    Hyakka Onjouji
    Neo Aoyama, City Center (Simulation)
    Monday ~ Morning

    “Ueh?”

A faint red began to creep onto tiny cheeks as the Tamer-to-be looked about. Her attack had gone… but it was, and then, but it still hit…

“Eeeeeh? I fell for Nakahara-senpai’s plan, but Kaori-senpai was expecting me to fall for it? Then… I did good…” She hung her head for a second. “… but bad.”

“The result is what matters, Hyakka.”

“You can’t justify everything by just looking at the results… that’s not what a hero does…”

“But you’re not a hero. Not yet.”

    “But…”

“Chin up. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. If you want to do what a hero does, learn from this.”

    “R-right!”

Twin fists balled together pumped up with a small battlecry, aimed toward the enemy. An enemy that was now retreating into an advancing forest. As Kaori-senpai was now, thanks to Innervate, no hiding place would be safe for him. As long as he has a spiritual signature, he won’t be able to escape.

“Kaori-senpai!” Hyakka beat her wings and shot up into the air. “I’ll take care of Nanaya-senpai and deal with this forest!”

The wings spread out, suspending the girl in the air above. Hanging like an ornament from the dark sky, she shouted her intentions without hesitation. Unlike the other pair, Kaori and Hyakka had no experience fighting together. She couldn’t just take off and expect the older girl to understand her motives, even if it seemed that Kaori already had a firm grip on just what kind of person Hyakka was.

    “I guess I’m up.”

    “Please.”

A warm pulse spread from the girl’s chest, spawning from her brooch and traveling down to her fingertips and back. The Innervate spell electrified her to the core, heightening her senses on a spiritual level.

Hyakka closed her eyes, and peered down into the dark. At the same time, another spell’s sequence swirled within the brooch. Something heavier, a less harmonious and serene spell.

    Innervate cast.
    Dark Break cast.

    Daisuke
    Aoyama, Starlight Aquarium
    Monday - Afternoon

He may be inexperienced, but Daisuk's aim has always been perfect. His shot finds the mark, and an instant after planting the Bullseye on its target, Lexie throws in her chain to finish the job, reeling in the struggling girl with a single hand while...

    "Um, this is... s-sorry!"

Daisuke is left in a dangerous position! An even more dangerous position than before, where he can't look or move anywhere without putting himself in even more danger. Not that he'd want to look at or think about legs at a time like this! Definitely not! A COMP has no need for such feelings so now that he's thought about it there's absolutely nothing wrong, definitely!

    Quote Originally Posted by Sakurako

"Ah, look, calm down..." Obviously, that's impossible. "Look, we're not gonna hurt you! It might look bad, but we're here to help!"

Those words would've been a tough sell even under ideal circumstances. Right now, after they've already blocked the desperate girl's escape three times, they're worse than useless.

For example, Daisuke's naive reassurances do absolutely nothing... to stop the fourth attempt.

    "...!"

Even if he senses it a moment before it emerges, Daisuke can do nothing to stop the great, inky shadow from rising up and looming before them. Is this the Shadow that's possessing her? A twisted echo of what could've been a Persona? Unlike Sakurako herself, who has shown no aggression, he can't help but reflexively shy away from the thing.

It grabs Lexie's chain, and Daisuke only has enough to utter half of a "What?" before the ceiling breaks apart and they shoot upward, pulled into the sky.

Wind rushes by the boy, blowing away his glasses in an instant. Bright sunlight displaces the weak, artificial lighting of before. Only the fact that his eyes are artificial keeps them from squeezing shut, and he is able to glimpse the roof - a forlorn person standing upon it looking up at them - rapidly receding as they are pulled higher and higher.

    "This is...!"

No time. The boy immediately realizes the danger. Not only is this Sakurako's best way to flee once and for all, but, because Chris is still down there, they'll soon be too far apart to establish a link, and both Tamer and COMP will be worse than useless. Lexie can't dispel her chain, Chris can't catch up to the rapidly ascending Shadow, and Shuichi... is otherwise preoccupied. For better or worse, each of them is stuck, unable to move, including Sakurako herself.

Staring, paralyzed, clinging to Lexie with his meager strength, all Daisuke can do is reach down, across the mysterious connection between Tamer and COMP.

All he has to offer is fear and confusion... and the hand that reaches back offers much the same. And yet, from mutual despair...

The boy's eyes furrow. Something besides electricity sparks in his core.

He stares at the scared, tied-up girl in front of him, opens his mouth, and...

    "You..."

    Mokujima Chris
    Aoyama, Starlight Aquarium - Rooftop
    Monday - Afternoon

    "...ah."

Mokujima stands on the roof, staring upwards as her friend, her COMP, and her teammate all shrink away into the sky.

She raises a hand, as if to close her fist around them and prevent everything she cares about from leaving... but they slip through her fingers.

    "..."

It's useless. Yes, it's definitely useless. She was being too naive from the start. She and Sakurako both. There's no way to capture that girl without hurting her, without treating her like an enemy. To think otherwise is to endanger the lives of everyone involved with half-assed conviction. If she were to hesitate here and now, if things were to end like this... she would be worse than useless; Mokujima Chris would be a disgrace to every Tamer that put their life on the line to help others.

    "It's not half-assed!"

Through their link, Daisuke's protest is as loud as the clang of Notre-Dame's evening bells.

"Chris, don't hesitate! If you can't do it alone, then... She's your friend, right? If that's true, then I won't regret risking myself to save her, either!"

Mokujima Chris winces. The idea they both arrived at is insane. It's going beyond common sense, even by SDCD standards. And yet...

    "...it'll hurt."

"It'll hurt you more. But I know you can take it. And you know I can take it! Now come on! Justice doesn't come to those who don't reach for it with all their might!"

    "...understood. Daisuke, thank you."

That speck... she can still see it!

"Channel all magical power to me. And Lexie... don't worry."

Mokujima Chris doesn't carry a weapon. In a sense, Daisuke is her weapon, meant to fight in her place. But that doesn't mean she can't channel a spell through her body.

She raises her hand again, forming a finger-gun just as Daisuke had. She plants her feet, takes aim at the rapidly receding speck.

Spider's Web can't reach that far. Even if it could, it won't stop something that big. Phantasm Step won't reach either. An offensive spell to strike Sakurako directly is out of the question, even if she's unable to dodge, but a precise attack won't be big enough to stop the Shadow...

    So, there's only one option.

Magical energy reactor, maximum output. Channeling to User right arm.

    Safety override... disabled.

    Charging...

    30%...

    80%...

    150%...

    Ready.

    All...or... nothing!

    "AURA BLAST!"

Every last ounce of spiritual power is poured into the spell that rises triumphantly from the rooftop, curving towards the fleeing shadow.

    Everything Chris has.

Of course, also everything Daisuke has.

This is their final attempt to reach out their hand, before the chance is lost forever.

    Daisuke
    Aoyama, Starlight Aquarium
    Monday - Afternoon

    "You... you're a good person!"

That is the conclusion Daisuke has come to, after analyzing all the battle data.

"Not once! You didn't actually attack us a single time, so you're definitely not a demon! Actually, you're the kind of person that can't easily hurt others!"

Of course, he's not counting the pool of acid; that was just a spicy hiding spot. If one sees it that way, then all Sakurako has done is try to escape, just as all they've done is try to catch her. In short, neither party wants to hurt the other in this battle. And if nobody wants to hurt each other, then it's definitely possible to come to terms.

"I promise, we won't hurt you either! And Chris promises too! So please, come with us!"

In the midst of their ascent, he is the only one free to move. So he does, letting go of Lexie's athletic legs and clambering over the bound Sakurako. He looks rather silly, with his tie whipping to and fro and hair completely messed up, a tiny child completely out of place in the sky. And yet, Daisuke does not hesitate.

The boy wraps his arms around the girl in an awkward-looking bear hug.

"She wanted to do this! But Chris can't be here..."

They can all feel it now: something bright and hot and full of spiritual power, moments away. An Aura Blast is normally a big, easy-to-avoid spell, but now that it's locked on to Sakurako, it'll follow her no matter what. Combined with Chris' expert aim, it'll take something special to dodge, especially when she's wrapped up tight and her Shadow is such a clear target.

Lexie will be able to escape with her experimental spell, leaving Daisuke, Sakurako, and her Shadow to all be swallowed up. But that's fine, because...!

Daisuke turns mid-air and grows, his limbs elongating, chest broadening, taking him from a young child to a young man, who's large enough to clutch a girl to his chest and...

    "...so I'll protect you instead!"

...to take the brunt of that searing light in her place.

He has no defensive ability. No spell to protect him. He isn't even particularly tough.

Even so, Daisuke does not waver-!

    Will + 20

    This is it.

While this encounter cannot truly be called a battle in the strictest sense, the outcome of this 'confrontation' bears the possibility of being decided in but a few moments. Whatever this shadow creature was, it's move to 'rescue' it's host is easily the most efficient out of all of the pathways Sakurako had taken up till this point; crashing through buildings rather than navigating them, and heading skyward as if it knew this would disable at least two of it's opponents in time...

There is but a small window left to intervene, if you do not successfully do so...

Then this particular reunion comes to an end right here...

---In defiance of that ending, an azure wave of light emerges from the aquarium's rooftop. Easily outshining all of the spells that had appeared up until now, it is a spell cast with all of the Reiki your soul can spare, becoming a manifestation of not just heat and light, but your combined 'emotions' as well... After all, as spirit power is literally a force generated by a person's soul, it is intimately linked with their own emotions, surging or sinking in power alongside one's feelings, and in this instant...

