    Monday - Morning

    "..."

A pause, as if the somewhat abrasive nature of your response had been something unexpected for her. Of course, it would normally be more customary to apologize to someone that you almost ran over in a mad-dash from a white-haired mad scientist, but seeing as how this girl screams "suspicious" in a much more blatant way than the doctor, it's only natural to give her a bit more of a cold shoulder, and-

"...Well you got me kid, I'm here to vandalize the sports field."

-in response to that, an answer that appears with only the lightest bit of a sarcastic smile, although her eyes remain dull and calm even in the face of her own sarcastic answer, body shifting in place to face you completely. She's a bit pale, with a complexion that looks like it hasn't really seen the sun for a few weeks, or has recently been stricken with some sort of sickness, but the hands that come to rest on her hips are strong enough, and leaning forward slightly, she seems to resist the urge to roll her eyes...

"...Or I would be, if doing so wouldn't get me jumped by like fifteen magic-slinging kids..."

...And seems to make an effort to be a bit nicer, as if the sarcastic reaction had been a bit more of a knee jerk one...

"So I'm just looking around a bit, trying to find someone... I used to live here, so it's not illegal for me to want to walk around a bit right? But you, you're definitely running from something... Kids are always so damn confrontational... Try to be pleasant and they bite your head off..."

...And then some mild grumbling, as if she was some sort of old woman in spite of clearly being in her teens...

    Blaise Pendragon
    (Fleeing from) Aoyama Gakuen
    Monday - Morning

"Oi. Don't call me a kid when you're obviously a high schooler yourself."

He couldn't help himself. The retort had flown off of Blaise's lips before his brain could even properly register it. It was like something in his blood was forcing him to call out the absurdities just like this, refusing to let go quirks that others might let slide with a shrug of their shoulders. But not Blaise. It was an instinct of his, something in his very nature.

He honestly hoped that at least was the case. Otherwise that meant he had been watching way too many comedy shows from the Kansai region...

Still, this situation was... perhaps not as he had initially assumed. The sarcastic remark from the girl was hinting at that, at least. Perhaps the high-strung situation had gotten the better of Blaise and his abrasive personality had gone into overdrive. He had a habit of expecting the worst from people, and here it had once again reared its head. Of course a student of another high school would arose suspicions by going around Aoyama Gakuen, but at the same time...

--- Well, this was just a hunch of Blaise's, but he couldn't help not to notice the slight tell-tale signs of some illness in the girl.

A sick person looking for someone despite their outfit being capable of causing confusion like just now...

... He might have made an ass of himself for someone who didn't deserve it.

"... Alright, so maybe I am running from something. Still, your outfit... you're bound to draw suspicious glares if you hang about school in another school's uniform," Blaise finally said, sighing just a bit and scratching the back of his head. "Aoyama has a way of gathering delinquents, after all..."

He could practically hear Kaguya snort derisively in the background.

"But if you're here to visit a friend, I guess it's understandable," Blaise continued. "So? Who's this someone you're trying to find? I might be able to help you. I grew up in this town so I know it like the back of my hand."

Even if Dr. Bern was still after him, he had to make an effort to at least be polite. Perhaps it was just the sight of a school uniform that had drawn his ire. After all, he never expected fair treatment at Aoyama, so he was naturally like a bush of thorns when dealing with students. But this girl... she wasn't one of Aoyama's students, was she? She had no such preconceptions. Therefore, he had been rude for no damn reason.

This wasn't according to the rules of chivalry, as taught by his other sister. She would have been ashamed if she saw how the boy had acted.

    "........."

Therefore, he had to make an effort.

    And an effort he did.

Despite the girl being sarcastic, she might have had a very good reason to look for a friend despite being possibly sick.

Therefore, he could at least offer to help.

"... Anyways, the name's Blaise. Blaise Pendragon."

The boy offered his hand at the girl as a sign of greeting... but also to somewhat start over. Like asking to redo something he had screwed up.

"... Sorry about bumping into you like that."

It was admitted through slightly gritted teeth, but it was admitted nonetheless.

    Akarana Estate ~ Underground Hallway
    Monday - Afternoon/Evening

Ultimately, your opponent's strongest asset seems to be the home field advantage.

Having already prepared herself earlier tonight for the possibility of being forced to fight to protect the man she loves, the woman has carefully thought about how best to utilize her powers and abilities, and chose this battlefield specifically because she knew she could eventually overwhelm anyone that attempted to defeat her inside of it. The enclosed walls made evasion difficult so long as the gap in speed wasn't monstrously high, her demonic-heritage seemingly let her steal and use the powers of others through the simple act of touch, and she has no objective she needs to fulfill other than serving as a final barrier for her most precious person...

    Yes.

It's a combination of factors that is proving to be quite damning... While you have yet to take any direct hits from the woman, it's only a matter of time before she has your movements mapped out inside of her head and can send out more accurate strikes, which considering your specializations as a Tamer, was a result that was the least favorable for someone of your particular constitution, especially since you could imagine "stealing" having quite a few more unfortunate effects than simply theft or replication of your abilities...

    Life force, spiritual power, information...?

If she had mastered it to the point of being able to steal those, it could become a devastating ability that would have drastic consequences for any of it's victims.

---That is why, when you realize you're being cornered, you choose to rush forth one more time.

While your plan to suffocate her might have worked if you had stuck to it for long enough, her choice of attack didn't leave you that sort of time-! It's a shift from one extreme to another, where passivity had once reigned supreme in your movements, you rush forward again without warning, praying that the woman is either surprised by the sudden shift in your movements, grows cocky once you've 'fallen' into her trap, or is just so focused on you that the sight of a special golden sword, streaking through the air with all the eye-rending might of a flash grenade stuns her for even a single moment.

---Preferably you would like all three to occur, but realistically speaking...

    "...!"

It seems you will never get the second out of this person-!

When the corneal reflex forces her to shut her eyes, you know that this is a chance that you can't screw up; it's an involuntary reaction that she can't avoid due to studying you so completely, a forced 0.1 second blink as her eyes automatically shut to protect themselves from the searing light that has seared her vision. It's a classical trick that never seems to grow old, a tactic the common soldier would use back in the day with flash grenades, and yet-!

A crimson limb of miasma reacts, crashing through the air with force enough to send you flying back -and likely through- the hallway of metallic rods and lances, the woman's mind firing off the moment she realizes she has been blinded, attacking directly in front of her as she moves to defend against what she is sure is an attack on her body, a repeat of the rush from the beginning of the fight, but-!

    "Not here-!"

Striding across the right wall, instinct and reflexes sending you into an upside down dash along the top of the ceiling to avoid the hammer-like blow, it's her assumption that you would have preferred to attack rather than escape that had opened up a tiny crack in her defense, one that you had maneuvered into with every bit of power you could afford to manifest in this instance, the massive crimson arm grazing along the shield through it's sheer size as you nevertheless manage to get behind her without being directly touched yourself, and-

-without hesitation, you split the door clean in two, rushing through it in the same instant.

Only to be greeted by gunfire.

Specifically, it is two automated turrets that await you in the hallway behind the door, a hallway that almost certainly leads to where your true target is, but...

Seamlessly, you deflect all of the machine-gun fire with your two blades. While it might have caught a less nimble Tamer off-guard, an attack as straightforward as an old-world turret isn't something that could penetrate your defenses alone-!

