    Cosmos Fairchild
Rose Cross Headquarters - Hospital Wing, Cafeteria
    Monday - Noon

Ultimately, it was decided to let Saria handle the re-acquisition of Miyu; while Tamers were allowed a certain level of freedom when it came to responding to various situations in the world, you were the sort that liked to call in to the main base regardless, so as to better ensure that everything you do is by the book... Perhaps because you wished to keep any rumors about you from getting stuck on Mary?

Regardless, catching them would have been difficult, so you had made the report of the incident in Saria's place; of course there is little the hospital can directly do about an escaped patient, but informing them that one of their coma patients had decided to take a dive out of the one of the windows in an attempt to escape is something that seems like common courtesy at the very least...

An obligation really, considering who and what you were, but...

It seems you were going to miss some of the excitement, Saria was apparently teaming up with some of the angels to ensure Miyu's return, but you won't be able to see how that plays out with your own eyes...

---Then again, that sort of thing might be for the best.

Because... You've been feeling kind of tired ever since the incident in the hospital room, although it got worse once you were away from anyone else...

The static incident, something that had seemed to linger in your thoughts far more than a hallucination should, and that had started to feel like an almost tangible weight on your shoulders, something that hadn't been too bothersome at first as you wandered around informing key people about the situation, but one that was dragging at you mentally now, as if you had been 'infected' with something the moment you had met Miyu's gaze earlier, but...

    That's silly, or rather...

You definitely would have noticed something like that happening to you, realistically speaking...

It was an afternoon slump, that dreaded period in the early afternoon where one's body does it's best to convince you a nap would be a great idea... You hadn't been sleeping particularly well lately either, so that fatigue coming back to haunt you wasn't particularly surprising, still-!

Doing your best to resist it, you sit down for a moment to better rub your eyes, and in that instant-

-the static comes back, and your mind falls away.

    ---

---It's rare for your dreams to become lucid, so rare that you can confidently say that it's never happened to you.

What does Cosmos Fairchild dream about? It's nothing particularly complex most of the time, your early life with Mary, assignments with friends, mishaps at a school that only exists inside of your mind, stars in the sky, a massive ocean...

    Really...

There are limitless topics, limitless answers.

---But today, as a daydream... It's odd...

Odd because you slowly begin to realize it's a dream as it goes on...

Odd because you watch yourself acting strangely inside of your own dream, as if you were disconnected from yourself somehow?

Regardless... You -at least you think it's you- are walking in a garden alongside someone whose features are difficult to discern... It's not their clothes that make it difficult, rather, their form is illuminated by a light so bright that you can't really pierce through it with your eyes, still...

You get the feeling that you know who it is, and that his existence doesn't bother you.

    Yes...

The feeling you get from 'you' as you regard this person is a similar feeling to what you would manifest around Mary... It's like watching someone interact with a beloved teacher, yes...

That sort of description... That feels right...

He asks you questions, his voice sounds familiar... But you can't really place it...

Even so, 'you' answer all of them without hesitation...

    And...

To you that seems odd, or rather, when you see yourself (?) talking with him, it strikes you as something you would not do, but...

Dreams are strange, people will often do things in dreams that they wouldn't actually do in reality, even so...

It bothers you for a reason you can't explain, thus:

"...So tell me, my disciple. Where are you now? It's been some time since we were able to speak."

    When that person asks this...

You find yourself in the position of 'yourself,' no longer watching from afar, now the star of that person's attention...

It's like waking up, suddenly throwing off the devil-may-care attitude that often appears in people inside of their dreams. People are willing to simply accept what happens inside of their own head, and yet when you had heard this question, and had felt 'yourself' start to answer...

A part of "Cosmos Fairchild" had rebelled, as if...

    As if...

Instinctively... You felt it was a question that shouldn't be answered.

    "Is something the matter?"

A gentle voice -male- that would instinctively convince others to trust it, but...

    No...

Even if this situation is bizarre... Something inside of you says not to...

Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stilled and the actors leave the stage, the story will never truly end.

Regardless of the form it takes, as long as there are memories of it's existence, the story will continue on.

In a small ward in the heart of a once devastated town, life carries on as it always has...

    Because of you.

    Please, remember it warmly.

We'll continue to walk down this path for eternity.

    Cosmos "Fairchild"
    ???
    ???

Familiar, yet alien. Real, yet unreal.

Dreams are such a weird thing for Cosmos Fairchild. She knew that dreams are merely something produced by the mind, made from both one's knowledge and experience; thus, it isn't strange for her dreams to be mostly about her life, about what she had experienced during the last ten years.

    ... But is that true?

Cosmos Fairchild was not a girl with many active imagination. A little bit of paranoia perhaps, but aside from that and her faith in God, she's a relatively grounded girl in reality, all things considered. There's no grand dream or wish to speak of, nor anything extraordinary that she wanted to impose on anyone.

    That's why...

It's strange that some of her dreams doesn't make sense.

    Like right now.

Seeing the (male) person who is walking with herself (?) in the garden, his form illuminated by a light so bright that she couldn't discern his features, is not something she had ever experienced. No, in the first place this is the first time she was truly aware that she is in a dream before waking up, and this is also the first time she felt so disconnected from her body; seeing herself (?) acting in a way unlike herself, with someone who somehow instills a similar feeling in herself that only her mother could do...

    Ah.

But that was wrong; this isn't the first time she saw someone like him. It was a long time ago, but Cosmos could never had forgotten it.

    Because...

Illia was like this too, back when she first came to be.

She remembered thinking it was strange. She also remembered Illia gave her a possible explanation on why she appears that way, and indeed as time passed her features became clearer and clearer until she became like any other COMP AI, so the explanation for that had been put in the back of her mind since then.

    But she had never forgotten.

She knew the possible implication of this dream, of this encounter with an unknown man that somehow gave her a sense of comfort like Mary does; after all, before everything else in her memory, there was a single thing that is etched into her soul.

    Her name.

And she could feel that side of her wanting to answer this man, illuminated in white.

But right now - and for the last ten years - she is Cosmos Fairchild, daughter of Mary. And this side of her, her present self, instinctively knew that she shouldn't answer his question.

    That's why...

"I'm sorry." She answered while looking at the man's eyes - or at least where she thought his eyes were. "But Cosmos Fairchild cannot answer that question."

    She could resolutely said no.

    Because, if nothing else...

Cosmos Fairchild's faith in both God and Mary is unshakable, even if deep within herself, she knew she's betraying something fundamental in herself.

    "I see."

While this man has the innate aura of someone who is rarely defied, he also doesn't seem to get particularly upset at your answer.

"Cosmos Fairchild is it? I see, that's what happened... Yes, very well, I apologize for prying."

Perhaps because he got your name from the exchange anyway...?

Yes. While your answer had been a safe one, one that had refused to divulge your location in spite of the odd compulsion you had felt to answer him, you had been forced to invoke your own 'name' to give you the strength to do it... Yes, Cosmos Fairchild would not answer, she had the strength to resist answering this person if she felt she needed too, but...

By using your name, you had also provided this person with that same name.

...Whether or not such a thing was a mistake... Was difficult to tell...

Because despite your suspicions, the odd instinctual impulses that seemed to be guiding you in this encounter, you can't seem to hold any real sense of hostility or paranoia towards this man for any length of time... His voice was charismatic, perfectly kind and gentle, the sort of charismatic voice one would expect a a Great King or Messiah to hold, one that compels others to follow after them with but a few words, and makes it seem like this person completely understands you in spite of your own confusion...

Yes, it's an attractive voice, a natural charisma that's so overwhelming it has to be supernatural in nature...

    Perhaps that is why...

"Knowing you are alright is enough for me, while my belief has never faltered, I will admit I was beginning to worry about all of you."

You can't stop yourself from walking alongside him...

His footsteps have never once ceased, and consequently, you have also continued to follow along at his side as if it was natural for you to do so... In this you can't resist, while "Cosmos Fairchild" seems to be able to speak how she would like, the body itself seems to have it's own agenda that you're having a hard time resisting...

    Still, it's but a dream.

While you are aware that you are dreaming, there are bound to be aspects of it that you can't control in spite of that awareness...

But this compelled walk gives you time to examine your surroundings, while the first impression of the Garden was that of the a picturesque Eden you would see on some of the paintings inside of the Vatican, the trees here are not organic, at least not anymore...

They are trees that have been converted into crystals, or perhaps been covered by crystals?

It's an image that reminds you of what you had seen through the earlier static haze, although the clarity with which you see them now reveals that they truly are like fluorite, being that they come in many different colors; the colors themselves seem dependent on whatever they were covering up, the crystal 'leaves' of the nearby trees being a brilliant green color, but-

The garden soon gives way to a balcony that overlooks a crystal city, and unlike the garden...

