Armament: Assassin makes use of a variety of firearms and explosives which would have been available to him during the Black and Tan war and the Irish Civil war. This gives Assassin a degree of versatility in combat, although he is not proficient in engaging in close-range fighting with many servants who would likely be stronger than him. Then again, this style of fighting has never been preferred by Assassin in the past.
Catalyst: Assassin, being a figure from recent history, would be practically impossible to summon outside of the island of Ireland where he is most famed, nonetheless if a determined master obtained any article of clothing or other belonging that was owned by Assassin then it is theoretically possible to summon him outwith Ireland, however his capacities would be greatly reduced.

Personality: In his lifetime Assassin was responsible for many ruthless killings. Assassin did not shirk from using underhanded, yet effective, methods in order to reach his ultimate end of an independent Ireland. He has been referred to as, among other things, a murderer, collaborator and a terrorist by his enemies. It may surprise Assassin’s Master to then discover that Assassin can be rather amiable.

In most circumstances Assassin projects the image of a jovial young businessman. It’s rather difficult to picture him being a danger to anyone particularly when he’s relaxed and joking about matters. Ultimately most people, aside from those whose ideals are completely opposed to Assassin, find it hard to shake the impression of him being a good person, or at least well-intentioned. He may not be a natural political leader but Assassin can easily win a person’s trust, with regards to his Master he will probably treat them initially as an equal however if relations between Assassin and his Master degrade he is less likely to pay attention to their directions with regards to the Grail War.

Any Master who displays some incompetence at strategic matters will soon find themselves being treated as a subordinate. Assassin is just as usually friendly towards those he perceives as working under him as he is to his opponents, but can be a demanding supervisor who pushes for better results out of others. This is not necessarily out of an overly-ambitious nature himself or some cynical belief that others aren’t pulling their weight, but out of Assassin’s own belief that others aren’t lazy, but simply don’t realise what they can do when pushed to their limits. Although Assassin will display exasperation with others if something goes wrong he will usually later reassure those working with him of the merit in their own actions, even if it didn’t lead to a desirable outcome for Assassin.

Assassin can be a rather emotional Servant, he will likely become irritated if summoned outwith Ireland, even more so if he is summoned outwith the British Isles. Assassin rarely travelled in life and while he wouldn’t be averse at going further afield his mentality is such that he soon becomes homesick once subjected to the stress of the Grail War.

Espionage- A:
Espionage does not conceal a Servant’s presence but instead makes the Servant’s presence fail to register as hostile. Those affected by this skill misinterpret the Servant’s presence as something else, such as a kind neighbour or passer by.

At this rank Assassin can easily pass even into the heart of enemy operations, into areas he has no right being, with impunity as he will barely be noticed. As long as he is not aggressive or overtly interacting with others he is almost entirely unnoticeable, those who manage to notice him tend to identify him as nothing more than a cheerful young man regardless.

Assassin had a bounty of ten thousand pounds on his head, much closer to three-hundred thousand pounds in modern money, and at the beginning of the war of Independence Britain had an incredibly strong intelligence network operating in Ireland. Partly aided by the fact that the British government had not obtained any good photos of Assassin he adopted a policy that nobody would look for someone who wasn’t hiding, he moved between safehouses and escaped raids simply travelling around the country dressed as a businessman on the back of an old bike. Assassin was an amiable character and was rarely questioned as to his identity, showing particular skill at infiltrating locations unquestioned Assassin managed to even gain access to the files of Dublin Castle, the focus of British control in Ireland, and leave without being noticed. Many times he would be asked for his own location and was able to simply walk away.

Subversive Activities- B:
The talent to reduce enemy forces in the preliminary stages of combat before going into battle, those who possess this skill are experts of traps. A tradeoff is that the higher this skill is ranked the more a Servant’s spiritual status as a hero declines.

At B rank Assassin can effectively disable between a quarter and half of an enemy force, unlike other users of this skill Assassin does not establish traditional traps often but rather uses his knowledge of guerilla tactics to establish combat situations so unfavourable as to effectively discount much of the enemy from engaging him in battle.

