I get the thematic significance (at least I think I do). What I find baffling is that it exists. An animated spin-off to an (unpublished) AU version of a story from a niche JRPG, which is also heavily fractured and handles key events of its own plot off-screen? Feels like it came from a parallel universe in which EXTRA made it big (or that Type-Moon really needed some money to burn).

Neither Kohaku or Sakura are really "yandere." If anything the sister figures in TM, such as Akiha (via possession) and Illya, are sort of more yandere.
Totally agree with Akiha but Illya does not have romantic feeling for Shirou in the original FSN AFAIK.... Prillyaverse OTOH... is totally jailbait
Akiha's impulses aside, I thinks she might just be a dom. Like, that is it. She is too calm normally to be naturally inclined being a yandere.
Ilya had issues with Shirou due to Kiritsugu, but afterwards is firmly skirting the line of romanticism to desperately wanting whatever vestiges of family she can get, the possession bits seems to be offshoots of her upbringing in a aristocratic type environment.
I can't believe that Illya just wanted to use Shirou for his body.

Sakura is not a yandere . Its about Rin , .."Nee san was always lucky, always perfect now even stealing sempai"? and it only in eavens feel because Shiro finally notices Sakura
Normally Sakura consider herslelf unworthy , so if someone else gets Siro , she will accept it , even in UBW wit no other than Rin takes him to London, Sakura dont get crazy.
Actaully , i dont see any Type moon girls as textbook Yandere.
