    Prushka

    "Ah, it's that late..."

The golden view out of the window is slowly becoming darker. Time sure flies. Even when you'd much rather it stay still. I'd like to stay a bit longer; Alpa's fun to hang out with. But if those two are about to leave now, then...

"Alpa, I'm just gonna say goodbye, be right back - got a sec, Ubon? You should definitely go with John or he'll try to Dove his way through everything, but I just wanted to, um..."

There's one thing is all. Okay, maybe two, but one of them is just for me.

    "It's embarassing..."

Ubon, who had been about to chase down John Dove (not caring whether or not he was actually escaping), came to a halt and looked at the smaller girl. Confusion clearly visible on her face, the cyanhead tilted her head, putting her hands on her hips.

"Hmh? What's up, Prushie?" she asked, smiling widely. "It's not like there's anything that embarrassing to speak between us, right! So go ahead!"

She even looked a bit kiddy, wondering what the other girl was going to ask.

    John Dove

John interrupts his verification of the contents of his bag. There is one thing he has to do before leaving the campus for the evening. However, Prushka seems to want a little bit more of everyone’s time.

“…Prushka,” he begins. “Here you are with two people who will accept whatever you have to say, and one who simply does not care enough to look down on you for anything you say. In these circumstances, why would you hold yourself back?”

A man who always knows the right thing to say: John Dove.

    Prushka

    "Uuu... you're right, but..."

But it's still embarrassing. Especially when you're the one saying it, John Dove. It's just too suspicious!

    "Um, Ubon... can... can..."

If not now, when? There might not be another chance. So don't hesitate now.

I tear my eyes away from the floor and force myself to look straight ahead at the girl.

    "CouldIhugyou?"

    John Dove

See? It’s not even any of my business. Nothing to mock there.

However, John Dove keeps the words conjured in his mind exclusively to himself, thus proving he might actually possess actual wisdom.

    "Hmm, I dunno~"

Ubon's voice was practically loaded with giddiness as she approached closer and closer to Prushka. She clasped her hands behind her back, rocking from side to side in an exaggerated way, playfully acting as if she was really deliberating the question. Like a predator, she inched closer and closer to Prushka, until...!

    "Howaboutyesyesyesyes!"

With a squeal of a teenage girl past her limits with cuteness, Prushka found herself glomped into a terrifying bear hug that threatened to push the air out of her lungs. Ubon was practically squeezing her against her body, swinging from side to side - and doing the same to the shorter girl.

It was like watching an especially happy golden retriever spin their favorite ragdoll around.

    John Dove

With all the conspicuousness of a chameleon in its natural habitat, John Dove naturally inches close to the sole remaining girl with a normal blood pressure in this scene.

“And this lesson, young Alpa, might be the most important thing you will gain from today,” he says, sounding somewhat sagely.

A girl who knows not human warmth and a boy who cares not for it stand as witnesses to the sight of a girl from southeast Asia testing the limits of the grey world’s physics engine.

“…be careful what you wish for.”

    Prushka

    "Awawawawawawa-!"

The world has just become a lot smaller. Everything is closing in, I'm being swung around like a giant doll, and for a moment it feels like I might die. But dying like this wouldn't be so bad.

    "Ahahahaha..."

I return Ubon's hug with what little strength I have. She's lean enough that my arms almost reach around her waist. And just like that, for a moment, everything's fine again. It's warm. There aren't any bad things here.

    "Uwaaah..."

Her tight hug squeezes everything out of me. As if I'm one of those noisy rubber chickens. My chests hurts and my eyes are stinging. I have to mumble words into her stomach, quietly, with the last of my breath.

    "...is... is everything okay now?"

"Mm... yeah. Yeah! I think it did."

With a gentle smile, Ubon finally eased on her squeeze and set Prushka down on the ground, so she could stand on her own too feet. Still, the girl kept her hands on her friend's shoulders, making sure the warmth they had shared would linger.

"How about you? Are you alright now, Prushie?" Ubon asked, slight worry in her eyes. "Are you... are you starting to feel better now?"

    A delicate question.

Meanwhile Alpa, who had been watching this all unfold with a look of amazement and wonder on her face, looked at John.

"I-I see! Gosh, that certainly seems dangerous..." The girl replied. "I-I'll be sure to remember! Though... are you speaking from experience?"

Curious eyes were now looking at the boy.

Meanwhile Ubon, upon hearing this, looked at John with a mischievous grin on her face.

"I dunno, I think Johnnie would need a good squeeze too," she teased. "For realsies!"

    John Dove

Alpa’s completely honest and completely natural question catches John off-guard. His mind struggles to make up an answer for a few moments, before realizing that, in fact, he does not need to make up anything at all.

“No,” he says decisively, to the Himalayan girl and to himself. “Even if the entire world believed I should, my soul cannot regret anything.”

What are you talking about, John Dove? About Her, or about coming to Pinefall, and this very moment? Regardless of the answer, what is the meaning of that half-hearted smile on your face?

Right after that, Ubon makes a very Ubon suggestion. Inevitably, his thoughts drift towards the previous night, and one Lucille Faraday. It is not a lie that he does not remember another instance of receiving a hug used solely as a hug—that is, as a tool for emotional comfort and succor. Other hugs he has given and received were…

“Allow me to apologize beforehand,” he says as calmly as ever. “I do not have any experience in hugging outside of greetings and sexual intercourse.”

A man who always knows the right thing to say: John Dove!

    Prushka

    "I'm..."

The hands on my shoulders are warm, and the smile looking down at me is gentle.

Her face blurs. I reach up and wipe my eyes with a sleeve. With a sniff, my lungs finally draw in a shaky breath, followed by another.

Is Ubon okay now? If she's okay, if that smile is real, if that warmth is real, if everything that happened here was real, then...

    "Yeah. A bit better."

I migiht be able to forgive myself now.

"Thanks, Ubon... you're... really warm, y'know."

For an Esper like me... that warmth of yours is reality. So I'll hold onto it. That's a promise.

But, even for a human... like, say, that moody boy over there...

"...he does look like he could use a hug, doesn't he - bwah!?"

I almost choke on nothing at all.

D-d-did he just say what I think he said!?

    "L-language! You can't just - gah!"

This! Is! Why! John! Dove! Is! Awful!

For a moment, Ubon could only stare owlishly at the boy who had let out such an improper thing from his mouth. A silence that was almost deafening, punctuated by the fact that Alpa was now staring at John all bug-eyed, looking like she was too shocked to even retort.

    But then.

Just like that, a snort came out of Ubon's mouth.

Followed by a giggle... giggling that just wouldn't stop.

Wiping tears of laughter from her eyes, Ubon let go of Prushka and walked over to John, grinning from ear to ear. As she got close enough, the girl put both hands on his shoulders and patted them, mischievous glint clear in her eyes.