The glint of a flashing blade sends all bullets back to their homes, the glint of Aster's steel revealing a figure behind you as the turrets crackle with electricity and shut down. While it had been a small distraction at best, it was still enough of one that your opponent has managed to figure out what has happened; the roar that emerges at the realization is one that seems to shake the complex, a roar full of both rage and panic as her carefully crafted plan threatens to fall apart due to a single miscalculation on her part-!

But that's alright, you had been slowed somewhat by the storm of bullets, so she could catch you-!

    Yes.

So long as she can reclaim her post as a wall, she could maneuver the fight back into her preferred paces, so long as she could do that, she could certainly defeat you. She was positive of this, your previous interactions had proven to her that you were far from invincible, and having already copied your speed earlier on in the fight, she has no intention of letting you get away-!

---Even so, a sheath is thrust with all the power you have into her solar plexus, easily slipping through her defenses in spite of how competently she had acted before-!

To her it's surprising, but to you...

    It only makes sense.

Some aspects of a fight are mental, so long as she was calm and thinking she was an incredibly dangerous opponent, but getting past her had introduced a bit of panic into her thoughts; not only that, even if one steals speed, they do not have all the experience that comes with possessing it-! In comparison to you she's a bit clumsy, and thus your backwards strike with the sheath, made as if you hadn't noticed her, had gone through without a hitch-!

    ---A heartbeat.

From here... Yes, for the first time... You are the one pushing the battle forward...

One hand clutching her stomach as she falls back onto one knee, it seems the girl will be down for a second or two, out of breath from the strike... You could use this time to push the assault on her now, or continue on with your original plan to just get past her and go-! Taking her down here would ensure she can't catch up with you later, but being pushed onto the back foot like this might have her pull out some more drastic measures to defeat you, and if she manages to pin you in this hallway again, it's likely that you won't be able to escape in the same way again-!

There are pros and cons to either choice, and perhaps a third one exists, but-!

Whatever you choose to do... You have but a single moment to decide.

    Logan Starbright
    SLEIPNIR ~ Flight Deck (South)
    Monday ~ Morning

In the face of an enigmatic offensive, you decide that it's best to stay on the defensive until a more decisive opening presents itself to you.

There are simply too many unknown factors here for you to consider attacking, the purpose of the stored motes of energy, the fighting style and overwhelming speed of the enemy, and it's ability to seemingly disappear completely from most forms of detection through magic... Battles of a magical sort are best fought with some knowledge of the enemy's abilities, to charge in blind is a hazard that could easily lead one to being crippled from the get-go by something that had perhaps seemed negligible at a glance, yes...

For you... An analytical approach to these sorts of things suited you just fine.

    "Hah-!"

Guided by your visions, you parry the first blow of that plasma saber with a swipe of your staff, stepping aside in the same movement to let the 'bullets' of energy pass you by, burying themselves into the ground rather than into your ankles.

---Yes. That is what the motes of energy had turned out to be in the end, bullets that fired themselves methodically in time with your opponent's movements, covering for any blind spots that might appear by going for critical parts of your body in the 'heartbeat' after the robot's attacks. It's a spell that seems to function exactly like self-manifested cover-fire, suppressing your own movements not just by it's incredible speed, but by also presenting a secondary 'threat' that you are unwilling to allow to touch your body...

It's not that the bullets feel particularly powerful however, as a Tamer, it would take much more than one or two 'bullets' to put you down; but at the same time, the unknown factor of the enemy's abilities has you wary of other effects the bullets themselves might have... Weaker attacks were rarely meant to put down an opponent by themselves, more often than not they were methods of applying curses to an opponent from a distance, a way to weaken them and -consequently- open them up to more decisive blows...

---So while it would certainly be possible for you to endure those attacks, simply power through the bullets to reach your enemy, the crippling threat they posed stayed your hand for now...

There was no reason to be reckless, after all, while your opponent had certainly put you in a tough position...

---It's not like you were fighting alone yourself either-!

Lightning erupts from your COMP completely independent of your own will; while the enemies speed meant that you needed to focus entirely on it to avoid letting it's attacks through your defenses, the COMP that has been asked to fight when it sees an opening, does so in the heartbeat after your fourth parry, as you leap backwards to avoid the shards of energy that again sought to cripple you by taking out your legs.

Your calculated retreat is predicted to draw your opponent in after you, and indeed, fire shoots from it's feet with a sound like a jet engine as it bursts after you in pursuit, seeing your sudden retreat as a moment of weakness in it's own right, and in that moment-

    Lightning erupts to intercept it.

Ultimately, Spirit Tamers are at their strongest when they fight alongside their A.I's, a COMP is an empathic weapon, a companion, and it is the unity that they share with their user that allows both of them to be powerful, and to use tactics that would be impossible alone-! They exist as assistants for this very reason, to ensure that no one ever has to fight alone, and that there will always be someone watching the back of the guardians of the current world-!

    "...!"

Caught in the air as a result of this baiting, there is little the assassin can seemingly do about the spear of lightning that threatens to run it through; it has been using magic constantly up until now to pressure you, so any powerful barriers or movement spells are likely unable to be deployed without risking overload... Zio itself is not too powerful a spell of course, at least not at it's lowest level, but it is the 'tap' that could easily create a moment for you to go on the offensive yourself, turning the tide of battle and forcing it on the defensive as your spirit power did it's job, but-

    "Heh-!"

-even though it cannot avoid it, it laughs, it's voice deep and confident in a way that sets off all of the alarms inside of your mind.

---Because it knows it can turn this right back on you.

    Yes.

Call it bad luck, but it emerges from the detonation of electricity no worse for the wear-!

---Immune to electrical attacks, or at least resistant.

The Harmonizer, the greatest program of the magic age, ironically shows off it's true worth against a human as your opponent doesn't even slow down in the face of your magic-!

---an unknown factor that scrambles predictions.

    *Ba-dump*

Without complete understanding of your opponent's abilities, there is only so much Eye of the Fates can do... It was quite possible to poke holes in the possible futures by withholding information from the algorithms... In the end it's a false form of clairvoyance, something different from the conceptual ability to perceive time, and thus it is only natural that it could be momentarily broken by something it hadn't been able to account for-!

    Even so...

    Even so...

    Even so-!

While it may have scrambled your predicted future, Logan Starbright is still here, and you are still a Tamer, someone who can defeat legends, who exists to challenge fate, and serves as a bridge between humanity and demons-!

Even if it catches you off guard, this body that has never stopped training since that day automatically moves to respond to the unceasing attack even as the 'future' you saw was sliced clean in half-! It's not a conscious motion, rather it's an instinctual one, a reflexive fall to the floor that sends you just beneath the opponent's slash at your chest, hand balling up into a fist as your precognition comes back online, a fist charged with spirit power throwing your opponent up and into the air-!

---It's an exchange that lasts little more than a second, two swift turnabouts into a launch, as a smug opponent suddenly finds himself being blasted into the sky, but-!

    "...!"

It too, has it's pride as a warrior-!

Hurling it's blade at you from the sky, the swirling green of plasma seems to become a buzz saw to the naked eye as it approaches with all the force of a meteor impact, rotating so fast that the winds are pulling at your clothes-! Yes, it's clearly a form of spell rather than just a simple toss, something that might not be possible to parry or block normally, especially with how hard it's magic was to figure out due to it's nature, but-!

