Well, there has always been Lovecraft stuff in Salem , the names were the biggest clue, and the Elder Ghouls also looked like Lovecraft monsters according to a commenter.

The names for example.
Randolph Carter - Literally Lovecraft's self insert in the stories he appeared in.
The Whateleys - Also Lovecraft, from the Dunwhich Horror.
Captain Marsh- not sure the story, but I heard he was from Lovecraft too.
Migo- even the bear Abby gave to Lavinia is from Lovecraft!

I'd say its been foreshadowed from the start! Of course, I'm bias, I like the Eldritch horror stuff.

Finally done with Salem.

So the real "Carter"'s soul was still connected to his then-possessed body with Raum's consent, enabling him to return. After a quick search, I take it he went by the name Swami Chandraputra here, and offered Abigail to travel with him through time and space instead of disappearing with Salem.

So the Sanson in Chaldea post-Salem is actually a resummoned Sanson, but with memories before Salem imprinted on him, courtesy of Abigail.

As thematically different as Salem and Shimousa are, they're probably tied for my favorite EoR chapters. This was really good. I especially liked near the end when the mist started to fall; ironic that while Scheherezade was the villain who wanted to reveal magecraft and weaken Mystery, Raum was the one who came closest to doing it. I have no idea how in the world this incident is going to be covered up, especially if citizens' magical energy from the entire continent started getting funneled into Salem like Da Vinci said.

One thing I'm not clear on though:

Was Abby being a "living Silver Key" something she was born with, or a result of Sut-Typhon possessing her? I would think she was born with it and it's why Sut-Typhon could contact her in the first place, except the real Carter called it Raum's parting gift, which makes me think it was a result of the possession.

Yeah! I really liked Shimousa, even if it felt a bit dull at times! Salem is my second favorite FGO story so far, only rivaled by Solomon!

I believe she always was judging by Raum's ex-positing of Abby's 'sins', and how she was the main reason anything happened there, including the reason everyone but the guests in the town were ghouls, never dying or living, or why 'visitors' kept appearing. It was all Abigail interfering with it subconciously, opening gates in Space-Time.

Also I'm sure this was stated before, Sut-Typhon is just another name for Yog-Sothoth, which in Lovecraft is the exact same thing as the root, except it exists outside of EVERYTHING, if it wasn't for Azathoth in the Lovecraft Mythos, Yog would be top dog. Abigail had that much power and only 'lost' cause she got mentally exhausted by rewinding time in her boss fight.

Basically, the answer is 'Yes' for both, as Raum was the reason she unlocked the ability via him forcing her through Salem multiple times, but also yes cause she was born for it.

yep all the timelocks are gone, you can finish Salem and get to farming Stakes or the rest of the Free Quests there.