"Mm, sorry Johnnie! All you get is a perfectly normal, cutesy hug from a cute girl!" She exclaimed, almost like telling a child they weren't getting the Christmas present they had hoped. "None of that overly formal hugging, n-nor any of the lewd hugging either!"

And with that, grinning again, Ubon pulled John closer into a hug. While it was not the same sort of squeezing extravaganza like it had been with Prushka, it was still tight and strong, and rather warm. Ubon even swayed from side to side, though not able to glomp the boy in similar way thanks to his larger size.

    "Mwahahaha~! Gotcha now~!" Ubon giggled with a mock-villainous voice.

Meanwhile Alpa, having recovered a bit, turned to look at Prushka.

"H-he really gives off a different view when viewed from afar, d-doesn't he?" She asked, pointing at John.

    Prushka

    "..."

    This guy.

    This guy...

I take a deep breath. One that goes all the way down to my lungs. Then I hold it, and...

    "Hah..."

Release it with a sigh. Along with a few bad dreams that had outstayed their welcome.

"Alpa. John Dove might seem like that, but the truth is..."

I scoot closer to the fluffy girl, then lean over. Just a bit. Not too close to set off her phobia, but close enough that if she's paying attention, she might feel the warmth of my breath.

I can't help but giggle a bit at the sight of him getting the Ubon treatment.

"...he's the kindest, sweetest jerk you'll ever meet."

    John Dove

“My cousin once told me to be careful with girls that call themselves ‘cute’,” idly comments the boy now wrapped in Ubon. He did not return Lucille Faraday’s hug because he was rather out of it, and came completely out of left field. Not having much of a sense of personal distance, it is not as if he is particularly reluctant to receive them.

As careful as ever, he slowly closes his arms around Ubon’s narrow waist, making sure not to touch anywhere inappropriate.

    It is warm.

    Ubon is warm.

A sigh escapes his lips for whatever reason.

His body is strained by her squeezing, and a little tense, but he tries to sway along with her, let the girl do as she pleases. He did not need this hug, and still finds no purpose in it—objectively speaking, it is a waste of his time.

However, he accepts it. Not because he accepts everything at face value, but because the other person, Ubon Sĕeklêun, wants this.

“…is this real?” he murmurs to nobody. Even at this point, it comes out as a question, not a statement of fact…

    “…I see…”

…even if a part of himself already knows better.

“Ubon…regardless of what happened in the past, regardless of what happens from now on…” he continues in a soft voice, perhaps not really talking to Ubon at all. “…this, is not a lie.”

He holds her just a little tighter. Just a little closer.

    “Please be safe, Ubon.”

His eyes look for the other two girls, mumbling to each other about gods-know-what.

“Please be safe, both of you.”

He chose life all the way back on Sunday. That is the decision powering this actions—the obvious fact that life is better than death. It must be.

John Dove is still not ready to even consider the fact that these girls—these particular, specific three lives—may have a worth to him.

And that is precisely why he must chase after moonlight, one more time.

    One last time.

Though thinking that a single Der Nagel would do me in, and that I'd need a rescue... I suppose that outs you as an amateur as well. Or at the very least naive."
“Well a normal person wouldn’t be able to have military hardware in the first place. As for why I kept my cool, you could say a government wanted specialists that could handle other humans involved with the Turnside. After all it isn’t too difficult to train people to handle and plan around the general characteristics of certain factions.”

Looks like I’ve defused the situation for the most part. His spear was held relatedly instead of firmly at me. It’s still not much because I know we can both attack from a relaxed position with ease, but we’ve got to start somewhere. Also I wasn’t lying when I said that it wasn’t too hard to train people to handle a certain aspect of enemies… Technically it was possible to train normal human beings to handle Turnside threats like Church agents, androids, and mages. However, at the same point in time, they need to constantly be given equipment and be exceptionally trained to not break. Needless to say, there’s barely any around, but the ones that are around are absolutely horrifying.

“Sure… Next time, I’ll make sure to ask if someone is having a good, honorable duel or if it’s a normal Turnside deathmatch before intervening. Definitely not defeating the purpose of me secretly supporting someone…” I sigh before continuing. “Well at the very least, I’ll try not to intervene in your fights or do you have some stipulations on when it isn’t a good, honorable duel.”

That juggernaut is a right pain in the ass, I tell you lass. I'd take the assassin prowling this area any day. At least he has some rules. If you come to his territory, he'll attack you - simple as that. That's why he had beef with me in the first place. And why he knows these woods like the back of his hand."
Caleb Montjoy was being followed by a “Knightmare.” Could that have been the thing that attacked Anna Vandameel outside of the bar on Friday evening? It would explain why something was in town that day. Also judging by the name containing knight and sounding like nightmare, it could be related to what he meant last week when he asked if I would drink with any “knights”

“Something is following him… I’ll see if it can be taken care of. Got any information on it other than it follows him.” I took note of anything if anything Lobo the King of Currumpaw said before moving onto Crimson. “So Crimson has some orders to defend his territory for some reason… Considering his skill, it must be something important if he’s defending.”

So yeah, if you're planning on being a killjoy, meeting up with another member of their fabulous organization isn't a bad idea. That being said, don't take me for a fool, lass. I'm not agreeing on anything before I know who I'm dealing with here. Since you're the one who brought it up to save your sorry hide, the ball's in your court. Start talking. I do love to meet new women, and hear of their hobbies and dreams."
For the first time for this conversation, my face finally moved from neutral to a slightly more teasing one. While I’m not fully relaxed, I think we’re at the point where I can switch off business mode a little bit and let off a light smile.

“Oh so you were playing around a little bit? I was hoping you showed off everything during your fight. As for the church members I know... Well one of them is a proper lady. Well mannered, affluent, and capable of playing music nicely. She would easily be the poster girl for honor students or even church going. Until you’re on the opposite side of her in combat, then you’re probably going to die. Got to see her kill a Japanese mystic and familiar practically by herself.”

Well I helped but I would say I didn’t do anything major. If you told me I had to kill Lucille, I would absolutely ensure that I wouldn’t fight her head-on. Probably ambush her and constantly keep disengaging to engage her with asymmetric warfare tactics. Granted trying to pull that off would be difficult especially since...

“The one I think you should meet is her maid. Outwardly, she’s a kind, doting person who will cook extraordinary meals for people and make plans to cheer everyone up. Her sandwiches are humongous… Like it’s almost too much for me and I would like to say I have a big appetite. So if you’re a big eater, she’s one of the best people to ask for food from. Also she’ll kill you if you think about hurting her master and the ambush she’ll do will make me look nice in comparison.”

So my slight smile disappeared before continuing.

