For a new studio I'd expect this to be a good time at this point to establish themselves with an announcement of what they have planned since they did mention wanting to do something before, although yeah expect nothing. If there's a chance for EXTRA to be remastered that seems to be being mentioned, uh, yeah, no shit I'm hoping for nothing but the best if that's going to be the scenario.

I'm sorry but neither of you seem to know what "pretentious writing" even means.
It's about adding apparent intellectual terms or concepts to make your work seem to carry more weight and superiority than is actually possessed. You could have the most haughty writing in existence and it wouldn't be pretentious if it actually pertained to the story you're writing. Just because KnK has takes on philosophy or morals or budhism obscure to westerners doesn't make it pretentious. Pretentious writing comes about from a writer thinking they are, or wanting to appear to be, much smarter and superior than they actually are, but their only means to prove this to the reader is by use of all the "intellectual" stuff they can throw into their writing.
Or like seikeo said, it literally means that you're making a claim or pretending to be something you're not.

I'll take a "pretentious" work that actually attempts to do something unique and interesting (with flaws) any day over another forgettable and insipid product that's obviously targeted at the lowest common denominators.
A work's pretentious if it's pretending to be something it's not (the overwhelming majority of the time, pretending to be "deeper" and more philosophical than it actually is, like some self-help books about achieving your best self that will not be named). It's a rather subjective label to attach or detach, since even under rigorous literary analysis the same text can be proclaimed a masterpiece by one critic and balderdash by another.