It comes across as simply blue, lacking the variety the garden held, and extending off into what seemed like a distant fog...

There's something like a sun in the sky, but you're sure it's not the sun, and...

Behind you, there are eight marble chairs... Or perhaps it would be simpler to call them thrones?

They are not sized normally, with the shortest of them being a good ten meters off the ground... The tallest one was strange in that it held two seats, that it was designed for two people to sit side by side, and...

    Ah.

    That's right, that's his chair.

For himself and his 'sword,' the highest chair, on thrones that were designed to overlook the 'world.'

    What does that mean?

...It's hard for you to say.

    "It's quiet, but peaceful."

Ignoring those chairs, the man walks over to the balcony and gestures over the city, as if imploring you to look out this way again, and-

"Quite beautiful too, wouldn't you say, Cosmos Fairchild?"

Cosmos was prepared for a variety of responses; anger, disappointment, perhaps even retaliation. Whatever the case, when she refused the man's request, the girl was definitely prepared for some kind of a negative consequence.

The fact that the man had let it go so easily - no, the fact that the man seems to be more relieved and concerned about her well-being rather than her impudence and disobedience...

Really reminds her of her own mother...

That's why she keeps on walking while turning her face away from the man, ashamed of having to refuse such a simple request; the part of her that was not "Cosmos Fairchild" felt an incredible guilt equal to one that "Cosmos Fairchild" would have felt if she did the same to Mary's request. Who was she to act in such a manner to someone that held no ounce of anger or disappointment in her?

Moreover, Cosmos instinctively knew that this man is someone she knew. Someone whom the other her treasured more than any other, even if she herself doesn't remember. So even if this is a dream, this body that seemingly doesn't belong to "Cosmos Fairchild" keeps on walking with the man, as if wanting to bask in his presence as long as she could...

Eventually, the garden gave way to a balcony that overlooks a crystal city - one that she saw for a few moments in the waking world - and Cosmos found herself speechless as she took in the view: the crystal-blue city, the star shining in the sky which she instinctively knew is not the sun, and perhaps more importantly the eight thrones which so naturally drawn her eyes towards them.

Just by a glance, Cosmos understood two simple facts.

One is that the highest throne belong to the man and his "sword," the throne which is designed to overlook this world.

The second is that she can say with absolute certainty that one of the seven other thrones belongs to her; she doesn't know which one is hers, but the feeling she's experiencing is so powerful that there is no room for doubt in her mind for this fact. One could say that this place is intimately familiar, to the point that she's experiencing deja vu just by being in its vicinity.

    "It's quiet, but peaceful."

With that single phrase, the man had easily torn her attention away from the thrones, as if her body automatically obeys every single word that he said. At his gesture, Cosmos found her eyes looking at the crystal-blue city again.

"Quite beautiful too, wouldn't you say, Cosmos Fairchild?"

    Ah.

He called her Cosmos Fairchild, despite knowing her real name.

Something that Mary would have done too, if she were in his position.

Immediately, her body experienced a strong sense of revulsion; a natural response for a body who knew that her true name was different from the one the man had just said. It took everything that Cosmos Fairchild had to resist the drive to correct the man and implore him to call her by her true name, because she knew that if she does, then she might lose her identity as "Cosmos Fairchild."

So she resisted it, clinging into the memory of her mother despite every fiber of her being wanting to just let it all go to be with this man, someone who can certainly be called a messiah...

"It is beautiful." She admitted before turning her gaze into the man once again. "But has it always been this way...? Where are the other six? And... and..."

...But that doesn't mean she managed to resist everything.

The words got caught in her throat. She wanted to ask who he is; what is the relationship between them; what should she call him; why was she sent away from this place...

But the body refused, for while the mind belongs to Cosmos Fairchild, the body does not. It cannot accept further insolence and disobedience, for how could she have forgotten? How could she had the gall to question anything about the man?

So nothing came out, and after a few seconds...

    "... I'm sorry."

Cosmos could do naught but apologize, her cheeks faintly flushed red from the shame of everything she had done in this precious encounter that felt like a far-off dream.

    Akarana Estate ~ Laboratory
    Monday - Afternoon/Evening

The heart of the underground complex proves to be something akin to a laboratory, a shining land of sterile silver, it's walls and floors glowing with the azure lights of dozens of active monitors.

While it's a bit of a manifest cliche, the first thought that comes to mind at the sight of it is that it's the secret laboratory of a mad scientist... Of course such a conclusion is easy to reach, considering it's placement on the estate, as well as the sheer strength of the defenses that you had been forced to overcome to even get here, but there's something about the atmosphere -as well as the contents of the screens- that lends credence to this idea as well... While this sort of thing was typically best left to Laplace, you do take the time to quickly through some of the screens and terminals on your way through the labs in search of Akarana... From the looks of it, there were a few main "topics" that were being studied here, such as the 'data' of various demons while they were in the middle of using magic, specifically, it seems that what was being sought after here was a way to replicate conceptual phenomena through technology, not only that...

There were various mentions of communications between Akarana and a third part, as well as mentions of the "Master System," otherwise known as the "Original COMP."

---Information about it was limited even to Tamers, but it was essentially a "super COMP" that was capable of all-encompassing conceptual interference, and whose incomplete schematics had been used to create the current COMP generation... In other words, it was a spiritual computer that could effectively warp reality to one's whims if someone had managed to master it; naturally, it was something that had been destroyed by humans shortly after they discovered it, the theorized reason being the fear of what would happen if someone were to decide to use it as a weapon, but...

The actual files he has on it are heavily encrypted, which is somewhat disappointing, but there's a sort of picture you can put together here even without diving into his files...

    Still...

"...Joker. Tell me, what do you gain out of these raids?"

The sight of your opponent, as well as the sound of his voice, draws your attention directly to him as he appears through a door on the other side of the room, as if knowing it was pointless to try and hide now that it had come to all of this...

"Are you really an ally of justice? Something so foolish as that? Or does this stem from a personal distortion? I can't help but be curious."

While his tone is calm, it's a forced calm that is different from the calm he had manifested earlier in the day, likely a result of his understanding of what must have happened if you had made your way here lighting a vengeful fire in his heart, but...

What draws your attention even more than that...

---Is the COMP strapped to his wrist. While there is no 'generic' design for the devices, there is something about this one that marks it as clearly strange, and a closer inspection at it's core reveals not a confined demon soul or a plume of dusk, but...

    Some sort of gradient crystal...

    Akarana Estate ~ Laboratory
    Monday - Afternoon/Evening

My head’s cleared up a bit better now. I’m just tired, but I still have fight left in me.

Walking through the laboratory, I’m impressed by the sheer volume of what lies within. How many people were bribed to cover this up? Did the electrical companies believe that the power consumption of this mansion was normal for its size? There’s no way there isn’t some level of negligence, willful or otherwise, going on. And getting away with this much just makes me sick to my stomach.

For wrongs to exist, people must look away. Not all people are brave, I’ll readily admit, but even so… Though I’ve idolized heroes all my life, I think it’s better if people try to save themselves first and foremost.

But that’s an unimportant tangent. What’s more important is all this information on Akarana’s research into the Master System. Trying to replicate it seems just like kind of plan his type would have. The pursuit of power without consequence. Hardly original, but it appeals to people nonetheless.

"...Joker. Tell me, what do you gain out of these raids?"

"Are you really an ally of justice? Something so foolish as that? Or does this stem from a personal distortion? I can't help but be curious."
It seems he’s also realized the futility of hiding. At the end of it all, I will force out the truth from him. His crimes must come to light—this entire mission would be a failure otherwise. And though his COMP may be unique, probably loaded with something experimental gleaned from the results of his research, it’s definitely beatable. I doubt he’s as effective in combat as his maid was.

“A bit of column A, a bit of column B,” I answer, taking the matter lightly. Though I don’t know about the other members of Joker, obviously, for me… I’ve always been an ally of justice. Always strove to be one, even when I was young. And that, I suppose, is where the distortion lies. Realistically speaking, people are fickle creatures.

The amount of people like myself who have put everything they had into a childhood dream, without doubting it once… I think you could call them distorted in a way, even if that isn’t the type of distortion he’s talking about.

Still, despite all these thoughts, I watch his wrist. I get the feeling there will be one last act of rebellion.

“Just give up and turn yourself in. I’m certain there will be some level of leniency granted for you,” I say, hoping these words do not fall on deaf ears. I’d rather not fight if I can avoid it. Especially in this state.

“If you insist on struggling, however, I’ll make sure to beat every ounce of resistance out of you.”

But I won’t offer mercy to those who won’t take it.

    SLEIPNIR ~ Flight Deck (South)
    Monday ~ Morning

Rather than oppose the impact of a meteor, you seek to strike in the heartbeat after it's descent.