Some have credited Assassin as pioneering many of the prevalent ideas of guerilla warfare in the twentieth century. Although he was not, during the war of Independence, in direct control of the entire army Assassin promoted his doctrines of guerilla warfare from his position as head of Intelligence. Many revolutionaries and fighters for independence, particularly those who fought the British Empire, acknowledged the influence of Assassin’s approach even if their ultimate goals wildly diverged from Assassin’s. However it must be noted that, as in life, Assassin is perceived as less of a heroic figure the more often he relies on this skill, even among some of his allies Assassin may be perceived as cold-hearted and murderous, Assassin himself has difficulty realising this as he sees such a tactic as being necessary in a wartime situation.

Demonic Defender of the State- C:
The capacity for a Servant to mark out a region as their domain, securing surrounding laylines prior to an engagement.

When fighting in his domain Assassin receives an increase to his Endurance (bringing it to a C rank) and the capability to utilise his Noble Phantasm Óglaigh na hÉireann. Assassin can only designate at most seven thousand five hundred square kilometers as his territory at any one time.

Assassin’s efforts in life were overwhelmingly directed into establishing the Irish nation-state. Although he only lived to see his country established as a dominion of the British Empire he managed to effectively make Ireland entirely ungovernable by foreign influence except by military means, ultimately leading to the state of affairs that exist today.

Independent Action- B:
Independent Action is the ability to remain independent even while rejecting the Magical Energy supply from one’s Master. This allows for action even in the absence of a Master entirely. At high ranks this can allow a Servant to remain in the world for a while in the absence of a Master.

At B rank Assassin can stay in the world for at most two days without a Master, this however is an ideal obtained by conserving Mana and avoiding any combat.

Assassin merits this skill due to often having to take over many positions in the government whilst others were absent or imprisoned. He also showed a disregard for the positions of authority within the military, going against the opinion of his superiors in rank who advocated for a conventional form of warfare.

Noble Phantasms

Eirinn go Brach- Give us the Future, We’ve had enough of your Past (C, Anti-Army): Assassin’s main doctrine during the war of Independence was to make Britain’s greatest asset, their intelligence network, entirely unworkable. He thought it necessary to kill any and all who helped the British Government in Ireland. He was integral to the formation of the first grouping to become known as the Irish Republican Army (IRA). Although this name would become used by a variety of rather different organisations later in life the IRA, especially under Assassin, focused mainly on guerilla warfare and targeting military officials. Many now argue that Assassin saved the Irish nationalists from being crushed by the power of the British government, although some identify him as having been responsible for Irish victory in the war of Independence he is attributed by many historians as having been an instrumental figure in that conflict.

Assassin formed, against the initial directions of his superiors, a clandestine grouping of the old IRA known as “The Squad”, this was a group of twelve IRA soldiers who were assigned to carry out assassination orders on Assassin’s behalf. Assassin himself referred to the Squad as “The Twelve Apostles” jokingly. However in larger operations such as the infamous Bloody Sunday of 1920, where most of the British “Cairo Gang” were assassinated other members of the old IRA were involved in these activities.

This Noble Phantasm works to eliminate those who cooperate with the enemies of Assassin. These “enemies” are a fixed list, being those Servants and Masters who oppose Assassin during the Grail War. Upon activation of this Noble Phantasm those targeted, limited to those who are firstly cooperating with enemy Servants/Masters, are not enemy Servants/Masters and are within Assassin’s “Domain” (from Demonic Defender of the State) are almost certainly eliminated. Whether they be shot by some shadowy figure or eliminated by an undetected explosive this Noble Phantasm is particularly effective against Masters who employ networks of other Mages or familiars to aid them in their activities.

Although Master’s would usually be safe from Óglaigh na hÉireann if they were to cooperate with another Master overtly, not merely tacitly (such as letting a conflict go on uninterrupted), and Assassin were to discover this then they may also be subjected to the execution meted out by Assassin.

