Hm I don't think there's that much I get generally annoyed with TM to be honest. The only thing that I really get irritated with is fans with absurd head-canon and are unwilling to compromise on them. You could interpret this as pretty most fans really If your particularly salty, but thats not how I consider it. Sometimes mistakenly believing your head-canon over established material is a fairly common thing, Hell I even do that sometimes. No the only times when it really gets annoying is when its stretched to an unbelievable degree that it starts to border arrogance and when they won't listen to any objections.

To give an example was when I talked to a guy who considered that everything other than Fate/Stay Night isn't canon. Yeah, over the course I gradually grew a feeling of wanting to be beat the crap out of something by the guy's stupid stubbornness. So as long you don't reach that level of idiocy you are fine in my book at least.

Understanding magecraft… is achieved by… not understanding it? And yet it can be taught, and there are several large schools for it. Or is understanding magecraft dependant on a lack of understanding of other things? That would make more sense, though still not nearly enough, and would also force Rin into a plot hole as it would mean studying hard enough to get really good grades in high school would suck out all of her talent as a Mage.

I'm probably just misunderstanding things, but that's how I've come to 'understand' how it works, and it sounds like a pile of oxymoronic bullshit.

I really hope I've misunderstood it. It is just aggravating.

What at are you even talking about? Magecraft is dependent on mystery, which is a bit different then "understanding" per-se. For instance, there's tons of professors and the like who certainly understand a lot about various mythologies, but I assume that doesn't degrade their fundamental mystery. Presumably the same is true of Magecraft.

Nasu's magic system is definitely Hard-based. I was thinking the Soft part of his universe is where people and their scale of ability comes from. Like the difference between a Control and non-controlled experiment.

But I was misplacing the soft part with what comes from the 2nd Law.

My greatest pet peeve with Type Moon is the lack of accuracy regarding their "interpretations" of historical figures. I'm okay with their way of reimagining mythological characters such as King Arthur and Sasaki Kojirō, because we no proof that they really existed. But it really strains my suspension of disbelief when they do it to people like Alexander the Great and Joan of Arc, because last I time checked, Joan of Arc wasn't a blond haired, braid-wearing, big-titted 19-year old who wore a silly and impractical-looking dress and nor was Alexander the Great a red haired, two meter tall giant who drove a chariot pulled by bulls that could summon lightning strikes by stomping.