Considering the nature of it's magic, and how difficult it was to tell exactly how much power was being packed into it's attacks, the idea of opposing it head-on in a contest of brute force was always out of the question... But placing your faith in a feint, that the enemy might believe you are willing to do something so reckless, you wait until the last possible moment to evade it, zipping out of the path of the blade as it slams straight into the hull of the SLEIPNIR-!

From the start it hadn't been a trick in and of itself, it was a full power blow that was seemingly meant to simply cleave right through you; while there is certainly a possibility that a magical attack could make a sharp turn to pursue it's opponent even at the last second, the sound of it slamming into the steel of the ship reveals this is not the case, and thus your eyes drift back to your opponent the moment the impact is confirmed, aware that if you don't strike soon, your opponent will have a chance to escape the air and reorient himself on the ground, before that happens you have to strike, preying on what you hoped to be hesitation for your divine spear to strike true, however-

As you manifest it, something slams into you from the side.

---It's a wave of air, and the pressure behind it is like that of a hammer.

The cause isn't another hidden assassin, rather, it is the true point of your opponent's last attack. From the start it had been a strike that would have been foolhardy to oppose directly, thrown with not just it's horrendously inhuman strength, but with a vacuum spell that would draw in and compress the air on the way to it's target, it is a strike that is designed to literally blow away the opponent via the release of a massive wave of air, one that would easily catch anyone that was half-hearted in their evasions-!

Considering the timing and placement necessary for your plan to work, as well as the nature of their spells you had been unable to retreat past it's effective range, and being in the middle of casting Vajra, you are unable to activate the formula in time again to dodge, no, not just that, if you had done so your opponent would have certainly reached the ground before you could recover completely, rendering all of this pointless-!

    Thus-

Rolling with the strike as it hits you, you decide to keep your focus on attacking your enemy-! While the shock-wave seems designed to throw people off balance, and would have thus resulted in your spell going off wildly, inaccurately, your enhanced perceptions serve as a targeting system in spite of your growing fatigue, and your rolling body is still able to "throw" the spear even whilst in a position of weakness-!

---Closing in on your opponent, a bizarre show of something that shouldn't be effective on it.

Certainly the Harmonizer allows for the destruction of certain forms of strategy; if an opponent happens to be resistant to one's signature spells a fight can quickly be forced out of one's favor, so to use something that has already been proved ineffective...?

In some ways, it's a solid strategy, something odd that might just require further thought, but this opponent thinks in practical terms due to it's somewhat fragile nature, and thus rather than hesitate, it assumes the best of you and decides to treat the attack as "serious."

Spirit Tamers were not foolish... If one would continue to use electricity in spite of it being ineffective, then there must be something about the spell formula itself that would change the outcome-!

That is why no hesitation appears in it's eyes, it had always planned on dodging whatever you might throw it's way while it was sky-borne; the proof of this being that it's arm has been out ever since it threw away it's blade, recalling not it's sword, but rather pulling one of the flying drones closer to it. In spite of the encryption on it's data, the way one of the circular machines zooms straight towards it is indicative of it being 'dragged' rather than coming of it's own volition, but...

Rather than use it as a shield-!

It kicks off it's surface the moment it touches it, throwing itself back up into the air, while simultaneously avoiding the spear of lightning that passes just below it, the poor machine exploding brilliantly in place of what must be it's commander-!

    Tch...

Yeah... That's a plume based A.I alright, it was adapting to the circumstances just like any experienced fighter would, and throwing it's arm out again in the same 'recall' motion, your formula senses before it sees...

The form of it's discarded sword coming straight towards your spine from behind-!

    "Turn myself in?"

Speaking slowly, almost incredulously, as if the very idea of giving up at this juncture was absurd to him, Lloyd remains standing where he is, his strange wrist computer seemingly still in it's inactive state. It's a response that's both surprising and unsurprising, at this point, many people would be trying to cut a deal to avoid being dealt their due justice, or acting in such a way as to reduce their liability, but this man...

Doesn't seem willing to do that...

    Was it pride? Or...?

"Levy gave all she had for me... And you're telling me to give up? That's quite the joke."

    Something else...

Something a bit more noble, if still rooted in villainy...

"I don't expect you to understand why I did it... There were many reasons, some of them are petty, others were more personal... There were people I needed to defeat, and one wish that I wanted to make come true... For that, I needed power that no longer exists. Do you expect me to repent just because I'm at the end of a gun? I am not so weak-willed, I did what I had to do... Not for the world, just for those that matter."

He won't squirm, nor will he cry or beg for mercy.

Now that he's been caught, he's being brutally honest in a surprising way...

"There's no point to an ineffectual justice, you are simply someone who will fight forever, struggling against a tide that will not change... I have no interest in that distorted struggle, but... It does seem like all of my work ends here..."

His gaze raises, just a bit...

"They say Joker always defeats it's targets, and I'm sure evidence is being collected right now... I suppose I'll be the first of the Akarana to fall... A clever ploy by them I suppose, to weaponize Joker against me."

    He shakes his head, then:

"Even so, my company might fall, my name might become mud, but I can still start over with her at my side."

Says something that might as well be a declaration of war, telling you right to your face that he doesn't care if you try to beat him down... He'll just walk right over you in response...

"I'm sure you know I'm not much of a fighter, but I didn't spend my time in here doing nothing... I can't beat you, but I was able to make something that can-!"

    "Gah... Hah... HAAAAAAH!"

At these words, the COMP on his arm surges to life.

---Immediately, you are able to tell that it's too much for him to handle... Military grade COMPs are no joke, the backlash that comes from even equipping one without being of a certain level is strength is a very real danger, and even in the best case scenario, someone who was qualified to use a base-level military COMP would still find themselves overwhelmed by A COMP of a stronger spiritual disposition, a COMP was only safe to use if the User was of equivalent strength, so...

When light of many colors begins to radiate from his body as rampant spirit power, you're almost convinced that he had effectively killed himself simply by turning it on-!

It's an absurd intensity, a pressure that is clearly coming from whatever the hell he had used as it's core, and the rampaging energies thrash out as dozens of whips at you as Akarana visibly attempts to get it all under control, but he falls to one knee soon enough, the light around him becoming so thick it was almost like he was being swallowed by it, but...

---He glances up at a screen, as if seeking strength from something...

On that screen... Is the unconscious form of his lover, someone who will certainly fall if he does not prevail here...

---And that's all the motivation his spirit seems to need-!

    Lloyd Akarana
    Will + 50
    ??? Activated-!

    "Okay... I can... Handle this...!"

The storm of spiritual power calms itself, and a man rises to his feet once more, cloaked in an inferno of light that's assuredly still tearing his body apart, albeit at a much slower pace...

    ---He must be in agony.

Even so, the expression on his face is that of an absolute resolve, and the pressure...

That pressure easily dwarfs that of the maid...

    "Activate Formula: God's Word."

Although if he can't really handle that power... How dangerous could he possibly be?

---It's a foolish question that you don't bother to ask yourself, when humans really needed to be...

They were the most dangerous entities around-!

"Your attacks will be rendered completely ineffective. Come at me whenever you'd like, Joker."

And his statement, made right after the audible activation of a spell formula...

    Is a bold statement indeed...

    Lloyd watches you carefully...

    Blaise Pendragon
    (Fleeing from) Aoyama Gakuen
    Monday - Morning

Ten minutes later, and the threat of a certain Dr. Bern begins to feel like a distant memory...

Many companions had come and gone over the course of a few hours (most of them victims of the nurse), but by that same token, it had also become a chain of events that allowed you to once again break your ties to the school building... Noriko wouldn't be very impressed about the fact that you had abandoned her admittedly, but seeing as how she had fallen asleep on your planned hang-out, you were more than prepared to throw her own pseudo-negligence right back in her face-!

Other than remarks about her true age, it was probably the only real ammo you'd get for awhile-!

    Still...

Where Aoyama had been flooded with students heading for the academy, Aoyama's midday crowd was more the domain of the young adult or carefree demon, those who were looking to find some form of entertainment in their free time; movie theaters, magi-tech shops, restaurants, batting cages... At it's core this town was still an entertainment district, even if it's fame as the "town where the magic started" was more prevalent nowadays, yes...

In this place, the sight of a group of Jack Frosts selling ice-cream (at a somewhat ludicrous price) wasn't particularly out of place, it was the usual Aoyama, a perfect blend of the supernatural with the mundane, where those humans that would have been shocked at all the blatant magical creatures and activity going on around them, would look at the same thing now and treat it as a simple background incident, something that needs no more real thought than kids playing sports would have before you were born, yes...

To you this is normal, but to this girl, someone who claimed to have lived here once in the past...

    "...Those snowmen were selling ice-cream..."

She's staring at everything with eyes that are remarkably full of wonder, the stoic-face she had been putting up until now falling away to reveal a more true "curiosity" about the world around her, a curiosity so strong in fact...