"So regardless of how you want to meet them. You'll come out on top. Peacefully, they might help you find Crimson again. You get to eat a giant sandwich and we all go on our merry way. If things break down... Well you get another good fight and would it be one hell of a fight with even just one of them. However, I can at least guarantee you that you'll be safe for the initial meeting or I'll be the middle man for your information if you feel its too unsafe."

For some reason... a slightly sour expression passed by Lobo's face as he listened to Vier's explanation.

"Figures..." he muttered for unknown reason, but soon enough that cocky smirk was back on his face.

Maybe it was just something he was thinking about.

"Fine. I'll meet these little lady-friends of yours, lass. Been a while since I've been able to talk shop with others from this side of the world, anyways. Though, try to pick a place that's secluded. I'd hate to cause a scene," he said with a chuckle. "I'll let my master know that this little problem with Red is... under investigation. Should be enough to get him from breathing down my neck for a while."

The way he referred to this "master" made it quite clear that Lobo didn't much care for the man - or think much of him either. Perhaps for someone like him to work under another person was an affront? Well, perhaps not. As much as he was a beast, he still stylized himself as a knight. In other words, he should have been beholden to some sort of code of chivalry. But if a man with such a code was annoyed by their liege, that could only mean one thing...

--- That liege was no honorable king.

Maybe he was less of a knight, and more of a dog on a leash. Ironic, considering the name he had chosen for himself.

"As for the Knightmare, you'll know it when you see it. A hulking brute, clad from head to toe in an ancient armor... yet, even though I say that, it's not like there's anything living there inside. It's a machine, or an automaton, or something of that ilk. Just a mindless concept of destruction that rampages if you get in it's way. So keep that in mind if you go hunting for it. Concepts defeat concepts after all. Trying to destroy that thing physically, for example with that peashooter of yours, is just asking to get yourself skewered by its greatsword," Lobo continued with a more serious tone, painting mental pictures of a rather horrifying opponent. "In addition, I think rain draws it out. Or water in general. So watch out in places like that, especially if wonderboy over there is around - you might get yourself a nasty visitor."

Having said that, Lobo turned around to leave. His armored heels dug into the forest floor, and for a moment it looked like he was about to clear a considerable distance with a simple jump, disappearing into the thicket... but at the last moment, he stopped. Instead, his upper body and arm whirled around, and he threw the last card he had been holding straight towards Vier.

Not as an attack, however, as Vier's reflexes automatically helped her catch the thing. If it had been an attack, her instincts would have warned her.

But this card she had been given... it looked old. Very old. On it, there was a picture of a young woman, dressed in old clothing. She was holding a black bird in one hand, and a large club in another. A large heart, or perhaps spade-shaped shield of gold hung from her waist, with a frowning face staring out of the card.

Was this a Tarot card? As said, it looked practically antique.

"Rip that card in half to give me a call. It alerts me to you and your current location. I should come along shortly thereafter," Lobo explained the purpose of the card. "Use it when you're ready to beging that little pow-wow you promised..."

A sharp grin appeared on his face.

"--- Or if you're up the shit creek without a paddle, and with no one else to call. Who knows? I might deem to help you out."

And with that, the green knight slung his spear into his back, and started towards the depths of the forest, soon disappearing from sight.

Leaving Vier alone to contemplate what had just happened...

[SCENE END /// Move to NEXT Phase!]

    New Ability Witnessed!
    Lobo - King of Currumpaw
    STR: B END: D↓ AGI: A WIL: E INT: ? EGO: ?

    Statistics:
    HP: ?/57
    ACC: 5
    DOD: 5
    Movement: 30m

    Perks:

    [Evolution] x?
It might be because you've trained harder than most, or it might be because you were simply born that way, but your body is a step above that of others. Physical prowess or mental greatness, whatever it is, you have just a little bit more. When you take this Perk, increase one of your attributes by 1 Rank. You can take this Perk up to three times.

    [Flourish & Parry]
Sometimes it is not enough to be able to dodge. Sometimes you also need to be able to parry attacks, deflect them aside with your own weapon or limbs. Exchanging attacks like that leaves much less room for actually punishing the opponent, but at least you are keeping yourself safer. When you take this Perk, you can sacrifice one or more of your attacks on the Turn after your enemy has attacked you. For each attack you sacrifice, the enemy's attack has +25% greater chance of missing. If the enemy makes multiple attacks, you can divide the parry chance (in segments of 10%) to each of them. However, you cannot parry attacks of an enemy who has STR two Ranks higher than yours.

    [Relic Bearer]
You have been granted access to Arc-Relics of certain power level to use as you see fit. They are ancestral items of myth and legend capable leveling battlefields and performing miracles, so at the right hands they can change the flow of battle. When you take this Perk, decide what is the maximum Rank of Arc-Relics you want to take. The cost above correlates with the Ranks, with 10 being for E-Ranks, 15 being for D-Ranks and so forth. If you already have a Perk that grants you access to certain Ranks of Arc-Relics but also want to take higher Rank ones, you only need to pay the difference between the Rank you have and the Rank you want.

    [Unnatural Athlete]
When it comes to propelling yourself forward with your sheer physical strength, there aren't many who can match you. You are just faster than just about anyone else whether running, climbing or swimming. When you take this Perk, double the distance you can travel by running, climbing and swimming.

    Attack Damage: 12
    Element: ?
    Relic Charges: ?
The second spear that Lobo has. More nimble and agile-looking than the argent, golden spear that he carries in his back. When struck to the ground, can apparently denote a large area where those with weak minds are put to a sleep-like stasis. Further information pending...

    Unknown Golden Spear
    Rank: ?
    Attack Damage: ?
    Element: ?
    Relic Charges: ?
The first spear that Lobo has. More rough and powerful-looking than the mercurial, silver spear he carries as his main weapon. Further information pending...

    Spells:

    Tarocco Siciliano: Faro Donna

    Rank: E
    Element: Azoth
A simple spell that loads the card in question with mana. The magical energy is inserted into a coil of Azoth that runs in the outer edges of the card, creating a loop that keeps the mana running for a good while (though it will fade within a week or two). When the card is ripped in half, the coil is broken and the magical energy escapes in an invisible burst that fades away. The creator of the card is capable of sensing this burst and fading of his magical energy, allowing them to know the rough location where the card was broken. This allows these cards to act as beacons of sorts.

Despite it's name, it is not cartomancy per se - just a forgery of such a spell that Lobo has created by himself. Indeed, in most cases cartomancy that happens using Tarot cards is done via the Major Arcana. In this case, the knaves of the old deck that Lobo copies and customizes for his spellcraft are assigned a thankless task as messengers, while the cards of the Major Arcana act as his real arsenal.

Satel? Another rather exotic name indeed -- you did not run into many Satels on this side of the world. Arabic? Eastern European? There were many possibilities, but for now there were more pressing matters, including the increasingly hostile nature of this conversation... though his hostility appeared to be targeted at Vivienne herself, namely how she used her abilities, and perhaps how this correlated with her way of dealing with the 'fragmented' soul she had.

