In terms of artistic merit, sure, but I'd argue that speaks more to the overall quality of Fate spin-offs than Zero's.

Fate/Zero is the better Grail War story, but Fate/Stay Night tells a better story overall.

FZ still had decent characterization, but Gen seemed a lot more hellbent on putting the "war" in Grail War. And that set the tone for the rest of the franchise, really. Each new spinoff feels as if it plunges deeper and deeper into the summer blockbuster territory of style over substance.

It's only a matter of time before I go full hipster and come back here to post that DDD is better than the newest Fate/whatever.

I mean, his personal style stamp aside, Urobuchi definitely wrote closer to what a "true" Holy Grail War as described by Nasu would be: A free-for-all of the desperate and the determined, barely hidden under the guise of an honorable ritual. F/SN was typical Nasu "introduce the rule, then immediately discard it" in that 5/7 of its participants were teenagers, irregulars, or both at once. And both together fit perfectly with the overall narrative about the ritual's validity degrading over time as people kept failing to complete it.

Can anyone explain to me what exactly is 'toxic, gate-keeping, and pretentious' about this 'shithole' of a community? I feel like I joined in fairly late in the game here, but I've never been under that impression at all. I mean, the main two places I've interacted with this community are in the translation and fanfic sections, the places I would intuitively think had the absolute peak levels of pretentious, toxic, and entitled assholes, but the worst experience I've ever had here is 'one time no one replied to one of my posts.'

There's my unpopular opinion. BL is full of nice, friendly, welcoming people who didn't do nothin wrong.

Maybe if you guys were bigger assholes it wouldn't be so easy for me to slack off on Case Files.