"And they're selling merchandise for a Goddess... An idol Goddess..."

...That she pays inordinate amounts of attention to what doesn't seem like such a big deal to you. By Goddess Merchandise she must have been talking about Yamuna, who was more or less this ward's patron saint. Her popularity was about as explosive as an idol's popularity could be expected to be, to the point where stopping people knocking over stands of her merchandise to steal and sell was more or less a daily activity for you, but...

Like everything else, this all really seems to baffle more...

Yamuna was popular even outside Aoyama, so... Where had she been hiding?

    Under a rock?

"Although this place was always strange, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised..."

While it's a bit annoying for you that she keeps stopping to give things a glance over, the sudden child-like serenity that exists in her expressions makes it difficult for you -perhaps less so for Kaguya- to really tell her to get a move on, but, just as she turns from the idol stand to follow your lead once more-

"Mr. Pendragon~ Are you around here~? I've come to retrieve you~!"

-a nightmare's voice appears in the distance.

A certain silver-haired nurse, who didn't so much as let you escape as she did give you a massive head-start in order to make the hunt fair.

Needless to say... This is a problem that brings about the urge to do something extreme again, but in this crowd she can't see you quite yet, and...

    "...You got a stalker...?"

Looking at you, and then towards the sound of the person calling your name...

The young woman tilts her head to the side again, and...

    "...Should I stall her?"

...Seems to put two and two together.

    Akarana Estate ~ Laboratory
    Monday - Afternoon/Evening

In the end, resolve, born of love, is the most powerful asset a human being can have. I think it’s quite beautiful, but love, like justice, is blind, knowing not of morality. And you see, that’s the problem I have with it right now. I don’t know why the universe is trying to tell me “love conquers all,” but I have wrongs to right. No matter what either of those two say, their words will fall on deaf ears.

Even if my crusade is endless, I will continue on. It’s all I have of the dreams I had since I was young.

What a pain in the ass.

I don’t blame Aster for not being satisfied with the current state of events. Though inevitably Akarana will have to disable the COMP due to strain, it doesn’t seem to be soon enough for me to get past this decree as I am. If my hunch is correct… then there is nothing I can do without cornering myself even further.

    It’s probably like a domain. I don’t want to test it’s limits.

We can’t stall. Knights are coming soon, probably purple.

    Probably?

It’s most likely she heads here, miss.

I sigh. Just my luck, I suppose. Well… maybe this is what we need to turn the tides. As Akarana mentioned, I technically have everything to consider this a win in Joker’s book, except for subduing the culprit… But that’s fine. Joker doesn’t need to subdue their target personally, after all.

We’re leaving. If Joker can’t land a blow on him, that doesn’t stop Ayra Lilygrove and Aster from doing so.

Roger that. I’ll send the message that we’re already on-site.

“Sorry to say, but I’m refusing that invitation. As you’ve said, I’ve basically done everything I needed to. While taking you down a notch would be lovely, I’m afraid it’s not worth my time.” With a sarcastic bow to sign off, I retreat from the laboratory.

Retracing my steps is simple, but I don’t have the luxury of time. I bolt past the fallen maid—Levy, my brain adds now that I’ve learned her name—and into the thoroughly ruined hallway, where any traces of cameras would have no doubt been destroyed.

It’s only in that corridor of mangled steel that I finally drop the Auto-Skill that got me this far.

Rest here for a bit. Telling them we encountered Joker. It’ll explain your fatigue, at least.

Load Preset #3 and Ghost Drive. I’m going to have to lean on whomever shows up.

I take a moment to collect myself. All in all, the situation isn’t too terrible… But I still dislike the fact I had to retreat, albeit temporarily. Waiting here though… it’s still somewhat suspicious nonetheless. But there has to be some time for the lie to make sense, so I pointlessly bash Aster against the steel walls, hoping the clanging of steel flies as the semblance of a conflict.

Aster: Easy, easy, it’s just for show.
Aster: We haven't lost the target yet.

Aster decides now is the moment to switch to text again. Reading makes the slight fuzziness in my head worse, but I asked for these arrangements, anyhow. It’s not her fault, I remind myself. I let out a sigh, an exhausted, ragged breath that seems to kick Aster into high alert.

Aster: If it’s too much, I can always request—

I’m going to check on the maid now, and then proceed forward. I’m fine.

Aster makes no comment as I return to the scene of my crime, running up to Levy as if I wasn’t the one who put her in that sorry state. With that COMP attached, Akarana shouldn’t be able to move very quickly with the strain, but what’s important here is that I know there is a camera nearby. And though I’m merely doing what any Knight would do, checking her pulse and breathing, the bare basics, I pray that I can lure Akarana here.

He wouldn’t leave her alone with a stranger. He wants to leave with her, after all.

And then I can show him what I can do unfettered.

    Monday ~ Morning

Moron! Imbecile! Retard! What the hell are you doing, taking it easy the moment you get one hit in! What, you think you’re a flawless hero who never looks at explosions! NO! You’re a weakling! Never forget that, you damn murderer!

Hatred, shame, pain, and exhaustion roiled in Logan as he thudded onto the deck, his strength and pride wasted on mere fodder. He’d wasted a chance for further pressure by overextending, and now he was paying the cost. He deserved it. No he didn’t. There wasn’t anything to deserve, this was just the natural consequences of his actions. The world didn’t care about dues, depression, or despair - and neither did his enemy.

Logan threw himself into a sideways roll to dodge the enemy’s return blow and pushed himself to his feet, palm outstretched to fire a blast of Maeiha at his foe. It wouldn’t hit, he knew that full well, but if it forced a response then it had done its job. As the black fire rippled through the sky, Logan tugged at Amelia, sending her flying back to his grasp - whether the assassin was in its way or not.

    Blaise Pendragon
    (Fleeing from) Aoyama Gakuen
    Monday - Morning

    It was... strange.

Just where had this girl lived if she found something like the daily life of Aoyama a thing to be baffled about, a thing to be surprised about? What was wrong with Jack Frosts selling ice cream (other than their ridiculous prices), what was wrong with the merchandise of a certain Idol Goddess (whose existence had for some reason always made his father make a sour expression), what was wrong with... this normal daily life that the blonde boy was so accustomed to? No, perhaps the right word wasn't wrong, but instead "amazing". Indeed, what was amazing in all of this? Wasn't this simply normal?

    Baffling. Absolutely baffling.

And in that sense, Blaise Pendragon found himself baffled by this girl, this Tsukiko Aido, just as much as she was baffled by the city around them.

As the girl kept staring at the various forms of entertainment that Aoyama had to offer, Blaise found himself staring at her and her antics with a sort of growing confusion. It wasn't a bad feeling at all, just something he hadn't expected to ever witness. Indeed, someone being so curious about his hometown... it rather filled him with a sense of weird pride. He was an Aoyama Boy through and through, so for someone to look like they had never seen anything like it before stirred some patriotic emotions within him.

But it also made him wonder. About the girl and where she had lived.

Had his guess been right? Was her complexion and outwards appearance truly the sign of some sort of illness?

Perhaps... was she someone who didn't often venture beyond the confines of a hospital?

    "............ Mm."

Blaise rubbed his chin, giving a wondering stare at the invisible Kaguya who had been surprisingly quiet this whole walk while giving a stink-eye to the four-eyed girl (making it five eyes?) the whole time. There was no answer to be found in the COMP AI's rough appearance, but at least he didn't have to stare at Tsukiko Aido like a creep.

Wearing odd clothes and implying she didn't have anything else to wear, wandering around the city she had lived in that she still didn't recognize, looking so pale she might as well been a ghost... there was a small hypothesis growing in Blaise's head. A hypothesis or a story about a person confined in a hospital thanks to her condition, borrowing an outfit from someone, maybe a friend, to act as a disguise so she could sneak out of the said hospital to visit an old home of hers and meet someone related to her.

It was just a story he cooked up in his head and didn't necessarily believe. But it was there. And it made his edge and suspicion of the curious girl disappear, little-by-little.

... Besides, how could he have been wary who seemed to be so honestly, genuinely amazed by the town in which he lived?

    And with that.

The somewhat nice and slightly enjoyable atmosphere that had been growing was smashed to innumerable fragments by the battle-cry of a predator.

    "-------!"

Blaise whirled around, digging his heels to the ground. There. She hadn't seen them yet, but that damn Mad Scientist was still after him. This was all but a game to her and thus, she had let him get a headstart, lull himself into a sense of comfortable ease... and now she was here to yank that carpet from under him. The boy didn't want to know just what the hell the doctor had planned for him and these supposed tests she had been talking about... and he wasn't about to stay and find out.

He could have escaped on his own.

But that still left one other problem.

    Namely...

    Her.