'Keep it busy, alright? I'll set something up to capture it.'

In the face of that chaos, a message from Astra drifts across the surface of your thoughts, beamed to you by a simple one-way communication spell; of course, she says it like it's easy, and has certainly melted away into the background since the fight began, but-!

That was how Roth did things you suppose, everyone was far more used to fighting in their own way rather than alongside each other, but-!

It's also not like you have much of a choice-!

    Monday ~ Morning

Waterfalls of digits fell down from the tops of invisible ravines. Where once there were school grounds, soon nothing remained but the falling text. Spilling into the ground and disappearing, as information created the world from the ground up into something more suitable for the purpose of training.

“Waaaaaah!” In excitement, the small girl exclaimed. Eager eyes darted up and down, left and right, trying to follow the text and make sense of it.

An attempt that was less innocent than most of her other curiosities. The effort was more conscious. As a Tamer, she knew this was some application of magic. Leaning on technology, yes, but magic. She should make an effort to understand it. A Tamer in the field will have to piece together and understand unseen, unheard of magic in the heat of battle. It’s one of the demands she knew about.

Those eyes filled with wonder also hosted resolve.

That resolute curiosity was drawn away by the arrival of two others.

“Nanaya-senpai, Nakahara-senpai.” She repeated back the names of the two others called by the teacher. “Hyakka Onjouji! Hana is fine. I am…”

    “Old enough.”

“Exactly!” The girl smiled brightly. “There is no reason to worry, Nakahara-senpai. I was not forced at all. I asked to participate.”

She cast her outstretched arm to the side in a large sweeping gesture. Black and red feathers fluttered in the trail of her arm.

“I came to learn, and to learn I must train,” the black and red flickered behind her, distorted and broken, like a glitch on a computer screen, “to become a hero!”

Ultimately, while Shuichi is the kind of guy that seems capable of doing anything and bonding with anyone, there is still a sort of 'barrier' around his demeanor that separates him from other people. His interactions with others typically revolve around him helping them out with something, be it defending them in battle, assisting with their spell-crafting or COMP maintenance, or even helping with the more traditional forms of schoolwork such as mathematics and history...

The focus is rarely ever on himself as a person, and consequently it's difficult to tell how he really feels about things. He is not known to boast or complain, and since he seems to dabble in everything in a manner akin to a polymath, it's hard to tell what hobbies or areas of study he feels particularly passionate about, as he seems to have invested some time into basically everything, as if he felt compelled to be "that sort of reliable person."

---In some ways it's sad, a clear burden that you are able to see as such, but that you have never seen him complain about in any way.

Does he see it all as a burden? Does he struggle beneath that weight? How heavy is that heritage? The expectation that comes with being born something like a genius, or working hard enough that no one would ever assume that he hadn't always been one...?

It's a question you ponder aloud in some ways, after coming to the conclusion that your words might seem 'weak' in the face of that sort of 'impossibly strong' person, but...

"...Planned it all out huh? I wonder if I did...?"

A gentle smile, but also one that seems unsure -or rather troubled- for the first time, as if even he himself didn't know exactly how he had wound up being the person that he was...

"Well putting that aside... It's difficult perhaps, but I find difficult things are the things worth doing the most. There's no need to apologize to me, I think being inspired by your parents is a fine thing."

...But it's a moment of uncertainty that vanishes quickly, as he reverts back to his usual "assured senpai" like personality...

"If I didn't think so, I'd be a bit of a hypocrite myself."

    Meanwhile...

Escaping from the friendly grasp of a violet-haired otaku, the golden-haired vice director hands over the letter without complaint, although she keeps what seems to be a wary eye on it as you automatically move to carefully open it up. It's not very heavy, nor is the envelope itself special in any particular way... But opening it up reveals a short note written on what seems to be linen paper, as well as a small photograph, one that seems to be of the interior of an aquarium... Specifically, it seems to be a photo of Aoyama's Starlight Aquarium, at least... That is what you can guess by a sign in the photograph itself, one hanging right over a tank full of fish.

As for the note itself, the brevity is kind of shocking, and unlike the envelope which had both of your names on it, this one seems to be aimed specifically at your User:

"Senpai?! Senpai! Her voice is so cute-!"

    "A hero huh? Nice."

Where Nanaya-senpai has burst into a mess of appreciative squeals at the sound of someone calling her senpai, Nakahara proves himself as the far more composed of the duo without skipping a beat, actually using words to remark on a dream that has been so innocently presented to him-!

Of course... It is not an uncommon dream for someone to have, most children go through a phase where they wish to be a police officer or a firefighter, but the prevalence of Spirit Tamers in the modern day -as well as the fact that they typically handle those sorts of tasks as well- has made it so that most kids who wish to grow up to be a 'hero' wind up aspiring to be a "Spirit Tamer." Superheroes who exist to defy the fate of eternal war between humanity and demon-kind, living bridges that serve to slowly bring both groups together as one, while stopping all those that sought to harm others-!

    Yes...

Certainly they are portrayed as heroes of justice, and while the reality of it isn't quite so squeaky clean at times, those sorts of thoughts have never really run through your head, after all-!

Even if the Tamers had to fight, they fought for the sake of peace-!

"Alright, in that case I'll do my best to make our match worth it. Heroes should have dramatic first chapters in their stories right?"

And indeed, one hand rising to dramatically adjust his scarf ever so slightly as a non-existent wind bursts to life to make it ripple in the air, this particular senpai seems to make an effort to look visibly cool and hero-like in front of his underclassmen... Of course, such things might come across as a bit try-hard to a certain type of person, but much like Kaori's superhero landing, it's a motion and pose that screams "the hero of a manga," but it's one that seemingly causes a bit of embarrassment for him after a few seconds, as he coughs awkwardly into a fist before moving back to a more neutral stance, arms and scarf at his sides.

"We'll let her pick the first auto-skill, that alright with you Kaicho?"

"Sure, you guys get into the load-out. I'll explain the rest to her."

Having left a seemingly good impression on your opponents in spite of the brevity of this encounter, your other two senpai disappear in a flash of what seems to be computer data, leaving you alone with Kaori.

"Alright, school matches are simple. Our side is supposed to defeat theirs by any means available to us; defeat in sparring is classified as taking a mortal wound or being knocked unconscious, but copied data bodies are used as substitutions for our own in these simulators, so there's no need to hold back."

All in all, it seems relatively simple.

Of course, it's a bit different than battles that would take place outside the safety of a Tamer University or Base; while everyone typically has their own Harmonizer on the outside, the School's more powerful Harmonizer Field was used instead, with the data of those participating being uploaded into it's database to replicate their personal stats...

    But auto skills...

Those are used one at a time. Matches are done in sets of five, and a different member of the match was able to designate one of their auto-skills -as well as the terrain- as what would be present during the round, with everyone elses being negated for the purpose of ensuring there were no errors in the field due to excessive Harmonizer Overlap...

    And...

Everyone seems to have agreed to let you go first in this instance...

    Auto-Skill and Terrain...

The ability to choose such things meant a massive advantage for you at the very least, so this first round would definitely be the round where you were strongest...