Of course she knew that there was something deep inside. There were many bits and pieces that were spread about, shards that held a little bit of the memories that were 'emotions' -- but they were not whole, they were in fact, rather tainted and infected. It is why Vivienne had to occasionally 'flush' it all out and contain it into 'something'. In a sense the words of this boy were... no different from those of 'that' thing.

The thing that she never wanted to hear, because of course, it was nothing more than condensed agony. The agony of gasping for the incomplete, like a poor soul that cannot swim and is thrown into deep waters, drowning slowly as they try to reach for the surface. Rather than fresh air, it is the salty sting of the sea water that fills their lungs, and eventually it is all that they can agonizingly breathe in as they are pulled down to the abyss...

... and Vivienne Bianchi has no intention to let herself be dragged down in there.

"Well it is quite a pleasure to meet someone as... educated as you. But I am afraid that we shall excuse ourselves for now. Doctor Scholar Professor Satel. Indeed, while we would appreciate the idea of furthering the exchange of ideas and information, it would seem that some more pressing matters await. Your kindly advice has been taken to heart, though you would be surprised that your patient here is quite familiar with the results of the diagnosis you just gave her! But give her time, I would ask you. Is that not why she came to this school?"

The girl in blue curtsies the 'doctor' a farewell, not forgetting that etiquette is still important even in the face of adversity! Also she may just be playing the idiot, trying to seem harmless... a ploy that may be lost on someone who appears quite knowledgeable, but it is better to try than do nothing after all!

But... what now? Well of course, it is time to exit the stage... quickly.

She turns around in an instant, and her legs spring into action as Vivienne darts away in the direction of Alex Terrot!

Sakura does have a point. About many things. This conversation, as agonizing as it is, is good for everyone. Because there is someone much smarter than Lucille who can take all the information she has, and make reasonable sounding conclusions from it. Left to her own devices, she would get nowhere.

“To answer your first point… Prushka can manipulate emotions, whereas Vier does it with memories, I believe. As for Hisa, she apparently put Elise in a state where she was like a robot, receptive to commands… but it’s that same emptiness that allowed the demon to take control. With Vier it might be possible to temporarily make Elise forget any combat related tricks, but I wouldn’t know if she can actually do that. There wasn’t a lot of time to discuss who could do what.”

Now, to the second topic, of confronting Subaru Iburi. This Subaru is not beholden to the sins of the Subaru who once existed, yet Lucille can’t help but feel apprehensive all the same. All it took was one push for Subaru to be on the warpath, and how are they supposed to break this news?

Hello, we’d like to hire you for an exorcism that could save the lives of hundreds, if not hundreds of thousands?

The thought makes her cringe, but she supposes it might be the only reasonable way forward. She merely needs to overcome her own hesitance at involving others, her own hesitance stemming from things that didn’t happen yet did.

“Asking Subaru… I believe that’s a possibility. Before… certain things happened, she was kind enough. It’s just, I promised Elise we would meet tonight. So if we are to get Subaru and see if she can help, we either do it right now, or tomorrow…? Either way, I get your point. It may be the best lead we have as to helping Elise with her condition.”

Of course, not everything in life is sunshine and roses. Just because there is the possibility Subaru can help, doesn’t mean she will. How can you judge someone’s character when it’s almost like a different person in front of her?

“If she will help, that is.”

    "Running away?"

    The voice rumbles in dissatisfaction.

"How typical of you, Child of Bianchi..."

The footfalls continue, becoming booming echoes in the corridor that suddenly warps before Adelaide's, no, Vivienne's eyes. The door that she had been sprinting towards zooms out of reach, the corridor itself extending like a nightmare while her legs are glued to the floor. Everything twists and turns, becoming a smudged whirlwind of paint on the canvas when mixed in with water. The brushstrokes of reality become haphazard and chaotic, and for a moment, it seems like nothing makes sense anymore. Even though she dashes, even though she sprints towards her friend in order to escape safety, the girl finds that her single, first step seems to take impossibly long.

Yet at that same time, the loud footfalls of Satel, like those of a giant's on an empty, cold, stone floor approach without being deterred.

Only she is caught in this nightmare, and only she suffers the consequences.

But this can't be reality. This stretching corridor can't be reality. Indeed, reality cannot warp this way. Even in the case of the supernatural, there's always a cause, there's always a sense of causality. Nothing happens because of nothing. If something had truly assailed the corridor, she would have spotted some sort of hint about that, some sort of clue that would have pointed her to the direction of the truth.

    But now there was nothing.

It was as random and as horrible as a bad dream you can't wake up from.

    Just like...

"In the end, I guess I couldn't expect more from you," the deep, rumbling voice spoke into Vivienne's ear from behind her. "I already saw it first hand. Just like the one who shackles himself with the dream he doesn't want to wake from..."

For some reason, the face of Lobo - The King of Currumpaw, rose to Vivienne's mind.

"Or the one who kills himself in order to kill the one he despises above all others..."

And now, the cold stare of Hawthorn came to her mind.

"Like them, you're just the same."

Professor Satel was right behind her now, she knew that. Running away from the nightmare was always impossible after all. In the end they would always catch up to you, and you would wake up from your bed, drenched in cold sweat. But would she, this time? Would there be a bed to wake up from? Or a dream in the first place? What if this was all just a horrible reality masquerading itself as a bad dream?

She couldn't know. Just like she couldn't stop the cold words that Satel continued to speak.

"You're always running away into the comforting arms of the lies you've created," the boy spoke, there being nothing but his voice now. "Refusing to look at what you truly are by pretending to have lost it all."

Almost as if he could see within her, and---

    "Hmh? What is wrong, milady?"

Suddenly, Vivienne blinked her eyes open. The nightmare was gone. Instead she was standing there, at the doorway of the smoking room, fingers still grasping the handle of the handle. The door was open and she had her back to the corridor, almost like she had just returned from there. Meanwhile Alex had finished tidying up the pile from the floor back into the trashcan. The butler pocketed what looked to be the same receipt he had mentioned before, but also something else - a matchstick box perhaps? Had Alex found something else?

No, before that... had what Vivienne just experienced really happened? Glancing back to the corridor, there was nobody there. Like the boy with the rumbling, deep voice had been nothing but illusion, or a strange bout of madness...

"Looks like there was no need to stand guard, huh? I appreciate the thought, however," Alex said, walking over to Vivienne with a hint of a smile. "I think we have what we were looking for now, though. Or, a partial confirmation at least. Aside from the receipt, I'm pretty sure that this room is used by mostly smokers of cigars and pipes... along with few people who roll their own cigarettes. That would mean that the only one here we have seen smoking storebrought brand, or using normal-sized matchsticks unfit for pipes would be..."