There is no hesitation, just an overpowering need, a sense of great purpose, a task that must be fulfilled at all costs-!

---Those in it's path are unable to ignore the overwhelming heat of it's approach. It is the furthest thing from subtle, the light of a shooting star rising defiantly from the earth to strike down that shadow that seemed keen to escape into the darkness of space. Where one possesses clear means of escape and understands when she is prompted to do so, the boy that has become a young man has no intentions of fleeing, holding the bound body of a girl close to him as the light closes in, willing to use his own body as a shield for her when no other means seem to exist, and...

"A good person... What are you...?"

Of course he is swallowed up by it, along with both the girl and her Shadow.

Even if much of the power is his own, there is nothing stating that one cannot hurt -or even kill- themselves with their own power.

Even if his existence is not quite that of a humans, the sense of pain that overtakes you is no less real for it; having put everything you had into the blast, pain overloads all of your senses as every part of your body is struck in unison. It is like being caught in the center of a wave, an instinctual urge rising in your mind to grab ahold of something -anything- in a desperate attempt to keep your body from being dragged along with the current of spiritual power, but clenching teeth and determination simply turn that into a tighter grasp on the girl you must protect at all costs-!

Spirit Tamers are no strangers to pain, the nature of their existence is one where pain is inevitable; most say they just get used to it after awhile, after all, a hero that lets simple pain stop them would be a poor one indeed, and...

    "Gah... Ha..."

    Pained gasps.

It takes awhile to recognize them as your own, an instinctive reaction for life... Even if someone like you didn't need to breathe to survive.

---The world is kind of hazy, and the feeling of rising has been replaced with the tell-tale sensation of free-fall.

Of course it's only natural, having planned to shoot down the thing that had been dragging you into the sky, it's only logical that it's absence would cause you to return to the earth...

    "..."

It's hard to speak, but you keep clinging to the -seemingly unharmed- girl out of instinct, or rather, because you recognize that your job is not quite done here... While a fall would hardly kill anyone with any sort of notable power, you had still decided to protect this girl, and thus you'll see it through to the end...

That is why you can't allow yourself to lose consciousness until you hit the ground...

    Not until then...

It's a struggle, but willpower allows such things.

The blue sky is full of clouds. It had never been particularly clear all day, but distorted senses tell you when something blocks the path between you and the sun... At first it's just clouds, yes, clouds, but...

Soon after... You can hear the screech.

It's the same monster as before...

Somehow, just like you, it had endured that surge of azure light and heat. Plummeting down as you are, gazing at the world through a haze of pain and static, there is something off about the shadow now, like the butterfly had become something even less defined, a diving something that had been torn to pieces, yet continued to seek to rip the girl from your hands and escape regardless of your efforts.

    *Ba-Dump*

---There's little you can do about it.

Damaged to this extent by your heroic sacrifice, and having drained almost all of your spiritual power to nothing, there is little you can do on the supernatural side to keep her from being stolen from you, even so...

    Even so...

Twisting your body in spite of the pain, you present your back as the target once more; it'll likely be useless in the end, but that won't stop you from fighting until all of your functions cease, but-

A moment before it grabs you, it is knocked decisively off course by another shadow-like figure coming to intercept from above; this one has more tangible features, with unnaturally long violet hair and glowing white eyes serving as standouts, but the feminine figure vanishes just as fast as it appears, it's descent ending in an explosive dive into the lake behind the aquarium and...

Your body slams into the ground first, with the girl landing on top of you.

---The impact scrambles your senses for a moment, and while vision returns -at least partially- your sense of hearing does not...

    In that regard...

Even when Sakurako speaks to you, you can't hear what she's saying, nor can you read her lips.

    But you know she's there...

Or at least she is... For a moment.

    Yes.

While you can see her silhouette in front of you...

It seems to be melting away, or rather...

Scattering like light, yes, the girl seems to be turning into light, being drawn back towards the sky...

It's the last thing Daisuke sees, something he tries to stop perhaps, reaching out with a hand that should not be functioning but...

As something happens to his User in the distance, the world mercilessly cuts to black.

    ---

    Chris
    Rooftop, Starlight Aquarium
    Monday - Afternoon

"...Man, after seeing something like that... Well having to do this sort of thing is really gonna leave a bad taste in my mouth."

In better circumstances, you probably would have heard her walk out onto the rooftop.

Watching the spectacle unfold in the sky, Mokujima Chris had fallen to her knees after unleashing her final spell, muscles shaking as the body finds itself suddenly without it's usual spiritual reserves. It's an unpleasant feeling, a sudden sense of powerlessness and nausea as the familiar background 'hum' of your own spiritual power becomes a barely perceptible whisper...

It's tiring, to put everything you have into that sort of spell...

It's hailed for that usage of course, in some ways it is perhaps the purest of spirit-type spells, allowing one to simply strike something head on with the full force of ones soul, but...

Getting caught by something or someone hostile in the aftermath...

Is the worst case scenario here-!

You look back reflexively, a weakened sixth sense still screaming at you to turn around, but...

The only thing you see is an approaching fist, the hazy figure of a blonde woman whose features you can't quite make out...

"But orders are orders... And you guys couldn't handle her illness anyway."

    And then darkness...

    ----

When the both of you come too, it's in a room that is far removed from the aquarium.

In the same room -but separated by a sheet that's split the room in half- it doesn't take long for you to realize that you've been brought back to the SDCD's Medical Ward... Needless to say, waking up in such a place is less than ideal, a sign that the last encounter hadn't ended exactly how you had wished it would, although there is likely some solace in the fact that you have woken up relatively wound-free -albeit still aching all over- and...

    "Oh hey, you woke up!"

For Daisuke, an energetic Lexie (right side of her shoulder and chest wrapped in bandages) is sitting by the bedside, and with Chris...

    "...Are you alright?"

A certain Senpai is standing by the window, face as calm as his voice is warm, but...

Eyes alight with an emotion you can't quite place...

    Mokujima Chris
    An Unfamiliar Ceiling
    Monday - Afternoon?

When she opens her eyes, Chris is yanked away from something.

A dream, or perhaps a wish, or maybe even a memory she still hasn't internalized as real. Of smiling and laughing with someone precious. But when she opens her eyes and reality floods in, that delicate scene is swept away like dust, and with it, all the strength she had gathered to seize it.

    Quote Originally Posted by Shuichi

As usual, Chris can't find much to say. Even meeting Shuichi's eyes is difficult. He isn't scolding her (that'll be someone else, most likely), but the judgement of others - or rather, herself - is so heavy as to be stifling.

So, as is usual with her conversations, it drags out into silence.

    "Wah! Lexieeeee!"

From the other side of the thin curtain, Daisuke takes the opposite approach.

The sound of covers shifting. The bed creaking, and then...!

"You're hurt! Did something get you? It's 'cus we put you on the spot, isn't it?"

The COMP has managed to sit up despite sustaining heavy damage. He'll definitely need repairs, but for the moment, it appears at least his limbs and mouth are functional...

"I'm so, so sorry! I'll make it up to you, promise! You like cake, right!? I'll buy you one! Or, um, since I don't have an allowance, I'll bake you whatever you want!"

Yes. He may not be well... but he's functional.

"I can download a thousand recipes. That's enough, right!? And if you need your bandages changed, I can help with that, too! I'll even tell you all of Chris' weak points so you can beat her at fighting games every time!"

    Perhaps a bit too functional.

    "..."

It feels wrong, at a time like this. The situation can't have been resolved in a satisfactory manner. In a post-encounter report, all the miscalculations, errors, and breaches of protocol will be obvious. Regret will come crashing down, followed by the usual sludge of self-doubt and negative emotion. That's what usually happens.

So, it feels wrong when the corners of her mouth tug upwards involuntarily, and Chris finds herself smiling weakly.

    "...Daisuke's fine. So I'm fine."

Yes, despite this conclusion, she's going to be fine. Just that fleeting memory of Sakukurako's face, and the sound of Daisuke's voice, are enough to keep Mokujima Chris topped up. She will see Sakurako again. Next time, it'll turn out differently, through training and perseverance. The same, however, cannot be said for others.

"I... wasn't an ally you could count on."

Still smiling, she admits her failure and bows her head. But when she raises it once more, there's no trace of shame in Chris' eyes. She overcame that shame the moment she admitted to it. That's why she can see that Shuichi is also troubled.

"Sempai... there's something you'd like to say, right? Right now I can't do much, but I can at least listen."

    "Request acknowledged, beginning transfer."

A cheery, but also somewhat robotic voice.

While it is somewhat unnecessary for her to dictate each and every one of her actions, it seems the feminine A.I feels obligated in some way to do so, as if following the line of some inner protocol to the letter, and...

    "...Thanks."

...Just like that, Lucid acknowledges the data transfer without incident. He doesn't show any discomfort at it, meaning that either the data wasn't trapped in any way, or Burroughs herself had disarmed everything before handing it over, either way...

    "It was a simple task."

While she's being quite cooperative all things considered, you also get the strangest feeling that she doesn't understand everything you're saying... While the woman's silhouette remains focused on you when you speak, she had tilted her head to the side a number of times in a sort of thinking gesture, as if cross-referencing your words with a dictionary to figure out exactly what it was you were talking about, rather than simply asking for clarification aloud, either way...

"Current information on the dolls is limited, but I will do my best. The drones are mostly automatic models, although there was one manual controlled doll used by the Operator of this machine. Estimated place of origin for the machinery... Transmission records become untraceable at the North Pole, I am unable to confirm if that is their origin place, or simply where more potent measures are taken to protect their data trails."