"I can fight anywhere, so don't worry about me. Once you've chosen, the System will be able to recognize your intentions."

And your partner seems to be the "jack of all trades" types too-!

    Tutorial

    Sparring - Tamer Rules

During simulator matches, all characters involved in the battle will have a chance to customize the battlefield to an extent, choosing an auto-skill that will be present throughout the duration of the round, as well as where the round itself will take place. Because of the length of these matches however, the player will only assume direct control of their character during the first round, where their performance (as well as other factors, such as how much information was gained about the enemy, what auto-skills/spells you had set for yourself to use, how much you had already known about your opponents) will affect and decide the following rounds.

A Team only loses when all of it's members are defeated, and unlike in street battles, defeat is defined as being dealt a decisively mortal blow or knocked unconsciousness. Even if you possess abilities or spells that would allow you to keep fighting past those points, the system will remove you from the battlefield the moment you take that sort of damage regardless-!

Like other battles, the spells that the character plans on using must be decided beforehand and is limited by their spell slots. The terrain is also chosen beforehand by the characters, but their planned choices are known to everyone present in the match before it starts. Auto-skills are not revealed in this same manner. In the event that the fifth round is reached, the final battlefield's terrain and auto-skill will be determined by whoever is observing the match (in this case, Saki). Most terrain that can be thought of can be used, but things that would incapacitate someone immediately without them possessing specialized equipment (ie space), aren't allowed by the System in casual matches.

Round Order is typically determined at random, although those with a clear disadvantage (newer or weaker tamers) are often allowed to go first, with the agreed upon "strongest" Tamer going last.

    Round Order

    1.) Hyakka - Undecided, Undecided
    2.) Akane - Forest, ???
    3.) Hiroki - Clock-Tower, ???
    4.) Kaori - School Grounds, ???
    5.) Saki - ???, ???

    "Tsukiko. Tsukiko Aido."

Ultimately, she doesn't comment on your remark about her apparent age. Of course it feels like a bit of a weird thing to have to point out, the fact that she was clearly a high-school student rather than some forty year old soccer mom; it's the sort of thing that one could take as a compliment if they really squinted, the sort of thing you really shouldn't have to fight her on, and indeed...

"...I don't have many other clothes besides these... I'm wearing this by necessity rather than choice..."

While the gritted teeth almost makes her want to ignore your handshake, she shrugs off that more aggressive part of her personality and does her best to explain, even though the look on her face is that of someone who is well aware she looks bizarre and is doing her best to ignore it, like early-morning shoppers that happen to go to the store in their pajamas...

Of course, if there was something 'strange' about her appearance, it was that she was pretty in a haunting sort of way, almost like a ghost... Of course ghosts were a thing even before the beginning of the magic age, but the fact that her hand seems to have varying textures rather than being a simple mass of spirit power nips that little theory in the bud before it can really grow into anything more...

"I'd... Appreciate the help. This place looks different now... There's a lot of... Weird stuff around nowadays."

    That was an understatement...

But the magic era has always been interesting, if nothing else-!

"I'm looking for a Ms. Mina Harker. She should be here in Aoyama... I heard she was a waitress nowadays? Some bar called For Pete's Sake?"

    Ah...

Yeah, you knew where that one was...

Your family had friends that were just as weird as they were... To put it frankly, there was a certain subset of Aoyama where the heroes from a few decades ago had all set up shops. There was Brewed Awakening, run by a blonde-woman -Liane- who your father had always seemed to act strange around, Moon Under Water, where people went when they wanted a good old-fashioned American meal, and For Pete's Sake, a bar that was willing to let kids sit in and drink soda during the day -you had dived in to escape the council president once- but did it's do diligence by getting them out at night...

Your parents were friends with the people that worked there, but you yourself didn't know them particularly well, so the memories weren't that strong... Did a "Mina Harker" work there?

    It was hard to say.

Still, it was just a few blocks down from the soba shop...

Now that you've offered to help...

    SLEIPNIR ~ Flight Deck (North)
    Monday ~ Morning

Here she was, my sister back from dead. She's silent, refusing to show her face even as winds flow fiercely, tugging at her robes, while her emotions are running rampant.

The drones flying behind her, the people she's with, the figure that's currently fighting and seemingly keeping up with Adala, the Tamers currently fighting all over the SLEIPNIR. The situation isn't looking good, but amongst it all, it's her unusual silence that worries me most.

She moves closer, the drones following our movements. She extends a hand, and seemingly waits for my reply.

Lydia, switch the field's effect to Battle Aura.

This is a trap, isn't it.

    ...Most likely, yes.

And you're going in anyway, aren't you?

    ......Yes.

    I can't persuade you otherwise, can I?

What would you do in my shoes?

...Fine, but you still have a promise to keep, don't you dare forget.

Hahahaha, oh I'll get you your waffles, don't you worry Lydia.

All I can do is worry about you Lud, I hope you know what you're doing.

The winds lose their intensity as the Harmonic Field is altered. The girl in front of me, her hand still outstretched, is confused, conflicted, her emotions in heavy turmoil.

"Acting calm suits you poorly Lara, normally I'd be the calm one but..."

Still remaining motionless, we keep our gazes fixed to one another, neither of us showing an opening. My hand reaches out towards hers.

"...Forgive me, I guess this time I'm the emotional one"

Within an instant I close my arms around her, hugging her tightly, one hand holding her back while another caresses the back of her head.

And so, the kind-hearted older sister stands in silence, while the normally silent little brother now extends his kindness.

This action either stokes the fires in her mind, or stills them significantly. It's a chance I'm willing to take, or a mistake I'm willing to make.

If I can relieve her of the pain she's feeling, of the storm that ravages her mind, then it's worth a shot.

Even if a battle between us is imminent, she should know at least some kindness prior to it.

    Wise up!
    Harmonizer Field: Battle Aura
Adds an additional defensive layer to the Harmonizer, this layer ensures that E Rank Spells cannot damage anyone within the field, regardless of whether or not the attack would ordinarily be targeting a weakness. A must have for those that wish to shrug off the usual ‘spamming’ nature of low-ranked spells.

    Mokujima Chris
    Aoyama, Brewed Awakenings
    Monday - Morning

    "Hm."

It's only a moment. Only a moment, but Chris feels like, for that moment, she saw something in her Sempai's expression. Something she could relate to, just a bit. That's not enough to slow her heart, which has been pounding since they entered the building. Nor is it enough to dispel her constant worries; they will remain for as long as she is in this situation. But, she can relax just a bit; he is a person after all.

"Sh-Sh-Sh-Namasaki-sempai." Chris straightens, once more displaying her freakish height.

"Difficult is... worth doing. That's why I joined. B-but." She slowly raises her hands from her phone, and presents the boy a chocolate cornet sprinkled with fine sugar, gazing past its point into his eyes. "...when I'm troubled, it helps to eat something delicious."

Immediately after saying that, she looks away. "If you have too much, it's bad. But none at all is... even worse."

It might be silly, that in that moment, someone like Mokujima Chris feels capable of giving advice to someone as amazing as Shuichi Namasaki. But, perhaps, it is a sign that she has stepped closer to him.

    And, interrupting that moment...

    "Chriiiiiiiis!"

    ...is a very confused Daisuke.

    "Chris, it's for you!"

He runs back to the group, waving around the letter as if it's a prized rarity.