She didn't have to say it.

The one person they had seen smoking today, and who had definitely been using a storebrought brand of Lucky Bastards... was Hawthorne.

Which would mean, most likely, he was their man from last night.

"Anyways... I think we should be going, no? The more time we spend here, the higher the possibility of annoying consequences," Alex asked, gesturing towards the door. "So, right now my suggestion would be to take the back door and exit without much of a fuss, and retreat to a... safe location, at the very least."

It was a good idea. Even if discounting the nightmare Vivienne had been just experiencing, they shouldn't use up too much of their time here. They had more or less found what they were looking for, so making a retreat now was a wise plan.

That being said... had it really been just a hallucination?

    Or was it actually---

"Hmh? Milady... what's that you're holding there?"

Alex's sudden question awoke Vivienne to the realization she was holding onto something. A page or a sheet of paper, with something written on it... lot of something. A page filled with text, written meticulously and with word after word talking about some unknown subject.

What even was this page, and why did she have it?

And the things written there, were they...

    ...

Maybe it was best to leave here first, and then take a look at the only thing Vivienne had left to remember her hallucination by.

Acquired Report of the Unknown #2!
    Number 2

I know not if I started writing these to give myself a piece of mind, or just to put my thoughts on paper and in order. However, ever since I started writing these reports to myself, I have managed to get back my bearings a little bit more. This time, I managed to avoid a total nervous breakdown and a mental collapse, which turned out to be my undoing last time.

Not that it was of any help to me. The results were predictable, as before. Even if the events and roles change, the outcome is still immutable, from the looks of it.

    How maddening. How absolutely maddening.

For now, I've hid myself among the inhabitants of this place, using a name I haven't in a long time. I suppose my only option is to carefully observe the "neutral" state of things, what happens with no interactions. Map out everything that's possible, the whole town and all of it's 3000 citizen if I have to. Make a whole and complete mental map of things. My curse works separately from the people here, so while they retain no memories, I do - and I can't even begin to guess what it is that has caused this situation. Something like this should be beyond even the Seven, and of those, only the Most Wicked Man in the World would be brazen enough to try something like this. I think I can rule out the possibility of them being involved.

    But what then...?

Does it have something to do with my own plight? No, that cannot be. My fate is my onus. Unfair as it is, this is something different. I'm just a castaway, after all.

I just hope I won't go mad in the currents of this infinity loop. If this goes on for too long, well...

... Who knows what'll happen to me, in this solitude.

"Emotions, memories and... mind control, perhaps? That's... better than I hoped, at least. It might be possible to unite their powers to strip the demon of its weapons, so to speak. Nullify both the mental authority it has, and the violent impulses it can create. But yes, we would have to be careful. If done wrong, it might give the thing free access to Elise's body, and that would be... the worst case scenario. Adding physical restriction to that in form of Hwan's telekinesis sounds wise," Sakura spoke, mulling over the information Lucille had given her. "I certainly see an inkling of a plan there, though we would have to talk with the people themselves. Of course..."

A momentary, warm smile passed by Sakura's face.

"... From what I've been able to gleam, they're all good people underneath it all. I have hope that if we explain Elise's plight to them, they would be willing to help," she added. "After all, this is not a problem that affects just us. And we have no power to help her, so the only thing we can do is rely on those more well-versed in these things than us."

Having said that, Sakura turned towards the door and the hallways that laid in wait beyond that. There, somewhere, were the people they needed to talk to. Asking for a favour like this wouldn't be easy, but the demon was a threat that nobody could ignore. If the two of them could make clear just what sort of ramifications there were regarding this being... maybe, hopefully, they could all work together to do something about it.

But that left still one question...

    ... That of Subaru Iburi.

And whether or not she would be willing to help.

"Well... Milady, if you find it hard to speak to Subaru about it, I can try to talk to her too. Meanwhile you can go ahead and meet with Elise, and I - hopefully with Subaru - will meet you a bit later," Sakura suggested, looking at her charge with worry. "Or, if you want, we can go talk to her first - together. Then, whatever she answers, we can go meet with Elise."

Guess those really were the two choices left.

"How should we go about this? There's not much time left in the evening."

“Well, he can’t have been here too much...if it was him who was here in the first place.”

Answering Pyry’s question, I looked through the room once more, even more thoroughly this time - but somehow, it felt even emptier than Angelica’s room.

“But then, if someone is only intending to stay for a short while, it’s not like they need to make the place look like their home?”

Glancing over at Rachel, my head tilts slightly as I open my mouth for another question.

“Could it be that the cleaning service was already here?”

Alternatively, he just cleaned up after himself - but that isn’t exactly something that men usually do. Especially not high school boys, if I can take Pyry as an example.

It’s also a possibility that he never even touched the bed or anything in the bathroom, but...that just raises a bunch of other questions.

Stepping over to the chair, I raise the jacket on it slightly, only for the weight and the clinking sounds coming from its pocket to immediately give away its contents. Of course, a few coins and guitar picks wasn’t exactly much of a tell.

With a small sigh, I drop the jacket back on the chair, before my eyes turn towards Mercedes.

“A radio transceiver? Is there something wrong with it?”

By the looks of the device, it wasn’t exactly some amateur gadget, and an antenna like that would have allowed relatively long transmission range. Even so...it wasn’t so unbelievable even for someone like Inacio to have something like this.

Mercedes frowned at the sight of the strange radio transmitter, but didn't pick it up from the table. Instead the actress simply glared at the thing while it sat there, like it had done something to offend her. Judging by the way her brows were furrowed, there had to be something that bothered her about it... but it was another thing if she would come up with a straight-forward answer. Mercedes was, after all, much like a cat herself - she only did thing she wanted to.

"Like... I dunno. There's just something... off about it or whatevah. I don't think it's any normal walkie-talkie," she finally answered, folding her arms and glancing at Hisa. "You noticed it too, right? Like, that antenna. That thing's meant for long-distance calls. Something like that could probably pick up signals from, like, the next state over or something. It's a bit weird our Mr. Musician would have something like this... though guess he could be a radio amateur of some sort."

The starlet cocked an eyebrow, implying she very much doubted that was the case.

"What do you think?" she asked from Hisa.

Meanwhile, Pyry and Gradient were looking around the room in confusion. The emptiness of it, and how clean it was certainly made it seem like it hadn't been used. The only thing of note that Pyry could pick up was the fact that there were some shoeprints in the soft carpet - meaning Inacio had at least been walking around the room. Most likely pacing by the window, from the looks of it. Gradient, on the other hand, tried to find anything of interest in the bathroom... but judging by the girl's disappointed expression, she came back empty-handed.

Rachel, on the other hand, rubbed her chin in thought.

