The Material books of old describe 7 magecraft elements. The 5 normal elements and 2 extra rare elements. The latter are
- Sakura's 虚, found in my translations as Imaginary and in FGO NA as Void. Officially defined as "what can possibly exist but doesn't". It's demonstrated through Imaginary Numbers Magecraft (hence the choice of name), which is Sakura using shadows as space pockets for storing things (Grail mud) and doing portal cuts. Then FGO uses this Imaginary Space to cross walls between worlds by having the Shadow Boarder dive into it (board the shadows, if you will) and surface on the other side. Imaginary Scramble also presents the insides of Imaginary Space as an empty space where multiple possibilities co-exist. Check this event for more detailed infodumps.
- Angra Mainyu's 無, found in my translations as Void. Officially defined as "what can't possibly exist but does". We don't have enough confirmed examples of this one to paint a clear picture, but Angra Mainyu's usage of it implies this element is about dreams, since his main ability is Bazett's time-looping dream. I personally interpret the Foreigner Class Lovecraft stuff as also being this, due to the common motif of attack through dreams and the frequent "outside of our reality" = "can't exist but does" descriptor.
I get that, I wanted to know the implication from in-universe, and so theoretical possibilities makes it make more sense.
The old, old translation for Hollow was, "that which is possible, but not on this plane" and void was "that which isn't possible, but materializes" iirc.
So I wanted to see if someone who translated it differently had more things to say. So now the difference makes more sense.
The hilarity of using something like these powers to make a printer that just materializes finished doujins is great.
And thanks Comun.
Does a list of all Servants teased throughout the many FGO material books exist?
I don't think there's an official list, but one can certainly compile all the Servants mentioned and present it here if needed.
List (I'll be counting all characters that are not playable yet, including ones that have already appeared in-game as NPCs, or Servants that have appeared in other works):
Unreleased
Characters that are playable, but were teased before:
Released
I'm sure I got the timing wrong on released Servants that were teased before release, as I didn't scrutinize it too heavily. Might've missed some too that I felt had already released by the time their mention on CM came about.
There are still a few sheets from the last two Materials untranslated. So if those have any teased characters, I wouldn't know about them.
Please let me know if you know the identity of the unknown (????) Servants, or if I missed someone. I'm very dumb sometimes, and this took quite a bit of energy.
Also, Keikenchi literally can't help themselves.
Babbage's ???? is most likely Danzou
Jekyll's ???? is yeah, most likely Moriarty
Mysterious Sailor X is X Alter, she wears a sailor uniform
I think Swimsuit Saber Alter's ???? was Lady Kasuga (Parvati NPC from Ooku)
Eresh's ???? not sure, Space Ishtar (?)
Asagami's ???? is Aoko
Red Hare's Llamrei/Bai Long/Dun Stallion are horses that are already in the game
That all makes sense, so I've fixed it. Musashi and Da Vinci's both seem to be the biggest questions here.
Also the horse ones are totally my fault. I could've googled them, but at that point I was going through so many sheets that I was just like "uhh don't recognize those names let's just throw them in"
Tametomo and Yamanami have already been released though
Da Vinci's ????: Letter count suggests Romani Goetia.
Ereshkigal's ????: Space Ishtar.
Musashi's sameface/soul twin: Aozaki Aoko.
Not listed:
- Space Ishtar's ???? (tokusatsu version of Elizabeth).
- Space Ishtar's ???? (Velber 01 or 03).
- Europa's Zeus
- Yang Guifei's Li Bai.
- Yang Guifei's Kuukai.
- Yang Guifei's Abe no Nakamaro.
- Odysseus's Ajax.
- Odysseus's Penelope.
- Summer Kiara's Otohime.
- Summer Tomoe's Kiso no Yoshinaka.
- Hajime's Nagakura Shinpachi.
Romani Flauros has the same kana count. Petri can still pretend the two characters have any significant difference.
I still find it weird that anyone likes Flauros. Such generic and bland villain, right to face expression, which do exist solely to show "haha I am evil":
Goetia also had an expression like that as "Solomon", but at least he had noble goal, at least it was noble from his point of view, and his defeat was thematic and great. His last fight and resolution was also quite good. Flauros I think died to Jeanne's Servant mass summoning and didn't even appear after it in Solomon.
Oh, Lib, as if I didn't take that into consideration already.
Flauros appears last of all the Demon Pillars. He's the one who has the talk with Gilgamesh. Also, Lev has more character development than Goetia, and is more noble, if you know where to look.
