Yeah, we have that reputation, especially on the Fate subreddits.

I think that might have been true say 5-6 years ago but less so now.
BL is now mostly either Random Thoughts or GO general with a dash of No longer in GD GO ham wild Create-a-Servant

I barely check most of the site anymore because combing through for actual content is a tremendous chore.
I used to try to mitigate this by making lists/digests, but then I became busier and less committed.
Systematic content curating of any kind would have helped, but I'm afraid it's a bit too late now.
also someone (not you coke) translate the last 3 chapters of KnK pls

I've just noticed the former post didn't touch the subject of megathreads, so, *inhales deeply*
MEGA VS MICRO THREADS: A CONTENT CURATOR'S PERSPECTIVE
MEGATHREADS MICROTHREADS + Simplify the general search for content by centralizing it Simplify the search for specific content
Make new content prominent- Topics become muddled
Lines of discussion intermingle
Threads become noisy and hard to navigate
Eventually the front page becomes an intimidating cromlech of old threadsThread index becomes noisy
Old content becomes buried and hard to review in absence of decent curating tools
For microthreads to work you need a reddit kind of system where the good stuff floats to the top.
Macrothreads don't work, period.
In either case, a vBulletin forum isn't a good way to store content unless several people put a ton of work.

I propose a new system where there is only one thread, but all posts are automatically deleted after ten minutes and content curation is handled in the memory of whoever happened to be around to see it.
ah, the good old "I totally recall arai saying that in old BL" argument

Lol. I'm fine with megathreads. Attempting to curate content into microthreads might sound good in principle, but it could be stifling to conversation here. The derails of a thread are sometimes as worthwhile as the original topic. If people have an issue with the derail of a given thread, they can just reintroduce the topic, as aldeayeah provided an example of.

So, mods, what’s going on with this? It seems like there’s a clear majority here.

Not sure what you expected to happen. I made sure to clarify that there wasn't a specific change riding on the poll's outcome beyond letting future standalone threads remain open, which is already being done.
I guess I was just kind of expecting certain megathreads to sort of get turned into subheadings within the forum. Like, not directly turned into, of course, but for there to be a new subforum within General called Miscellaneous Thoughts Threads

I guess i'm still a newcomer whose post count hasn't even reached 100, but still...
My opinion is that megathreads basically turn searching for content a nearly-impossible task unless the content gets somehow indexed, but from my own experiences here, there and everywhere, the flow of information isn't truly linear enough to get indexed in any way. The end result is that, metaphorically-wise, trying to place an entire library into ten books doesn't work, imo.
Cheap banter works fine on the megathreads, but quality content kinda gets lost on them, although the whole 'feel of activity' on those threads is also interesting... The only solution might be to have certain topics copied to their own threads after they've acquired enough motion to move on their own, while still maintaing the originals on the megas... I also think that it might be interesting not to have people crucified for creating a whole thread of a subject...
One thing is for sure, though, megathreads kill smaller threads. Smaller, one-subject only thread don't kill banter. Megathreads kill smaller threads, still. Assuming only one choice was available, smaller threads are the way to go, i say.
