---Bullets made of spiritual power fill the entirety of the corridor.

Out of all the things that had happened to you today, out of every opponent that you have fought over the past few hours, the one whose presence serves as the most terrifying of them all is the lone figure cloaked in white at the end of this ancient hallway. It doesn't bear the naturally frightening visage of the monsters of mud, nor the terrifying stature of the giant, it is simply a lone humanoid standing with Great Sword held aloft in one hand, a warrior of infinite willpower who will see their task through to the end...

    That aura is monstrous.

It's worse than that of the giant, it's cleaner, less polluted with negative emotions, but the clarity of it is like a blade that's already resting on the base of your neck.

As if the release of it's Spirit Power was enough for the body to realize the proximity of death, even though the figure claims it will not kill you, that it will simply wipe away the things it finds inconvenient, your heart shoots into overdrive anyway, and for Alyx...

    It's exactly the same.

    ---She can hear it.

---The sound of her own heart throbbing in her chest.

    It's a warning.

A warning to take this one seriously, because a slip-up might as well be fatal-!

That is why there is no hesitation, the moment the words that mean diplomacy has failed fall from it's lips, she has already unleashed a barrage of spiritual power across the entirety of the corridor; it is not a single wall of reiki, rather some bullets fall ahead while others fall behind so no single breakthrough is done through a karn; a relentless assault that sprays like machine-gun fire as she holds down the triggers of dual guns, and-

"So you choose resistance. That's unfortunate."

    The voice is quiet.

    But it booms.

Booms like the voice of a Deity itself, as it hefts the greatsword up in one arm, and-

Straight ahead, into a wall of hostile magic.

There is no hesitation, no sense for tricks or clever ploys, the moment it had decided to fight, it's path was geared straight towards you regardless of what gets in it's way, an unwavering dash that is accompanied only by a bright silver flash of energy as it propels itself forward relentlessly, but-

    -not recklessly.

While the size of it's blade is monstrous, the speed with which it spins it around itself, deflecting shot after shot, is so perfect that even you can't help but admire it; there is no wasted motion, where a bullet would strike is where that blade comes to meet it, spinning energy away not through magic but sheer skill with the blade, as shots are parried so perfectly they cancel each other out, a refined technique for "crossing space to meet one's opponent" without letting up on their defense, yes-!

---Melee is likely where this fighter shines, thus it seeks to enter that space, even so-!

Hidden amidst the bullets, is a stronger lance of light, and-!

    *Clang*

    It's treated no differently.

The sparks that come with the arc of the holy sword are those that send the holy lance flying into the air above, shattering down as glass-like shards as the monstrous swordsman continues forth, and-

    "Tch-!"

-meets Alyx, who -stepping forward to cover your retreat- is forced to defend herself at close range with her guns-!

    ---One blow.

Or rather, one strike is all it takes to lose them-!

They were not weapons suited to close-range combat from the start, but the spinning of the pistols in her hands to reveal the hilts, thrust upwards to deflect the blade that sought to slash her chest, is a guard that shatters.

It is not a guard that is pierced, no, throwing all of her strength into her arms, she is able to deflect the monstrous one-armed blow of her assailant, blow so strong that a shockwave rips through her body, but she loses her balance in the exchange-!

    "...!"

    A breath hitches in-!

Feet are off the ground, the opponent will be attacking again in but a moment, wrist spinning to realign a strike as Alyx is forced to think on her feet-!

She lets herself fall, back touching the ground, hands shooting to the space behind her, she pushes forward with her hands to deliver two rapid kicks to her opponent's solar plexus, hoping to throw them off balance if nothing else to buy her a second to get back on her feet, but-!

    "Naive, Alyx."

    ---The opponent is unfazed.

While Alyx is a gunner, she is also a martial artist; combine this with training as a sniper and she knows exactly where to target someone to hurt them the most, and yet-!

Completely ignoring the strike, as if the entirety of your sister's physical strength was meaningless to it, the White Shroud grasps her heel and hauls her into the air in but an instant, spinning the blade around in it's hand to strike her in the side with it's hilt -a blow she reflexively blocks with her arms- it throws her into the air afterwards while all of her limbs have gone numb, and-!

    "Ziodyne."

    ---No way to dodge.

A flow of motion, a dance that had taken less than four seconds.

    "GAAAAAAH!"

Screaming from the influx of electricity that rocks her body in mid-air, the silver haired girl falls back behind the Shroud, around spheres of magical energy that have yet to dissipate, body crackling with leftover magic as she tries to get up, but-!

    You can't help her.

You don't have the time to do so, after all-!

The first strike of it's sword is reflected by Tetrakarn, but-!

Carrying the momentum of it's reflection, letting it spin it's body around on it's own, the graceful leg that moves to strike you in the chest knocks you over thirty feet back, air knocked from your lungs as you slide across the ground...

"...Weak. Far too weak to protect anything, but strong enough to let it go to your head, like most of the Tamers back home."

It raises it's blade to the sky.

Lightning strikes it, coating it's edge, and-

"...Half-baked, you're far too peaceful, this is the sort of naive strength that invites disaster. Make sure you can protect yourself before you try to save anyone else."

    -starts to walk towards you.

Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stilled and the actors leave the stage, the story will never truly end.

Regardless of the form it takes, as long as there are memories of it's existence, the story will continue on.

In a small ward in the heart of a once devastated town, life carries on as it always has...

A gasp escaped her lips as she was blown back thirty feet with a single kick. As she struggled to get to her feet, clutching her chest while trying to breathe, one thought dominated her mind.

    Too strong.

This White Shroud is too strong for both of them.

He is too strong, too fast, too precise; in under ten seconds, he had brought both of them to their knees, and if he were to seriously fight with the intent to kill, then both Alyx and herself would have been dead already. The only reason they're still alive were only thanks to the figure's mercy.

    --She couldn't refute his words.

Ten years of experience as a spirit tamer, yet spent only back home. She had never considered herself strong, well aware of how limited her strength is for being so sheltered, but perhaps victories upon victories in doing her mission had subtly went over her head. Perhaps somewhere in her mind, the illusion of strength made her believe that she can save others from overwhelming odds.

    But this White Shroud...

Quote Originally Posted by White Shroud

Rather than pressing his attacks, merely admonished them while coating his blade with lightning. Like a teacher teaching a student or a parent admonishing their children, there's no malice in those words.

Something privileged only to the strong.

"--Why...?" She asked, clenching her hands on her staff as she got back up. "Why?" She asked again, eyes staring at the concealed face of her opponent.

"You could have done so many good things... With that strength, you could have saved so many people... So why do you turn your back on those who ask for your help when you're this strong...?"

The ringing of a bell resounded in the space between worlds.

"It's true that we're weaker than you... not strong enough to protect ourselves from opponents of your caliber... but we're still trying our best to save people who need and ask for help! If you've seen Magatsu, if you've seen that hell, then why... how could your heart not be moved to try to save the people who suffered there? Why do you prevent us from trying to give them a place to call home?! I don't understand-!"

A flare of spiritual power once again burst forth, filled with lament and regret.

After all, there is clearly goodness and kindness in the figure's heart in front of her, and yet he chose the path of a White Shroud.

So she won't give up. Even if realistically she wouldn't be able to defeat this opponent, even if she doesn't have any idea on what to do except to try and try and try by casting spells at the cloaked figure, she wouldn't surrender and let herself be dictated by someone who ignores a cry for help when they're able to do something about it. Besides, no matter the odds, should God wills it then she would be able to find a way-!

Prolonged battle is impossible. Bullet-type spells doesn't work. As Illia cast debilitate on her next spell, the only course of action left for her is clear.

