Gae Dearg doesn't cut through stuff whether it's permanent or not. What it cuts is the flow of magically energy. If you would see an armor enhanced to be harder than that armor would have been Reinforced. That's permanent, but Dearg can cut through stuff like that. What the energy is doing in that case is making the armor harder, when Gae Dearg touches that the energy is cut and the armor is no longer magically hard. How i know this to be the case? KoO. What KoO does is reinforce objects to be on the level of NPs, but Dearg can cut through those as easily as anything else

1) There is no Grand class buff. Grand is a saint graph extremely superior compare to normal.

A somewhat related note, I used to think Grands were OP because of their saint graph. But after reading the NA version in London, It looks like they're chosen as grands because they were the strongest heroes in history to begin with. Did Nasu retcon Gilgamesh?

No, Grands were always chosen from the most powerful of Servants. But the thing is much of their strength does come from their Saint Graph. Now this isn't really a buff then it is an expansion of parameters. Take as nascar driver. He would still be a very good driver in a normal car but in a racing car he can do so much more. Nope he's still the strongest, but he's just in a normal class. Like in my example earlier he wouldn't be a Nascar driver but a freaking sci-fi guy from the future with flying rocket cars. But he's still only gonna be driving a normal car.

He is the strongest proper eirei. Not-proper eireis or han-eirei or shinrei turning eirei or bla bla...etc can possibly surpass him and you can't say anything about that.
Also Goetia did said the Grands are the best of their class. So while Gil can do a wide range of bullshit, he's not the best of any of the 7 standard classes.

Da Vinci's NP is powerful but she doesn't seem nearly as useful combat wise as it would suggest.

Holmes has combat related abilities and has been referred to as combat capable by Gordolf so he would beat a Caster. But it's not clear why Da Vinci's NP doesn't make as big a difference as it should.
