"Not spin-offs per se" is still not spin-offs
How much is the Switch gonna cost
is there any point now for a new3DS or WiiU
300$ and not really? Unless you've never had a 3DS since there are plenty of good games but otherwise nah
Waypoint/Vice doesn't do traditional reviews in favor of analysis and interviews, but EiC Austin Walker did a bit on BotW.

hi, Skyward Sword was okay, Metroid Other M sucked and Breath of the Wild looks honestly ridiculous and good
these are my takes in this issue
it's refreshing to be this optimistic about an upcoming game, thank you zelda
I broke and ordered the Wii U version.
This also involved ordering a charge cable for the gamepad and a sensor bar since they were destroyed/lost respectively.
I'll be getting that version tomorrow. I don't think the sensor bar is generally necessary unless you use it to play Wii games.
Same
BotW is fun so far bit there's a few things that are kind of bothersome
climbing is fun, climbing up a fucking sheer cliff face and waiting on overhangs to regen stamina to reach an annoying shrine is not, towers are a pain too. Especially that fucking central tower where two guardians will fuck you up with lasers as you climb up.
Weapon Durability is ass. metal and guardian weapons need significantly more durability. I'm fine with the Boko and rusted weapons being low durability since it kind of fits them but geez, I wish my nice 50 attack claymore could do more than 15 hits before breaking
Horse ai, they refuse to walk in the general direction of enemies. As soon as enemies are in the area, they start veering off in random directions until you calm them down.
Frame drops are awful. Not bad enough for the game to be unplayable but enough for me to go ugh. Turning the wii u output to 1080i solves this though, but I hate how it looks in comparison
also, not a bad point, but Guardians are fucking scary
also the shrine puzzles remind me of Portal more than anything else

I think I heard in a stream that the horses IA learns over time, you have to feed them apples when they do something good and that will make them repeat say action more often.
Yeah the central tower with the guardians is annoying and those two shrines atop the twin peaks. I watched my brother climb up there so many times. There have been some towers that have actually basically been pretty fun puzzles and some just surrounded by loads of enemies XD.

Also yeah weapon durability is ass for everything that isn't a cool sorta unique weapon that you might find in a chest in a shire or in one case. Thing is you replenish weapons so quickly that it doesn't really matter if you are losing weapons unless you are in an area with shitty weapons and then in which case, why are you using good weapons when the trash weapons the enemies are using will perfectly suffice?Spoiler:

I've played a bit and it ran straight at enemies when I made it. Soothe them more for obedience
You do realize "you should have gotten the version requiring you to drop 300 dollars on a new console" is a really terrible argument, right
The frame rate is generally considered to be the same on both consoles actually.
It's not that simple.
I just read pages 18 to 24 in the following NeoGAF thread:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1349554
The consenseous regarding framerate is:
Portable-Switch > Docked-Switch > Wii U
The following are estimates based on what I read from that thread; I have not actually played the game in all 3 ways.
Portable-Switch: 30fps for ~95% of the time, 20fps for ~5%.
Docked-Switch: 30fps for ~60% of the time, 20fps for ~30%, 15fps for ~10%.
Wii U: 30fps for ~20% of the time, 20fps for ~40%, 15fps for ~20%, 12fps and lower for ~20%.
There are three variables at play here, but you can only choose two:
inexpensive, performance, immediacy
- inexpensive
+ performance
+ immediacy
Switch
+ inexpensive
- performance
+ immediacy
Wii U
+ inexpensive
+ performance
- immediacy