    A pause, then:

"As for further attacks... I have no data on whether or not they occurred at this time. If they were committed, they were likely done by someone other than the operator of this system."

Other than her light confusion at some of your more interesting turns of phrase, this A.I...

    Was completely at ease.

    "Was that assistance suitable?"

    And with those words...

Comes another tilt of her head.

    "Was that assistance suitable?"

There was another, far more pertinent question beyond that innocent query. The DTG immediately rephrased it to what it truly represented. Essentially, what she really meant was "do you have any further questions?"

Yes! for the love of god YEEEEEES!!!!!

His investigative nature, the part of him that was a pure "detective" was absolutely screaming at him. Because, of course, the older man had not once asked about the twice mentioned operator. From the part of him whose root cause was to gather evidence and solve crimes, this was an unconscionable oversite.

However...the microphone's A.I. was one of the oldest COMP's developed in the second generation weaponization of the Plume of Dusk operation. As a result, he had learned a lesson not every A.I. had yet.

Even a computer had to sleep.

When the time came and Raz Stone, idiot that he was, retired, or died, then the HEAT microphone would have to slumber, somnolent and still until another master of the stage manifested. The DTG had seen to many sad things as it was. You don't enter that many battlefields without seeing dreams tattered, destroyed, cheerful youth turned into bitter old men, or worse, rapidly cooling corpses.

Why hadn't he asked about the operator, which the nascent life before him repeatedly proffered? It was simple. Even though the A.I. offered absolutely invaluable information, at least useful demographic details, gender, age, general description, and if he was lucky, perhaps elements of their spell craft formula, which he could begin using to develop a profile...

The detective knew that she would have to answer for everything she said here. The kind of man that would lash a child to his endeavors without understanding her naivete and innocence was the kind of man who would undoubtedly punish her severely in spite of such.

    He couldn't save her.

Burroughs was not in the laptop. Likely her core was in the same location as the true criminal. Even asking as to her location would place her in danger. Right now, she had not given away anything that time and care would not of extracted from the computer. As it was, her user would likely be so relieved at what she had not given away that she would face little push back for what she had told him.

However if Lucid or he were to aim for the information Burroughs had that would not have been on the system, details on her development or creation, or information on the Operator, these were the things that would see her treated...roughly. To say the least.

Sometimes a knight had to make sacrifices. Sometimes one innocent had to suffer so that the many could live in peace. Wise knights knew this. If you could win a battle that would save 10 villages, but in order to do so you had to pillage one village to feed your army, a knight needed to have the ability to do so.

But sometimes you also had to be able to not make that choice. Sometimes you had to be able to save just what was in front of you, so that the marks on your soul didn't harden into a deep blackness that blotted out all the light you tried to save.

Sometimes you had to be able to get to sleep.

"The assistance was great. You did good kid." That was all he said. Knowing full well that most likely the most likely scenario was that the next time they met, they would do so as enemies.

No, hell of it is, i'm probably gonna have to kill this kid.

That didn't matter. Here and now, he could save her from pain. Locking that thought deep in his heart, and swallowing a lump that should not have existed in his virtual throat, the DTG reached out and softly patted the head of the Burrough's system. He must have looked odd, stroking the head of the intangible figure, floating slightly over him, but it was somehow important to do so.

"You did real good kid." He said again.

Tipping his fedora, the old A.I. jerked his chin at the Lucid program.

Lucid of course, likely did not understand why the microphone based computer was not inquiring further. Far as Raz's A.I was concerned, it would be best if the quiet man never had to learn the lessons that caused one to make a choice like the DTG was making now.

As he exited out of the program, noting without surprise that the defensive protocols which had ensnared him in the system receded without need for force, certainly a further measure of the Burroughs unquestioning support, he had had one final thought.

Letting a trail go cold for a kid? Raz will never let me live it down...

    "..."

While the castle interior had always been rather comfortable, to those who were aware of the situation, the medical ward couldn't help but feel chilly, like some sort of malevolent spirit was wandering about it's various rooms...

"What, pray tell, were you thinking when you sent back a body that looked exactly like you?"

Of course such things were a bit of an exaggeration, rather than a malevolent spirit -which could at least be exorcised- the tall, cross-armed figure of a certain Mikazuki Serena is what has dropped the metaphorical temperature of this section of the building by about twenty degrees... Of course, having sent Ryan back home with the intention of causing a bit of an uproar, the presence of the Knight's 'popularity' Coach and Main Doctor at the gates upon your return was also a bit of an inevitable consequence of such a thing, but still...

    Another lecture, huh?

There was no real opportunity for you to escape. The moment you had returned to Camelot after the -seemingly successful- hacking attempt on the laptop, as well as the successful retrieval of the various artifacts, said retrieved items had immediately been whisked away to the labs to ensure that they were safe to bring into the more populated parts of the city, and after that, well...

Serena had sent Erika away to get some rest, and...

Had managed to corner you here...

"Do you understand how many pictures of your 'corpse' are floating around online?"

The death of a Knight would certainly have enough relevance to the general public to immediately become a headline online or in the news, but...

    "Yeah... Somehow."

The truth is, my entire body is in pain. I might be a hard-working demon tamer but, at the end of the day, I am still a student with a lot of chores that must be carried out each day with discipline in order to ensure daily life survival. As you may have guessed, I am not the kind of guy who goes to the gym or practices other forms of physical training. I simply lack the time to do so. The fact that endurance is my strong point in combat is a miracle that can only be attributed to my COMP. Indeed, the only reason I am alive after being hit by a high-speed human bullet right after overworking myself during that combo attack is, without a shadow of a doubt, Kioka's existence. Still, I do my best to not let the pain show, it wouldn't do well on my already poor image, and it would be disrespectful towards Nadia who, let's be honest here, was the real hero of the day. Had she been unable to keep that demon in bay like she did, we wouldn't be celebrating a victory right now.

... Or at least, that's what we would have done, had Miyagawa Hitoshi eyes' not been glaring at us.

    "Gah..."

Of all people, of all people...! It had to be the Headmaster of Aoyama Gakuen the one to find us out and in record time to boot. Not to mention he wants an explanation out of me and nobody else. I know my bad luck is legendary but this almost feels like a perfectly crafted plan to throw me into detention. This is bad... You see, while I am not a delinquent, the faculty and I don't exactly see each other eye to eye. In hindsight, I guess that can be applied to the majority of the S.D.C.D aligned institutions. It's just as that guy -Yoshino, was it?- claimed: My parents are guilty of treason and, as their son, a good part of the world is set on believing I share a part of the blame. My shitty past won't simply leave me alone...

---Which leads us to my current predicament.

If I don't pick my words carefully, I am as good as dead. Miyagawa doesn't look like the kind of guy who'd let a scene like this slip by and, in that case, I'll be the one most negatively affected by such development out of everyone involved. And yet... The first urge that sprouts out of my very being is to do the opposite. It has nothing to do with Miyagawa himself, however, after being on the receiving end for quite some time, authority figures tend to have that effect on me. If they blame for sins I have not committed, then I'll curse them with every ounce of strength I can find, that's what I said to myself back then.

I guess that makes me the one least intimidated by his appearance. Unfortunately, I can't help but to see him as the antagonist here. Or, perhaps I'm the antagonist and he's more akin to a lawful hero?

"What is that? You caught up to us really fast, sensei." I shrug as I distance myself from my teammates. Kyp instinctively leaps onto my shoulder. "But I guess that's to be expected from the top dog at the academy."

    I take a deep breath.

Do not be fooled. I know pretty damn well I cannot faze this man even if I tried. His stone face is as famous as my weakness to the physical element. Yet, before I knew it, I was speaking to him in a way that's charged with concealed hostility. Though I could pretty easily put the blame on Yoshino at this point, seeing as he's the one responsible for all this mess, and I'd feel pretty satisfied with the outcome, with every moment that goes by, I drift farther from that line of thought, my words guided by instinct alone.

    "Hah!"

"Isn't it obvious? That guy and me had a score to settle, far from the prying eyes of the faculty, so we agreed to use this space to fight. We didn't want to hurt each other that badly, so we figured this was our best bet. Least we expected was to be found out only minutes after we started."

    A poorly fabricated lie.

Honestly, I should just have made things easier and told the truth. Now I've got a pile of problems I didn't need waiting to crumble on top of me. Plus, I am vulnerable, if either Nadia or Yoshino choose not to agree with my argument, my situation could get even worse. Tch, why am I doing this again? It's not like I feel any sympathy for a guy who tried to kidnap both my breakfast and my partner...

"Nadia here found out and was against it. She tried to stop us, but blue blood over there used his demon to hold her back. It became a mess from that point onwards."

Right, I guess at this point it won't really change anything, but might as well chant the magic words.

"We're sorry and it won't happen again."

    Monday - Noon

    "..."

While it is somewhat foolish to answer in the way that you have, there is not a single person present that can deny that Amamiya Sho has just shown a deep sense of bravery befitting that of a Spirit Tamer. While the SDCD is the most 'relaxed' of the Main Four Factions when it comes to training their personnel, this man, the headmaster of Aoyama Gakuen, is the one exception to the faction's more laid-back tendencies...

The aura of expectation that comes from him is insane; those in his presence often find themselves falling to pieces due to nerves, as eyes that seem to pierce right to your soul easily shake the spirit of all those that come in contact with him... He is someone who can force others into silence simply by being in the same place as them, a man who refuses to flinch -or even emote really- in the face of anything, be it the most powerful Tamers of the NWAB, or Demons on the scale of the Lord of Darkness Lucifer himself, in other words...

