I am pretty sure I asked for a central authority figure and just used those two because everyone knows what they are. I could've used the deities of TES, the Precursors from Halo or the Soul King from Bleach. Message is the same: who's the "person of last resort" not just to Earth or a peculiar world but to the entirety of the Nasuverse.

That's more "collective unconscious" than what I am asking for, which is essentially "I do what I want, to who I want and whenever/wherever I want, and no one ever denies me, for better or for worse because guess what? I am supreme lord of this freaking universe/multiverse/all timelines. Nothing is beyond me!"

    That kind of thing.

He wants TM to be like Marvel/DC, which says enough in the end.
I just want to know who's the guy in charge around this place.

They're not the one who comes out and resets or actively messes with things.
Because I never mentioned they had to be the entity that messed with stuff! I know that's actually a thing the freaking Living Tribunal does. The issue is that there always has to be a power cap that cannot be exceeded, a kind of "power level ceiling" that's not relative and upon which everything else can be measured against.

Which, I mean, sure, you do you... But from a storytelling perspective, what's the point? What would the concept actually add?
They could be "somebodies" as well, but they need to be able to do this sort of shit consciously. I kind of like putting a face to the nearest source of cosmic force in a setting. I could've also asked "which is the most powerful entity in the Nasuverse, the one all the known characters working together couldn't defeat and said entity(ies) could wipe out with a mere thought?"

I would've thought it was Shiki, but the fact they mentioned a Servant would off her mid dif is not exactly telling. Tiamat was restrained, so that's a no as well. This needs to be an entity that, in a theoretical fight, cannot be challenged. Even if said entity does nothing except watch from gods know where.

I kind of like "centrality" and finality. Knowing that things "forever went unexplained". I kind of like being able to say "this guy just shits on everyone everywhere" when I'm getting into a setting, because said guy runs the show!

I guess the simplest way of addressing it is, "who's Nasu's character avatar, complete with the power to erase characters in universe when the actual guy does so IRL"?

Like, even people who are into the TOAA and Living Tribunal and the Beyonder and the like know TOAA is just deified Stan Lee. The reason the TOAA is almighty is because he's the author, albeit embodied in universe! Gravity Falls uses the same logic with Axolotl (the GF crew) and mister Bill Cipher (Hirsch himself).

Who's the "this is an announcement from real life" character?

Ok, what's the closest thing to it? Sometimes even cosmic stories don't have a divinity, but they have someone who's acknowledged as "de facto in charge" of the setting, because they are far above everything to the point no one known can say no to them. Who's even said character in the Nasuverse?

On the other hand, I have no idea why the notion that the Nasuverse has a supreme cosmic being is so irksome when I'm just asking if it exists and if not, who gets closest.

Off the top of my mind, I'm thinking of the aliens who created the Moon Cell, given how ancient they are...

I understand the idea of "You take the red pill, and I show you how high the powerlevels go", and in fact, that's generally a good thing to have in a story with any sort of power progression otherwise you end up like bloody Dragonball or Bleach, but no story needs an author avatar, and author avatars should be purged like the garbage they are, because if you can't write in your authorial message without SelfInsertHere standing up and talking at the screen, you don't deserve to have readers.

At least, the management company have denied the NPC theory.

Sounds like you're just looking for some capital "G" God, which good news, there's a whole "religion" (if you can even call the Nasuverse rendition of the Church that) around Him.
The Fourth Order - Long form, Church-centric story. Follows the life of a young knight within the Church, and her personal battle against the heretical.
My other fanfiction - Almost entirely short stories and oneshots, except for the above

I guess True Magic sorta is an unsurmountable limit? Since you can't do it with science or whatever

The comparison to Marvel where everyone's been expanding on Stan Lee's universe for decades is more direct, I don't think an equivalent "original author" exists in DC.

I don't read DC comics, but the best Marvel comics have consistently been the ones where the author is given free reign, and don't need to bother much with continuity or crossovers (although every now and then some authors manage to pull off some impressive continuity porn)

Nope. Eventually those too would be doable. Extra killed the 3rd.

But new ones, in theory, can still show up if someone manage to reach the Root and get a new one never seen b4.

I need to read some of the better runs at some point.

Honestly I can at least respect dc and marvel even if there super inconsistent but there willing to say 'that shit isnt canon' or 'this is a earth with entirely different history' instead of going 'this is a alt timeline for 3 minor inconsistencies' that nasu does, even if marvel and DC cant keep to that.

I rather not having any retcons then having so many that you eventually have to start retconning the retcons.

I agree with the self insert idea, but what I am indeed looking is the first. Even after mentioning this, some authors like to make themselves into the all powerful lynchpin instead of creating a character for that (The Presence in DC evolved into this).

Decolonization ended up feeling a bit like that from what I understand.

That's because most stories don't go cosmic and those who don't (The Heart of the Universe timeline) are granted non-canon status.

I thought the Root simply decided that whoever was worthy got True Magic (whichever they wanted) and if not the Shadow ate you, but the last time I read about the Root was... three years ago.

EDIT: Wait a sec, wouldn't that "Shadow" be close enough to what I am looking at? Has it been destroyed or destroyed something/someone with a name yet? If it's linked to Akasha, you could argue it would destroy anything and return it to the Root by force... wouldn't it?

Is there any side material on what that thing is?

This is kind of why you either need to centralize management (Nasu curates everything) or even opt for a Shared Universe/Multiverse: set specific dos and don'ts...