    "Plasmic Fire!"

--It's fine if this doesn't work.

The moment Illia's HEAT resets, is the moment she'd try to end this battle-!

    Turn Action
Turn Action: Plasmic Fire (E), Debilitate

    Bell Charge: 2
    HEAT: 9/10

    Wise Up
    Plasmic Fire
    Rank: E
    Element: Fire
Engulfs a single target in a pale blue blaze that will continuously burn even after the casting, basically ensuring a burn status. Can only disappear if Cosmos wills it, or by a spell of equal or higher rank.

    "..."

To the last provocation, there is next to no response.

Having said what she felt she needed to say, the eyes that followed those words will not allow themselves to be provoked, as the answer she required was a serious one, different from the jabs at her virginity, it's a question that had been asked with the well-being of the demon in mind, and...

---Your words are true, to a degree.

She does not know Kyp, so she cannot say if it was right to try to change it back, or to leave it how it is, however...

Those words open up a fear.

A fear that you don't know either, after all...

This could be your own self-delusion, a way of maintaining what you have because you've lose everything else, even so...

    Even so...

    Even so...

"...Please, I'm forced out of here all the time for pictures."

...In the end, that's all she says about that.

"Jack isn't my assistant anyway, he just drops by from time to time."

Shrugging her shoulders, the woman tosses a different package back to you, -your payment, by the sound and feel of it- and...

"...You can too, if you'd like; I don't mind teaching kids a thing or two... Or Demons, really. If they can behave themselves."

    ...Sympathy.

Just a flash of it, and she turns away soon after, after all...

    She's no saint either...

"People get tired of those that wallow in self pity. Just a note from an adult."

...That's why the message is mixed, you denied her good will and antagonized her for next to no reason, and she's not really going to forget that, but...

That's that, it's just how you are, one way or another, and soon enough you're heading towards the door... But when you get there, and start heading up the stairs...

    "Jack-! What's going on?!"

...Nadia appears at the top of them, summoned by the endless cries of her trouble-making demon; bandages are wrapped around/placed on her arms and stomach in various places, as if covering up lingering wounds that had to be healed the good old-fashioned way, although her fashion sense was otherwise the same as ever, the usual shirt and jeans combo revealing about as much of her abs as always...

    "Oh, Sho?"

When she sees you, she recognizes you immediately, even in the darkness and-

    "Is Jack harassing you again?"

The smile is a bit playful, but...

...Are you even in the mood?

    Eva Ellet
    Hollow Fields, Academy
    World Designation: Revolution
    Noon, Foggy

Even during this last stretch, the entity Eva was fighting against continued to demonstrate a variety of strange abilities. She does not know what to make of them, of it- of what the creature was, or where it came from. It was unlike anything she had ever encountered before, and remained an enigma to its apparent exit. Considering the possibility that others could appear again in the future from beyond the cracks in the sky, it is a worrying level of vagueness and uncertainty.

But staring at the vanishing flames, at least one fact seems to be clear-

    - that the creature is no longer present, and its existence no longer poses a threat. In other words, it is their victory.

She takes a moment to offer thanks, as well as pray that it will not return. Of course, there is one more party to whom credit is due, and turning her attention towards her-

"Hah-! Caught you! Guess things got more exciting then we expected, huh?"

“Yeah. If it wasn’t for your gift, I do not believe things would have gone so smoothly. Thanks, Agatha…”

What was supposed to be a sincere thanks trails off, as a different concern- of possibly even greater importance than the mystery of the enigma from earlier, makes itself apparent to her.

There are, at present, two(?) such individuals(?) to whom that could be addressed. In this case, as both are intended recipients, there is strangely no issue, but that does little to change the weirdness of the situation in her view.

And if she had truly duplicated herself using a COMP… that was a possibility that Eva could not let herself ignore, for a number of reasons.

“That… is still an appropriate means of address, correct...? I am very thankful, but I am a little confused…”

    Raz Stone
    Nagatani Academy (?)
    Morning

    A long silence.

Several members of Avalon exchanged glances. Waiting perhaps, for the punchline.

    It never came.

”Ahahaha...uh...” it seemed that even the legandary verbosity of the knight of song had reached its limits. After trying to force out a reply, the black haired man lifted his pinky and etched into his ear, as if seeking a blockage he didn’t find. “A new world you say? Like not just a different plane but a completely different reality?

”Well, I won’t say that it’s the craziest thing I ever heard but are you sure perhaps there isn’t another expl...

”How long ago?” A fedora clad detective stepped forward and interrupted without preamble.

”Seriously?” Raz looked back, not annoyed per second, but at least perplexed. “You are on board with this? I’m not saying it’s impossible but a magical feat of that level should have been sensed by half of Avalon, I haven’t heard anything suggesting a ritual of that level has been done in years.

”A couple days ago I time traveled flatfoot. No resonance, no foot prints. Believe me, these days it’s possible.”

    ”You what?”

A certain old A.I. grimaced, but elected not to respond.

”When the hell were you gonna tell me?! ...Oh.” Raz said after a moment, a sudden grin interrupting what had appeared to be an angry tirade in mid creation. “Oooooh. Oh. I get it. What, really? ...awesome. The kid is that strong huh?”

the DTG decided to look on the bright side. With raz distracted by the revelation, he had yet to process the fact that he was surrounded by dozens of beautiful young women who likely had never heard one of his songs before. He hoped that continued.

“Listen toots, gotta mark for you, you haven’t had any contact with a strange ashen haired girl have you? ‘Bout yay high?” The DTG extended a hand flat to a bit over his waist. She’s numero uno on what coulda managed the toll. Number two is over there” the old COMP said, jerking his hand towards Raz, who obliging let down the sleeves on one hand, revealing the strange sigil that had gone dormant.

“That there insignia has something to do with connection to a different plane. At least that’s our current theory. We haven’t anything else to offer on it at the moment because the flatfoot blew himself sky high when he tried to use it.

”Right.” Raz stepped in and followed up. “If you have seen the ashen haired girl, or anything like this mark, we will start there.”

it was notable that Raz, despite the fact that he himself had offered no oath the the Burroughs system swearing himself to silence, was still abiding by it. It seemed pretty clear that he considered his word given and honor demanded because the DTG, his COMP, had so sworn.

”If you guys don’t know nothing about either, then I’m afraid we have a bit of a scavenger hunt to get to. Because that essentially means that a crazy mad scientist did something crazy and mad scientist-y and we all have to scrub this school from top to bottom to figure out where he was when he cast the Magic’s that put him to presumably wherever you came from and brought y’all here.”

“Maybe… maybe a little… but…” At some point during the older girl’s explanation, Hyakka’s cheeks had puffed up in an undeniable, unmistakable pout. The eyes of the younger girl turned to the side, as if to look away from her own immaturity, because on the inside she knew what this was really about.

A part of her felt that it was correct of her to ask. The other part said to let it go.

The devil and angel perched atop her two shoulders fought a fierce battle, and the girl’s hands came together. The tips of her two index fingers rubbed against each other, wiggling about as she mentally wiggled her way toward saying what was on her mind.

    “It’s not that it’s too flashy…”

Inch by inch, step by step.

That’s right. It’s unfair, isn’t it? That the choice was never given to her… To stand out as a hero, that kind of swimsuit would pull her apart from the crowd. She would stick out, in the good way, just like Kaori-senpai. So it was only right for her to question the unfairness of it all.

That’s right, she has her own dream too. Hyakka Onjouji has the right to pursue her ambitions!

Those thoughts guided her as she opened her lips.

“But why is it inappropriate for me, but not for you…?”

Lips which opened to ask the question on her mind.