---You are acting in open defiance of what is probably one of the strongest humans on the planet, and that, if nothing else, is commendable...

If incredibly foolish, as a certain Nadia Starr makes clear with facial expressions alone... You aren't great at reading people's faces admittedly, but you know a "what the hell are you doing?!" look when you see one, and indeed...

Antagonizing for the sake of antagonizing...

You could easily point the finger at your opponent in this instance, and with witness reports from the others probably get him to believe you, but your desire to rebel against authority -perhaps in practice for a rebellion against fate- has you more or less defending your attacker by taking half of the blame on the incident on top of yourself... Of course, the SDCD do stress the importance of connections, so taking the heat for one's friends isn't exactly unheard of, but...

Yoshino is definitely closer to an enemy...

    Yeah...

It's not the smartest move. Your story will fall apart if the others don't agree with it, and if the headmaster finds out you had the gall to lie to his face, he'll...

Probably be impressed that you did it for someone else, before doubling the punishment he would give you-!

That was the sort of vibe he had always given off-!

    "I see."

    Yes.

While silence had reigned supreme after your defiant burst, as if everyone was so baffled by it that it had sent them all into shock, when the teacher finally does speak he does so only after locking eyes with you, as if accepting your challenge, or rather...

Accepting that this was how you were going to use your one chance to defend yourself-!

"In that case, since you two were so eager to use this building, I expect you'll have no complaints with cleaning and restoring it yourselves this Wednesday correct?"

Judgement -specifically an odd form of detention- comes down quickly.

It allows no one to intervene, as the guilty are only allowed a few words to defend themselves before this particular judge, but-!

"Just one day? You're slacking old man! These kids are all weak! Losers! You gotta hit em harder than that, hee ho!"

As if sensing that now was the best possible time to make things worse, a certain Jack Frost also finds his voice in the face of an impossible to defeat opponent-!

    "Jack, shut up!"

Which brings Nadia back to life as well, the red-haired racer reaching out to cover her demon's mouth with her bare hands in an attempt to keep him from finding a way to worsen the situation, now that she's been put in a spot where if she tells the truth it has the real danger of making things worse for you due to your lies, but-!

"Ah yes you're here too Mr. Frost. It almost slipped my mind, but do not think I am unaware of your numerous shoplifting incidents over the past week. It is unfortunate, but it seems I'll have to have Ms. Starr take responsibility for it as well... Yes, I'll have you help too, Ms. Starr."

"Seriously...? But I don't even go to your school... And Jack was stealing again? What the hell?! What was he taking?!"

As if your words had started a twisted avalanche, everything has started going downhill, and...

"Of course, I will acknowledge Mr. Frost's point as having some value. All of you could be much stronger than you are now... So we'll turn that one day of detention into three days. I will oversee all of them myself of course, to ensure that there is no... Mischief."

Funnily enough, where your group seems to be a bit more 'lively' in the face of the principal, Yoshino and his demon...

    "..."

Are taking the safer, silent path, still...

"I trust none of you have any problems with this arrangement?"

    That even tone of voice...

Almost seems like it's curious if you'll resist more-!

Avalon - Castle Complex (Medical Ward)
    Evening

Don't squirm so much flatfoot. you look like a dirty suc 2 screws from singing like a canary.

I can't help it. Hospitals make me antsy!

There was no helping it. You would think that someone as chronically overworked as the kingdom's bard would relish a rare chance to catch up on his sleep, but it never worked out that way. The food was bad, the coffee was worse, and there was always a certain dark haired flat chest to swing by and point out that him getting injured or screwing up meant a bunch of letters from irate or worried fans for her to deal with.

He did know...as she often told him...that her job ran her ragged as it was. You would think Raz's own work to drive up recruitment and generally burnish the knight's overall image would earn him some slack, but it never seemed to work out that way.

There was an audible click as the DTG projected himself leaning against a nearby wall. He appeared in the middle of the act of lighting a cigarette with an old silver lighter.

...Of course, that click really hadn't been the sound of him lighting a smoke. It had actually been a phonetic notice that the old A.I was using his link with the Hermes' Shades Raz wore to manifest on the outside. Most COMPS usually had some ability to communicate with other Tamer's but due to the wealth of equipment resting on the bridge of the dark haired man's nose even a full lifelike animation such as the one he was currently presenting was nothing difficult to manage.

"So the rookie is dead huh?" the old detective drawled. "Right shame. 'Thousand dames must have been bawl'n their eyes right out into their pillows. What you think flatfoot, was capping off on so many 13 year old girl's fantasies worth it?"

Raz blinked. Dealing with both the DTG, who was a nigh flawless partner in battle but lived to make life more difficult in the day to day world was bad enough, but trying to deal with this kinda tag team was totally unfair.

...Well, heh, it would be, if he didn't have a secret weapon.

"No worries mate!" Raz responded almost immediately. "Even if I have broken a bunch of kid's hearts, we can just send you to cheer them up. I mean...looking after little girls instead of doing your freaking job is pretty much what you do these days, riiiiiiiiiight?"

Now, it went without saying that Raz understood why his COMP had made the hard choice that he did. Hell, he approved.

But God as his witness, he was gonna milk that one forever.

The surly A.I. wisely stuck to glaring in response instead of getting baited into a conversation he couldn't win.

Turning back to his sometimes nemesis, sometimes employer, Raz opted for cheekiness. Which was pretty much standard for him and their usual interactions, of course.

"I wish I could come up with a good excuse, but honestly i'm just so surprised Ryan didn't crash my ride. Come on Serena, just admit it, you were worried about 'lil ole me!"

"Why don't you hold one of your shindigs, you chippy crooner?" The DTG mocked, aiming to get a piece back for a minute ago.

"You could call it, 'the rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated!' or something" the blond man finished, blowing a photo-realistic smoke ring.

"Please shut up for ten sec.....o.......hmm." Raz had raised a warning finger at his partner, but after stopping in his mental tracks for a moment, placed it against his own lips in contemplation.

"Oh dear god." A certain fedora wearing man let his face fall forward to rest on one of his palms.

"Sereeeena..." the young knight almost sang, mirth raising his lips in a toothy grin. "...I got an idea!"

"Oh dear god..." The DTG said again, bringing forward his cigarette holding hand to cover the other side of his face so that most of his visage was blocked by his remorseful palms. "What have I done..."

Together in the Sea of Souls
The Start of a Long Road...

    Blaise Pendragon

    Blaise Pendragon

"Did you hear about Pendragon breaking the school walls again? I heard it was because he was trying to get away from the nurse, but... Irmina-Sensei is the type who has more fun if she gets to chase you... He might regret it in the end, especially cuz the Principal's looking for him now too... A delinquent's fate, I guess?"

    Off-Screen Actions

    >You hang around with Isamu. His hideout has a surprising amount of kitchen equipment, so there's no need to hold back-! The meal is a success (although it also feels like he'd eat most things)! You feel your relationship will grow closer soon.

    >You decide to feed Tsukiko again, although the indirect danger she poses to the store's finances is a tangible one... You are forced to pacify her with the family's secret "Beef Bowl" art to put an end to things. All in all a success! You feel your relationship will grow closer soon!

    >Patrol the town in your own way, crushing one dishonorable gang at a time and keeping the street-level peace... A sudden ambush by the Aoyama Gakuen Faculty?! Are they really willing to go this far to ensure you graduate?! It seems extra-credit hours (detention) might be in your future soon-! Of course you don't actually have to go, but if you keep skipping the faculty might continue to escalate...! This week's detention will be held in an old SDCD facility outside of town either way...

    >Making sure no one sees you do it, (You have an image to maintain after all) you make a stop at the "Brighter Days" Orphanage to deliver some sweets to Yuriko and the orphans. While she continues to deny her status as your kouhai for some reason, it seems she appreciates the sweets all the same! The kids do as well! You feel your relationship will grow stronger soon!

    >Even if she succumbed to a nurse's bizarre advances and abandoned you first, it still feels like you should apologize to Noriko. Naturally, the best way to do this is through a meal-! Considering how much you've cooked this week, you're really feeling it today-! It's a great success! You don't feel like your relationship will get stronger just yet. As an apology of her own, Noriko gives you a hand-made Omamori for good luck! Is she trying to imply something...?

    Acquired Items

    -Noriko's Charm-
An Omamori hand-crafted by Noriko, who seems to be taking up arts and crafts as a new hobby. While there are certainly inscriptions on the amulet you can't read them -as it appears to be some nonsense language- and Noriko herself refuses to tell you what they say-! By that same token, you can't actually tell what it's supposed to do, if it's even supposed to do anything-! Even so, there does seem to be some sort of power inside of it...

    Cosmos Fairchild

"She collapsed in the halls a few days ago and is already up and working again? Well, I guess being Mary's kid would be pretty good for your work ethic."

    Off-Screen Actions

    >You go out on patrol for a bit. Things are relatively peaceful out on the streets, but the angels seem to be whispering about a strange blue-haired woman training outside the city limits after nightfall. She's not there when you go to check yourself, and the organization doesn't seem to think she's a threat, but it feels like you could run into her if you put some more effort in... In addition, while patrolling the city you spy Lailah flying overhead-! She drops one of her feathers -seemingly by accident- and says you can keep it when you question her on it-!

    >You watch over Miyu in the medical ward. While the two of you have never really met before this week, it seems she thinks you feel familiar... You feel like forging a more potent connection with her is possible now-!

