I never cared much for Iskandar in Zero.
On another note, what are the reasons for the Apocrypha hate I see so often? (apart from Amakusa Shirou Tokisada doing nothing wrong) Actually curious here, don't mean to argue for Apocrypha's brilliancy.
lets see
Sieg the protag gets power ups for 'poor reasoning' and is as bland as a salad without dressing
Almost all the characters get too little time in the spotlight, making their presence less meaningful
A lot of it feels like copy pasting various elements of F/SN
Astolfo is, a thing now
think those are the main points
The prose is very bland, and the story is a succession of good ideas brought down by poor execution.
True enough. I guess going from SN and Zero to Apocrypha is not that pleasant. Guess having Apocrypha be my entry point into the series only made things get better from then on.

I feel like it would've been a masterful move, if, after all the favoritism towards Sieg, Shirou won at the end.
But then the big treemaestro would look at this timeline, check where its heading only to think to himself, this tree don't need that branch anymore, snip snip snip
which ain't a great ending imo
I know little of GO, but it's nice to see that there are deeper metaphysical measures of preventing human happiness out there.
course, there's no telling how much the outcome of Amakusa's plan resembles the Age of Will, so maybe he was still right all along and maybe Sieg was still wrong. :^)

Remember, Big J dying did something to enough of the texture of the world that it was enough to eventually put the world onto an unambiguous path to an Age of Man.

Oh hey let's formally make that into an UnpopOp (altho this one is more a headcanon, really):
I'm not convinced that Amakusa winning F/Ap the way he planned to win would lock the world into erasure. It, in a twist of irony, could do so, but we don't know enough ATM to say for sure.

Something something 'The evil dragon who steals salvation from humanity'
My Fanfics. Read 'em. Or not.McJon01: We all know that the real reason Archer would lose to Rider is because the events of his own Holy Grail War left him with a particular weakness toward "older sister" types.
I prefer it being an uncertainty, casting Fafnir and the Rheingold curse into either shades of good or evil
but ultimately I doubt Amakusa getting his utopia like this wouldn't cause a purge
is that really an unpopular opinion though
Depends on who you ask.
As in, most of the takes that I've seen publicly espoused are generally of the mind that it's good that Sieg stopped humanity from getting turned into immortal ghosts (or how exactly Heaven's Feel would've given humanity immortality).
As I said above, I don't think it was necessarily a good thing. I like it being ambiguous, but if I had to choose between it being good or bad I'd like to side with the notion that Sieg's selfishness was more harmful to humanity, at that moment, than Amakusa's selflessness was.

You gotta eat your vegetables before you eat your dessert, and you gotta see the flawed anime before you wash away the aftertaste with the visual novel.

I kinda wish Astolfo hadnt gotten so popular. He was a pretty refreshing character that livened up the staleness of Apoc but now to most people hes just a meme.
On the other hand, I dont hate all that art hes getting.
The end justifies the memes
His inability to stop crossdressing in official art certainly doesn't do much about to stop the memery
