Isekai, the fantasy setting where (usually) modern people are transported to a fantasy world, a game world, or some strange setting (as well as the reverse). This kind of background has existed for at least 20 years but has become very popular in the last 5.

What are your favorite series? What are your most hated ones? Is time travel i.e. Zippang, Shut Hell, and Gunjou Senki isekai? Why is this a bad trend in anime/manga/novels? Was publishing people who failed the first time in getting their novel published because their story got popular online (where its free) a mistake? Is the setting necessarily bad or can it be done well?

Isekai Yakkyoku is a newer one that people have told me about but again haven't read it

Konosuba is good. Re:Zero is alright. Any slave harem isekai is bad by default.

Can this thread also be where we post ideas for our own spins on the isekai genre? Because I think it'd be interesting to have the summoned MC be a destined villain rather then hero. As in, the world s/he is summoned into would have a prophesy about a legendary evil being summoned from another world, and the MC's arrival would just happen to fit with said prophecy.

Grimgar of Ash and Fantasy (first three volumes, two which is covered in the anime, I don't feel the rest of the series did it justice >_>)
Log Horizon (Haven't kept up since vol 8 or 9), anime is also good
Re:Zero (pls ignore its rabid fanbase also it becomes shit after volume 9, which is about where the anime stops)
Immortal Regis/Cavalier of the Abyss (a manhwa which starts as a p typical isekai but after its time skip inbetween the first and second series it makes an interesting turn by changing the mc)
'I am standing on the lives of 1 million people'/100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatte Iru (tbh this is more like Gantz then an isekai, but it clearly borrowed more from isekai, its something I'm really enjoying right now, also this possibly will go Bokurano)

Are all series that are genuinely good imo

Oh and if you count the 'time travel series' I mentioned before, Shut Hell was amazing, and Gunjou Senki is sad to see >_>.

I'm relatively sure that's happened at least once and I think you would be better served to just throw an isekai fanfic ideas thread in that section.

The closest thing I can think of is Overlord, but that's not quite what I have in mind. And I've thought of making an original anime/manga ideas thread, but I figured I'd probably just get a lot of joke replies.

Alternatively, an isekai hero who uses some talent other then magic/hax abilities to save the day. Engineering, say. Knowing how to build modern siege weapons in a medieval-flavored fantasy setting isn't something to be underestimated.