    >You spend time in the garden with Mary. While the both of you enjoy it, it seems it'll be a bit longer before you can strengthen your relationship with her further.

    Acquired Items

    -Lailah's Feather-

A feather from the wings of Lailah, an Angel known as both "Night," and as the angel "closest to human hearts." A potent supernatural material that bears a weak effect of "bringing darkness," it seems that someone with the right skillset might just be able to enhance it enough that it could then be infused into your (or someone elses) COMP-!

"I heard she's been given 'that' mission by the Commander... I guess it makes sense, she's not the type that really gets herself into trouble, but she's not that good at social activities either... Is she really okay with being sent away for awhile?"

    Off-Screen Actions

    >Go out on patrol for a few days. The Holy City is as peaceful as ever, but that doesn't mean there aren't any oddities... Rumor amongst your fellow Tamers is that Nakamura Megumi, one of the "Big Three" COMP Creators, will be coming into town some time this week to help with maintenance on the faction's systems... So perhaps it's worth dropping by to say hi?

Of course, that's not the only thing, inspection of some of the woods outside of town has revealed a particularly peaceful (if bizarrely placed) hot spring out in the wilds... It's therapeutic benefits may not be of much help to you, but it's quiet and makes it pretty easy to concentrate... Could make for a good training spot in the future.

Finally, there's been rumors of a... Spirit, hanging out inside of the bathroom at the local LOVELESS Mall, of course ghosts are certainly real, but to haunt a toilet stall... Do they really have nothing better to do...? It's not a priority case, so investigate (or not) at your own leisure, it's not too likely to run away.

    >Hang out with Catherine. Being a dutiful kouhai, you listen to her hour-long lectures and tangents with a sincere joy, and she seems to appreciate it-! You feel like your relationship will grow stronger soon!

    >Hang out with Agatha. Having proven that she definitely doesn't exist only inside of your head, you embrace the bizarre nature of the Velvet Room, trying to bond with your new companion... The music never stops, and she has a surprising interest in dance in spite of her shyness, but you're able to get into the swing of things eventually, even if it's a little embarrassing-! You feel like your relationship will grow stronger soon-!

    Ayra Lilygrove

"It seems Ayra was the one involved in the Akarana Case... I hope the evidence they got is decisive, because that family won't take this sort of thing lying down..."

    Ayra Lilygrove

    Off-Screen Actions

    >Go out on patrol. There is apparently a skeleton challenging people to duels alongside the shore of Avalon's Main Beach... It only seems to act up if it senses strong people are around, and the faction's various attempts to get it to stop don't appear to have borne any long-lasting fruit... It's just sort of around, like some sort of wandering boss enemy that no one can get to leave... Well it's been determined to be 'effectively' harmless by the Command Room, still, no ruling against sparring with it either.

In addition, while wandering around the remains of the Akarana Estate, a certain item caught your eye, mostly because it was somehow undamaged...

It's just a sword -albeit an unbreakable one- but it seems that if you want it, you can keep it...

Or at least, that's what the message from Akarana says... Which is strange enough in and of itself.

    >You work on improving one of your spell formulas. It seems it'll take some more work before it's complete.

    >Hang out with Tsukiko. It's a bit painful at first, with Tsukiko treating everything in that detached fashion that becomes so prevalent around you... But it seems that the atmosphere of the mall is a bit conductive of this sort of thing, as she begins to show genuine interest around the third shop, asking for your opinion on a few new sets of clothes... It's a breakthrough of sorts, albeit a very weak one... Still, it feels like your relationship could grow stronger soon-!

    Acquired Items

    -Maken-
A white long-sword made of a strange metal that you can't classify, but that seems able to withstand significant physical and magical pressure without breaking or losing it's edge. Other than this immense durability however, it doesn't seem to bear any significant supernatural abilities of it's own...

    Logan Starbright

    Off-Screen Actions

    >Spell Study. You work on the potency of one of your formulas. It seems it'll take some more time before you can complete it's refinement however...

    >You make a request of Astra. She accepts. You feel like you'll get stronger soon-!

    >Went to the LOVELESS Formula Shop (SLEIPNIR). Purchased a Spell Formula.

    >You work on integrating a new Spell Formula. You feel like you'll get stronger soon-!

    >Material Search. You head into the Demonic Server along with Ludwig. It's chaotic as ever inside, and an attempted mugging by a wandering group of demons leads to you taking the strange metal that they have on them instead-! It's how Demon Culture works so they have no right to complain-!

    >You hang out with Anna. It's rare to see her outside of the Command Deck, but she doesn't seem to mind when you join her for coffee on the recreational levels of the ship. It feels like your relationship could get stronger soon-!

    >Material Search. You head into the Demonic Server along with Logan. It's chaotic as ever inside, and an attempted mugging by a wandering group of demons leads to you taking the strange metal that they have on them instead-! It's how Demon Culture works so they have no right to complain-!

    >Went to the LOVELESS Formula Shop (SLEIPNIR). Purchased a Spell Formula.

    >Play with your fans heartstrings a bit by promoting your next concert electronically. It's a bit cruel in some ways, but the internet's endless debates on the morality of using a star's name/the obvious publicity stunt this all clearly is keep the cycle of fame spinning... A lot of eyes will be on your next debut, better not screw it up-! Serena seems strangely inspired about the whole thing, way more than normal... So it seems you'll have some help with the song writing-!

    >Go out on patrol. No further drone incidents have been reported since the initial two incidents, and other than the Matador apparently bothering people at the beach, it seems the world is relatively peaceful... Still, a different 'idol' is apparently making her way to Avalon at Serena's request soon, while the reasons behind it are unknown, you're pretty sure she's supposed to be coming around sometime this Friday...

    >Stop messing around with the internet, and make the "The Rumors of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated" Event an actual tangible reality-! While it seems Serena went a bit overboard with the song she had been working on, deciding that it would be best to save it for later, your own "Still Alive" seems to be a hit with the crowds-! Not only that, it seems Serena has somehow gotten some of the squires (specifically those involved in the incident) to act as backup dancers-! It was a bit traumatic for them at first, but the experience has certainly brought you closer to all of them as a group-! While some on the internet decry you for emotional manipulation, it seems your brand is gonna grow-!

    >Have the DTG collaborate with other A.I on older, unsolved mysteries. This time around Lucid heeds the call, having apparently been looking into Avalon's history a bit more himself. As far as the two of you can tell, the only notable roboticist on the island is -or rather was- a certain "Akarana Liam." The roboticist in question disappeared a few years ago without any signs of a struggle... Amamiya Sho

    Off-Screen Actions

    >Go out on patrol. A chance encounter with Shuichi leads to him pursuing you for the purposes of lecturing you on your upcoming detention, as well as the actions that led to you getting it-! It's a heated argument that seems destined to last for your entire shift, but when a certain blue fairy appears, he joins you in it's pursuit without complaint. Successfully confronting the fairy this time, she tells you her name is Ruu, and that she's sorry for how she had acted earlier...

As an apology, she hands over a strange mirror, before somehow teleporting away.

A bizarre fairy, all things considered...

And it's not the last time you see her either, as Akiko, upon hearing about your earlier meeting with the fairy, leads you to a certain "Fairy Fountain" in the woods outside of town, apparently so in-tune with nature that she doesn't realize her knowledge about such a thing is "bizarre." It's hidden inside a hole in the mountains, a place of clear water and shining lights where a number of fairies and pixies roam... Just being inside of it is strangely pleasant, and the fairies seem to have gotten the idea that you're a "good person" from Ruu, so they don't mind when you arrive but...

You leave without exploring too much of it for now. Still, Akiko seems pleased that you were willing to accompany her on the trip, you feel your relationship may grow stronger soon-!

    >Tune in to the Shopping Channel... Or rather, since something came up, leave it to Nadia to do it in your place. She has better reaction times, but Jack was giving that Jack smile of his...

It gives you a bit of a bad feeling...

    >Ask Ibaraki to train with you. Considering your previous bit of history, Ibaraki is somewhat reluctant when you request that she fight you with all she has, but in the end she relents. The resulting match is one in which you are launched across the battlefield a number of times, but this time, you don't find yourself waking up in the hospital-! In some ways she seems more relieved than you about this outcome, still-! It feels like your relationship may grow stronger soon.

    >Considering your monetary situation, you check the SDCD's billboard for help requests-! Tragically, most of those you ask find mysterious reasons to shut the door in your face after thinking about it for a bit... It's a bit sad, another stroke of bad luck...

Thankfully, it seems a few of your friends have tasks you could help them with, so perhaps the tide is turning:

Nadia: Need a copilot for an upcoming "Duel Race." Ability to defend the vehicle from supernatural interference is preferable-!
Akiko: Help wanted with the maintenance of the base's greenhouses.
Ibaraki: Student needed for a delivery job. Local.

    -Physical Mirror-
A hand mirror with ornate markings along it's frame. Possesses the power to 'reflect' any physical attack that strikes it a single time, before it's magical potency has to be restored through spiritual maintenance. >Look into de-fragmenting Daisuke's memory of the battle with Sakurako. As far as the both of you can tell, the girl said "This is for the best" before being teleported away via some sort of magic.

    >Using your skills as a Spirit Smith, Make the best weapon you can from extremely basic materials. The lack of a potent spiritual core renders it's power lower than you'd like, but it accomplishes it's job as a basic supernatural weapon easily enough-!