"Cleaning service? I guess... though even then, you usually see signs of someone living in the hotel room. It's only after the guest has checked out that we do a full sweep of the room. Not to mention, well... our cleaning staff is kinda limited these days," the redhead answered somewhat awkwardly. "But it's definitely true that your classmate hasn't been here more than once or twice, probably..."

Pyry, who had been listening in on the talks, turned his attention back to Hisa.

"Well, if he hasn't been spending nights here... could he be renting it for some other purpose? Like, just in case, or for a getaway to write some songs of his own," he suggested. "Or to, I dunno... do something he can't at the school?"

Mercedes's eyes narrowed as she clearly got an idea.

"--- Maybe he's using it as a meeting ground with someone who can't come to the school."

Thus the actress presented one possible solution.

    “Hmmh…”

With brows furrowed, I crouch down next to Pyry to give a better look to said footprints.

“A meeting place sounds likely,” I speak up while running my fingers through the prints on the carpet, “Since I can distinguish two pairs of shoes at least, and one of them seems to have a raised heel. So...probably a woman.”

Tearing my eyes away from the carpet, I stand back up.

“But why exactly would Inacio rush out here in the middle of the night to meet with a woman?”

My mind could only jump to one conclusion, but it was something that I would much rather not even think about. No, it was kind of unlikely that it was just that in the first place.

I didn’t know Inacio well enough to even have a guess at who he could be meeting with...Other than Carrie, perhaps, but far as I remember, he wasn’t even aware of her identity this time around last week. And even if he did, why would they meet in a hotel room?

“At any rate, it’s clear that he was back to classes by the morning…” trying to put the details together, I glance at Amber again, “He is a guy with medium-short green hair. Are you sure you haven’t seen him? Or for that matter, know who was welcoming the guests at night?”

Even without cameras, someone must have seen the people who have walked into the hotel, even if not those who walked out.

“Still, why would he just leave his stuff behind? Even if he’ll come back, it’s not like a jacket is exactly that hard to carry…” I tap my chin with a finger as my attention turns towards the jacket and the radio, “And the fact that the radio is here, it could mean that he uses it for something that he wants to keep secret from the people at school…”

    My eyes lock onto Mercedes as I continue;

“I think that’s actually more weird than the fact that he has it. I mean, it’s not like anyone would mind if he had a radio or used it to talk to a friend or family, right?”

Unfortunately, it was doubtful that there was a way to listen back on the transmissions...and not a lot was to be found without properly checking out the device, anyways.

    “Should we turn it on?”

"Meeting with a woman? Man, that guy..." Pyry started, about to say something... before wiping the grin that was forming on his face and shaking his head. "N-nah, that can't be it. He's a stand-up guy from what I can gather. I doubt it'd be that what was going on here. Unless he's got some old flame at Road's End, but that's very unlikely..."

The mystery had certainly deepened. Thanks to Hisa's investigative skills, some light had been shed on the room's purpose... but that simply raised even more questions. Who was the woman that Inacio had met here? And why in the middle of the night? No matter how one looked at it, it didn't seem to be on the up-and-up. In other words, the classmate that had seemed fairly normal clearly had something going on to himself, but what it was...

... Well, wasn't that the million dollar question?

"Yeah, I don't remember seeing anyone like that. Would remember a teenager hanging out here, after all," Rachel answered Hisa's question. "I can check around the staff, see whose been on night shifts those days. It shouldn't be hard to find out if they've seen him around, though it might take till tomorrow. If something does come up, I'll send a message to you guys - or come see you myself at Pinefall. God knows I haven't been there in ages..."

Almost like she was reminiscing a bit, Rachel smiled at Gradient who was intently listening on the conversation going on.

"But it does seem strange. A radio transmitter here, and using it as a meeting place..." Rachel continued, glancing at the aforementioned piece of equipment. "... Sounds likely that he doesn't want people at your school to figure out what he's up to. Or maybe someone. Could be something a simple as being paranoid about your teachers, no?"

The look on Mercedes's face told she didn't buy that for one second.

"Yeah. Hisa here is right," the actress replied as she walked over to the radio transmitter. "Like, whatevah the Musician Boy is up to with this, he doesn't want others to hear - to the point of arranging a whole other place to keep it. If that's not, like, suspicious to the max I dunno what is."

With that, the starlet took hold of the strange walkie-talkie and turned to face others with a bit of an evil grin on her face.

"And she's right about the other thing too. Let's, like, turn it on and see what's up," Mercedes continued, her thumb hovering over the power button. "Though... don't say anything. Keep it way down low. We don't want to, like, alarm whoever's on the other side. Just listen if we hear something, and then cut the power again."

Her eyes scanned those gathered in the room.

    "You ready?"

Nervous and not-so-nervous nods were made all-around.

And with that, the starlet pushed down the power button with definite curious glee.

"Well then, let's see what is up with you...!"

Following her words, the distinct sound of radio static blared from the speaker of the walkie talkie.

It continued for approximately three seconds.

And just as it started to feel they had run into a dud...

--- A new sound filled the room.

“You’ve probably spoken to her more than I have this time around,” Lucille says, unsure of whether this decision is the correct one. Trusting her judgment is more difficult done than said. “I think it’s better if you speak to her, and I will deal with Elise.”

She can’t quite say if she is apprehensive to talk to this Subaru Iburi, but she has no idea how to break the news in a manner that would be any way coercive. No, what is probably more difficult is that she cannot separate her memories of the past with the current present. This Subaru is not the one that killed Vier or herself, yet by association, she will always remember. Can she forgive? Perhaps, perhaps.

Unfortunately, she is human, and being human is a state where emotion can cloud even the most rational of judgment.

“I pray that everything goes well,” she mutters under her breath.

As Mercedes turned the radio on, its screen lit up, and the air was filled with with the usual static noise. The string of numbers on the screen didn’t seem to make too much sense - they were clearly not the frequency, nor anything that I could really put anywhere on first glance, but I took a mental note of it at least.

Or tried to do so, rather - because moments later, the static noise was replaced by something else. A different kind of noise, one that was consciously created.

Music is perhaps what it was meant to be, in an alternate reality.

Every moment, the cacophony grew more and more weird, and somehow, it just felt so ominous and sinister…

Before I knew it, my finger was hovering over the button, and without hesitation, pressed down on it, switching the device off and putting an end to the chaotic tune.

And then moments later, I pressed the button again.

A fight between my curiosity and the goosebumps all over my body.

The song continued. An incomprehensible mix of what seemed to be short clips, repeating over and over again, intertwining into something so horrid.

It went on and on, and once it seemed to be over, it just repeated again. But I wasn’t too interested in listening to it a lot longer.

“What the fuck was that?” I asked in bewilderment as I pressed the button once more, “Number Nine? Random backwards talk? Is this some brainwashing noise?”