    "..."

A pause, as the cloaked figure is berated by the you.

Certainly, it is a terrible thing that someone so strong -but clearly possessing some form of lingering morality- would act in so bizarre a fashion when it comes to existing as a Spirit Tamer... Those who take on that title should be those that seek to protect humanity as a whole, whether it be their own or one in some far-off land, another dimension entirely, the concept of what it means to be a Tamer is something that should be steadfast, and yet...

    Why?

When asked for it's motivation, it takes the Shroud a moment to answer, as if some part of it was hesitating, or deliberating on what it wants to say, then-

    "For my home's sake."

-it says, bluntly, as it casually disregards the spell you had fired it's way, walking pace continuing onwards as it casually sidesteps the whirling mass of flame-!

"It is a terrible thing yes, to leave the damned to their damnation... But to get involved with the "King of Ruin," is a mistake... Xanadu would attempt to help, but the attempt would open the cage on a monster, and that monster would find it's way through to us as a curse. Considering the circumstances, we cannot afford enemies on that many sides."

It speaks cryptically but decisively, but what it says next is what truly comes across as odd, yes...

"If you want another reason... Then I suppose you could say I'm also doing this for your sake. You will not understand why, nor will you accept why, but it is certainly the truth of the matter."

...It claims to be doing it for you.

---In the distance, a stunned Alyx remains so, lightning erupting over her body everytime she so much as twitches, the shroud close enough now that the shrieking sound of electricity was erupting in your ears, and-

"If 'she' wakes up, I will have to kill you. So it is better that I put an end to all of this before something like that happens..."

    -sounds strangely... melancholic...

As it lifts it's blade -slowly- to strike...

Cosmos Fairchild listened intently to what the White Shroud has to say. Even as he approached her slowly but surely - ignoring the E-ranked Plasmic Fire that she cast on him - Cosmos listened. Because if nothing else, she had always been a good listener, and if there is a chance to understand the figure who stood before her - if there is the slightest chance that this could still be resolved peacefully - then as Mary's daughter, she'd always try to take it.

To his logic, the rational reason why he is against her and Alyx, she acknowledged. She doesn't agree, nor does she accept it, but she quietly acknowledged the reasoning behind his action. That they would indeed never see eye-to-eye.

    However...

It was as if time is stopped.

Cosmos looked at the approaching figure, now close enough that the sound of lightning from his blade is constantly erupting in her ears, yet she doesn't take notice. She's not looking at his sword, the lightning around his blade, or even Alyx.

No, what she's looking at - what she's trying to look at - is the person beneath the shroud.

For a moment, it was as if she knew this person. The melancholy, the tone, the words - it was as if it stirred something buried deep within herself that she had long forgotten. Not as Cosmos "Fairchild," but as Cosmos--

    "Cosmos, focus!"

The shout of her usually quiet AI, coupled with the sound of Illia refreshing its HEAT back to zero, brought her back to the real world. Out of instinct and training, recognizing the chance that might not present itself for a second time, Cosmos rang her staff and dashed back, trying to put as much distance between her, the White Shroud, and Alyx as much as possible to avoid getting her sister caught in the crossfire.

    '...Ready, Illia?'

There's no malice, disdain, or even determination in those words; only a sense of longing, and perhaps a quiet acceptance and resignation.

Illia chose not to comment on it.

'I've been ready for a long, long time.'

A quick, short and silent prayer is recited before the staff is aimed at the approaching blade of the church. Cosmos has always imagined that her first time in using Endless Nova would be for something grand, a battle where she must pour every bit of her spiritual energy and willpower. Even just a few moments ago, that assumption remained true.

    But now--

    "Endless Nova."
    "Plasmic Fire."

She buried her sense of longing, her desire for answers, and the stirring memories that's just beginning to awaken with a brilliant explosion of holy light and azure flames.

    Turn Action
Spells Used: Endless Nova, Plasmic Fire (B)
    Bell Charge: 0
    HEAT: 8/2

    Wise Up
    Endless Nova
    Bless
    B-Ranked Spell
Triggers an explosion of holy light that completely ravages and devastates a certain area with no regards to friend or foe. A spell of mass destruction that Cosmos hopes to never use, created thanks to a feeling that if her mother were to fight, then surely it would be with a spell of absolute light that overwhelms everything. Incidentally, Cosmos herself will get caught in the blast, and designing it as a bless-type spell - which she is only strong against - is a deliberate choice as to not accidentally null or absorb the spell.

    ---A deluge of magical energy.

One could not call it a graceful strategy... In comparison to the White Shroud's purposeful, practiced steps, you gather up as much of your energy as you soul can manifest, body screaming in protest from a strain that is far beyond what you are used too, the reality of pulling forth -ripping out- enough spiritual power from both yourself and Ilia to bring forth not just one Mythic Class Phenomena...

    But two.

Two in rapid succession, so close that they might as well have been fired at the same time; of course it is distinctly two spells, one cannot invoke "fusion phenomena" alone under most circumstances, as the energy signature of one's COMP is too close in nature to the User to get the 'spike' in power that comes from the mixing of two different forms of Reiki, but even if they were cast apart, even if they are really two different spells that simply happen to be exploding out towards your opponent at the same time...

It is still a deluge of magic, like a tsunami of spiritual force that had fired without preamble, out of desperation and without true preparation-!

"Two-?! Not just the Bell Charge?!"

---Perhaps that is why it is surprising, typically speaking, the 'investment' that comes with the use of this level of magic requires that one weaken their opponent first before using it... It would be a waste to discharge so much power into an opponent that would suddenly avoid it through clever use of lower level magics, and so most fights have a tendency to 'rise' in tension as they go on, both sides poking at the defenses of the another enough to figure out their style, their strengths and weaknesses, and how best to ensure that one can land their finishing blow, but this...

This was self-destruction, an acceptance of blowing oneself away along with the opponent, so long as that means that they won't escape the radius of the attack...

    It's brazen.

Overly so, almost fanatically so, and combine that with this being an "unexpected move" to begin with, something so reckless that even a brand new Tamer would think it unwise, and-

    "...!"

-in a flash, a blink of the opponent's eyes, that mass of two grand magics is on it's form.

---There is no time to prepare a proper defense; considering it had enchanted it's blade earlier -and had maintained that enchantment- the idea that it could oppose power with power is unthinkable, it would overheat it's COMP in the process of trying to match you head on, and dodging...!

    It didn't move.

Almost as if in shock, as if truly surprised by exactly how reckless you were being, the Shroud had frozen in place for a moment as the magics had closed in on it's body, reflexes failing to fire properly as it looks around and realizes that nowhere on this walkway will be safe, that this is truly a wave that will engulf everything -possibly even Alyx as well- the Shroud does something bizarre, yes...

    "D-Damn it!"

---Spiritual Power erupts, not from it's COMP, but from it's body.

Reiki fashioned into the form of a spell that surpasses traditional finishers, the peak of rate-able magic, the realm in which laws of reality truly begin to be torn apart, a step away from those fabled magics that truly do the "impossible," those that cannot be compressed into formulas, or reached through things like simple training, yes-!

This power is instinctive, it's the power of the person inside the suit, and...

    ---It's not a human power.

-----It's not a human power at all.

    "REIMYAKU!"

    ---Light of the
    Soul Sea
    Divine
    surges forth-

-and everything is washed away, including your own self-!

    But...

    Somehow...

---When the blast is over, when the flowing magics have come to dissipate, disappearing into the darkness of an eternal void as they appear in this hallway of "nothing," you are able to push yourself back up onto your feet, up onto shaking limbs, and-

    "...Hah...Hah..."