    >Explore the Demonic Server with Puck as your guide. The sheer scope of the chaotic land inside of the server is intimidating, but for the sake of your friend and your craft, you push forward with the intention of not leaving until you get something-! Questioning a strangely cooperative -they seem to have been beat up recently- group of demons doesn't reveal much about Sakurako's mysterious Master... The nature of the Demon World is such that everyone simply does as they like without caring too much about what others do after all, although they suggest that if you "really need to know" then "go and ask Lucifer."

Of course getting an audience with the King/Queen -it's unclear- of Demons isn't exactly easy, as it'll only agree to see you if you can reach it... Still, Puck manages to -somehow- convince the group to keep their eyes open for any further developments. On the way to see if you can at least spot Lucifer's Castle, you find a nicely sized chunk of crimson rock along the edge of a pretty stereotypical lake of fire, the only one that really seems to exist inside the server.. Of course, a laughing female voice quickly convinces Puck that everyone needs to leave and leave now, and thus, it's all you get...

When asked why he freaked out so hard, the only answer is "Jezebel."

---Seems like a really powerful demon guards the lake surrounding the castle.

    >Work on integrating a certain spell formula. With Lexie's help, you manage it in record time!

    >Tune in to the Shopping Channel. Nothing got in your way this time, but the results have yet to be seen-!

    >Patrol with Shuichi. A relatively mundane afternoon all things considered, but a brief sweep of the local LOVELESS mall brings up rumors that the owners of the mall, the Weinbergster family, are sending the current head down to the SDCD branch in a few weeks....

    >Hang out with Lexie. Naturally, she wants to go to the family bakery. No, she isn't gaining any weight. Daisuke and Lexie's relationship feels like it might get stronger soon-!

    Acquired Items

    -Wrist Crossbow (Name Pending)-
A wrist-mounted crossbow made from basic materials, made to fire specially crafted bolts. Being a somewhat mundane weapon itself due to lacking a potent spiritual core of it's own, the crossbow itself is only capable of supernatural interference through use of enchanted ammo. With the available materials, it was possible to make the following:

Agi Bolts x 3: Basic elemental ammo. Equivalent to a D-Rank Agi Spell.
Firecracker x 2: Explosive bolt. Goes off when it strikes anything after being let loose. Blast radius isn't large, but a direct hit on a limb may be enough to remove it. Considered to be of the Fire Element.

    -Jezebel Shard x 1-
A shard from one of the molten rocks found in Jezebel's Lake of Fire. Due to demonic origin, can be used as a potent core for a "flame-based" sub-weapon

    >Get lunch with Kaori! While being the Student Council President means that her schedule is probably pretty tight, she makes plans to sit with you the moment you ask her-! Of course, today's lunch isn't anything special (there are some odd rumors of the "Golden Lunch" arriving at some point this week, although no one you ask describes it clearly), but it feels like you're getting along well in spite of that! It feels like your relationship could get stronger soon-!

    >Get lunch with Nanaya-san!! While she's still a senpai with a bit of a strange aura to her, she's just as receptive as anyone else to an invitation to the lunch table! Still nothing special about today's lunch at the academy, but there was a sort of invisible tension with everyone on their way to the lunch room... Oh well, you're sure it's nothing, and it doesn't inhibit your conversation with Nanaya at all-! It seems she's into "school mysteries," and plans to come back at night later this week to investigate some of them, inviting you to come along if you'd like-! It feels like your relationship will grow stronger soon-!

Get lunch with Nakahara!!! Nakahara-senpai never seems to take off his scarf, even when he eats... It's a bit of a bizarre habit, but a lot of the students in this school seem to have their own odd little quirks-! Still, it's difficult to understand how he gets it to always 'flow in the wind' even when there is no wind... Is it magic...? Still, slight abuse of magical power for aesthetics or not, he seems willing to eat with you, and you feel like your relationship could grow stronger soon-!

    >You work on integrating a new Spell Formula. You feel like you'll get stronger soon-!

    >Head into the Demonic Server (in a limited capacity.) Still being a student in the Tamer business you aren't allowed to just go into the Server on your own... But it seems the teachers are willing to take you there as part of an impromptu 'field trip,' with Belial ultimately sighing and saying he'd take you himself... Of course, finding something worth taking back proves to be somewhat difficult at first...

Until the teacher suggests catching a certain bug (looks like some sort of golden locust) and holding it inside of a cage he produced with magic. While you might not see the value in a bug, the man seems to think that it's a 'rare find,' so...

    Acquired Items

    -Luck Locust-
An (extremely) fragile golden insect normally found inside of the Demonic Server. It's pretty large -the size of a hand- and it's mandibles seem capable of at least piercing the skin of a victim with a bite... It doesn't need to eat or drink either, so it makes for a relatively low-maintenance pet! Still, it apparently steals a victim's luck if it bites them, so keeping it inside of it's container seems like a good idea!

    -Will of Fire-
A crimson scarf made in the modern Magic Era, designed as a form of supernatural armament. Made of a strange thread-like material that always seems to feel warm, it has a strong affinity with fire, and is capable of encasing the user in a protective aura of flames for brief periods of time. Allows access to the Unique Magic "Burning Heart," while it is equipped, encasing the user in an aura of fire that can augment ones attacks as well as cause damage to those that get too close, while simultaneously raising their resistance to flames by one full step.

Due to it's nature as an armagus, it is designed to fuel itself off of it's own internal stores of spiritual power rather than drawing on the power of the user or their COMP, making it somewhat effective as a piece of support equipment, but it has to undergo periodic maintenance in order to maintain it's abilities as a magic item, and can be destroyed through relatively powerful attacks by enemies.

At the moment, the number of charges this item possesses is five. Charges can be replenished during Free Phases, or more rarely, through Events.

    -Jet Boots-
A pair of magi-tech boots, made with a tron-esque aesthetic to them that went somewhat out of style a few years back. Allows the use of the "Spirit Burst" spell for movement purposes, or for attacks that involve one's legs, such as for enhancing the power behind kick-style attacks. Not very durable, it is nevertheless a common armagus used by those who would rather save their COMP's spell slots for other things.

Uses charges to function, at the moment, the number of charges possessed by this item is five. Charges can be replenished during Free Phases, or more rarely, through Events.

    Trial Sword
Not actually a sword! It's a sword hilt that was apparently made from a 'certain tree' in the Demonic Server! It doesn't seem to have any activatable powers of it's own, although, if it's used as the basis for something else...

    Tutorial: Free Phase (On Screen)

More intensive scenes that require far more direct player input, and can be chosen after the GM forms the results for the off-screen actions, and happen at some vague isolated time during the free period. Event Scenes encompass social link scenes (notable bonding moments with other characters), heavy investigation of a chosen area, as well as optional boss fights, all of which may offer rewards far beyond those normally attained by Off-Screen Actions, even if it doesn't become immediately apparent...

Character Events/Social Links: Progresses the story of another character, as well as their relationship with you. Much like the PCs, the NPCs have a path of their own through the story, and are working through their own problems as best they can; when a character wishes to spend time with you, they will appear as an option to spend time with in the on screen phase. Character events can encompass a number of things, from a more heart to heart hangout or date, to high-speed battles alongside them and everything in between...

These events heavily influence Link growth due to their nature, and the character's performance and actions during these events will ultimately decide whether the relationship goes in a positive or negative direction... Characters that have a good relationship with a PC are far more likely to help them out in return -even at their own detriment- in future scenarios, and will certainly grow to play just as much of a role in your PC's fate as you do in theirs.

Investigation: Designate an area or event to investigate. Follow up on a rumor heard during your patrols, the defenses of someone you're targeting, or even a simple hunch you may have formed by yourself... Can ultimately have a variety of results depending upon performance, and has the possibility of starting an optional encounter, or uncovering more secretive areas or shops.

Calling Card/Eliminate Target: If Joker/White Shroud, attempt to subdue this arc's target. Performance and preparation determine ultimate result.

???: Not yet applicable. Will appear at a later date.

    Neo Aoyama, City Center (Simulation)
    Monday ~ Morning

Putting aside the problem of Nakahara's apparent invincibility for now -although it was clear whatever it was drained his stamina to use-, you shoot up into the air in search of Nanaya, who was pouring an awful lot of spiritual power into growing what was certainly quite the sea of trees... Of course, it is not like the idea of terraforming the land through magic was some sort of impossible taboo; that sort of thing was certainly possible through the use of magic or magi-technology, but...

To use this much power to simply transform the battlefield... It comes across as suspicious, as if it was merely the first step in what was some sort of vague endgame for the other team. It can't just exist for the purpose of hiding Nakahara's signature in a sea of signatures, the amount of power being output here was more or less equivalent to a B-Rank incantation, and thus it must serve as a "trump card" of sorts for Nanaya...

In other words... It's something you should probably bring an end to, or at least try to interrupt to some degree...

Finding her shouldn't be particularly difficult, at least not with Innervate active on you; while the Trees themselves were a supernatural manifestation born from one of her spells -and thus had notable 'outlines' of their own that resembled Nanaya's- the one you would be looking for would simply be the one with the strongest reading, the one whose spirit had caught fire, who was feeding the spell that was quickly tearing apart the streets of Aoyama and turning it into something more akin to woods, a closed off area that you circumvent only by flying above, peering down through branches and leaves in search of your target, and...

    There...

Standing alone at the origin point of the wave of trees, and what had once been the intersection of a particularly busy part of Aoyama; trashed cars have been swallowed up in the wake of the sea of trees, the plants growing around them in such a way that it could be assumed they had gone after nearby life forms in their growth, and...