"It will, milady. I'm sure of it," she said, putting her hand on Lucille's shoulder. "This time, you're more prepared - and this time, you're not alone. Whatever happens, we'll face it together. And not just you and me. Others will be there as well. Whatever happened last week, whatever caused those tragedies you talked about... they will not repeat. Not as long as I'm around. I'll make sure of it."

With that, the warm hand moved away, and Sakura walked over to the door. She opened it, peering quietly into the corridor to see if the coast was clear. As it was, she motioned her charge to follow. They both had their missions for now, and would meet again later tonight. And judging by how Sakura's usual, cheerful image now hid within it the cold, sharp steel she had honed over all these years, it seemed that the head maid of the Faraday family had switched gears to her work mode. This was no longer just Sakura Tsukioka, the friendly girl next door.

This was the Blade of the Lord, the kunoichi whose ancestors were the hidden Christians of old.

And she was determined to see this mission through.

"... This time, I won't fail you, milady. Even if that was a different me, it was unacceptable," Sakura said much quieter as she headed out. "Second time will not come. My blade, and my life, are yours."

    --- Determined like a weapon.

"And this time, so they shall remain."

In the growing bewilderment, it was surprisingly Pyry who answered the question.

"... That's Revolution 9. A Beatles song from 1968, if I remember right," the boy said with a frown, walking over to inspect the strange walkie-talkie himself. "It was supposedly some sorta avant-garde way of trying to paint a picture of a revolution using only sound. I... honestly, I dunno much about it. I just remember it because it's called the song where 'For 8 minutes, the Beatles wasn't the Beatles'. Who knows what it's about, really. I guess it would make sense for a musician like Inacio to know it but..."

The boy folded his arms and shook his head.

    "That was just creepy..."

Mercedes, who had been least creeped out by the song, started pacing around the room until she ended up next to the window. She pulled aside the curtains a little bit, glaring into the forest that could be viewed outside. It's dark corners were many, and now that the sun was low and the night was almost here, its shadows had grown even larger - even harsher. They would need to leave soon if they wanted to make the curfew.

"There are few things the song is, like, said to be about. Or few interpretations," the starlet said, taking over the explanation. "Sensory assault on the citadel of intellect. Flow of mind, like channel-hopping. Confirmation that Paul McCartney had died or whatevah. Some even say it's, like, a prediction of Helter Skelter... or that it's a parallel to Chapter 9 of Book of Revelation."

The starlet turned to look over her shoulder at the rest of the group.

"Who knows? And who knows why our Maestro likes to listen to it on his walkie-talkie. Could be, like, a coded message too. One of those weird number stations or whatevah," Mercedes concluded. "But I don't think we'll get far if we just stand around here, listening to it. Should speak to someone who, like, knows more about this stuff."

    The actress shrugged.

"What I do know is that we should probaby start heading back. Otherwise we'll all be sitting in detention tomorrow."

She shot a devilish grin at the rest of the group.

    “Book of Revelation…”

Rubbing my chin, my unfocused gaze rests on the radio on the table.

I couldn’t exactly remember it word to word - it was hardly the sort of literature one would read too often or bother to memorize. Yet...there was something about a falling star, a celestial body in the form of a person, a smoke blocking out any light, and something about killing part of mankind…

A celestial body...in the form of a person.

That cloaked person, whose thoughts were that of a planet’s sounds.

    The fog…

In the end, we died too, for seemingly no reason.

    “Yeah, no idea.”

In the end, it was just conveniently aligning the pieces that appear to fit, yet they likely have nothing to do with each other.

Music especially was something that we could very easily attach our own various deductions and interpretations to.

“Still, thanks for all the help, Rachel. Couldn’t have gotten anywhere without you.”

Getting my mind back into shape, I grab my stuff, and gesture towards the door.

    “Should we go then?”

A momentary warm smile passed by Rachel's face - almost like the girl had wanted to give Hisa an encouraging, familiar pat on the shoulder... though she ultimately decided not to. Instead, she ruffled Gradient's hair, eliciting a delighted giggle from the strange girl. A sound that was happy enough to make even Pyry crack a grin. Mercedes, on the other hand, simply rolled her eyes at the display of affection and walked out of the room now that their business was concluded.

"Think nothing of it, Hisa. Considering you guys found this nincompoop and brought her here to see me, I'd say we're square," Rachel answered with a nod. "Plus... well, it's been a while since anyone's brought up mysteries or investigations in this town. Feels a bit like the old gang's back together... even if it's you new guys filling old shoes. I don't mind that at all - if anything, more people should ask questions in this town, I say."

Having spoken that, Rachel let everyone else leave Inacio's room before making sure that everything appeared like it had been - almost like nothing had been touched. There was little they could do with the carpet other than try to cover their own tracks a bit and hope Inacio wouldn't pay it too much thought, of course. However, considering it had taken Pyry's tracking skills and Hisa's investigative eye to notice the strangeness of the footprints, they were most likely safe regarding that.

Outside, in the corridor (and after locking the door again), Rachel turned back to face the group.

"As said, I'll check with the guys in the nightshift if anyone's seen your classmate. I'll let you know when something crops up. And if you got anything else you want to ask about, you'll know where to find me," the redhead continued. "I'm always up for a little mystery solving to spice up my days."

Then, a bit of warmth crept into her eyes as the older girl looked at Hisa - almost like she was also seeing something else. Perhaps a memory of someone else, or perhaps an echo of a similar drive to uncover the truth, who knows?

"... And don't be strangers. You're always welcome to visit, you hear? Even if it's got nothing to do with the mysteries," Rachel added. "Not all of us townspeople are ornery about you guys being here."

Or maybe it was just nostalgia of seeing people much like herself, going through the same things she and her friends had gone through long time ago.

After that, the group exchanged goodbyes with Rachel, and headed out to the parking lot where Pyry's car was waiting.

After all, while the evening was almost over, the day certainly wasn't... and the trip to the library, while illuminating, had left them with an equal share of questions...

    [BGM]

    6 AM.

    Time to get up.

This time it was not just music that woke up you up. With bleary eyes that you looked the morning-light veiled world with, you could see the grey-scale tones outside, along with the pounding sound of rain that was like thousand tiny marching feet hitting against your window. The sky had promised rain last night, and finally, it had arrived. Luckily you had a good enough dormitory and the school building was far from leaking... but at the same, thoughts of heading out were made all the more bothersome by this weather-related revelation. Just the mere thought of being outside in this pouring rain was an annoying one, and the fact that you'd have to head out there to reach the main building was a big enough obstacle in its own way. Perhaps the rain would let up by the evening. Perhaps. Hopefully. Because if it didn't... most of the students would be stuck out here in the dormitories.

This morning the choice of the song that woke you all up was a classic... but perhaps a bit too much on the nose. Whoever was responsible for choosing the songs that blared out of the dormitory's PA system clearly had been saving this song for the first rainy day and was now taking everything out of the fact that they could play it. The slightly up-beat guitar and the tingling piano on the background, it was a combination that tried to give you energy despite the rather somber weather outside.