-your opponent too, remains standing where they were, having endured the onslaught of seemingly limitless light-!

    Will - 5

    No...

    No...

    Endure was the wrong word...

---It hadn't touched that person at all, the magic it had used had been some form of "defensive ability," of course things like the Karns typically fall to mythic class magics, as do any number of mundane magical defenses, but-

    -it was not mundane.

Light that had appeared had been the same light as that which protects the Soul Sea, the Divine Light of the Guardian Goddess of humanity, and yet-

    "Ha...gah...!"

    -it can't be her.

The obvious physical pain the shroud is in through use of it's magic does not fit the Goddess of Humanity who never shows weakness, no, it is a shaking pain of a shaking body, one that the shroud forces back with sheer willpower after a few seconds, and-

"I... Won't lose. I don't care what you throw at me, I've... Gotta do this-!"

-the speech gets less formal, as the White Shroud moves closer to who it actually is...

Alyx gets up, an electrified body running up to grab the Shroud from behind, but-

---For you, this battle might as well be over.

COMP pushed to the limit, it seems like this is as far as you can really go with the level of your opponent, and-

    ---can't see.
    ---can't see.
    ---can't see.
    ---can't see.
    ---can't see.
    ---can't see.
    ---can't see.
    ---can't see.

Your head starts to hurt as the world begins to fade out...

Like a migraine, or someone just hammering on it from the inside with a sledgehammer, and-

    'Hey.'

-a voice appears, it's like your own, but not really.

    Not really.

    'Hey'

    Not really.

    'Hey'

    Not really.

    'Let me fight.'
    'Let me fight'
    'Let me fight'
    'Let me fight'
    'Let me fight'
    'Let me fight'
    'Let me fight'
    'Let me fight'

It pounds, it pounds, it pounds away at her head, rattling her brain, dizzying her vision, making her ears go deaf as it no longer able to hear anything but the pounding in her head, and it hurts, it hurts so much that she just wanted it to stop, to fall to the gentle embrace of unconsciousness and let Illia take over--

    But it's not Illia.

Illia's tone is more gentle. There is a certain softness and fondness underlying her words whenever the AI spoke to her, even when teasing or joking around, while this new voice... doesn't. It is far stronger, bolder, tempting her to follow their word and leave everything to them.

    It is a tempting offer.

Even if Illia said that she's ready, Cosmos Fairchild would never let her partner be destroyed by forcibly casting a spell when she's already overheated; she could no longer fight, casting Endless Nova and a B-ranked Plasmic Fire were her gamble, her only hope to defeat this enemy, and it failed.

At this rate, both she and Alyx will get their memories erased.

She doesn't want that. She had experienced memory loss before, and she doesn't want to experience it for a second time. She wants - she has to - return home safely.

If she let the voice take over, there is little doubt in her mind that she really can - and will - break the person before her.

    --She lurched forward.

One step at a time, dragging her feet to the White Shroud.

    --It hurts.

    --Make it stop.

    --I've tried my best.

--It's okay to give up sometimes, right?

    She lurched forward.

One step at a time, dragging her feet to the woman - the
    Sword of the Messiah
    Sword of the Church
    .

She doesn't know why or how she suddenly knew the White Shroud is a woman, nor does she care. It doesn't matter. What matters is that she has to convince her to stand down and let both herself and Alyx go.

    "Let us go."

She could no longer hear anything, not even her own voice. her vision is blurry. All that she could see and hear are static and the voice in her head, but she pushed forward against the current, against a sudden deluge of the presence of someone much more powerful than she is.

--She wondered what Alyx is doing right now. Trying to tackle the woman despite her wounds, most likely. She has to stop her.

--She wondered if Illia is frantically speaking in her mind, or perhaps trying to cast a healing spell despite doing so will break her. Almost on reflex to such thoughts, she deactivated her COMP, turning it back to a rosary.

--She wondered if mother is waiting for her back home.

    ...Of course she is.

Yes, her mother is certainly waiting for her back home.

    That's why...

She has to come back as Cosmos Fairchild.

"Let us go." She repeated the words, words that she could no longer hear, but one she tried to make. She looked at the shrouded woman with gentle eyes, at least she tried to, but she doesn't know how whether she succeed. She doesn't even know if she is heard.

But she clung to her sense of self like a lifeline. She tried her hardest to hold on to what little remains at this moment, and formed words with trembling lips and a will on the verge of breaking.

"If you don't... You will have to face Preciel."

"I'll keep that offer in mind."

With that last exchange, our conversation is over. Things could have gone a lot smoothly had I been a little more considerate, but again my attitude has only served to distance myself from others. Maybe a part of me wanted this to happen from the very start, to push others away from my life so they wouldn't get involved with me. Perhaps, that's just for the best. It doesn't make it any less painful, though...

After a moment of weakness, I take a deep breath and steel my heart once more.

    I don't need her sympathy. I honestly don't.

But I may come back here soon enough. I wouldn't exactly hate becoming a mad scientist for a day or two. And If I can snatch a part-time job, that would help me increase my monthly income. In the end, that's the heart of the matter. I won't do this because of anything she said, I have just seen an opportunity pass in front of my eyes and I'll take it. That's how it is and that's how it'll always be. It's the kind of life I live.

Just as I am about to leave, someone else arrives at the top of the stairs.

When I hear that voice, I recognize its owner immediately.

"...? ... Nadia? What are you doing h-? No, nevermind. It's obvious at this point."

That little devil! I can't believe Jack actually called Nadia here over something so trivial! On a second thought, I should have foreseen something like this would happen. But, ultimately, I can't say I am not caught off guard by the girl's sudden appearance. So much so, I almost subconsciously throw the ball back to her court immediately.

"Forget about me." I say, as my expression turns into a frown. "What have you been doing? You are all covered in bandages. If you are still recovering, you should've stayed at home."

That line might have come as rather bossy or cold. Maybe with it I am trampling all over her personality. But if there is something that bothers Amamiya Sho more than an oppressive and hypocritical system forged by irresponsible adults, it has to be this precise image. Because, while I can muster enough strength to swallow my pride about the former -at least, occasionally-, seeing someone from my inner circle hurt bothers me to no end.

I know it's Nadia, I know the kind of dangerous activities she's always up to. Believe me: I know. But just as I am aware I cannot change who she is, I am certain I cannot change this part of me, either. So, gently leaving the box on the ground, I prepare myself for some pious interrogation regarding what chain of events led her to being like this. After all, if I remember correctly, the last incident in which we were involved together shouldn't have left any real injuries behind.

Before that, however, a word of advise from your sponsor:

"Don't go picking any fights, okay?"

    Funny, coming from me.

"...To be fair, I didn't exactly pick the fight-!"

---Ultimately, those words are the first ones that emerge in response to your automatic questioning of her injuries, words that aren't entirely convincing, considering the person saying them...

    Yes.

Nadia Starr is technically the sort of person that picks fights, at least, so long as one looks at it in a certain way...

Having built up much of her fame as a Formula-Zero Racer, her experience as a Tamer was lacking in comparison to her experience on the track... She had excellent natural abilities of course, good enough to quality at all four of the Major Tamer Organizations, but there was still a certain sense of inexperience that clung to the girl that made it clear she was still very much a student, a brawler with a strong sense of justice that had happened to "stumble" into the Tamer life purely by accident, yes...

---She had an innate desire to help others, this desire typically manifested as her taking the side of those she saw as being "mistreated," of course she was also the banchou type, so the act of her "taking a side" tended to come across as somewhat aggressive to the opposition, and well...

    Bam.