With the other two fighting in the distance, the girl straightens her posture as she raises a single finger. Power stops pouring out of her as the forest is as big as she seemingly wants it to be... She doesn't seem to notice you thankfully, likely as a consequence of being surrounded by so much of her own power, but what she does in the next moment is rather concerning, namely...

Holding up a single hand, and making the telltale shape of a gun, the girl points directly at the sea of trees that fan out wide from where she stands and...

Her finger catches fire -agi- and she starts to take an obvious, calculated aim at her own creations.

    ---Ah.

It all becomes clear to Camellia in an instant; unlike Nakahara's bizarre power which couldn't be 'observed' in any direct way, there are still things the A.I can tell about this spell even though it hadn't been around to see her cast it, namely...

Considering how tired she seemed now, and how much of her own energy she had put into each and every tree...

---It was almost certainly some form of bomb.

    An Unfamiliar Ceiling
    Monday - Afternoon

    "What, this?"

If you hadn't seen for yourself that Lexie was wounded, you would have never been able to tell by her voice alone... It's strange in some ways, the fact that she can so energetically ignore the fact that she had been hurt in such a severe way that healing magic alone hadn't been able to completely fix her body immediately -as evidenced by the bandages- but then again...

That might just be Lexie being Lexie, she wasn't the sort for drama, so much so that even silly things like cursed wounds aren't enough to bring her down-!

"This injury is nothing! I've been hit way harder in the line of duty, heck, when I was working for my old boss I got pinned to the wall with my own sword once-! Compared to that this isn't anything, so don't worry about it-! I'll be a-OK by tomorrow, I swear!"

Of course, while these words might also be distressing in their own way she doesn't view them as such, rather, she just shrugs the fact that she had been grievously impaled at least once in the past as if it was just a simple fact of life, a normal everyday thing-?!

---This person is strange, even so-

"Although I won't say no to cake! I won't say no to her fighting game weaknesses either-!"

-she does seem to be alright.

A little bit too alright perhaps, but alright all the same-!

    As for Shuichi...

    "..."

At first he just blinks, as if something about your words had surprised him...

It's a strange reaction for the dark-haired young man, who always seems to take everything in stride, having that air of someone who has more or less figured out exactly what is happening around him at all times, but today...

"...Something I'd like to say, huh?"

He actually seems unsure, as if struggling with whether or not he should speak, but...

"...Well, my Dad's looking for volunteers for a mission outside of Japan. Bit of a cross faction thing at the North Pole. If you're looking for your friend still... That's the direction she was taken in."

In the end he does, and...

"We leave at the end of the week. I've volunteered to go on the mission myself already, so I'll be around if you decide to come along as well..."

So saying he closes his eyes, takes two steps towards the door, and...

"...Sorry I was late back there."

Walks off into the noisy hallways of the medical wing...

He had said a lot, and he had certainly seemed impressed by you holding yourself together but...

    Troubled...

    Yes...

    The ever invincible senpai...

Had certainly seemed troubled in a way you had never seen him before...

    "Do you now?"

While she certainly understands the implications behind those words, it is not within the nature of Mikazuki Serena to smile at anything, even the antics of a certain well-beloved knight. She is the ice queen that banishes warmth with her presence alone, a slap in the face called "reality" for those knights that got a bit too lenient in their day to day activities, yes...

"If you mean to make a show out of all of this, I expect it to be flawless."

Ignoring any insinuations that she may have been worried for you in even the smallest of ways, the woman clinically dissects this little 'idea' of yours before you can really get the chance of explaining it any further-!

"I suppose merchandise of you as a zombie is possible... It's rather old-fashioned in some ways, very reminiscent of the 1980s, but those sorts of trends have been proven to be rather circular in nature. Or were you thinking of holding something more normal? No costumes?"

---She's going to keep going. Now that you've started her on this particular path, there is next to nothing that you can do to stop her from pursuing it, of course...

That could very well be the idea...

"We have to act quickly to capitalize on it either way. If we wait too long to turn it into a 'joke,' then it may come across as being needlessly cruel to your fans... It'll be a bit spur of the moment, but I can book the theaters for rehearsals. I trust you can pick up on additional choreography within a few days? We might as well lean into this misguided joke of yours as much as we possibly can..."

    Yep.

While she asks your opinion on some things, she also makes it difficult to find room to answer, still...

Since she seems receptive to the idea...

You might just get away with only a minor lecture this time around...

    Maybe.

SLEIPNIR - Hallways, towards the Medical Bay
    Tuesday - Afternoon

---Of course, it was only natural for the Commander to order that the hostile android be repaired to the best of the technician's ability.

It was the only move that truly made sense; while the Rothschild were certainly the shadiest of the Four Factions, the reality of the world is that Spirit Tamers are still supposed to be heroes, and when it comes down to it, heroes avoid death if it is at all possible for them to do so... Not only that, to have captured a member of the mysterious terrorist organization would probably be a great boon when it came down to fighting them again... Analyzing the robot's spell data should yield a usable encryption key, making it much easier to actually analyze them in future combat encounters...

All in all it was a good thing, you have no complaints as to what they planned to do with the captured assassin, and considering how many problems have suddenly emerged onto your own plate, it was the sort of thing you would have probably just let the others deal with in the end, but...

    "..."

For one reason or another... You were being called down to the laboratory, specifically because the robotic assassin in question seemed interested in talking with you...

    It's bizarre.

Even seeing the request pop up in your inbox was bizarre, in the end, Astra had been the one who had dealt the final blow to it, so you don't feel like it should have any real lingering resentment towards you, no real reason to reach out to you in particular, but...

It had done so anyway, and...

"It's restraints are active, maximum power, so there shouldn't be any danger in speaking with him."

With that, you had been allowed in to see the face of your strange enemy, and...

    "..."

Floating within the center of a large glass tube, kept from escaping by the glowing lines of his magi-tech prison, a flash of recognition flashes in the androids eyes at the sight of you, but...

It's a hazy flash of recognition, and...

Zero killing intent, replaced instead by an overwhelming sense of curiosity.

"You are... One of the ones that defeated me correct? My data seems to suggest this is the case, but my memory is somewhat fragmented... I cannot be certain from visual recognition alone."

Not only that, it speaks directly to you for the first time, and...

"If so I have a query: Are you a human being? Are the life forms on this ship humans?"

    ...asks quite the bizarre question.

SLEIPNIR - Brewed Awakenings (Rothschild Branch)
    Wednesday - Evening

Of course, if one were to go looking for Anna Ashford, there would be two places that one could typically hope to find her with some success.

Naturally, the first of those places would be the Command Bridge, specifically, the one who was actually flying the SLEIPNIR under most circumstances was Anna herself; it was a task that went hand in hand with her duties as a mission operator, a nightmare of stressful multitasking that the ever calm pilot always takes with a vague smile, as if the immensity of the task was something that didn't bother her.

Yes, it's in her nature to be a bit of a workaholic, which is why, every once in awhile, Adala comes along to kick her off of the controls for awhile, and when that happens...

Her most common retreat is this place.

It probably says something that her immediate response to being dragged away from work is to go pump herself full of caffeine, the woman drank the stuff like water more often than not, and yet she always seems to take a certain sort of joy from it that few others can hope to replicate...

    Yes.

Like drinking life itself, that was the attachment Anna had to this little coffee shop, located inside the depths of the SLEIPNIR's interior. While Adala was making the base more and more 'home-like' all the time, this was a shop that had been present for awhile now, one that had been here so long that you couldn't remember a time where it wasn't around, and...

    "Ah, Ludwig."

Sitting near one of the window seats -albeit, the image of the starry sky outside being something of a simulation- the Rothschild's ever faithful operator waves you over with a light smile, an entire pitcher of what was almost assuredly her nightly coffee placed on the table in front of her.

---While it is a coffee-shop, the place adopts a bit more of a bar-like atmosphere at night, with a television displaying the news -the Akarana Family was apparently in a bit of a scandal it seemed- hanging over the bar, where the bartender is chatting with some of the lower ranked staff; but whether the atmosphere is the energetic morning or the lazy afternoon...

Anna is basically the queen of this little place-!

As for why you were here, well... That one was simple.

She had called you down here, and you had accepted...

Sometimes life is just that simple.

As for what she wants to talk about... Well...

You could make a few guesses...

    Still-!

"Come on in and sit with me, it's kinda empty in here today."

Motioning to the seat across from her, the sweater-clad operator isn't quite as curtly professional as she is when talking on the clock... Of course, that is also in the nature of the workaholic... Still, not doing as she asks would kind of ruin the point of you coming all the way down here to see her, and so you do as she asks automatically, coming to rest on pristine crimson cushions and...

    "So, how are you doing?"

She gets right into things -probably because of the coffee- or rather...

Makes the first effort to get a conversation going...

"You're always checking in on me... So I thought I might return the favor for once."

It was far too strange. Why did the enemy android want to talk to him? The petty need to gloat about having him dead to rights before Astra stepped in? Inflicting some sort of esoteric curse? No, the technicians had him thoroughly restrained. It was beyond baffling, but if the weapon wanted to talk, then perhaps he’d answer questions about Sarah.

And with that hope, Logan entered the lab to see a large glass tube, mystic bars scrolling along its surface to restrain its prisoner.

"You are... One of the ones that defeated me correct? My data seems to suggest this is the case, but my memory is somewhat fragmented... I cannot be certain from visual recognition alone."
Logan blinked. No hostility? Does the cage include emotional suppression? No, maybe it’s a result of its damaged data files. Assuming it’s telling the truth. The being in front of him was far too different from the warrior who’d taken pride in their deadly battle yesterday morning.