"... No. She's not the type to get distracted once she catches the scent. Besides..." Blaise spoke, glancing at the glasses-wearing girl. "... I promised I'd get you to that bar, didn't I? I'm not gonna go back on my word."

It might have been a weird way to answer, a total 180 of how things had started, but if one had asked Blaise Pendragon there was only one real answer, one real reason, to why he now spoke those words.

    任侠
    Chivalry

It was the one thing that he took true pride in, his way of life and his guiding principle. If you have power, you use it with responsibility and for sake of others. If you have conviction, you don't falter from it and see things through to the very end. If you feel that some course of action is right, you pursue it without making compromises with your own feelings. And most importantly, if you give someone your word, you never go back on it no matter how much it would cost you.

For Blaise Pendragon that was what it meant to be a Man.

And it was the greatest gift his other sister had given him.

    -------- Thus.

"Kaguya. Start the necessary preparations. We might have to fight... but not here," Blaise said with a quiet voice, before looking at Tsukiko Aido once more. "We need to move fast. I know the alleys, we can get to the bar that way as well. If worst comes to worst... well, I can point you in the right direction and stay behind myself."

He felt he was being a bit dramatic, but honestly, this situation felt like it was going somewhere pretty dramatic in a hurry!

All thanks to that messed up school nurse.

"... It's me who she wants, after all. Now let's go."

Without waiting for a proper answer, Blaise grasped the girl by the wrist and sprinted towards the nearest side alley that spread like a web of a spider between the tall buildings. First order of business was to get out of Dr. Bern's sight... and if that was impossible, somewhere where no outsiders would get hurt if things came to a head. Moving onto the less populated areas accomplished both.

And besides... like Blaise had said, Aoyama was his turf.

Not many knew these streets like he did...!

    "Humans are strange."

Words spoken lightly amidst the crash of a high-speed duel, by a skeleton who can't help but be amused by it.

While the enemy's magic seems to have placed something akin to a Timer on the battle, you refuse to give into that unfair weight, rejecting it's presence on your thoughts as you had charged forward to strike with all you had-! Admittedly it is not your favored method of combat, while much of the strength a Spirit Tamer possesses comes from their versatility rather than their brute force, most Tamers typically have one or two methods they favor over others, but you were a knight, someone who had trained to the point of becoming a "beacon" for humanity, thus you charge forward without fear-!

For the Matador, that is the only response it could accept from a human, if it had been anything less it would have immediately dismissed you as "weak." Ultimately, as a Demon, this opponent is monstrously strong in spite of it's casual appearance; the visage of a walking skeleton is something that might not seem too threatening in a world full of fantastical elements, but it is one of many embodiments of "Death," a Demon that should hold a natural advantage against human opponents, but also one that seemed to be making an active attempt of changing it's own "nature" by challenging those humans around it-!

"After all, I do not have blood. You are quite the jester, bard of the revived city."

---That is why it doesn't mind that they are strange, and why it doesn't mind being friendly to them to an extent; after all, it is that strangeness that made this world possible in the first place, still...

While both opponents could be considered statistically comparable on paper, real battles are not so simple as to be decided by simple brute force or unmatched speed; getting a feel for your opponent's movements, discovering their strengths and weaknesses, figuring out when to strike, and employing the personal skills and magics one has developed over time... All of these and more are things that can easily challenge an on paper advantage, and this...

---Is something that the both of you are aware of, even so-

---Challenging this particular demon to a close-range battle was quickly proving to be a mistake, while many demons fought with brute force, this Demon is one that employs godlike skill before everything else, and while a rapier would only seem particularly dangerous as a point, the sheer speed and skill with which the demon moves it's blade...

Has made every attack so far appear as a thrust at your vitals-!

Just like it's first thrust, every strike is a strike than you can see with your eyes; there is a clear path that the blade follows to a point, a point that you can dodge or parry thanks to your enhanced status, and one that should enable you to step inside of it's range for a decisive strike after each clash but-

-to the squires watching below, there is never a sound other than that of metal continuously clashing with metal, as even when the rapier is avoided completely it reappears as a new strike, coming right at you again to push you away, as if there was something about the matador's swordplay that reduced the time between it's attacks to somewhere close to 'zero.'

---Needless to say, this is not magic.

While such things are often employed in the modern day, the sheer lack of spiritual power both you and the DTG can detect from it's blade indicate that is not casting any particular magic with each strike, it is simply attacking with a honed skill that far surpasses your own, and one that you are only able to keep up with due to a combination of your own training as a Tamer and the DTG's vigilant presence, and even then, it's become impossible for you to disengage without risking impalement-!

    Certainly your choice of weapon does not help matters, but even without it, it is the difference between a swordsman and a sword-saint;

---Still, a part of you had already accounted for all of this... Even if you cannot defeat it in a straight sword duel, each of it's movements provides more data to your COMP, more information on which to better plan a future assault, not only that-

The clash of blades has allowed you to confirm a few things with your COMP's help already... While the 30 on your hand has certainly dropped to a 29, it has refrained from dropping any further than that... This could mean many things, but also seems to confirm that the actual factor for the Timer is not the passing of time, but rather something else, something more intrinsic to yourself as a person... Considering how this field seemed to feel cold, and encouraged negativity and a sense of hopelessness, the thing that might determine the state of that number is...

Your fighting spirit, or willpower, in other words...

You lose consciousness inside of this field once you "give up," or reach a certain level of "despair," or "Fear."

Of course such emotions are not always easy to suppress, fear is something that exists in all humans, and there are a number of ways to draw it out of even the most stout-hearted individuals, some magic some mundane, but it's still a weight off your shoulders in many ways, and-

"Still, you are holding up well, allow me to attack more seriously-!"

-a cool voice praises your actions, and the skeleton's swirling blade finally stops as it draws it back, falling into a strange pose that it has yet to take once throughout this little skirmish...

In many ways this is perfect time to either attack or retreat more fully, if the opponent is superior to you up close and you lack ranged options, then strategic use of your stage's ability to move around to throw off it's footing, or finding some way to use the surroundings in general might prove a more fruitful method, especially since it's predicted stamina was low, but-

    *Ba-dump.*

-something about it's voice made you want to retreat.

It's something that automatically triggered your DTG enhanced sixth sense, a much more potent hostile intent that screams that your opponent has decided to put much more of themselves into their next attack, and thus you are already retreating before you consciously decide to do so-

-and manage to avoid a single sonic thrust made at your chest.

    ---Fast.

Much faster than all of the others, but something you had been able to avoid nonetheless due to your soul screaming out at you to move; it stabs just to the side of your stomach, a result of a leaping dodge away from what had felt like a bizarre sword-technique, but the opponent does nothing to pursue you in your off balance state a heartbeat later, and thus you face it once more, heart racing as you wait for the analysis of what the hell that had just been, but...

    But...

    But...

"...Close. Yes, that wasn't a bad attempt..."

---The feeling of a liquid running down your left arm reveals a bizarre truth, namely...

While you hadn't felt the impact, and hadn't seen one either...

There was a painless gouge in your arm, one that was bleeding freely -thankfully it seems to have missed the bone- but...

    Even looking at it...

You... Can't feel anything from it...

    It moves, but...

The sense of pain that should have let you know you had been hurt...

Didn't seem to be functioning at all...

    Wise Up! (Matador)

    Name: Matador
    Character Type: Demon (Fiend?)
    Weaknesses: Light, Ice
Resistances: Curse (Strong), Psy (Strong), Phys (Strong)

    Stats

    STR: B (A)
    VIT: E
    AGI: C (B)
    SEN: B
    RES: C

    Racial Skill

Reminder of Mortality: As a manifestation of "Death," wounds dealt by the Matador cannot be healed through supernatural or mundane means; affects even those it doesn't know exist around it so long as they are nearby.

    Special Traits

    -Battle Beat-

    Physical Techniques

    -After Strike-
Two hyper fast thrusts with a weapon that are disguised as a single blow. The first thrust is a non-committal feint that creates an afterimage that the opponent sees, while the second strike hides in the shadows of the first and is effectively invisible to the naked eye. The afterimage itself is not a real attack, and those with particularly strong sixth senses might be able to avoid or mitigate the damage by instinctively avoiding the true strike.

    Spells

    -Grim Reaper (Limited)-
    Rank: B
    Type: Spirit
A mysterious spell that manifests as a bounded field, usually possessed by Fiends, although those who manipulate time such as Chronos are known to have 'similar' powers. Inflicts a Timer on everyone within the field that counts down to their defeat, if the Timer is allowed to reach 0, the character will be instantly defeated on the spot, although endure effects may stave off this fate momentarily. Having high Willpower at the moment of casting seems to indicate that one will have a higher timer, although this is not confirmed to be quite that simple. Originally a spell that killed enemies outright, the Matador's rejection of it's original conception as a form of "Death" has led to this power weakening enough that it inflicts "sleep" on others rather than "death."