A girl who was willing to get in fights with strangers to help not just her friends but also complete strangers, in essence, she's the naturally heroic type through and through, hot-blooded and passionate when things get serious-!

    That's why...

When she says she didn't pick the fight...

It's a bit natural to do some friendly doubting, after all, she may have done just that completely by accident, but-

"There was some weird guy inside the Formula Zero Simulator... Not sure what he was trying to do, but I got a bad feeling from him, so I went to see what his deal was... He was like some sort of hacker?"

-this time it seems that really wasn't the case.

"Can't remember too much of it, but I'm pretty sure he rushed me at some point and we wound up fighting... Took a few curses here and there, and they dragged me into the Xanadu Labs to get em removed after they shut all the servers down to investigate... The wounds were sort of a pain, but I'm doing alright, been hurt way worse than this before-!"

---Of course, that is likely a lie.

In Aoyama, the wounds of humans seem to heal naturally...

It's a consequence of the abundance of ambient Reiki in the air, or -if you believe the rumors- the fact that the city was apparently built right over the heart of the "Soul Sea," and was thus a place naturally attuned to supporting humans...

A curse strong enough to have to go out of one's way to receive medical treatment for... Must have been a hell of a curse...

A certain senpai at school had been crippled by something like that, but it seems Nadia was doing alright in comparison to that woman...

    Still...

Having received your payment earlier, your steps -steps to lightly pursue someone that had tried to get out of this interrogation- are steps that seem to have naturally led themselves to the grocery store, of course it is not the usual one, but the massive sign screaming "50% Off Produce," was one that naturally drew those struggling school students to it...

Not that Nadia was struggling financially mind you, if anything...

    "How about you?"

The girl was loaded, but it seems she intended to do some shopping herself...

Still, with a disappointed Jack -he seemed to have been hoping she would beat you up- looking away from you on her shoulder with a huff, the woman ultimately looks back at him as she finishes her story, before turning her gaze back to you as if seeking to get to the bottom of it...

"What'd you and Jackie fight about anyway? You can tell me, I'll ground him if he was being an ass."

...At those words, Jack's head turns...

And an unsettling... Smile... Crosses that face...

    Yes...

    Both mischievous... And unsettling...

...As if pondering if he should repeat his violation of the "men code" a second time...!

    "...Join in?"

The words you leave the silver-haired girl with are words that leave her deep in contemplation... It was clear just from looking at her that she was not the sort capable of keeping up with these sorts of beings...

Even so, you encourage her to try it again in your own way, even as you dart off after the fairies yourself-!

    "Ah! It's Daisuke!"

"As if you could catch us~"

"Where's that Tamer of yours? She making you buy groceries again?!"

---Naturally, being repeat offenders, they just roll with things as they happen, some of them calling out to you by name, as if remembering you from a past that is not too distant...

    Yes.

Fairies are certainly carefree... Naturally mischievous and cheerful, the concepts of good and evil do not seem to mean much to them, they simply do as they like whenever they like, and as a result, are those that can't really be 'hated' even by those they mess with, after all...

It's a very childish mindset, and-

    Up.

    Up.

    Up-!

Legs that send you bounding into the sky with explosive force, against the wings of the tiny demons, and---

There's definitely a lot of them, and the coordination is something else-!

A storm of dozens of spheres of light, passing the necklace back and forth amongst themselves in bursts of magical energy... There are times when you close in and they simply charge upwards as fast as they can, the reality of flight versus superhuman physiology slowly becoming apparent as you eventually run out of momentum before really getting up at them as they laugh amongst themselves in the sky, landing back down on the treetops below and-

    "...Okay. I'll join in."

-saying this quietly the silver-haired girl lands right next to you.

"...It's sort of cheating, but I modified my body. I can jump better now."

She says this casually, as if it wasn't something absurd, then...

"...I recruited one more person too, the tall girl said she was having fun just watching, so..."

    "Somehow, I am here!"

...Someone else lands at your other side, namely...

    History.

Not as a mass-less hologram, or even in a robot body, no...

    It was definitely...

    A tangible physical body...?

"This girl is really something else! Waved her hands a bit and here I am!"

    And much like Lexie...

History takes this fact pretty casually, all things considered...

    "Hah... hah... hah..."

The soft grass makes for an easy landing. Daisuke's latest leap was the highest yet, during which he almost reached the necklace... but his mid-air maneuverability on its own just isn't enough. Chris has said as much, mumbling something about needing to look for additional propulsion, and it shows here, where despite being on-par with the fairies physically, he simply can't reach them in the air. So, he jumps and lands, and jumps and lands.

    "Haaaaaah..."

He isn't breathing for oxygen. Daisuke is simply taking advantage of the available exhaust port to vent excess heat from his internal engine is all! He's not fatigued or discouraged in the slightest! Even if it looks like he might regret his decision! He can totally keep going, except...

"You... you were actually paying attention all those times, weren't you!?"

Pointing a finger skywards, he accuses the fairies of a crime more heinous than any he's tried to bring them in for.

"If you can learn my movements like that after being chased so many times, then at least learn what 'unjust appropriation' means!"

Why do Fairies only remember irritating things, like how to dodge his approach!? Even if he can sorta understand their priorities, there's just no way the responsible COMP can figure out how those Demons think! Which is not boding well for his attempt to recapture the necklace. It might become a battle of attrition... can he last until they get bored and their movements slow down? Daisuke's motor is well-optimized, but he wasn't built for endurance and Chris isn't nearby to reinforce him, so...

"H-huh? Oh, you wanna help out? Alright, then that doubles our power!"

Daisuke doesn't know her capabilities, but it's always good to have a partner. Even so, with just the two of them, and even if she can modify her body to increase her parameters somehow... it's difficult. Yes, rather than mere statistical power, they need a way to match the unparalleled coordination and mastery of the air displayed by the Fairies. As is, even a Tamer and COMP would have trouble getting that necklace back. Perhaps if Chris were there to cast Spider's Web and restrict their movements, but then that would be more of a battle than a game...

Just then, once more, another push-!

Now that is a surprise indeed. Something that would, and indeed is raising several alarm bells in the young COMP's head. Manifesting a COMP in physical form is normally something that takes a permanent terminal or a high-powered temporary spell, but it seems to have been done casually here.

Daisuke looks at those alarms, reviews them, and... puts them on snooze.

Later. He'll think about unimportant stuff later. Right now they have a necklace to catch.

"Now that you're here, there's a chance, History-chan! With the three of us..."

Three. Three is the number. The number that makes victory possible in this game, even without a Tamer's support.

For a moment, Daisuke turns once more to the fairies, and... forms a 'T' with his arms.

"Time out! Take a minute to rest those wings! Then I'll lock you all right up!"

Turning back to the two newcomers, he quickly draws them into a huddle. This was how you did it, right? During a
    Timed Raid
    team effort
, you have to coordinate first...

    "Daisuke."

First, he offers a thankful smile to the tall girl, and then he straightens his crooked tie and antenna. And then...

"That's my name. O-or, you can call me Bright Justice... Now, those fairies might seem overpowered and unfair, but that's no problem. They're definitely no match! Against an opponent like that, we stand no chance going off on our own, but if we work together... what do you think, everyone?"

Against a bunch of scatterbrained Fairies, it's obvious that strategy is the great equalizer. Bonds can only be severed by other bonds, with the power of cooperation!

    The time for
    Survival Strategy
    ideas and planning
    has begun!

    Ludwig Karlfeldt
Depths of a Dream, Deeper Still
    ??? - Night

---Even in the face of a Divine Monster, you retain a trained sense of inner calm; born from many years as a Tamer, as a human that has stepped forth to retain the balance of the supernatural and the mundane, to protect the peace of a world that some may even call "experimental-!"

