    I had a dream last night that the next version actually got released and Jack was posting comparative screenshots between the OPs used in v0.9.1 and the newer versions I made.

    And in the same dream there was someone stating that they were working on waifu2x'ing the Vita OPs up to 8k resolution (...which by definition isn't going to be 2x but rather 8x, but whatever - it's a dream).

    This instead makes KK2 close itself automatically (not a crash, just "minimizes itself") after the "boot sequence", without writing anything to the log.

    The patch files include the following, in case it makes any difference:
    - patch_h.xp3
    - patch_hd.xp3
    - patch_vita_ost.xp3
    - patch_op.xp3
    - patch_lang_english.xp3
    - patch.xp3
    - patches.json

    E: Just for good measure, this is the same whether I'm running the latest version of the app or 1.2.6 which reportedly worked for others.

    Thank you again! I actually felt kinda bad last time as I had to go away for like 9 months. But I'm back and working on stuff again. So uh, sorry about that.
    Also... there was an interest in an HD version of HA, but since there are no upscaled resources we'd need to waifu2x all the resources of the game.
    If you're interested, I can take care of the coding (which is already like 90% done since both games share most of the code).

    And wow those OPs look good!

    - FFmpeg with the "accurate_rnd+bitexact" flags to extract the frames;
    - Follows waifu2x_caffe with CUNet model, Denoising level 0. TTA thrown in the mix too, because it helps compression with no visual cost, since all it does is averaging 8 different upscales of the same patch rotated and flipped in different ways, removing some very low level noise;
    - Then FFmpeg to losslessly compress the upscaled frames to a FFV1 RGB master, finally encoded with ffmpeg+x264, veryslow, Animation tune, 2pass at 13Mbps to hit the 140MiB target.

    Fun fact - I re-recruited SmilingWolf again over on Doom9 when he suddenly reappeared on Doom9's AOMedia thread and gave him the spiel that, after I waifu2x'd the Vita UBW and Vita HF screencaps for the "HD" OP preview images and found the results to be way better looking than I could have imagined, I kind of wanted to then straight-up waifu2x the entire OPs since the Vita-ripped versions are only 544p and stuff.

    Oh so yeah, this also means that the actual preview images and the like don't need to be updated because I already manually waifu2x'd them. (I mean, they needed to be 1229x691 and the OPs are only 960x544, and traditional upscaling looked like trash that was amplifying compression noise anyway)

    I just want to quickly chime in here at least regarding its OPs specifically.

    If you aren't aware, the 2005 original OPs exist on the Type-Moon Fes. Blu-ray. But be mindful if the original 2005 OPs were 30fps, because the one active 1080p torrent for Type-Moon Fes has everything encoded at 24fps - you have to instead go with active another torrent that's 720p in order to retain any sort of 30fps.

    And assuming that the Vita OPs for HA are different than the original 2005 OPs, then the same sort of waifu2x'ing could probably be done but keep in mind that the color range issue may apply here as well.

    Yep, there is an option (and a whole model) to upscale the image without denoising. That's the "Magnify only" option in waifu2x-caffe, or "None" on http://waifu2x.udp.jp/

    No lossless yet, as today I had some encodes to run and wanted to do them in the least noisy system conditions possible to get reliable timings.

    My upload speed is pretty much just as slow, but I've already finished the stuff and it's currently uploading as I type this. I'll send Quibi a PM with a link once they're done.

    Also I preferred to repackage the MP4 myself anyway because I add some metadata to the files for referencing and documentation purposes.



    ...oh so uh, yeah Quib, if this elusive "should-have-already-been-released" version of ultimate edition isn't coming out in the next few days, then I'm going to be sending you another set of updated MP4s in presumably a couple days from now for farther-updated Vita UBW and Vita HF OPs that I'd prefer to be used instead.

    So don't be surprised if you download 300MB worth of files only to then download another 300MB worth of files a few days later to replace the first set...

    I've just now sent Quibi the link for SmilingWolf's x264-encoded waifu2x upscale repackaged as MP4 with all the according metadata and volume-corrected audio.


    BTW, even though I said I would re-encode with placebo and stuff, I might actually not. Or rather, I might not actually upload any re-encode if I can't really tell the difference even when zoomed in a bunch and comparing individual frames.

    Did he announce this on social media or something that he's recorded everything already? Because in terms of his actual uploaded videos, he totally hasn't finished yet and hasn't even made it to the Rider vs Saber Alter fight.

    Anyway to clarify, the "time limit" in this case was just simply down to whenever SmilingWolf gets the lossless version uploaded, so I estimated that it'd be a couple days for him to do that and then for me to download and re-encode it and stuff.

    Now to clarify, the MP4s that I've PMed you just now are the x264 encodes that SmilingWolf made with veryslow + fast first pass.

    Speaking of Tanner, I believe Tanner does. One of his videos early in the HF read-through showed him unboxing F/sn and HA and they only had a download code.

    Oh that's right, because HA has no natively high-res art assets, then this would actually be one of the best use-cases where just-in-time waifu2x upscaling would make sense!

    BTW, does this mean it'll support 2x scaling and not just the 1.6x scaling used in "ultimate edition'?