"If so I have a query: Are you a human being? Are the life forms on this ship humans?"
Am I a human being, huh?

That’s a question that a lot of people have asked. Am I human? What does it mean to be human? Being a member of the species Homo Sapiens Sapiens? Possessing the capacity for love? Free will? Technically speaking, it’d be the first one. But that’s never what people mean when they ask ‘What does it mean to be human?’. They want to ascertain and define the ineffable fear that drives the pathological need to explain and identify the things they can’t touch or see but feel so very real: thoughts, hopes, dreams, souls. That base thrum that everyone felt on that day, that feeling of belonging and purpose, that assurance that we aren’t alone. So what is it that makes a human different from an animal, that brings humans one twig further up the phylogenetic tree? If I had to say, it would be a consciousness over the power of life. Is there an animal that kills an ant not for sustenance or by happenstance, but merely because it can? People kill because things annoy them, because things exist near them, because things are in the way, but at the same time they save them because they are pretty, or rare, or were easy to save. They take action to determine the lives of others on their own impulses and whims, not for survival or sustenance but for self-satisfaction. Acting on that higher plane, living on that stratum, that is what makes someone a human - possessing the responsibility of taking the lives of others into your own hands.

“Yes, that is correct. And I am a human. As are the others here, Homo sapiens or otherwise.”

Logan took a step toward the tank.

“I have questions for you as well. What’s your name? And what can you tell me about Sarah Starbright?”

"Looks like you have quite a bunch of free time in your hands, old man. Getting in our way... Watching over us... Hah, you almost make it seem like we're your personal favorites-!"

It would not be honest of me to claim that I was never scared of what form of punishment would befall the group after we got involved in this kid's show. However, now I see that there's nothing to be worried about. Though I should have expected Jack to say something that would get us into even more trouble, it appears that this shitty headmaster has a soft heart, after all. I mean, though I am somewhat regretful that I wasn't able to have Nadia escape scot-free, the punishment isn't that big of a deal. He could have, say, expelled me, or worse, sent me on a faraway mission with no paid expenses. Now that would be one hell of a nightmare.

    "..."

Again, I'd be lying if I said that I was not tempted for a moment there. I mean, it's actually Yoshino's fault that we've reached that outcome and most likely I won't get my discounted breakfast back, so it would be actually fair of me to demand that he gets punished more than the rest. Though I cannot do so in a direct way, I am pretty sure an indirect suggestion or two will help the case. After all, while we're here doing the talking, both his demon and him remain silent, like puppies in repentance. But, in the end, I decide it's best to just accept things as they are.

Honestly... Don't misunderstand. I don't owe this guy a thing, and I don't feel any sympathy for what happened to his parents. It's none of my business, really. It's just that this detention is actually the best way to punish a guy like him. What makes it even better is that a figure of authority will be there to ensure we don't take the easy way out. Sure, for someone who's always running out of time like me, having to come here to waste my time for three days is quite a pain in the ass. But, other than that, I can't hardly be bothered by it.

That's right, as someone who has been self-taught in the art of housework and who has mastered such discipline at a very young age, when cleaning a room without the aid of supernatural phenomena, it wouldn't be wrong to say that doing these kind of chores has become Amamiya Sho's true strength. The only battlefield where he cannot be defeated.

The same, however, cannot be said about a rich ace kid like Yoshino, who probably has someone else do his housework.

With this in mind, I simply give the headmaster a reluctant nod of approval.

"Can we go now...? I can't speak for the rest of us but I haven't had any breakfast yet, so I am pretty hungry."

    "...Heh."

While Aoyama Gakuen's principal is famous for being stone-faced in all scenarios -no matter how bizarre or despair inducing- there is something about the act of him seeming to chuckle, or at least... Make something akin to a laughing sound with that same emotionless face. Yes, being who he is, it is more or less unheard of for anyone to speak to him in such a rebellious manner, but...

He doesn't seem to hate it.

---Of course, his stoicism also makes him come across as never hating anything or anyone as well, a mastermind-like calm that easily hands out both rewards and punishments without becoming emotionally involved, but...

Even though the sound wouldn't be out of place for a villain spinning in his chair to reveal himself to the shocked heroes, in this instance, it is simply the headmaster finding some bizarre amusement in what you had just said to him, as if the idea of "personal favorites" was somehow funny enough for him to note-!

Still, in the end, after that -very bizarre- chuckle...

"Of course, I have no intention of holding you here meaninglessly."

    He lets you go.

With those words a tangible pressure leaves the room, and those who had been holding their breath without realizing it suddenly find themselves freed from the shackles of the headmaster's invisible influence... While he hasn't moved to directly interfere with anyone since arriving, there was always an unconscious understanding that anyone that had tried to run would have been stopped more or less instantly by the principal, who has never thought kindly of cowardice, but now that he's made it clear you're free to leave...

    "Oh yeah, breakfast..."

The more casual air returns to the group's chatter...

"That reminds me, weren't your groceries stolen too Sho? Hey! Where did you two-"

---Of course, by the time Nadia remembers the -least important- of their mission objectives and turns in an attempt to see it through to the end, Yoshino has already been spirited away by his demon partner.

    "-put his... stuff?"

    "..."

For a moment there's just silence, then...

"...Sloppy. You let them get away so easily."

The principal rubs salt in the wound a bit, tone of voice back to its usual emotionless monotone.

    ---

"...A lot of it is probably spoiled by now."

Fifteen minutes later, and the group that had decided to make a last desperate search for your stolen groceries appears to be on the verge of just giving up on them. Of course, a part of you had long acknowledged that your groceries were one thing you wouldn't be able to retrieve in the end of this little adventure, and just went along with everyone elses search because it felt wrong to give up before they themselves did, but...

Even though the building is rather empty, there are no bags of food to be found in any of it's many corners. It's a former academy rather than a storage space, and so the only things inside of here are the tech for the old simulator -which Yoshino had probably had to fix- as well as numerous cobwebs and the occasional empty wooden box... Of course, you've only actually searched half the school, but your spirit has probably long since waned in the face of this endless disappointment...

"It's not great... But it might be best to give up. I'm kind of hungry too."

In the end, Nadia says it first.

"Wanna go out to get breakfast somewhere? Jack kinda stabbed us in the back earlier, so I'll have him to pay for it out of his allowance. It'll be a good lesson in being a good person for him."

"...I see the Boss is cruel, hee-ho!"

Of course, for someone like Nadia, simply replacing all of your lost food would probably be a simple task. In comparison to you she's not hurting for money, and she doesn't mind doing that sort of favor for a friend but...

Such a thing would also be an attack on your pride, so she decides this sort of hang-out offer is a bit better, and indeed...

It's a pretty tempting offer, especially because you're pretty sure your food isn't inside of this abandoned school and that it was probably spoiled by now even if it was in what little of the school you hadn't checked...

    But at the same time...

...It felt like giving up on last week's paycheck.

    "..."

Ultimately, whether to persist or not is up to you.

    Aoyama - Abandoned Apartment Complex
    ??? - Morning

---Considering the ward's history, it wasn't exactly uncommon for there to be some abandoned buildings populating the outskirts of town.

While things are just fine nowadays, Aoyama as a whole is a ward with it's share of darkness... More than one supernatural war has taken place within it's limits, with both the "First" and the "Second" Kyuubi incidents serving as particularly major disruptions in the town's otherwise peaceful history. Of course, it is those same incidents that had led to the general "extended family" atmosphere the inhabitants have with each other due to overcoming such things together, but still...

Every now and then, a reminder of that past asserts itself...

And this building feels like one of those, that's the sort of aura it has...

That of a relic of the past.

There's no magi-tech on it's exterior, there's been no attempts to curb the growth of plants beyond the main gate, and the gate itself has begun to rust from close to two decades of neglect. Of course, it's a place that is also hard to find unless one specifically goes out of their way to look for it, it's truly on the outskirts of the normally bustling ward, to the point where it seemed like the city itself ended just a block or two down from here, but...

Even though it had been difficult for even you to find, you had found it nonetheless.

    Why?

...Because Tsukiko had asked if you had known where it was, and as a native to the ward you couldn't just allow a gap in your usually reliable knowledge to exist. Kaguya had had to do a few searches online, and contending with the magic city's habit of subtly changing where streets actually led had been a bit more difficult than usual, but here you were now, and...

"...So it is still standing huh?"

...With you, is the pale-skinned dark-haired girl herself. Finally out of her old school uniform -which had turned out to be an old Aoyama Gakuen Uniform Design- the tall girl was now dressed about as casually as she lived, with a grey hoodie and sweat pants over a white t-shirt, clothes that were painfully generic, but were somehow elevated to the level of 'passable' by the naturally impeccable looks the girl herself possessed...

    Yes...

Dressing lazy certainly seemed to fit her personality... In a lot of ways she was a bum. She didn't have a job, didn't seem to go to school, and while you hadn't seen her do it yourself, you were pretty sure that she just lazed around inside of Isamu's hideout a lot of the time... A mark of the strange friendship the two had seemed to strike as fellow delinquents...

    Yes.

Having decided to wait until Mina returned at the end of the week to do her business, the girl had become something of a sloth, so when the opportunity to make her move around a bit had appeared due to her question it had seemed obvious to take it, thus...

    Here you were...

Still, the question of why she had wanted to come here specifically was also something that might be bothering you, which she seems to realize herself, as she answers it before you can even ask it aloud:

"...I used to live here, a long time ago... Although it looks kinda like a haunted house now..."