Should have other effects that create an "ideal" field of black fog for "ending lives," such as causing those inside of it to give up on wanting to live entirely, but the Matador is either unwilling or unable to manifest those effects in this moment. As a result, the spell itself is considered to be incomplete, and has returned to the level of a more traditional Trump Card.

Weak enough entities would not manifest a Timer at all, and would simply be rendered unconscious immediately.

    -Painless-
    Rank: D
    Type: Curse
Enchantment-type spell that is applied to one's weapon or other spells, and can be inflicted on others through touch. Strips the sense of pain from the opponent, making it difficult for them to tell whether or not they have been harmed during the course of a high-intensity battle. Often used to hide minuscule impacts from their target, and has been the cause of many victims simply "losing consciousness" without understanding the real reason why...

    Rose Cross ~ Command Chambers
    Monday – Morning

    Interest in a cross-faction assignment…

I don’t have particularly strong thoughts on the subject. Other organizations… despite differing ideologies, they are also spirit tamers and help out humanity, so if you asked me about my general opinion it would be somewhat positive. But it’s not a particularly strong sentiment- personally, the Rose Cross is all I need.

That doesn’t mean I don’t have any interest in them at all, but considering that there may exist other candidates who feel more strongly about strengthening connections with them, it feels like it would be wrong for me to declare my interest.

    However…

The Commander said that she believed all of us to be capable- she wouldn’t have selected just anyone for an opportunity like this. I don’t want to disappoint those expectations, and there is no better way to do so than by going and proving myself.
…alternatively, you could say that I just don’t want to seem to be lazy and unmotivated, or unfriendly, by declining.

Either way, they’re not exactly the purest of motivations. That, and the thought of spending an undetermined amount of time outside the country makes me a little hesitant about my decision.

    But in the end…

“If you think I’m suitable for it, then I’d be more than happy to go.”

I suppress these thoughts. It doesn’t matter that much whether or not I stay here anyways, and even though what I’m doing might not be right…

It’s only a little wrong, so I think the Lord can forgive me.

    "..."

It shouldn't go as a surprise that the first response that Nadia Starr gets is an absolute, dreadful silence. After all, the one holding on to her (me) must look closer to a corpse than an actual living being. Before knowing this particular, I had no idea of what feeling motion-sick felt like. I only managed to save barely enough to get myself a bicycle, so it goes without saying that trips on more modern vehicles are a rare treat for my crew and me. Still, the speeds this bike reaches are on a completely different level than anything I've experienced before. Even if I put trust issues aside and entrust my fate to its spectacular driver, the moment it makes any sudden movements, I cannot help but feeling like death. Imagine ice-cream so fast your brain 'freezes', combined with an inexplicable fleeting nausea, all in a pendulum that swings back and forth with each turn. Certainly, there is nothing that gets closer to hell.

"A-Ah, hang in there just a little longer..."

The apologetic voice of my A.I. somehow manages to reach my ears. Moments later, my motion sickness is relieved somewhat, at least to the point where I can talk and act without looking like a lifeless mannequin. It's all thanks to a program the two of us designed to counter specifically this sort of problem. Using run-of-the-mill formulas combined with visual support to prevent recurrence, it becomes possible to endure the effects of this particular form of high-speed travel. Unfortunately, because I seem to have low tolerance for this brand of motion-sickness, I usually become incapacitated before I manage to run the program myself...

Kioka is a little bit clumsy and sure took longer than expected, but there is nothing I can't complain about when she just saved my life.

    Thank you.

"Well, I have more 'enemies' than I have 'allies', that's a given." Trying to dismiss what just happened as a mere moment of deep thought, I continue the conversation where Nadia left it at. "But I don't think many of them would go out of their way to target me."

I mean, besides having a history of being #1 when it comes to victims random bullies like to pick on, I am just your every-day average agent. I don't represent a threat and I try not to poke my nose where its not welcome. To keep it simple, unless its something personal, there is hardly any reason why someone would target me specifically.

"You do bring a good point, however..."

At first, I merely thought this was just my luck streak being turned upside down. It's not rare for a fairy to do acts of mischief, nor is it unheard of some demons to settle down in abandoned buildings, but... Something feels off. It might be the distance between the Shopping Centre and its supposed 'nest', or perhaps the exact destination where we are heading, it might just be my imagination, but...

"The more time passes, the more I become convinced this is less like a random felony and more like a trap we're being lured into."

    Hah...

    I better get ready.

Because if this troublesome woman is on the wheel...

    No matter what lies ahead...

"... We're going to storm into it, either way."

    "Of course-!"

    A simple purity.

While she is certainly curious about the motive behind the fairy's crime, and is more than a little convinced that this is more of a purposeful trap and less of a random felony, the idea that such things would change what she had decided to do was but a mere fantasy, yes...

Strong, the sort of reckless strength that comes from charging all of your problems head on-!

That was the strength possessed by Nadia Starr, it was an old-fashioned strength with an old-fashioned sort of purity of purpose to it, but such things aren't particularly surprising... You were sure a Racer needed that sort of intense drive as well, a will to be the first to reach the goal no matter what sort of obstacles get in one's way, hesitation leads to one slowing down, slowing down leads to being passed, and thus-!

    She simply charges ahead-!

---Of course, the motion-sickness that comes with the manifestation of her "charging ahead" is something that you wish she would fix, but in terms of allies who would actually stick by you until the job was done...

You couldn't think of many better.

    Still...

The roar of the engine doesn't quiet down somewhat as you approach the targeted area; as expected, the moment the fairy had reached this old training building, the presence of both kidnapped demons had stopped dead in the center of it. They don't move any more now that their ride has come to an end, so it seems the fairy must have further subdued them to at least some extent, and while a part of you wants to look for a door to get inside, you instinctively freeze up because you know better than to assume she would stop for something petty like an entrance, and indeed-

    "Hah-!"

-ramping up a fallen tree, and through a hole in the building's metallic outer surface, the bike's engine once again becomes a monster-like roar as it's sound reverberates through the enclosed space of what seems to be a gymnasium, or at least that's the idea your mind gives you about it's purpose before it all melts away as an obvious trap is finally sprung-!

"An amusement park...? Did we fall into an Old Harmonizer Generator?"

    Yes.

The moment the bike comes to a screeching stop along the ground, it's the sunlit grounds of a spotless theme park, rather than the rusty and cramped confinements of the old SDCD building...

"Yes. Readings indicate we have all been drawn into a combat simulator. All safety mechanisms are online, but pain inhibitors have been turned off for all participants."

If it was a simulator, then it was definitely the work of an on-site Harmonizer. In order to avoid real injuries from Tamers sparring with each other, test out different combat environments, as well as reduce the amount of collateral damage done by magic, Harmonizer Fields are often used by Tamer schools to add a "Digital Layer" on top of the real world, and have combat take place between everyone's digital "avatars." In terms of effectiveness it can't be denied, the use of an avatar is no different than that of your body unless the pain inhibitors have been turned off; your avatar's body is always an exact copy of your actual one, and you are unable to use abilities you couldn't use in the "Real World."

    Of course, this environment...

While there are some auto-skills that have been known to change the environment by adding a layer on top of the real world in a similar manner, they don't tend to be quite as detailed as this false world seems to be... It's a massive functioning copy of a theme park, while there aren't any NPC civilians around inside of it, the rides are all still going along their predetermined paths, heck, even the wave pool in the distance seems to be functioning...

Must have been a "for fun" auto-skill for the students, a slight abuse of magical power that was only really possible for those schools supported by the Major Tamer Organizations... The type of power you would need to process and maintain this sort of heavily detailed digital world was certainly far beyond the spirit power of an average Tamer-!

    Still...

While it's interesting that you've been lured into this place in particular, the existence of a trap still doesn't tell you the "who," the "why" or the "where," thus...

Eyes ignore the strangeness of the place to search for the fairy herself, considering the sheer amount of buildings present in the park she would be next to impossible to find quickly without some sort of aid, but that aid soon proves itself to be unnecessary, as all of the massive television screens bolted to the buildings turn on at once, and reveal not just the captives, or even just the fairy herself, but...

The three of them, along with what seems to be the "actual culprit."

"When I heard you could still afford groceries I was quite surprised Amamiya, I would've thought you would've given up on this lifestyle by now. I mean, is this your partnered Demon? A Slime?"

Holding it in his hands, he shakes it so you can see it, as if he knows you can see him on the screen... A closer look reveals not only that he's actually on top of the Ferris Wheel, but that the fairy and a strange red-haired woman -demon- are sitting with their backs turned to the camera...

---As far as his name goes, it's "Yoshino Takigawa."

