The other option I thought of was to use a yellow ring - arguably the least suited for him aside from blue - because it can modulate its output to act as sunlight. But then, given what blue rings are and how they work, I'm not sure they aren't automatic holy items. Either way, they're handy things to have when you're up against Dead Apostles, and all.
Which is not to say that things will be an automatic curb-stomp; even aside from Nero (and Roa's) native abilities, this version probably wouldn't have a lantern. With no power battery to charge from, he'll have to rely on the ring drawing from the ambient emotions in his surroundings - not a big deal, in this scenario, if he's working with fear, but hope . . .
But then, why should I make it easy?
