Have a feeling at least one of those will make it. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they all did at some point.
As for the language rule: Nothing is formal, but I do faintly remember a reason why we did it. I think it was something with linking it to the site's history, its first banner (on the Proboards days) being just a basic banner with "Beast's Lair" in English and Japanese or something like that.

I tried putting English text below the Japanese, but 'beast's' and 'lair' aren't the same size and so make it kinda asymmetrical. Any ideas?

I think it looks fine as it is.
I also think it looks fine as is just like the other banners.Any ideas?
Minor nitpicks in general would just be that your banners tend to have different sizes and that "Beast's Lair" isn't capitalized which might clash with the other submissions, although I get that it's probably a stylistic choice and it probably doesn't even matter all that much.