"It's from an old friend! Apparently they want to meet you at the Aquarium!"

The response he gets is not one he expected. Daisuke rarely does the wrong thing, with respect to his User. Because he and Chris are so attuned to each other, he has an instinctual understanding of the girl's limits. He can count the number of times she was actually cross with him on one hand, and there has not been a single instance where he did something that he would later come to regret.

    That time... has just arrived.

Mokujima Chris is normally not a very expressive person. Her default is some shade of towering gloom, or occasionally a nervous twitch, like a giraffe in the open prairie. So now, when her eyes widen, her hands involuntarily form fists, and she sits up, shoulders back and neck straight, it is immediately obvious that those words have shocked her to the core.

    "Daisuke," she whispers. "Letter."

    "A-ah, right!"

She scans the paper, overcome with confusion... which rapidly crystallizes into purpose.

"Stay here," she says. "Enjoy the meal."

"H-huh?" For a COMP to be told to separate from his User is almost unheard of in modern society. To completely cut contact, even for a short time, is like leaving behind your phone, wallet, and identification. As a person, you would be reducing yourself to being nearly helpless. For a Spirit Tamer, it's a doubly foolish move. "Um, Chris, how come? And who is this old friend?"

"Someone I used to know." It's clear that, for whatever reason, there is something Chris has not told her COMP. "They're shy." Or at least, they were shy.

"They? So it's... an internet friend? But why didn't they just message... oh." The strange circumstances finally begin to align themselves. Despite Chris being constantly active across several programs, including the most widely used social media platforms, that person chose to contact her with a paper letter. Even though they had only ever communicated online. A letter is one of the few methods of communication in the modern world that you can't instantly reply to. So, it must be taken as it is.

"I'll be back. Sorry, Lexie, Sempai."

Mokujima Chris takes two steps towards the door, before her COMP wraps his arms around her leg, halting her in her tracks.

"W-wait! I'm not letting you go when you're all scared like that!"

She pauses, giving the boy a difficult stare. This is one of those situations where Chris isn't sure what to say.

Daisuke looks back at the table, meeting Lexie and Shuichi's eyes and all-but-pleading silently for a helping hand in keeping his obstinate User from doing something that he knows, deep in his core, without really understanding why, will not end well.

    Logan Starbright
    SLEIPNIR ~ Flight Deck (South)
    Monday ~ Morning

Keep it busy while Astra captured it. That suited Logan well; trapping opponents wasn’t his forte, and it’s not as if the enemy was going to leave him alone either. More importantly, it meant only he was in the line of fire.

Logan stared upward at the flashing blade as it hurtled down like a star of destruction.

Another spell incoming. Offset it? Too risky, no guarantee of interception or enough power. Then- Not an option, didn’t load that spell. Stupid underestimation, won’t happen again. Especially not if enemy succeeds. In that case, dodge, however-

The enemy hung in midair, weakened by Logan’s and Amelia’s combined efforts. Whatever means of propulsion it’d used to board the SLEIPNIR likely wasn’t accessible or viable at the moment, and its thrusters could only remain active for so long. Right now was the ideal time to follow up on the opening that he’d made!

Brilliant lightning and spirit power crackled along Amelia’s length as the sword approached, sending gusts of wind at Logan as it ripped through the sky. He tensed, his weapon aimed at the approaching strike and mind scanning the future for the ideal moment - and shot forward out of the blade’s path with Phantasm Step! If the enemy’s spell homed to follow him, he’d have to use a full-power strike to ward it off while taking evasive action. If not, he’d launch his attack at the unguarded enemy. Electricity was a poor choice against this assailant; that was a fact that both of them knew, and thus he’d feinted a clash of power to confuse the enemy when his true aim became clear. Even after his dodge, the assassin would wonder why Logan would use an ineffective attack against it, and that hesitation would create an opening. But why had Logan chosen this spell? The reason was simple.

    ”Vajra!”

Because the shaft of lightning, the divine spear that Logan hurled with all of his power couldn’t be blocked!

    Wise Up!
    Auto-Skill: Revitalize
Spell Formulas: Maei line, Zio Line, Vajra, Eye of the Fates, Return, Phantasm Step
COMP Heat: 9/10 (Logan uses Return afterward on Amelia once Vajra finishes or he needs to.)

Blue of Soul: All attacks reduce AGI on contact.
Enervate (Amelia Ability): Chance of lowering the VIT of enemies that make direct (physical) contact with Logan or Amelia.

Vajra - A combined physical and electrical attack that deals Pierce damage. Logan charges his COMP with mystic lightning and either hurls or thrusts it into the target at full power. While it lacks Aura Blast’s versatility and capacity for explosive power, its increased range and reliability in the face of defenses make this spell a mainstay in Logan’s arsenal.
    Element: Electricity
    Rank: C

    Enemy Kill Count: 16

    Blaise thought for a moment.

"The name doesn't ring a bell... but I know where For Pete's Sake is," he answered slowly. "It's not that far from here actually."

He wasn't exactly tour guide when it came to Aoyama, but he knew this place like the back of his hand. The city had been his turf for as long as he had been alive and so, showing an outsider where they needed to go was the least he could do. He had no idea who this Mina Harker was, but if she was working for that place... it must've been someone connected somehow to the weirdness of Aoyama. The people his parents knew were always odd, and not always in the good way, and thus he hesitated for a moment, but...

... Honestly, wasn't this a perfect excuse to slip away from the school and possible grasp of Dr. Bern?

Besides, a chivalrous person would help someone in need like that. He had no reason to be rude, after all.

"--- Alright. Follow me. It's not far from where I live, so I can show you the way," Blaise finally said, putting his hands in his pocket and started to walk. "I was heading in that direction anyways."

He had beaten up one delinquent gang for the day. Sometimes a 'community service' like this wasn't a bad alternative.

    Cosmos Fairchild
Rose Cross Headquarters - Hospital Wing, Cafeteria
    Monday - Noon

Ultimately, you take a calm and rational approach to the room, guided by both your principals and common sense. Busting into a hospital room with COMPs ablazing wouldn't be very good for the mental health and sense of security enjoyed by the patients inside the hospital... Of course the situation certainly seems bad at a glance, there were only a few ways someone could get behind that curtain without you seeing them enter the room, and while teleportation was something reserved for particularly talented spell-casters and was thus unlikely, mundane methods like climbing in through the outside window were still a possibility...

Of course, considering the angels outside, that sort of act should have drawn their attention...

So the answer remains shrouded in fog, leaving you little recourse but to just check on the situation manually.

    "..."

Considering Saria was with you... This was fine.

Long strides that defy panic or stress, but that nevertheless make a beeline straight for the rippling curtain and obvious feet. Getting closer to it certainly reveals a silhouette on the other side of that curtain, one that was only a bit taller than you, and gathering your courage to -gently- pull it aside-

    "..."

-reveals that at least one of your predictions was true.

    It's Miyu.

Being an ESPer, natural regeneration on both a physical and spiritual level is to be expected; their ability to recover from damage is phenomenal, as they are able to naturally recover from both physical and conceptual damage alike over time, albeit with the caveat that the more severe forms of curse/conceptual damage could take weeks for them to throw off completely... But considering they didn't require counter-curses or conceptual magic of their own to achieve this, it was certainly the sort of boon that could lead to a coma patient just waking up completely on her own without suffering from any form of muscular or skeletal degeneration...