But, well... simple bad weather didn't have to hold you down, in the end. After all, in the end, you alone decided what you would do.

Though for some... this morning was a bit different.

For example, Prushka woke up to the sound of someone rummaging around in her bathroom.

For example, Hisa Momoi could hear the sound of someone else quietly snoring under her desk, the place which this new guest had chosen as their spot to sleep.

For example, Colt Davin got almost hit by a pillow as the person sleeping in his bed kept kicking the sheets in her dreams.

For example, Liana Skye could feel last night's exertion making her muscles groan in protest as she started lifting herself up from the bed.

For example, Alexstrasza Lockhart didn't wake up at the dormitory at all. She woke up in the guest room of End's Mercy hospital, her eyes snapping open to the sound of someone knocking on the door and informing that the visiting hours would start soon, and she would be able to see Cesarina in just a moment.

The blonde girl also noticed, to her growing alarm as she got out of bed, that her shadow was missing.

--- Nothing good could come out of that.

Still, yet another repeated morning of Road's End, and Pinefall High School for Troubled Youth... in more ways than one.

Dull reality blows away dreamless sleep.

The rain, pounding against both the roof and my eardrums in a familiar pattern, wakes me as it did before. And, as before, when I try to squeeze my bleary eyes shut and return to sleep again, the music comes on to strike down the idea. No, this won't be a day when you can sleep in, Prushka. It's going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

Especially since there's an intruder in here again, messing around in the bathroom. Who in their right mind would-? And so loud, too! If you're going to sneak in, at least do it properly!

    "Ugh..."

There's no going back to sleep now.

With a frustrated groan I push aside the blankets, slip my feet into the puffy slippers below, and stumble out of bed.

Step, step. Reaching the door to the bathroom, I turn and pull it open without trepidation.

Doesn't matter who you are, murderer or monster or whatever; I need to brush my teeth.

---The sound of the alarm comes with a weak noise of protest, courtesy of the young woman that was practically sprawled -in a mess- across the surface of her bed, pajamas forgotten in what had almost certainly been a complete collapse after hours of slave labor, yes...

The normal energetic Liana Skye is not the one that greets the morning today.

Rain pounds the roof, a grim reminder of her first opponent for the day, the weather itself taunting her in a rhythmic pattern, shattering the beauty of unconsciousness with it's cruel, cruel reality, reality of wet clothes and hair, of having to take extra care of her skateboard today, and really, of just having to deal with the weather being the weather when she really didn't have the time to just lounge around in the dorms, yes...

    Damn you... Aunt Dorothy...

...Memories of the past couple of hours surge forth, of the rather mundane efforts that had taken nevertheless taken most of her energy away, but well...

    There's a limit to being a hoarder...!

...Not like she had much of a choice.

    She had to get up.

Things to do, places to be, promises to keep, people to check on, FBI Agents to charm, the World to save...

    Normal Liana Skye things.

It had been her own idea anyway, so she couldn't complain about it now-!

    "Okay... Okay... I'm up, World..."

No kata today either, I'm really slacking...

    So she gets up.

The routine is gone through quickly, although her body really isn't feeling it; bit of a pain, she'd have to find some time to rest at some point, but everything was just piling up on top of her now...

    No, no...

    It's fine.

Hair is done, clothes are changed, bracelet is on, skateboard is grabbed, two spare changes of clothes are in a plastic bag (which is then thrown in the backpack along with her headphones), a Cat that had kept her company all night is dragged along too, brought into his usual place in spite of his own protests (it was for the best, he'd get mad later if she left him behind) and with that burst of energy already fading as she walks out her own room, the dark-haired woman falls into a pace that is quite a bit slower than her usual, yes...

A walk instead of the usual dash...

Not down the stairs to the exit either, no, instead...

She wanders over to Vier's room...

Might as well ride together right?

They hadn't exactly planned to take the morning commute together, but they were supposed to meet up at the hotel today, so hell, why not just do the whole thing together?

    A knock on the door.

    "V? You in there?"

    ...If not...

She'd be doing the trip alone...

---Skipping school was looking more and more appealing by the minute, too..

    Exodus (Complete)

Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stilled and the actors leave the stage, the story will never truly end.

Regardless of the form it takes, as long as there are memories of it's existence, the story will continue on.

In a small ward in the heart of a once devastated town, life carries on as it always has...

    Because of you.

    Please, remember it warmly.

We'll continue to walk down this path for eternity.

I got out of bed slowly, with bleary eyes and a loud yawn. Sleep, as it was, had not come easily. My mind had been racing half the night, and even with that little pick-me-up from Devon, delving that deeply into the arcane was truly exhausting. As I rubbed my eyes of sleep, I looked at my feet.

Seven choirs, already? That damned abomination was going to be the death of me. Even if its not like she could roam very far away from me, she was so frustrating about it that I could barely comprehend the ridiculous absurdities she would be getting up to. You would think an eldritch monstrosity of soul and magic would be more sensible, but...

Ah well. There's nothing for me to do about it, is there?

Delving into my soul for a moment, I found that mockery of a 'link' between us, stained and twisted by her very existence. Tapping it once, then rapidly prodding it several times to let the idiot know I was aware she was abusing her privileges as my shadow, I exited the guest room. If Cesarina was awake, then there was only one place I should be after all.

Hopefully, Potemkin hadn't already introduced herself. That might go poorly.

The few hours of sleep I managed to have was definitely not enough to make my body forget the events of last night, but it was still more than nothing. Enough to keep me functional, at the very least.

Stretching my arms while sitting on the edge of my bed, I take note of the fact that my room is starting to get too small for the amount of people we are trying to accomodate. Cleaning up a room for them in the closed section started becoming more and more of a reasonable idea, though...having them so close definitely had its advantages as well.

When they were within an arms reach, it was unlikely for anything bad to happen to them, after all.

Moving around the room as quietly as I could - so as to try and not wake them up - I dressed up and gathered some of my things into my bag, then, with a note and some snacks left on the table, I headed out, closing the door behind myself. Surely, they could occupy themselves for a bit until I got back.

Lost in my thoughts, I absentmindedly paced down the stairs, out the dorms, and towards the main building.

Where exactly to go from here?

What was the most sensible thing to do?

Reaching into my pocket, I could feel the softness of the doll that's been there since last night.

But how exactly did it work? I never got to use it before, and even though I had an idea about its purpose, I wasn't entirely sure how.

After sitting down at an empty table in the cafeteria, I reached into my pocket again, and squeezed the doll slightly.

Not that it was supposed to help in any way.

    [H-hello?]

No, it had to do with my thoughts, but it was still a bit blurry.

    [Does this thing work?]