It does not matter if the beast is faster than you.

It does not matter if it is stronger than you.

It does not matter if it has dragged you into a world of extreme cold, a reflection of ice at it's strongest, a deep-set chill that causes even your soul to shiver, your essence sensing the presence of a magic antithetical to it's own existence, a 'crack' in the engine called one's soul-!

    It doesn't matter.

If you can't see it, make it go where you want-!

---For that, there is no need to move, simply wait for a chance to counter.

A circle of around ten meters, the only place where sight can exist; while the spiritual senses would ordinarily come to the fore in this sort of confrontation, the sheer amount of spiritual power present in the world around you serves as a dampener for the stronger signal of the wolf, or rather...

The entire world around you feels like that wolf does, this is only natural, as this storm of ice and snow was born from within it's own self-! This is not bizarre, this is a reality that comes with spells on this level, no, what's more concerning than that is that it's mind is just as difficult to find as it's body... You are not sure of the mechanism behind it, but sight of your target was often necessary to truly being to 'reach' into their thoughts, thus...

The wolf's refusal to appear is perfectly rational, of course one could spin this as cowardice, but thinking about it...

---If it does think of itself as superior, then the words of a human are meaningless to it.

    Just noise.

What you say, what you think, doesn't matter in the slightest-!

An ant crushed is an ant proven wrong, no matter how calm and decisive it acted prior to it's death, and-

    And-!

    And-!

    "...!"

    -It comes-!

    ...Just as expected.

    Magic flows.

Speed that far surpasses your own, the strength of a colossal giant whose frame you only get a glimpse of, like a bullet train emerging right from the edge of one's vision, but...

    But...

    But...

Magic carries you out of it's path.

Magic too, descends in a sphere of
    gradient
    colorless
    force.

---After all, now was the time to strike.

While the storm made it difficult for your senses to pinpoint it's movements, you are able to sense them the instant it comes within this 'ten meter' radius; it's not much time admittedly, but a Tamer can make it work.

---It had come at you from above, in essence, crush you not just with it's strength, but with it's colossal weight...

This was likely because of your endurance, in sharp contrast to your strength, Ludwig Karlfeldt was certainly a Tamer that could take a beating... No, not just that, your existence was also that of an ESPer, a being that some might call 'ascended,' a possible physical and spiritual evolution point for humanity, where a link to 'that place' is actively maintained, and-!

---If what you are looking for is a chance to strike, then this is the best one you'll get.

Thinking this being will ever give you an attack with a truly glaring opening is naive thinking, the most you'll get is this fraction of a second, the moment where the force of the body is being pushed down rather than ahead, it-!

Is caught up in an explosion of
    monochrome
    prismatic
    force-!

Of course, it is not enough to swallow the entirety of it's body.

The world certainly shrieks at the appearance of the Almighty, but...

This is not the full output.

A blast of power that rocks the right side of the body, the howl of a massive wolf seems to betray pain, pain that seems to egg it on more than anything else, a snarling monstrosity appearing in your vision just as fast as you had escaped it, but-!

You were prepared for that too.

If it pursues, it will likely do so in a straight line, coming straight at you like a monster should, and...

That makes it easier to hit.

Rather than an explosion of colorless force, you pour Reiki into your fist -easier to aim and launch- and-

    ---Stop.

Time slows down as you attempt to process the world in front of you.

    ---You stopped.

Not out of any sense of mercy, but simply because your 'sixth sense' had told you to do so... Your physical strength might be lacking, but in this you rarely were, a combination of knowledge granted from one's soul and your own subconscious, an instinctive "gut" feeling that all spirit users hone to the best of their capability... Not something that always gives a concrete answer, but a nudge in the 'proper' direction, yes...

    ---Don't shoot, it's a waste of energy.

    ---Something isn't right.

    Yes.

    You can see it now.

While the entity that had appeared to you had seemed like the real thing in all regards, had taken the brunt of an almighty spell with the vitality befitting a pseudo-divine opponent, you only realize as it closes in...

    That that's not the enemy.

    Not at all.

    After all...

It's body is already flaking away to dust, like a destroyed spiritual construct or illusion-?! Ordinarily, you would be able to tell a fake apart from the original rather easily through use of your ESP, but-!

The storm was interfering, everything around you felt like it 'belonged' to the entity, an overwhelming mass of magic that made it difficult to sense when 'spells' were being prepared within it-!

This was it's world, that might even be literal, considering how this might all be happening inside of it's own head, yes-!

By the time you realize you've been tricked in some way, that the 'arrogant' wolf had known the 'proper' method of countering it's own approach and had manipulated you right back...

---It's too late to avoid the blow from behind, because of course-

-that is where the real one is now.

    You fly.

Bouncing across the ground, slamming through a line of trees that would have left you dazed and gasping for air if you were not who you were, it still takes some effort to rise even when you know a follow up attack is coming, a victorious howl and thudding footsteps that shake the planet like an earthquake as a shadow breaks through the storm into your personal space, a monstrous wolf of golden eyes and gaping maw, and yet-

    And yet-

    And yet-

"...I see. So that's what is going on, amusing game I suppose, but unacceptable. The boy is one of my subordinates."

A familiar -if surprising- voice pierces through the cold with unsurprising authority...

Like some of the older self had leeched into the younger...

    ==Legacy Armament:
    First Fetter
    Leyding
    ==

As chains ensnare a colossal wolf... Chains that wind themselves around the charging body before glowing brightly as they seem to 'settle' in place, the chains of a weapon that is certainly not a COMP digging into the flesh, and-

    "Lagerkvist-! You again!"

    Fenrir AGI reduced to B-!

-turning it's back to you, in pursuit of a woman whose figure you can't see in the storm...

    But who certainly seems...

To have somehow broken her way into this place...

    ---For her, not entirely impossible.

    Fenrir

    Innate Skill

    -Soul Eater-
Ability to gain certain powers by devouring others. Further information is unknown.

    Spells

    -Double Chase-
Ability to create a hollow physical clone of oneself, while ordinarily a physical image that should shatter easily, it seems the user is able to freely manipulate which of their 'selves' is the real one, creating illusions that are not truly illusions and thus appear real until they are not, although [...]

Not an ability Fenrir possesses from Myth, but rather one gained from it's devouring and assimilation of a separate entity entirely...

    Ludwig Karlfeldt
Depths of a Dream, Deeper Still
    ??? - Night

In that blizzard stood a single human figure, ready to take on the arrogant beast that roamed its snowclad hunting grounds. However, the human was mistaken, as the beast was not the one that was arrogant.

No, the arrogant one here was Ludwig. Merely having power is not enough to stand in this world of divinities. Deep down he knew this. The realm of divinities and the truly powerful, Adala, Fenrir, Loki, he did not belong there.

    --Not yet anyway.

Believing himself to be able to set the pace and make a God go along with his plans had been his mistake. The Divine Beast has hunted down prey and foes long before Ludwig had even been born. It’s only natural that it knows how to excel in its field and overcome a mere human’s fancy fantasy.

If you can't see it, make it appear where you want.

If you can't overpower it in strength, don't get hit.

If you can't outpace it speed, predict where it'll go.

Fenrir denied every single one of these teachings in one attack.

    --But that does not matter.

Ludwig soared through the storm, hitting ice and rock until his body came to a stop through a collision of trees. The strike was strong enough that the ESPer needed a moment of reprieve. Even with a body honed and strengthened by the ruthless training of the Karlfeldts and later that of Adala Lagerkvist, the strike of a God is not one so easily shrugged off.

    --But that does not matter.