    Yes...

Logically speaking, it's something she is certainly capable of doing due to her nature, but...

    "..."

There's something wrong with her demeanor.

One leg is up on the window-sill as if she was slowly working towards jumping out of it, but more importantly than that...

There's something off with her eyes... Hell, with how she's carrying herself in general...

The eyes are blank and glassy-looking -as if she's sleepwalking- and while one leg is up on the windowsill her general posture seems relaxed... Less like she was meaning to move around, and more like some invisible puppeteer was yanking on her limbs with invisible strings, but she certainly seems to be aware to an extent, considering how her head turns to regard both you and Saria automatically as you reveal her hiding place and then, when her half-glazed eyes truly meet your own-

    -Your brain shorts out.

---It's a bizarre sensation, but one that manifests inside of your gaze nonetheless. It's much like literal static, like your eyes were a television set, and the signals from the television station had been abruptly cut short, leaving nothing but white noise and scrambled images behind, images you can see only through the broken distorted haze, images of...

    Crystals...?

Crystals -glowing many different colors like fluorite- over a distorted view of...

    Something...

Some sort of residence? A castle? Or was it a human settlement?

    A crystallized town?

    Both perhaps?

---It's an image akin to a hallucination, something that comes and goes over the course of two heartbeats, but in that time...

"Tch... You just woke up, you can't go leaping out of windows-! Why are you running away?! Hey!"

...Miyu has leapt from her windowsill to the roofs below, darting away from the hospital with ESPer-speed, her figure leaving a violet streak like a falling meteor, with Saria immediately jumping out to follow her, her own trail a vivid blue as she falls naturally into pursuit without an ounce of hesitation or planning...

    As for you...

    "...Huh?"

For your friends, it's a rather bizarre show of self-motivation, something that seemed almost distressingly out-of-character for your more usual neurotic self, but you aren't really thinking about such things...

For you, this has suddenly gotten personal in a way they can't understand, not because they're somehow incapable, but because this is a secret that you have kept to yourself for an eternity.

    Yes...

The moment you see it your mind begins to spin, and the method that person had used made it all the more suspect... As you had theorized to yourself, a letter was the one form of communication that didn't allow an instant response, it was the sort of thing that forced you to follow up on what it asked, or miss the opportunity entirely, and considering the nature of this particular problem...

That wasn't an option, to the point where your usual fears seem to fall away... Because they would get in the way of you doing what you felt you needed to do...

---And to Daisuke this is naturally alarming, and his call for the others to help is met with...

"Uhh, well, this store is closing soon, so I can totally come with, no need to worry about interrupting our breakfast!"

...Lexie, whose voice has suddenly taken on the tone of a pseudo-valley girl as her mind frantically spins to find the 'right' thing to say in the face of this sort of bizarre behavior-!

"I'm a super people person, so I can handle someone shy! Don't leave me out, I love making new friends!"

It's the truth in many ways, but all the same... It's clear she's only being as enthusiastic about it as she is because she is sensing a 'disturbance' in the usual atmosphere that surrounds you...

"Namasaki-Senpai too! He's a born charmer! We've got him right now, so might as well drag him along with us as an escort right?"

...And is going so far as seemingly forcing Shuichi's hand towards coming along as well, or perhaps giving him a more subtle cue to jump in, but-

"I don't mind tagging along, but I also understand wanting to do things yourself... I won't force it if this is a personal matter."

In this, he seems to look at the possible motivations a bit more than the other two, and-

"So I'll just ask: Do you want me to come along? I'm not going to try to stop you, but I'll help, if you let me."

-a verbose answer that doesn't dance around the problem at all, in other words...

It's just his usual method of interaction with these more serious topics...

    Experience.

That was what decided the previous exchange. In combat, having plans go awry is all but par for the course. The only thing that matters is if you can pick yourself back up afterwards quickly enough. And as for the half-demon in front of me… She’s not quite there yet. Hasn’t lost enough yet, hasn’t been pressured enough yet. Of course, someone like myself certainly isn’t exempt from these rules. But she took her advantage as something guaranteed, and now that it’s been torn away, I can see the control she once had fall apart at the seams.

    Don’t stall.

Aster is right. It’s better to deal with her now than later. If we were to ignore her, only to get hampered by both her and the Knights of the Round upon exit… The sheer struggle gives me the beginnings of a headache just thinking about it.

With that idea in mind, I move.

Debilitate empowers the initial swing. If she takes it, no problem. If she blocks, I will be faster. No room for a spell so quickly. Phantasm Step the next jab. Quick, to ward off Tetrakarn. Not letting that happen again.

Regardless, those two steps put me into a position to take advantage of someone hastily defending themselves.

Once again, my body is overwhelmed in that rush of speed. To make the most of this brief moment, I won’t hold back. Aster and I have been through much more than this. If she thinks she can put me on the back foot, think again.

I’ll shatter that defense she’s so proud of with one stroke!

    Cosmos Fairchild
Rose Cross Headquarters - Hospital Wing, Cafeteria
    Monday - Noon

It was thanks to her mind short-circuiting itself that Cosmos didn't immediately follow both Miyu and Saria to the rooftops, too shocked and stunned to do anything but muse on what had happened in that single instant.

    "..."

The girl had never experienced anything like it; Even as sheltered as she is, dizziness, nausea, and even being knocked out in a single hit were things that she had experienced before, in one way or another. But the static that she experienced just now - as if her eyes suddenly stopped working on showing what's happening before her and instead showed her something else - there was no precedent for something like it.

One could say that Cosmos is currently in a trance, her mind trying to comprehend on what just happened while she herself couldn't stop thinking about the distorted view of crystals that she saw from that static, however brief and hazy.

    She wanted to see more.

    She wanted to know more.

    She wanted to--

'This is no time to be dazing off, Cosmos!'

The voice of her COMP brought her out of her trance; she was kneeling while clutching her head with her right hand - since when did she fall to her knees? - eyes staring into the open window where Miyu and Saria jumped off just a few moments ago. Then the memory finally registered in her mind, and immediately she stood up.

"Miyu had miraculously awakened and suddenly ran off. Saria chased after her." Cosmos said out loud, if only to confirm her memory and bring her focus back to the situation. "Any suggestion, Illia?"

'Judging by the speed of those two it would be difficult for us to catch up, not to mention the heavenly hosts scattered around the city should have noticed what's happening.' Her friend helpfully supplied. 'I suggest informing the hospital on what just transpired. Perhaps the base too for further orders and instruction on what to do.'

"Right. And perhaps telling Mr. Kenji that his friend woke up too, if he is still around." Cosmos added - remembering that the man said he would be around the vicinity for a while - before remembering what Illia had just done for her. "Oh, and Illia-"

    'You're welcome.'

With a small smile and a plan in mind, Cosmos took off after adjusting her hat, her spirits and determination high.

    Ludwig Karlfeldt
    SLEIPNIR ~ Flight Deck (North)
    Monday ~ Morning

---Ultimately, it's difficult for you to really bring yourself to attack her, even if you are pretty sure that her actions are leading you into a trap. Indeed, to draw her into an embrace in spite of her earlier hostility is a move that is asking to be taken advantage of, especially when her mental state seems to be teetering on the edge of snapping as it is, but...