While a history of spiritual powers is no longer necessary in the modern world due to everyone possessing them to some extent, the SDCD as an organization was one that had initially been composed of only ancient exorcist families. Those who have been a part of the organization from the start thus typically carry themselves like royalty, and while such things don't mean quite so much nowadays due to the organization's willingness to take in anyone willing to learn now that those powers were more prevalent, amongst those old families and their members themselves, it's still a badge of pride to come from "noble blood," but...

    No...

    No that can't be it...

---If this person has a reason to attack you, it's not something like blue blooded pride, no, your parents had been agents for the SDCD as well...

    ---But there was an incident.

An attack on the organization's Harmonizer Tower, one of the four that guarded the Human World, and the one that had been entrusted to the guardians of Japan... Naturally it's a structure of great importance, a literal pillar of the Human Order, and thus only the strongest Tamers were assigned to guard it.

Typically, it was a full-time position.

---Two people have left it, specifically, they deserted after an attack on the tower itself; it was an attack that had left both of Yoshino Takigawa's parents in a coma amongst other victims, and was determined to only be feasibly done by those that were already on the scene at the time of the incident. Of course, that is not the same thing as decisive evidence, officially, your parents have never been officially convicted of the crime, and the results were considered to be inconclusive by the higher ups but...

People will always find their own answer on who to blame, and in this case...

Everyone just assumes they did it. It's a fact of life that they do, but...

This person had never gone after you for it... But if he had a reason too...

    That would probably be it...

"You're the food thief right? What the hell man, Sho suffers enough as it is! Jackie! Kick him!"

"I would if I could boss, but I'm kinda tied up at the moment!"

A firm reprimand, one accompanied by her forcefully pulling back from you and-
"You've still got a lot to learn, little brother..."

-sweeps both of your legs out from underneath you.

Out of the many attacks she could have performed from this position, this was perhaps the least violent of them, or at least that's what your mind wants to believe... There's no curses or other spells being channeled through the leg that seeks to knock you onto your back, it's brute physical force, something she had always had a bit more of than you but that seems to have become a more massive gap now, firmly grasping your arm in the same movement as she pulls you over her shoulder, throwing you into the air behind her-!

This flow of movements... It's familiar, designed to go right through you in a way that few others could replicate... But by that same token, the throw is something you are accustomed too, body spinning reflexively to face what should be her coming after you in pursuit, but-

    She doesn't do it.

Having put as much force as her arms could muster into that throw, it seems she was determined to just get rid of you with that, turning away from you to run towards the center of the ship, and indeed...

She had aimed quite carefully, throwing your body not just towards a number of slow moving drones, but...

Well over the side of the ship.

    SLEIPNIR ~ Flight Deck (North)
    Monday ~ Morning

This outcome was to be expected, after all we both knew that this was almost certainly a trap.

And now with the trap sprung, I find myself been thrown off the ship, without the ability to fly back up. Leaving the battlefield in the first blow, leaving behind my comrades.

    That's just unacceptable.

    ...

    ...

    ...

...Go on, get it out of your system.

Oh nooo, indubitably twas a trap, who could have foreseen suuuuch a twist.

    ...Nothing more?

I'll spare you this time, she's already reprimanded you as well and having two identical girls scold you is a bit much.

So, ready to get back in there?

    You know it!

Tamers are existences akin to demons and legendary heroes, a puny thing like gravity wouldn't stop people like us.

Lara might have flung me off the ship, but that was closer to an act of kindness than battle. She didn't cause much harm, instead she tried to get rid of me as painless as possible. There was no follow up, no malicious intent, even the place she threw me towards doesn't pose much danger. and would allow me to be safe from plummeting downwards.

Unfortunately, we Karlfeldts are a tenacious and persistent bunch. Neither of us would have gotten so far if we'd be done with just this. She knows this, and yet she's turned away from her opponent. A foolish mistake, one she wouldn't normally make.

Spiritual power starts to gather underneath my feet as my body falls towards a slow moving group of drones. Landing on top of one for but a brief moment, I rocket myself back up, overseeing the Flight Deck as well as my sister running towards the center of the ship.

Lydia get ready for an Aura Blast, I'll try to turn the battle somehow, but if this doesn't work ---.

Very well, I'll fire if she retaliates. Storing power.

The time for kind acts was over. After all, now the battle had begun in earnest.

I still do not know her or out attacker's their motivations, their goal, but I have a hunch that she doesn't truly wish to do this. And if that were so, maybe such a feeling can be enforced.

The connection I had maintained all this time, from which she fired the first blow, now I would use it.

Even now as opponents, she held her punches. She only tried to get me away from this place. She chose options that were the least violent.

Maybe just a nudge would be enough to have rethink the whole thing. Maybe her guilt, or grief over her current actions, the mercy she provided could be amplified.

If there is but a slight chance that this could be resolved with fighting, even a minuscule chance, then I had to take it.

The door between us opens once again. As soon as I've confirmed that our connection is still intact, my mind will influence hers towards a vital decision.

Whatever her decision will be, will decide the course of this battle.

If the connection is no longer active, Lydia won't be as forgiving as I've been. If our connection will weaken her resolve, we can still end this far easier.

And if this only serves to strengthen her resolve, then it is I who shall have to teach her a lesson.

    Wise up!

COMP Heat: 2/10 (reset during previous actions)

Love and Hate (ESPer Trait - Telepathy):
Utilize ESP and attempt to amplify the emotions another character is already feeling (such as anger, guilt, or unease) in an attempt to subtly manipulate their actions, or make them rethink a chosen course of thought. Cannot create emotions where none exist however, and is more akin to a light mental nudge towards where the user wants them to go emotionally. Due to being a byproduct of an ESP ability, it's considered to be a Spirit-Type Ability rather than a Psy-Type Ability. Doesn't work on COMP AIs.

"I am sorry, but do we even know each other...?"

To the kidnapper, I guess that sort of response might sound rude, but it's actually an honest one. I am trying to put the pieces together here and his face just doesn't match with those I am already familiar with. Perhaps I've seen this guy once or twice in the past, hell, maybe we were classmates or something, but that's about it. Not someone I care about. In hindsight, I can see what makes this person so forgettable. He seems to be here to make fun of me (like a lot of people usually do) and he has an air of superiority around him (like many other bullies do). So yeah, I guess the word I am looking for is 'generic', at least going by my mediocre world's standards. Still, that doesn't erase the fact that he knows who I am and he has gone out of his way to make my life a little harder. Not just he has already ruined an once-in-a-lifetime breakfast, he also has taken my best friend captive. Those things I cannot ignore.

"Well, I am SDCD's 'Weakest One', so there are only a few demon partners I can keep up with. That slime you got there is still the MvP of the team, though."

    I showcase an ironic shrug.

I already know who is in a position of power here, so I don't try to contend it. Instead I play along, not letting myself be completely stomped over, but not making the mistake of defying his logic either. I guess in that sense I am with Nadia: We've walked into this trap, so we're going to have to take this trap head-on. I can think of at least ten ways of getting back our partners this precise moment, but honestly, given my current level of skill, all ten sound like terrible ideas. I better swallow my pride for a moment and listen to what this clown has to say. After all, if instead of intercepting me himself like he could have done at any time, he lured me to this 'grand stage', it's because he has something in mind.

"Did you trap us here so the two of us could fight...?"

Looking at it objectively, that sounds like the most logical answer to this puzzle. This guy must have some sort of grudge against me or my parents, and just brought me to this simulated space so he could challenge me and make me bite the dust. It certainly sounds like the kind of thing a traditionalist-looking guy like him would do. Well, for now, I can at least feel relieved that Kyp is within my line of sight. Kyp's a pretty tough demon appearances aside, so I am pretty sure nothing this clown does to it poses a problem. I am more worried about Jack, but I am sure Nadia will play her part in his rescue when the time comes.

Raz was becoming increasingly convinced that his initial catch of the Matador's weapon was either some sort of amazing run of luck or (far more likely) the skeletal warrior had been going easy at first. Caught in the the midst of a storm of strikes, Raz despite all his training and hard won martial skill felt like a normal human trying to dodge every single drop of a rain storm. In theory, there should always be a moment to counter, to regain balance. There should be a moment to pull back a rapier in order to strike again.

Considering the two were nearly equal in physical ability, stepping into that moment should not be impossible...and yet...!

    And yet...!

He's reading your movements boss, you're made!

Even when Raz risked an open handed slap at the point of the blade that had been aimed at the major artery of his wrists, Matador countered beautifully, adjusting the angle and nearly taking off most of the fingers of his left hand. Raz had only saved himself by splaying his fingers wide and turning his hand so the blade past between them. In theory, this should have presented an excellent opportunity to grab the weapon and either it rip it out of his opponent's hand or use leverage to close, but it vanished quickly and was striking again before Raz's brain had finished even processing the feel of metal against his fingertips.

