn't it. The name is pretty ominous. This Hakuno is pretty scary.
- Also it's not the first time the Dead Face thing happens, since Rin recognizes it.
- Oh, Shinji, you're so fabulous.
- Are the Shinji in the ground floor that stabs Hakuno and the Shinji in the first floor that rules the Matrix the same guy, or just different iterations of the same guy? Also, what's the deal with the pink haired girl in the ground floor? I half expect her to be Erzsebet or something.
- Kotomineeeeeeeeeeeee
- Kotomine's words and narrative inertia makes me think this will be the last iteration of the loop. Which will be brought about by a hatred-filled dead face, whatever that means. That sounds really cheerful there.
- SHAFT animation memes! Ballerina, check, Shaft Gaze, check.
- Nero looks like Lady Oscar in the end of the OP. Fabulous.
- Turning one's back on a horrible reality and building a virtual paradise. The Matrix vibes again.
- Shinji's idea of the paradise seems to involve a ton of pretty girls, which gives some meaning to Drake's offhand comment about how Nero will do OK, since she's hot.
- EX Luck, huh.
- Boobs, boobs everywhere
- So SE.RA.PH has become a series of layered Heavens (Purgatories? Hells? Buddhist Realms?). There's some merit to the Hell idea, if so, Shinji's layer could be the Hell of the cowardly/lazy/lukewarm.
- There's going to be a floor master in every floor, isn't it? And I imagine they'll be the masters from original Extra and each will have a reason to have stayed back. And we're going to kill every last one of them. Including Rin/Rani/both?
- So you can go down a bunch of layers, huh. How high did Rin reach before coming back down, I wonder? I'm guessing the layer where she or Rani would be the floor master.
- I feel that if I knew more about Buddhism I'd be very concerned about the whole situation.
- BOOBS EVERYWHERE

Very entertaining, keep us updated as you go along.
Just watched the whole series...
Yep, nice of Shaft to borrow the tried and tested initial Puella Magi formula.
And Nasu took NPC characterization to a logical conclusion.
That both gamers and NPC characters are tired of their life at the Moon Cell. And that the Moon Cell's reiterations of life drew to a conclusion that with each repetition, death is still there and man has not transcended beyond it.
Kind of like Araya who saw the same pattern of death in each conclusion of the day in Kara no Kyoukai.
Not dealing with it...
Why even try?
This is golden...
I just realized that kotomine didn't have any bearing on the plot after his ten second appearance in the first episode. Like, at all.
Why would he? He's just another NPC
One of the Q&A question is "how about a good extra anime" haha yeah, it's not like they care about other fate anime other than Fate/Zero/Stay Night

Just watched the last three episodes on Netflix. I wonder if people who don't have at least a passing knowledge of the Extraverse will understand the last scene?
Anyway, I liked it! It was a fitting end for the series. Shame we didn't get the dream rematch, but this was more than acceptable.
Oh they're finally up? I may do a recap marathon of the whole show then.
Dub Gawain sounds like Johnny Yong Bosch? I can't remember the last time I watched something with him in it.
Oh nevermind, Chris Patton. Could have sworn it was JYB.

I just finished the Fate/Extra Last Encore anime today. The show itself was very pretty, though the constant shifts to different backgrounds at times was odd. So were the neck tilts. Besides the fight between Nero and Gawain, most the fights themselves were just okay, but they could have a lot better. Like how the show itself was very nice, so you would think the fights would be just as amazing too. I wished they would have had jazz music from the original music and I still probably would have liked a straight adaptation rather than this.
But it wasn't bad, it was fun not knowing what would happen next, and it was great seeing Nero in her own anime. The different Servant cameos were nice too.
Between the two anime, I liked the Fate/Apocrypha anime more though. There are still things that I wonder about like, what on Earth was going on with Alice and Nursery Rhyme.
Spoiler:
Alice is a soul without a body since she died and her soul got uploaded to the Moon Cell. This makes her a stronger wizard than most since she doesn't have to worry about backlash from strong magecraft, but she's also basically dead. As the thousand years passed, her soul started to degrade since souls degrade over time, so she cannibalized various parts of the environment for data so as to not die. This turned her into the horrific monster that killed many monsters and ultimately took a Gae Bolg to the chest.
Meanwhile Nursery Rhyme died? but left her Nameless Forest, Queen's Glass Game, and a shard of her power behind.
I think it was mentioned Amari returned to the first floor and died there.
“Yet the burden shall be shared by two entwined, from which the sword will part from the body and be bestowed upon the vassal to sacrifice themselves and cleave through space and time.”
“Mark upon this unworthy flesh the emblem of the sacrifice, the vassal whose death shall bring forth victory through the fields of steel and blood!”
“The oath is laid here. We are the ones who represent all the good within the pure lands, and we are the ones who judge what is evil within the pure lands. Thou, Seven Heavens clad in three mere words of unequal power, shall emerge from the spiral of control, O keeper of the balance—!”
It's not mentioned at all, but it is shown in the drama CD.
