It's just that Apo doesn't manage to do a silent character right. Poor Fran.

while you are generally correct i think we all share the same reality where apo isnt a marvel of subtle visual storytelling either (actual animation is pretty good though, no hate there)

except for when mordred started picking fights with a cat. that was groundbreaking

I think it has more to do with the fact Nasu's mostly tackling Eastern philosophy, with elements that are heavily rooted in buddhism such as the Taiji, topics that the vast majority of his audience aren't really familiar with (even more so outside of Japan/Asia). That with his tendency to combine those elements with things such as theology and thick magic-babble aka what I would refer to as "Nasuism", it's not surprising that only folks who are both knowledgeable in Buddhism and with a PhD in Nasuverse jargon are fully able to grasp what he's really talking about.

To his credit, there are cases where it all works out wonderfully such as in Paradox Spiral. But then you also have moments where the execution is so laughably heavy handed, to the point its beat over your head for near 3 episodes straight. Though the latter is mostly egregious in the anime, thanks to Miura being a complete hack of a director.

Hard disagree, I am familair at times with eastern philosophy which does have trends in the works.

It's still gobblydegook even now however, it doesn't even work with his world-building (nor his trend to suddenly change his opinion or have a work have a thing as a pro and that pro being something he railed against a few years back)

To expand on this, Whenever nasu goes into his 'interests' or his philosophy, the works immediately get worse or become a long lasting detriment to the setting.

Time culling, a lot of shit in CCC, general root shit, ect.

Not that any of this currently matters at this point since the majority of his audience these days care more about which upcoming historical figure will get to be transformed into a cute anime girl in which they can justify their gambling addiction on.

That is very much true, and nasu does deliver on that.

He talks quite a bit in the original, and even in Road Warrior he's not nearly as silent or stoic as he is in Fury Road, for instance. It's really Thunderdome which starts his transition from the character Max Rockatansky to more of an archetype in the veins of Eastwood's Man With No Name.
(Though it's worth pointing out he's also far more talkative in Thunderdome than in Fury Road, which isn't really his story, it's Furiosa's.)

Indeed, why bother putting actual effort into your story, characters and themes when you can just follow the Apocrypha way of doing things in giving all the characters a singular trait and inserting them into an increasingly nonsensical, shallow JRPG storyline.

True, but guda has no trait outside of 'exists' lets be real here.

But that makes me look down on his themes and philosophy even more if he wants to do otaku baiting.

The whole gacha industry itself is basically sustained by otaku money. In this case, it's Aniplex and Sony trying to rack up as much yen as they can before finding the next big thing. Having "otaku baiting" elements in of itself doesn't automatically dismiss a work and its themes (Hell if FSN wasn't made as an eroge, we probably wouldn't even be having this discussion right now), it's just in the case of works like FGO, the otaku baiting is the meat and potatoes of the game with everything else playing second fiddle to it (when it used to be the other way around).

I understand what you mean, but when the otaku baiting goes against nasu's themes (regardless of how bad they made be) it does come off as less than sincere.

Not sure what specifically you are referring to. The fact that Tsukihime/FSN had porn in it and that it conflicted with the games' themes?

Nah more recent stuff, I dont mind references to tantra since thats real but more nasu's general themes vs 'roll for waifu'

Hard to put into words and I don't think I would explain it well.