No, it does not matter how many times one falls, or how much more powerful the obstacle that stands before you is. All that matters, that truly matters, is that you stand up once more.

Never give up, never give in.

A cruel lesson to teach, but certainly one worth learning.

And so, with some effort Ludwig rises again. The storm remains, hiding it’s master without fail. But a follow up attack is coming, instinctively Ludwig knows this.

And the devouring wolf approaches, the incoming beast signals itself with the release of a victorious howl. The ground shakes, the storm grows more intense, and the winds that protect the Karlfeldt from the storm meet the gigantic monster that looks upon its prey.

The Divine Beast’s golden eyes meet a look of defiance.

And as power quickly courses through the Tamer’s arm to once more try to blast this monstrosity, his gut once more tells him to wait.

There is someone else out there...

And in response to that instinct--

    Quote Originally Posted by Adala

    --she appears.

    "A-Adala!"

The legendary Commander of the SLEIPNIR, seemingly returned to her former, or rather her old self.

The presence of her alone here is enough to bolster hope in Ludwig, and without betraying that feeling--

--Something else comes flying. Chains pierce the impenetrable blizzard and take hold of the Celestial wolf, as if myth is manifesting itself before Ludwig’s eyes.

And given the name, it’s likely that that is the exact case here.

    Quote Originally Posted by Fenrir

While Ludwig feels relief, Fenrir almost certainly feels anguish. The appearance of Adala is enough to make it turn it’s back on Ludwig and---

    ---did it make a mistake?

While the wolf had certainly shown itself to be the better between the two, Ludwig was certainly not yet defeated. The blizzard encroaches the galing winds as it continues to torment the ESPer’s senses.

    The enemy is stronger.

    The enemy is faster.

The enemy’s storm far exceeds your own.

    The enemy can’t be detected.

    This enemy, is beyond you.

    A human can’t stand against a God.

    --None of that matters.

    ......

The Lagerkvist family knows many branch families. Each of these Dark Summoner families seek to join the head family, and with it gain the recognition and status befitting of a Lagerkvist. Currently the Lagerkvist family houses only three members: Elizabeth, Adala, and the recent addition of Adala’s little brother Klaus.

However the competition to join this family is constantly at play between the branch families. Power is sought out by each one. Many of them are strong on their own, many of them seek to inherit the SLEIPNIR that Adala holds, and many more are willing to do inhuman or unforgivable deeds to reach the head family. Each family has their own ways and ideas of what’s needed in order to accomplish that goal.

Amongst these branch families is the Karlfeldt family. They too have their own ways of going about their goal. However, unlike the other families that seek power for power’s sake or crave the SLEIPNIR ship and the many mysteries that it stores, what the Karlfeldts seek is something else. What they seek, is the realization of their ideal.

The unification of humanity through mind and soul. A human that is the representation of Life.

    Not a Demon, not a Divinity, not a Messiah…

What the Karlfeldts seek to create, is a Champion of Humanity. A human that can harness mankind’s infinite potential, and carry the hopes of those that are, and those that have been.

And Ludwig, the Inheritor of the Karlfeldts, has also inherited that ideal.

    ......

The wolf switches it’s focus towards the Commander, and within that moment…

    Lydia!

    Ready!

    Harmony that cannot be overcome
    "UNITY’S EMBRACE!"

    Almighty Magic surges forth-!

    However, something isn’t right…

Fimbulwinter, an event that belongs to the great devouring wolf of myth -the storm that has been protecting and shielding Fenrir and denied Ludwig of his senses- is being devoured itself.

Within an instant, the galing winds expand, channeling and consuming the Fimbulwinter itself. The magic from the area is being sucked away, taken in by an Almighty maelstrom.

And the one that stands within its centre, unifying energies and harnessing the magic of the great Wolf God with his own…

...has shifted from the hunted, to the hunter.

    "Yes, that is our name!"

    "Yes, that is our name!"

...The nature of that answer, of two different -but the same- voices saying the same thing at the same time, really drives in the point of how bizarre an existence this person might be...

It's not unthinkable that an A.I could take on her appearance of course, but newly born A.I aren't typically this articulate, not only that, the Plume of Dusk that existed within your body was essentially your soul... There had been no obvious installation of a second plume -at least not one that you can recall- and your systems don't seem to think that there's anything particularly different about your hardware, in other words...

    It's an oddity.

    Bizarre phenomena.

Something that gets more and more confusing the more you think about it-!

"As for your confusion... I only sort of understand the process myself!"

A cheerful declaration of something questionable-!

"I have always been good at making things! Mundane things, magical things, fusions of conceptual entities-! Of course, making a COMP core was a bit of a difficult task, and I do not have the 'plumes' you use for them, so I made something similar to it out of my current memories, and installed it via magic while you were fighting... As this is not me harming anyone, it is an action I am allowed to take-!"

So saying, the woman begins to descend back towards the distant ground, the world that seems made up of little more than a single country...

    Down...

    Down...

Towards a place where kids are running out to wave at you as you descend, a place where a somewhat lazy angel is waiting, a place that's...

Still covered in a thick fog...

Where no one seems to be panicking about the former cracks in the sky, and...

"So both she and I are "Agatha," it is much like a reflection of myself-! You can talk to her whenever you like, and it will be the same as talking to me!"

    A pause, then...

"Unless... That's not okay with you...? Is it weird...?"

    Logan Starbright
    Aoyama, Tokyo (F-Zero Course)
    ???

    ---Light falls.

In the face of an attack that you cannot stop with your current power, your current self, you chose to face that fact head on in spite of the insanity of the task. Power thrums throughout your limbs as an insane amount of Reiki is drawn forth from your soul, drawn forth and etched into a formula that served as your "trump card," the beginnings of the "myth" that "Logan Starbright" may become one day-!

---A 'vortex' of spiritual power flares to life.

The virtual world that was doing its best to maintain it's cohesion begins to scream again in rebellion at the sight, screech and shake and rumble as a number of bombs becomes stars in a 'galaxy' of your own creation, stars that gather speed and become a storm of gradient meteors as they join -and then leave- a storm of rampaging magical energy, that...

    Cannot oppose the falling star.

    It cannot.

And thus, the Tower laughs to itself.

It is a simple rule, no matter how powerful the defense one might conjure, magic of the "Almighty" Element existed on a step above that of the others; while the two storms of magic might be similar in output... No, while this mass of power the boy has conjured with the help of a distant ally and his own ingenuity is actually greater in terms of Reiki than it's own magic, it will be swallowed up and destroyed by it's power all the same, and yet-

The boy knows that too it seems.

He does not fire to oppose the falling star, no, from the very moment he had decided to fight he had known who his opponent was, and yet...

    ---That too is foolish.

Preparing this sort of magic also means that there there will be no escape for him from the blast radius, did a single human think it would outlast it, even in it's incomplete, rushed form?

    Laughable.

    An exchange of blows?

It'll win such a thing every time-!

    Magic descends.

    ---Yes.

---The boy had certainly known about this outcome.

Magic crashes down, annihilating all in it's wake, divine judgement in it's purest form, and yet-!

Like a spear thrown with dying will, the surge of power that escapes from the impact zone in pursuit of it's core is remarkably fast... A deluge of multi-elemental bombs cloaked in a storm of electricity, accelerated to the point where they were already on it by the time it can acknowledge that boy had followed through on his plan until the end, and-!

    ---One detonation.

    ---Two detonations.

    ---Three detonations.

    -------Twelve detonations.

Charged with an insane amount of will, with the desire to win, with the unshakeable belief of someone else that he will certainly do so, each impact is heavier than the last, cracks shooting through a core as it caught up in a 'barrage' of lesser magic, a simple star-storm that ends with a vibrant thunderclap, something that shouldn't budge it's majestic form at all, and yet-

    And yet-

    And yet-!

