Thread: Things that annoy you in TM

The Crypters are the link that ties it all together yeah. It's certainly better than part 1, but it's still an issue to an extent.

Lostbelts go poof, servants are servants. Etc.

It's a joke about the release schedule. The priority is clearly being funny, being right is just a bonus.

Not just the Crypters, every Lostbelt has a much more clear role in the big picture. LB1 is the basic "vanilla" introduction to what a Lostbelt is, LB2 is a full reintroduction of the concept of Sixth Imaginary Element that's being built up as the answer for both the Foreigner and the Beast VII plotlines, LB3 raises a lot of horrendously stupid questions about what Fantasy Trees are, LB4 is fully dedicated to portray a reincarnation cycle to enable the happy ending with everyone we killed having good time in the next cycle, and LB5 is the disc one climax with all the central mystery's key hints being delivered and the final boss showing her face.

They're getting better and better as they go along—at this rate, after they finish FGO, they'll have figured out how to write FGO!

Mystic Eyes of Death Perception was always a stupid name. It reminds me of fortune tellers you'd see at a fair. Arcane Eyes is cooler.

Also I sometimes call them “Mystic Eyes of Depth Perception”
I think it goes: "I don't trust people like me." — no, that's not it…

Our you ignore the 直視 pun completely and keep it as Mystic Eyes of Instant Death. It's just as descriptive of the effect as it is with the pun on.

The pun is what makes it a great name. Instantly memorable and iconic instead of a name only being a descriptor.

What's even more amusing is that I wasn't joking, I call them that by mistake, alot. Probably because the words eye and perception are located so close to death.

直視 (chokushi; look somebody [something] in the face, look squarely [straight] at)
直 (choku, tada, or jika; direct. Or jiki; immediately)
    死 (shi; death)
Throw it all together and you get 直死 (chokushi), which is usually translated as Death Perception.

Early Nasu loved these kind of puns, as you can see in Mad Enhancement (狂+強化), Dead Aspostle (死+使徒), and the whole red herring about ORT being Type Mercury.

Oh, ok. Japanese is probably one of the most punny languages, from what I've heard.

What was that about ORT being a red herring? I was under the impression it was Type Mercury.

    "Mercury's (?) Ultimate One"

This is from CM, so it was always in doubt that it was Type Mercury. Then in Olympus you have this:

The pun stuff is manyfold (assuming we're thinking of the same thing), like how ORT is オルト and Oort is オールト (which aren't really the same but close), Mercury is 水星 (suisei) which is how you also read 彗星, meaning comet. And ORT is the "spider", which is 蜘蛛 (kumo) which is also how you read 雲 meaning "cloud". So all in all through jp homophones you can make "mercury spider" into "comet cloud" and that's effectively what the Oort cloud is and so on.
