Gotta get that Marvel-esque "BEDIVERE WILL RETURN" motif.

On that note, I do think that Bedivere being summonable is a mistake that detracts from his sacrifice and themes, but hey, F/GO!

That's the good thing about the weirder Servants. Various circumstances, or just being an odd thing that was observed and documented with Chaldea's system gatekeep them.

Ah, I was referring more to his treatment as a character rather him coming back via the gatcha in spite of his sacrifice.

On the one hand, absolutely agreed that him being summonable detracts from the story.
On the other hand Camelot made him one of my favorites so hell yeah I'm going to have him in my party.

I like it because it's ludonarrative assonance and turns the usual 'here's your dude' at the end into a really nice touch.

    A nice touch, yes.

It makes me wish it happened more often, as appropriate. Although, that does come at the cost of cheapening it, turning it into routine.

KnK was before T-M decided to have a sense of humor.

    Even then, Azaka existed, so...

If you find it such a recurring issue you might want to try a different approach then, bud.

My main complaint is not and has never been one of a servant character's "inaccuracy" to historical representation. It is a question of the general epistemological framing - the database mentality, wiki-thought - within which the servant character production process takes place and within which judgements of "accuracy" are made. That is not what I have been doing here. All I have been saying here is that Solomon exposes a case in which TM have been particularly bad or lazy in working within their own epistemology, their own mechanism for discovering 'facts' within the historical archive, that his case exposes in particularly glaring fashion the internal contradictions, the arbitrariness of their epistemology, and that - with minor modification - this exposure could be covered-over, ameliorated, as it were like a stranger on the train politely informing you that you have leftover food on your shirt. I am in fact suggesting a way FGO could be improved, could be made a better FGO, as oxymoronic as that sounds

Sorry this doesn’t really build off of or relate to really anything you’ve written Dullahan but I get the distinct feeling that the only reason Nasuverse Solomon exists as such is to justify the existence of Goetia, which I’m almost certain is the one that got thought up first.

Well, it's like "this thing can do this certain action because it's the universe somehow, or it's everything in some complicated way which makes it invincible, etc, and then you have to use another concept to stop it. And well, it can be hard to follow sometimes.

Hermes Trismegistus as Beast I would certainly have been interesting, and yes, the wank is real across essentially all of Eurasia.

Oh yes. Hermes was a central pillar of esoteric religion from Western Europe to India/Central Asia and maybe China. Christians and Muslims (and probably Jews) of all stripes shared the same ideas and all revered the knowledge carried by Hermes/Idris/Enoch. It was all part of their more cosmological/rational interpretation of scripture.

And all the Muslim kingdoms of North Africa as well. Let's just say he was a pan-religious figure whose supposed body of knowledge united intellectuals of all Abrahamic religions during the Medieval and Early Modern Eras.