Even so, you have to try.

While it doesn't seem like such... It could be considered an attack all it's own, an embrace that is meant to evoke earlier times, and perhaps, if you were lucky, even draw her back to your side through familial affection alone, however...

---Such things are probably naive thinking, even so...

    Even so...

    Even so...

You still have to try, and in response to that earnest effort...

    "...I see."

She speaks up for the first time since her reappearance, proving that she is at least capable of such things, and...

It's certainly her voice, a bit deeper perhaps due to the inevitable passing of time, but it's certainly a voice you would believe belongs to Lara Karlfeldt; the body doesn't feel like it's been disfigured or distorted in any obvious way, so the source of her rampaging sense of 'pain' remained a mystery to you, but... In some ways, the embrace does have the intended effect on the girl, namely...

She seems to calm down, the storm stops, but in it's place...

"You really are Ludwig then, that's unlucky..."

Her resolve seems to harden in a strange way-!

"You are a Karlfeldt, weren't we taught to be more wary than this?"

A firm reprimand, one accompanied by her forcefully pulling back from you and-

"You've still got a lot to learn, little brother..."

-sweeps both of your legs out from underneath you.

Out of the many attacks she could have performed from this position, this was perhaps the least violent of them, or at least that's what your mind wants to believe... There's no curses or other spells being channeled through the leg that seeks to knock you onto your back, it's brute physical force, something she had always had a bit more of than you but that seems to have become a more massive gap now, firmly grasping your arm in the same movement as she pulls you over her shoulder, throwing you into the air behind her-!

---In many ways, she had been your combat teacher. While officially the elders had done it, she had been your sparring partner, someone that had really grown in the art of battle alongside you, and this flow of movements... It's familiar, designed to go right through you in a way that few others could replicate... But by that same token, the throw is something you are accustomed too, body spinning reflexively to face what should be her coming after you in pursuit, but-

    She doesn't do it.

Having put as much force as her arms could muster into that throw, it seems she was determined to just get rid of you with that, turning away from you to run towards the center of the ship, and indeed...

She had aimed quite carefully, throwing your body not just towards a number of slow moving drones, but...

Well over the side of the ship.

    As if...

She was telling you to "get out of here" in the most literal manner possible...

    Raz Stone
    Forest, Treetops
    Monday - Morning

"Ngggh..!" Raz grunted under a pure strain. The charge of Matador had been such that Raz did not feel comfortable trying to duck out of the way. For starters he wasn't one hundred percent sure he knew exactly what was contained in the fog. And second, he had an innate distrust of attacks that seemed to simple. Though Matador had comported himself as honorable, even courtly, it had defeated Erika Winters who fought with intelligence and cunning. That suggested a wily and trained combat mind. so instead, he had taken the attack head on, and caught the matador's sword on the handle of the HEAT microphone and forcing the rapier point up till they stood elbow to elbow. Raz's strength enhancements lent power to his body, to a point that he felt he should have been able to easily push the matador back...

But the red layers over his hands extended to his opponent. After all, he had buffed them both. Still, Raz had been trained in many forms of combat, and he was well aware of the short comings of a rapier. While it was an excellent weapon properly utilized against knights who tended to use heavier armor, piercing through the smaller openings in such rather then trying to batter through, this came with a significant down side. Rapier's were only dangerous at the tip. Unlike heavier swords which almost invariably had at least one sharp edge along the side, a rapier required a thrust to deal damage. Magic obviously could change this and the Bard had little doubt a combatant of Matador's skill likely had a few tricks related to such, but Raz was a support COMP user. what he lacked in straight offense or defense he made up for in information acquisition.

To put that another way, he could fight without having to spend time worrying about unknowns, relying on the DTG program to sniff out enemy tricks and traps.

At any rate, with the Matador locked up and his blade more or less trapped between their bodies, it must have seemed an excellent time for a counter attack. despite the fog, they were fighting on Raz's own turf. He had a pretty good idea of what was happening in the immediate area. Which is how he sensed as much as saw Erika Winters gathering herself. That was expected. The tactical squire had been freed to engage, therefor broke no rules of chivalry, and she would certainly recognize the opportunity.

So it must have been quite the surprise when Raz held out his off hand palm outstretched.

"Hold" he called in a lilting voice. "You misunderstand." Raz said next, this to the Matador. With all his strength he pushed the Matador back, white boots sliding on the stage, kicking up forest dust as they did.

"The magic? That was just a little service to my lovelies in the front row. You should always make the crowd feel involved in the action!"

Are you about to start monologing again? What have I told you about bumping gums in a fight?!"

Shut up and start building a pattern of behavior. We have less then 30 seconds, I need an opening. Get me one.

Your floozy Erika was about to...
At that the DTG sighed, likely realizing the pointlessness of the argument. "Ill be in the lab, flatfoot."

With the DTG utilizing his skills to Decode the enemy, Raz turned his attentions to the same. "Don't be jealous Baby. I may be showboating for the crowd, but this little dance here, its just the two of us...!"

"Now then..." Raz said, looking at his hand's newest decoration, as the timer continued to click. "I would have preferred to play with you all night, but if you want to skip the foreplay well..."

Raz switched the HEAT microphone to his other hand, holding it up in the air with the red sigils showing clearly. His very demeanor rebuffed the idea that it represented an unwinnable situation. Instead, from the DTG's mic, a rush of white magic ripped out, lashing into him, the onlookers, and yes, once more, the Matador, causing the colors of red and green which had been beginning to fade to reform, becoming just and vibrant as they had been in the moment of casting.

"Well then...I'll sign an autograph in your blood...!" Raz moved through the fog, a blur of red and green lights pushing back against the darkness, his dance like moments a blur in the darkness. Raz knew that there speed stats were nearly identical. Raz should have slightly more speed, but having buffed Matador that had been nullified. The Matador might have slightly better battle awareness, but the DTG's guidance countered such. In other words, there was the potential for quite a satisfying battle of near equals. Still, what with the time constraint...

Dont mean to rush you, but seriously, there isn't much time, don't miss your Que.

Shut it flatfoot, you want the suc made, you cant rush science, The DTG appeared at the edges of Raz's vision, holding a pair of beakers that he was carefully tipping one drop by drop into the other.

Guess that leaves me to put on the opening act...

Raz thought, clutching the microphone and charging forward, readying an overhand blow. Getting in close was the proper way to fight against that rapier. Exchanging blows in a slugging match was not Raz's favorite way to fight, but the closer and more heated the fight became, the easier it would be for the DTG to understand Matador and open up the right moment to strike.

Only gonna get one shot but...just you wait baby, when the time is right, I'll definitely sing my hardest for you...!

    "...Ah."

    It was somewhat ironic.

If she had decided to be this aggressive earlier in the battle, she likely would have been able to defeat you, but as things were now, the only sound the maid can make at your approach is a light gasp of disbelief, yes...

While her defense was sky-high while in her chosen battlefield, her house of cards was falling down, and she seemed to lack the combat experience necessary to really roll with the punches now that she was being pushed back... The first blow is parried with a lance of steel, torn haphazardly from the floor with her copied speed, desperation giving her an edge that she had lacked in the earlier moments of the fight; a second blow follows the first however, faster, a thrust at her hand that forces her to drop her weapon by destroying the tendons in her hand, although she is able to retreat from the exchange a heartbeat later in a burst of flash truth, but-

---Even that is expected, and thus you had appeared before her in a flash once more; a glint of steel heralding a blow made with all of your strength, the flash of a Knight's blade that rends the darkness, and-

    "...Ah-!"