Although Assassin can usually eliminate a number of targets with this Noble Phantasm in quick succession his limited capacity for Mana means that he must be careful. This Noble Phantasm would likely be identified as anti-unit were it not for the possibility that, as an act of desperation, Assassin can eliminate as many as an army of thousands in a single action although his existence would not survive such an expenditure of mana. This act of madness is not out of character with Assassin’s person though. The most efficient method for Assassin to win the war using this Noble Phantasm would be to execute a situation where six Master’s are directly working together, however such a situation would be rare.

Lore

Michael Collins was an Irish revolutionary who fought during the Irish war of Independence and later lead the pro-treaty faction during the Irish Civil War. Born near Clonakilty in West Cork Collins moved to London in 1906 to work as a Post Office Clerk. However, he returned to fight for Irish Independence during the Easter Rising in 1916.

Collins barely survived the Rising, being marked for execution by the British Intelligence Services, however he managed to escape this fate and was released from prison by December. After his release Collins rose through the ranks of the Irish volunteers (who would later form the IRA) and IRB, eventually becoming President of the latter. Collins was appointed Minister for Finance in 1918 and would become an integral figure in Irish politics at the time. He became famous as an expert in guerilla warfare and was well-loved by all but his political rivals, such as Cathal Brugha and Eamon de Valera.

After a ceasefire was reached with the British Collins went, reluctantly, to London as head of the negotiating team for the Anglo-Irish treaty alongside founder of Sinn Fein Arthur Griffith. The treaty that emerged from this was incredibly controversial as Collins was unable to obtain a good deal from the British. Some accused Collins of betraying the ideal of the Republic as the resulting Irish Free State was still a dominion of the British Empire and did not hold the Northern counties of Ireland. In Collins’ view it gave the important “Freedom to achieve freedom”.

Many historians now view Collins being sent to London as a betrayal as President Eamon de Valera did not attend the negotiations, he had already met British Prime Minister David Lloyd-George, who had made clear allusions that he would not allow for the formation of an Irish Republic. Although Collins now faced a difficult position he still found allies and remained arguably the most popular Irish figure of the time, respected even by his enemies in the British Empire. The treaty was ratified by the Dail, however many dissented leading to the beginning of the Irish Civil War.

During the Civil War Collins was appointed Chairman of the Provisional Government. Although he didn’t want to fight a war against many of his friends he eventually was forced to take action against the anti-treatyists, who rallied around de Valera and seized key locations such as the Four Courts in Dublin. While the pro-treaty faction won the Civil War Collins was shot and killed in a poorly planned and executed at Béal na Bláth, a crossroads in West Cork.

At the time Collins was fighting to end the Civil War by peaceful means, proposing amnesty for the anti-treatyists and their right to protest against the treaty. He famously said before he left for Cork “They won’t try and shoot me in my own county” despite Cork being the last stronghold of the anti-treatyists. At the time of his death he was only 31, but had overseen Ireland’s transition into democracy. When de Valera came to power a number of years later a concerted effort was made at that time to blacken Collins’ reputation, however once this period of media control had ended Collins returned to occupy a position wherein he is seen as the Irish equivalent of George Washington.

As with the other versions of this skill, Avenger is able to gain insight into another's true nature—though clearer, it is distorted due to her thirst for revenge, a taste of what she wants to see, opposed to what was originally there—and her own revitalization through their blood. Unlike those, she is incapable of detecting deceit and deception for she simply doesn’t care and because it was fused with her「Magical Energy Burst」whenever she engages in combat, any blood spilled bubbles green, burns black, and gives Avenger and her followers a permanent increase in parameters as long as she or they have magical energy to spare. To Avenger, the only thing that matters is what she perceives as the truth; what is right and how justice should be carried out. Insanity. Her revenge is insanity itself.

‘Burn them all, the women and the children too’ so says the queen. Once a wildflower, now a worm.