---When it's over, when it remains standing even on the other end of that barrage...

    There are cracks.

Numerous cracks across it's surface, so many that it can't help but fall into a rage, understanding exactly how 'close' it had been to being banished, and yet...

It assuages itself with a simple fact.

It had struck down it's opponent without fail, or at least...

---That is perhaps, exactly what an arrogant god would assume even in the face of a much more mortal reality.

    ---There is someone down below.

As the light of the Almighty recedes, as the power of the Divine works it's way through a simple human, that human, who had fallen to his knees in an attempt to brace against the impact, slowly stands back up again on his own, body covered in burns, mind swimming with the pain that had come from having to resist his soul being forcibly dragged out of his body by a deluge of radiant magic...

He hadn't done anything particularly special to endure the attack.

He had no special power to reduce it's damage, nor had he managed to avoid any of it, but...

He was a Tamer, not just that...

    He was himself.

    Logan Starbright.

Weak in many ways, but strong in just as many others...

Even if you didn't acknowledge it yourself, yes...

You had simply taken that magic head on, it had blown straight through your Harmonizer and devastated the world around you, but...

    That was all.

Did it think you would go down just because this was an Almighty Spell?

    No...

Tamers aren't that easy to defeat-!

    Logan Endured the Attack-!
    Critical Condition: +25 Will

Your defiant stance becomes a glare as it's single eye widens -first in shock, then in rage- but-

-a cracking sound, as something strikes the core.

    It's Amelia.

Thrown out of defiance, out of an instinctively understood opening, a single piercing blow-

-that shatters that eye like a glass window.

    -------

It's body is rapidly vanishing, a sign of a summon being banished from this reality, flickering away like dust in the wind...

There is no way to capture it through Amelia, since it seems to have only been partially summoned, but at the very least...

    It seems like it's over.

    At least this part...

The ground beneath your feet begins to crumble as it too starts to fade away...

In the distance, you can see lights dancing across the sky as some other confrontation starts in the distance, and behind you, away from that battle...

The Lord of the Flies, Astra, and the strange other demon...

Seem to have stopped fighting, or at least...

She seems to be talking to them...

Even as they continue to attack her... Less mindlessly this time...

"Unless... That's not okay with you...? Is it weird...?"
    “Weird…?”

Briefly closing her eyes in thought as she ponders over how to best respond to Agatha’s query, it only takes a moment for Eva to open them again as she gives her response-

“… I think it would be a lie if I were to say it wasn’t weird. It is, after all, a bizarre phenomenon that even you only somewhat understand- to call it anything else would be inaccurate.”

    - the blunt truth.

If this world could be separated into the ordinary and the unordinary, then there would be no doubt in Eva’s mind this occurrence is the latter.

For one, her systems do not detect anything about it, suggesting it is indeed an abnormal process.

But even more importantly, this plume of dusk is in essence, Eva Ellet. To her knowledge, that is how things have been since she was activated, and how it has been for every moment since. Her knowledge of whether or not there exist conventional, ‘orthodox’ means by which that can be changed may admittedly be lacking, but that history by itself means the fact that it has changed is indeed an oddity of note.

In that sense, what is going on is certainly weird.

“But you have already demonstrated that you can do many weird things. This is almost normal for an abnormal individual.”

At this point, it is hardly of particular note. There is something even satisfying about the statement, even if Agatha’s explanation of events is not.

Content with having answered her own impression of Agatha’s main query, Eva moves on to address the other part- in her view, it is a question of lesser importance, as the answer is trivial .

“In any case, I do not mind. It is essentially like a telephone, right?”

---A monstrous effort to hold onto your sense of identity.

While the past couple of days had certainly hinted at the existence of some other sort of 'Cosmos' dwelling inside of you, this entity that fate seemed to ordain was simply called Preciel, this is the first time it has made an active grasp at what you can only assume is domination of your psyche, a phenomena like possession, your 'previous self' rising up as an entity all it's own to take care of this 'problem' for you, but...

    You resist it.

It feels wrong, this it is only natural that you resist it.

---The entity had never seemed this violent before to you either, you had never gotten that sense of 'it' up until now, but there was something about the voice inside of your head, the way it was speaking, the violent undertones, that have it coming across as simply... Incorrect...

Like there's something wrong with it...

Of course, all of this is madness, nonsense really...

You have no idea what Preciel is like, so perhaps, just perhaps...

A part of you simply does not want to admit to this 'violent self.'

Either way, you embrace your better nature in spite of everything, warning your opponent to stop before all of this gets out of hand, and in response to that declaration...!

    "...Preciel."

The voice gets ice-cold, as almost all empathy drains from it.

"...Is she talking to you? What is it saying? That it'll break me?"

Time seems to slow down, as a bubbling sense of rage begins to coat that voice of ice-!

"Like they did my mother and sister? Just like that? Do you think I would have come here if I didn't think I could slay a disciple?"

    She's ranting now.

    Yes.

It's certainly a she, you don't know how you know, but...

    You know.

"Get out of Cosmos's head, monster-! I'll kill you, I'll kill you right here-! Get out of that body and come fight me if you think you're so damn strong-! You're a bundle of shitty leftover memories that no one needs!"

Icy words that escalate to screaming, as she says things that only sort of make sense to you, that show that this newfound sense of rage is not aimed at "Cosmos Fairchild" but rather "Preciel," and...

    And...

    And...!

A hand shoots out to grab your clothes at the neck, an impulsive violent action that seems to come from the woman's rage, rage so potent that the sword in her hand almost seems to be forgotten, and with that-!

    "Get off her, asshole-!"

    Alyx's voice-!

In the world of static and darkness you cannot see her, cannot see your opponent, cannot see the world around you, but you can hear it...

The sound of a tackle, the feeling of hands falling away from your clothes as two bodies fall violently to the floor, there's the brief sounds of a physical struggle, of guns going off, of the sound of something like rain falling, and-

"Cosmos, quit freaking out already, damn-!"

-that all clears up in an instant as Alyx calls your name... She does it sharply, with a purpose that cuts through the static of hazy memories and dreams, and reveals a world that...

    Hasn't changed too much...

Alyx is in front of you, gun leveled at an opponent that is but a single sword length away, however...

...It's something of a stand off, as countless spheres of magical energy exist around all three of you, hovering in place where they had been fired by Alyx, loyal shells that do not dissipate if they hit nothing, rather, shells that come to a stop in midair and wait for another chance...

That is the unique 'power' of her handguns.

Even so, she seems to understand that this battle is not an 'ideal one.'

With her eyes glancing towards the distant exit, her body movements and expressions alone are enough to tell you she had called out to you so you could 'get ready to run,' after all, victory here could be as simple as simply denying the White Shroud there goal, however...

Without a distraction, even if Alyx were to pull the trigger on her guns and send all of the misfired shots back towards her target...

It doesn't feel like a big enough distraction, no...

    You need something bigger...

And it's as that thought appears...

That the world itself starts to shake...

You can't identify the cause, but it's a rumbling that makes the White Shroud shift in place, head darting away from the two of you for a fraction of a second, as if searching for some sort of other enemy, and-

    "...!"

    ---Now's the time.

If you mean to run away, then...

    Right now-!

Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stilled and the actors leave the stage, the story will never truly end.

Regardless of the form it takes, as long as there are memories of it's existence, the story will continue on.

In a small ward in the heart of a once devastated town, life carries on as it always has...

    Because of you.

    Please, remember it warmly.

We'll continue to walk down this path for eternity.
