Machines do not lose their worth when a newer model appears.
Their worth (life) ends when humans can no longer bear that purity.
When you hate FGO not in response to any particular contingent feature, but through and beyond a comprehension of the structural totality. It is not enough to be able to point to 'lazy art' (takeuchi), 'historical inaccuracy' (what is accuracy?), 'bad gameplay' (as if it's about the gameplay), 'bad writing' (most people saying this don't even read japanese), 'bad localisation' (ditto), or 'glorified pachinko' (you can, as we all know 'pLaY fOr FrEe') etc etc. as a reason for disliking FGO; these reasons will remain shallow and superficial if you don't understand how at every point they are mediated by the totality of FGO as a system. It is not enough to hate FGO 'cuz bad lol'. You need to understand why it is bad, and the ways in which it is necessarily bad because of what it essentially is. Otherwise your position is no better than that of the gachabrains, who by and large 'like' FGO for equally shallow and superficial reasons

If you decry it, then why do you recommend playing it? Is it not a better experience to salvage the good while discarding the bad?
Playing FGO and decrying it at the same time is not really a contradiction. It's likely a necessary component of most people's relationship with the game.
This is not specific to FGO, the ironic-humorous derision of one's "low-quality" pastimes is universal. Most who over-indulge in Netflix series, bad romantic comedies, generally trash television etc. will be ready to point out just how flawed their distraction of choice is.
The profiteers of FGO have no reason not to welcome this kind of player with open arms. In fact, they cater to him/her, as he/she's fully within the gacha machine.
I mean, if you care enough to read the story I'd say playing it is definitely a better experience. As minimal as it is, they do integrate story on the gameplay. The repeated battles against Lahmus and the weird way they move in battle definitely sells how scary and numerous they are better than blood effects on a VN section with no narration. Gawain seems more oppressive when you actually get fucked in-battle. Lostbelt 1 spoilers
Though it does mean you'd have to invest much more time in the game in general which might not be worth it.
It's definitely not worth it. Hours and hours of mindless grinding and dull gameplay for what, marginally more immersion?

I mean he's totally right about the wasting hours though. Grinding currency for events is just as, if not more, boring.
I basically only play events to get through the story unless I'm in dire need of some mat, and otherwise only play story chapters using the few servants I have maxed already along with supports. Anyone who argues against playing it on the basis of "I don't want to grind just to read the story in-game" has no idea what they're talking about.
The grind is part of the game and the story. Either you dispense of it entirely or you dive into it wholeheartedly or you hold your nose and wade through as fast as possible, like you do.
Unless you're saying all those wyvern fights and filler battles add to the experience?
They don't, but I also don't care so much about them.
Though I'm noticing that you despise the gameplay so yeah, I guess they'd be that bad then.
I like Takeuchi

At least he's not Greg Land.
At least Takeuchi would have a reason to trace porno mags for his stuff.

Takeuchi can still be good when he tries like with the HF key visuals, but most of the time his art is really uninspired and feels like it was churned out by a takeuchi simulating machine. Hes gotten too comfortable with his stock poses and faces. His eye for character design has gotten a lot worse too, tho that might also be partially attributed to gacha game chara design attitude. Not to mention that he never learned to properly color his own works which is really questionable of an illustrator of his status.
tsuki remake would be cool to see because the various expressions required for the tachi-e would force takeuchi out of his comfort zone a bit.