    And yet!

It was like being shot at. Each attack went to the next without the moment of weakness that Raz could exploit. What was worse, Matador, despite the fact that every single attack had lethal skill, wasn't really trying to kill as far as Raz could tell. Instead, the attacks faced by the kingdom's bard were all "deadly things he was expected to evade." As a result, by accident or design, Raz was having trouble reading his opponent's killing intent. This was adding a critical nanosecond or two to the time it was taking Raz to dodge aside or deflect with the HEAT microphone.

    And yet...!

Were it not for the DTG, Raz was fairly certain he would have already had a few major veins and arteries ventilated.

and yet...this is so much fun!

If raz had the time to notice such things, he probably would have been somewhat aghast at the frenzied grin stretching in a rictus across his features. There was nothing like battling someone stronger! It was so rare for him to just get a chance to fight in this way. Due to his nature, he was usually called to enhance battle groups, support platoons, manage the flow of larger battles. And since that entailed singing his heart out, of course he enjoyed it. but still...

Sometimes you just wanted to test your body and skills yourself. And the red-caped fiend was a magnificent challenge. Raz was over matched. This was the difference in someone who was skilled in larger battles vs. a true duelist, one who specialized in the exchange of individual blows.

Put another way, a skilled general might be more valuable on the battlefield, but he usually lacked the true skill of the soldiers on his front line. Raz wondered if he could actually win, feeling the number on his hand slide towards zero at the thought, but all the same...

    Got my opening yet?

No, still working. Tell you one thing though. Bindle stiff over there has a glass jaw. Catch him on the Beezer with iron and a whole lot changes. Course that assumes you don't do something stupid and end up more hole-y then the sweet virgin Mary.

Thanks for the vote of confi...

    Look out!

Raz didn't even see the attack coming. He just threw himself bodily away, twisting aside with nary a care for even worrying about any kind of follow up. For a split second he had known...known, with absolute surety that his heart was to be pierced. Impossibly, when he found himself alive, unharmed, having not suffered the follow up blow that might well have disabled him, the dark haired boy at first assumed that the aura of relaxed amusement he sensed from his enemy was due to having forced such a desperate maneuver. That was before his enhanced senses caught a well known coppery scent on the air.

Dont believe what anyone says. Your own blood smells different from anyone else's. You recognize it right away. Adrenaline courses through your body before you even really know why. It was the odd warmth on his arm that alerted him to what had occurred. The cloying darkness that Raz had been repressing with his will power was cold. The almost comforting warmth of flowing blood seemed so out of place.

    Answers! Now!

Got it. Curse on his sword. Real sharper of a bit. Doesn't let you feel pain. Don't know if you are making a mistake. Sneaky trick. As far as the sword strike, seems he fires two rounds from the same Roscoe. First gets you going, second...

Second one tears up my arm. I'll keep an eye out for it. Options?

I could work up something to make sure he doesn't catch you off guard again. Maybe.

No. Keep on him. Get me my opening. I'll deal with the rest of it.

Raz forced a large gulp of air into his lungs. A rookie mistake when pressed hard was to forget to control your breathing. People tensed up when their back was in the wall, held their lungs or took short clipped breaths. Such instincts were lethal in a high speed confrontation.

Raz could feel the eyes of the skelatal warrior upon him. Probing, as if to ask "are you scared yet?"

Heh. maybe a little. But that's the feeling of being alive...!

Raz leaped back, letting his hand catch himself into a quick handspring, bouncing himself into an upright crouch. Steadying himself, Raz rose to his feet and held out the microphone.

"I'll thank you for your praise...but don't worry...I am just getting warmed up, its time to go up tempo! First things first, while having you join the song is fun, no props are allowed...!"

At that point Raz did something that very likely nobody in the area...perhaps even the world... could have possibly expected. Because the Kingdom's Bard, beaten, bloody, but not broken, casting his defiance into the teeth of the stronger warrior proceeded to...

Place his hands behind his head, and with full force, give a great pelvic thrust towards his enemy.

There was no sound to what happened next. It might even be that the entirety of the moment was held up by the apparant madness and absurdity of Raz Stone.

That is of course, until a soundless wave crashed into the demonic fencer...or more precisely...his sword. As the curse of painless death abated, forced into sound waves and dissipated by one of the more esoteric abilities of the Songcraft created by the DTG system.

I cant believe you didnt also let me knock off the other 'roids that you wont stop putting on him.

...Now that wouldnt be any fun!

"Sorry Baby, but while you might have thought it was being kind to take away the signs of injury...When it comes down to it, I would rather feel pain then nothing at all!

Indeed, Raz felt the beginnings of the laceration to his arm making itself known. He could clearly feel the twin holes where his opponent's weapon had pierced right through. And it was with that same bloodied arm he raised again his microphone, the systems of the Hermes stage raising his new song's volume to a new degree, shaking the trees that surrounded the floating stage.

    "Lets get HEATED up baby!"

At the word heat, light again burst forward from Raz, enhanced by the stage. Colors of red, green and purple swirled through the area, the different lines of light almost uncountable. The squires. Raz...and a certain fencer as well, all gained anew power of song, along side a white chorus of sound that restabilized the previous enhancements.

With each cast, Raz gained strength. But so did his enemy. Not only that, he was using heat that could have been profitably spent in other areas. The increased defensive power he granted himself was countered by the increased weapon skill he granted to his foe.

    and yet...

It did not seem like he was ready to lose...?

When Raz again, against all reason, charged at the Matador, ignoring the fact that Matador enjoyed natural resistance to Raz's melee attacks, ignoring the skill difference between the two, as the DTG desperately scanned the enemy, searching for the moment Raz demanded...one had to wonder what the Grand Finale of this clash would be...!

Active Spells: Heat Riser, Encore, Song of Battle, Break Dance
    Break Dance, Rank D

Adds a reverb to the song of battle that is intended to prevent the show being stolen by enemy combatants. Allows buff spells to be dispelled rather simply from enemy targets. At this point most simple buffs and elemental walls can be neutralized, but unique buffs or more potent defenses such as terakarn can not be removed.

...he used a taunting pelvic thrust when getting his ass kicked. Raz is insane.

"What... Did you just say to me-?!"

While at first he sounds more shocked than angry, the words that come flowing out after the first really show how emotionally volatile this person actually is-! Those who bear that aura of superiority around themselves typically do not handle it being 'disrespected' very well, but at the same time, you're under no obligation to play along with anyone's delusions of grandeur either-!

"Turned it down...? Know each other...? You have no right to refuse our duel! Do you not know who I am?!"

A yell that seems designed to shake the theme park to the ground... But does no such thing, yes...

While it's loud, and certainly angry, there's a certain lack of weight to it that makes it hard to take seriously... Perhaps it's because this sort of thing has lost it's shock value since it's happened to you so much, but everything he says comes across as something you've "heard a thousand times," in other words, yeah...

    A bit generic...

"We know you're a screaming guy with no moral compass, think that's about all we need to know."

Hell, even Nadia's tone has gone from "outraged' to 'still kinda pissed, but also kinda unimpressed...'

"Tell you what, gimme back my snowman and his slime, and maybe you'll be able to actually save some face here. Would suck if you went to all the trouble of trapping us and he still crushed you, right? You're being a really bad villain right now."

Needless to say, this doesn't go over well either...

"Nadia Starr...? Am I being mocked by some publicity stunt celebrity now too?!"

"Publicity stunt? You calling me a fake?! Get down from your little perch and I'll show you just how 'fake' a Tamer I am-!"

To the point where now it seems like she wants to fight him way more than you do, but...

"Enough out of you! You are an extra, an unneeded fool with a demon almost as weak as a Slime, and who's playing at being a Tamer for fun! Agiel, show them the power of a real Demon, I'll teach the both of them a lesson in respect-!"

Waving his hand at the red-haired woman in a clearly flustered way even though he more or less has all the cards here, the crimson haired demon doesn't seem very enthusiastic about the task she has just been given, but...

"Sorry kids, I know he's being a brat... But honor-bound to follow this family and all, you get it right?"

...She stands to face the camera anyways, and looking at her figure from atop the Ferris Wheel, not from the screen, but with your own eyes...

...What looks like black lightning erupts forth, moving in an unnatural way -almost like a snake- as it flies through the air towards it's targets.

    But...

"Well, they shot first... I'm just gonna drive right at em, you in?"

Calm as ever, Nadia seems to have decided to just take her partner back by force.
    Exodus (Complete)

Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stilled and the actors leave the stage, the story will never truly end.

Regardless of the form it takes, as long as there are memories of it's existence, the story will continue on.

In a small ward in the heart of a once devastated town, life carries on as it always has...

    Because of you.

    Please, remember it warmly.

We'll continue to walk down this path for eternity.
