Class Skills:
Magic Resistance B:
"In the heights of Ystavingon, Cai pierced nine witches."
Cancel spells with a chant below three verses. Even if targeted by
High-Thaumaturgy and
Greater Rituals, it is difficult for them to be affected.
Riding B:
"So Kai and Gwrhyr Gwalstawd Ieithoedd went upon the two shoulders of the salmon…"
Most vehicles and animals can be handled with above average skill, even vehicles that did not exist in the time period one was alive in for they are no exception. However, cannot ride the likes of Phantasmal Species such as
Monstrous Beasts.
Personal Skills:
Unnatural Body B:
Unnatural Body is the possession of a body with unnatural traits since birth. It is the opposite of the Natural Body skill. Instead of a perfect body as a human being, users of this skill have bodies that are flawed in most aspects but have a few supernatural traits that surpass natural perfection.
In Kay’s case, this skill grants him the following physical traits:
· The ability to grow as tall as a tree
· The ability to heat strong enough to dry wet objects in an instant
· The ability to last nine days without food, water, or breath
· The ability to drink as much as four men
Deep Wounds C:
Deep Wounds is a skill that displays one’s ability to cause lasting damage. Any wounds dealt by the user cannot be healed through natural means, either the hand of man or time. It is similar to the effect of a number of Noble Phantasms but is a skill inherent to a person rather than to a sword.
It was said that no physician could heal a wound from Kay’s sword. However, at this rank, while natural methods would not work, an ability that defies nature can; in other words, magecraft can be used to heal the wounds easily.
Pride of the Rearguard C:
Pride of the Rearguard is a unique Skill that displays more power the more disadvantageous the situation (such as defensive battles, military withdrawals, etc.) is.
Kay was the only one of the knights Artoria had complete faith in to be entrusted with the rear guard in their campaigns. His strength as a knight best shines the worse the situation is.
Knightly Tactics B:
Knightly Tactics is a battle methodology in which one grasps the flow of battle and induces the opponent to make a mistake, even without being a match for him/her in strength. A Skill not for self-strengthening, but to invite a check failure for the opponent. Consists of composed observation powers to wager on a momentary chance of victory.
Noble Phantasm
Cheating Liar Game
Royal Flush
Type: Anti-Unit (Self)
Rank: C
The nastiest noble phantasm that tramples on the honour and legacies of every hero. An innate illusion-type noble phantasm that activates whenever Kay lies. Any and all boasts he makes have the possibility of becoming true and empowering him. By claiming credit for the glory of other heroes, he can effectively rewrite his own legend to attribute the feats of others to himself. By doing so, he can gain the subsequent skills and noble phantasms of other Heroic Spirits.
Of course, this is not an ability that he had in life, but rather a power only possible due to the nature of Heroic Spirits. As Heroic Spirits are the products of their legends, Kay can artificially change himself by altering his own legacy. To do this, he must lie to one or more targets and vocally convince them of his claims. Operating under the concept that “A lie becomes true when everyone believes it”, as long as Kay manages to convince his targets that he indeed has so-and-so than he will be able to borrow the rewards of the corresponding legend. For the man who spent his career boasting about skills he never had, bragging about feats he never accomplished, and trying to claim the credit for other knight’s deeds, it is truly an embodiment of his everything.
While the potential for this noble phantasm seems high, it is, in practice, generally useless. For the noble phantasm to work, every single person must believe the lie completely. If even one of them has a shred of doubt, including Kay’s own master, the noble phantasm fails. Even if the ability succeeds at first, if a new person hears the lie, whether through Kay himself or one of the former targets, and doubts it, the illusion is broken. For example, in order to borrow the holy sword Excalibur, Kay would have to claim that he possessed the sword in life and currently wields it right now, which any decently well-versed person would be skeptical of and convincing them of the lie would be very difficult even for a person of Kay’s capabilities. The more well-known a legend, the more powerful it is but also the more difficult it will be to claim. Furthermore, the effect is only temporary as the world will eventually recognize the deceit and correct the illusion.
In the end, though Kay often bragged in life, his boasts were mostly unsuccessful. His deceit was seen through and he was known as an incompetent braggart. He only worsened his reputation and never did manage to steal another knight’s credit. Just as always, this noble phantasm is a practically worthless weapon that has a very low chance to succeed and even lower chance to be effective.
Other Abilities
Kay is a decent swordsman. What he lacks in skill, he generally makes up for in tenacity and trickery. He is especially good at leading an army, one of Britain’s three battle-diademed knights, though his military skills are noted to be inferior to Bedivere.
None of the lauded knights were a better rearguard than Kay. Fighting a losing battle is more difficult than a victorious one and that is exactly where Kay excelled. His perfect understanding of his own capabilities, willingness to decide who died and who lived, and absolute determination to not die made him the perfect rearguard.
He has no artistic ability. For mechanical tasks, such as sword polishing or armor mending, he is unmatched but once creativity is involved, his skills crumble. Notably bad at carving, he also admits not being a poet.