---If she had been calmer, she would have been able to deal with it better. She is by no means unintelligent, she would not have been able to live with herself as that man's partner if she hadn't been able to assist him in all matters of his life... But the panic has set in, the desperation that had given her a burst of speed has also clouded her thoughts, and thus a number of things she could have done to avoid this last blade all become little more than fantasy as she misses her opportunities for each and every one of them...

She could have retreated into the hall of spikes to hamper your effective speed by introducing the threat of self impalement, accepted that she would be hit the first time through and interrupt your chain of spells by powering through the first bit of it, or...

    Or...

Endless options filter through her thoughts, and all of them are meaningless now...

---Ultimately, she is forced to recognize it's her own fault.

She hadn't trusted enough in her own power to fight you properly... While she did excel in defense, she should have taken advantage of the situation when she had you trapped, but her fear of Joker's legend, as well as her fear of failure in this instance, had hampered her ability to just believe in herself and take some risks to end the battle early...

Now, she finds herself at the end of a blade that will end the battle, coming at her so fast that no spell can be cast in response to it.

    "..."

    And it's true...

In this instance, her mind cannot think clearly enough to process any formulas, especially not when she's been caught on the tail end of another one... Spells themselves are typically complex, much more so than natural supernatural abilities, and in those terms, there is nothing she can do in the heartbeat before she is struck down other than brace for the impact, but-

    "....Ah...AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"

-instinct takes over, as desperation activates a power that is not a 'spell.'

The crimson mist, or rather, the tangible form her spiritual power took upon being released from her body. The uses of it before had been controlled, measured, to ensure she didn't burn through her stamina fighting you too quickly, but now...

Not only has she realized the flaw in that thinking, there is no longer a point to holding back against you.

---She is going to lose anyway.

While she doubts she will die from this strike, she had already weakened herself enough through magic use that darkness was beginning to appear at the edges of her vision... Of course it is not entirely spiritual exhaustion, she is feeling some slight effects of oxygen deprivation as well, but the main point of all of this remains the same...

---In this instance, she is not sure she will be able to endure that attack.

No, even if she does, she'll be crippled to the point where fighting will be difficult.

If that is the case, she will hit you with everything she has right here; if she will lose consciousness either way, than she will always choose the path that might take you along with her-!

All she has to do is release all the power in her body, the energy itself will do the rest, yes...

That girl's body explodes with crimson force the moment you strike her, and a red tidal-wave carries you away from her in a manner similar to a malevolent wraith-!

---Of course, one's spiritual power is an extension of themselves. If one feels strongly enough, the reiki itself could take on properties that reflect those feelings... Such things are typically rare, but considering how her demonic power appeared to revolve around the manipulation of her special type of spiritual power... Well...

You can't say you're surprised to find that it feels like falling directly into lava, as a malevolent 'force' does it's best to tear everything it can from your body. Ordinarily this would be the worst case scenario, akin to getting hit with the girl's "Trump Card," but considering the conceptual protections that come with the "Joker" auto skill, this magic that would ordinarily start ripping out things like "identity" and "knowledge," is instead limited to simply draining your spiritual and life energies like a poison...

One that will heal your enemy just as much as it harms you.

---If you had been your average Tamer this might have been it. The excruciating pain would have been enough to render the majority of them unconscious, or stunned them long enough that they wouldn't have been able to put up a fight against being "drained," or would lack an idea of how to resist in the first place, but---

You are far from average, and if there was one thing you had learned over time...

It was that few things couldn't be 'cut.'

Spiritual phenomena can interact with spiritual phenomena, not only that, due to her 'power' having a more ingrained presence in the world, to the point where it could manifest as limbs and cause physical interference -as a screaming red shape that had wrapped it's hands around your neck- the idea that you could 'cut' it with your own spirit-charged strikes isn't one that seems impossible, and indeed-

---While you cannot disrupt the whole mass, that which has grasped you, that which is attempting to throttle you...

A single stroke destroys it's 'arms' and allows you to retreat on shaking -but determined- limbs, the detached limbs fading away to nothing; if this was truly just controlled spiritual power made physically manifest, the length of time it could be active would assuredly be limited, so all you had to do was wait it out or knock out the user, but-

That too proves to be unnecessary, as the feminine 'shape' disperses soon after you escape from it's grasp.

    The cause?

The unconscious girl in the distance, one who had been impaled through the stomach by one of her own 'spikes,' but that was now lying on the floor unconscious.

---In the moment of impact, the release of spiritual power had dulled 'cutting' force enough that it had become more blunt... The explosion of power had been akin to a shield in other words, but the force behind it had still sent her flying back into the distance, where she had seemingly been run straight through by the remains of her previous attacks.

Even in that position of uncompromising pain, she had continued to order her little 'wraith' to attack and throttle you, fighting off the darkness of unconsciousness with nothing more than the dregs of life energy she was managing to drain from you, but breaking free from it had proved to be too much for her pain tolerance and she had fallen unconscious shortly after pulling herself from the spikes, leaving the 'force' without a director, and thus...

    A now silent battlefield.

    ---Even these wounds aren't fatal.

While many of her bones were likely crushed by the Eclipse technique, and the impalement with the steel spears had left a gaping wound in her stomach, she was still a half-demon... They typically had natural regeneration powers of their own, enough that she would probably be able to awaken and heal her wounds more directly in a few hours, but considering the Tamers were already on their way here...

It was probably safe to leave her as is...

    But...

She had certainly done a number on you too... Life and Spirit energy would return with time, but...

This feeling of lightheadedness and fatigue...

That would probably be with you for the rest of this...

    Still, up ahead...

A much less combat capable target, at least...

That is what Aster's information seems to imply...

    My head. Hurts. A lot.

That attack, if I wasn’t Joker… would have stripped away everything I was. I… got off lightly due to anonymity. The maid, however, is lying on the ground, unable to pursue. That’s good.

I lean on Aster for support. Every breath is accompanied by the urge to reorient myself. If I were caught like this… It’d definitely be difficult. Immensely, back-breakingly difficult.

Status check, she says in the softest tone she can muster. It takes me a second to realize it’s Aster. Sorry, I think, though it’s a message never sent.

    Goddess of humanity?

They say that for people with concussions or recently awoken from a coma, the best way to check their mental faculties is by asking them general questions anyone could answer. It seems that Aster sees it fit to check. Don’t blame her. Want to rest. Pretty dizzy.

    Yamuna.

Leader of the Knights of the Round?

    Gabriel Levilius.

    First date?

Amusement park. I mentally sigh. That’s a personal question, Aster.

Checking if she stripped anything away from you, she says, her voice easing the pain in my brain. Well, you answered that fast, so you seem to be doing fine, miss.

Let’s just go, I say to Aster, making my way forward, quickening my pace. Need to move before the Knights get here in time. Mr. Akarana, ideally, should not be as formidable a foe as his maid. Making him confess… should be easy, hopefully, but my inner pessimist says that something will come up.
