Name: Renaissance of Fantasy and Logic: Plutonia
Subtitle: Bedtime Story For the Children of the Damned
    Lost Depth: D

    Origin: 1829 A.D.
    Location: New York State
    King: Imaginos/Desdinova (Foreigner)
History: This Lostbelt diverged from proper human history during the the early 1800s. Les Invisibles, a group of alien gods from the Dog Star who had been worshipped on Earth as the Loa of Haitian Voodoo, see it fit to intervene in history and hasten their plans involving an ominous mirror. They bring about the birth of a modified child with half alien DNA named Imaginos to become their puppet on Earth. As a young boy, Imaginos was gifted with strange supernatural powers and like shape shifting and clairvoyance, and lives his life unaware of his grand destiny. Upon reaching adulthood, Imaginos bills himself an adventurer and travels to New Orleans to catch a boat ride to Mexico, feeling a strange force pushing him onwards. However, Imaginos is caught in a storm at sea that he couldn't predict and drowns. Washing up on a mysterious shore where "Oyster beds are plush", he is contacted by Les Invisibles who give him a choice: die here or serve them and enact whatever plan they have in store for humanity. Thus, Imaginos changes his name to Desdinova "Eternal Light", travelling to various points in time and presenting humanity "the challenge of evil" in order to force them to progress whenever they are on the verge of stagnation.
The most important of Desdinova's actions to this Lostbelt however, is the initiation of the two World Wars. In 1892, Desdinova decided to retake his failed voyage to Mexico, and set sail from his new home in Cornwall, England on board a "Charmed" ship called Plutonia. In the jungles of Mexico, he discovered a jade pyramid where in lay the obsidian mirror, the Magna of Illusions. Desdinova takes the Magna of Illusions back to England, giving it to his granddaughter as a birthday present. As Desdinova began taking on the appearance of various European political figures to instigate national tensions, the mirror sat in an dusty attic slowly releasing the negative energy it had amassed over the years and poisoning the minds of Europe's leaders. In 1914, World War 1 breaks out, "A disease with a long incubation period". While World War I was chaotic, World War II was even more so. Due to the corruption of the Magna of Illusions, the Allies and Axis powers begin an arms race, delving into technological horrors and miracles of magecraft beyond comprehension in their bid to win the war. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Axis Powers launch an attack on the East Coast of America and, during a heated battle in Manhattan, powerful reality warping weapons are used by both sides. Desdinova takes advantage of this and uses the Magna of Illusions full power to conduct a ritual which opens the gateway to another dimension. New York becomes a chaotic hellscape abundant with mystery and partially displaced from normal reality. It has entered into a bizarre dark age where neither science and magic are understood and superstition is rampant. It’s a place stuck in a perpetual age of cultural renaissance, the people enamored by the next great innovation beyond their wildest dreams, but also a secret battleground for foreign intelligences, fanatical cults, shadowy organizations, megalomaniacs, and eldritch horrors seeking to harness the vast potential of this mass convergence point of mystery. This is a warzone for those madmen who seek world domination. A conspiracy covered in an eternal parade of nostalgia and the romance of the blooming industrial revolution.
    Notes
So I was researching the plot of Blue Oyster Cult's Imaginos Concept Album and realized how strikingly similar Imaginos' circumstance is to the Crypters. One crazy thought lead to another and this is what I came up with. As for the nature of the Lostbelt itself, that was mainly inspired by the setting Kekkai Sensen and my own idealization/romanticization of the industrial revolution and stuff like the World Fair and the Renaissance.
For anyone interested in the history of the Imaginos Album

The stage for the first incident is the turn of the millennium, the year of 1999.
Amid the apocryphal Pseudo-Holy Grail Wars, Brazil faces a ritual darker than any other!
Its result can lead History itself to a premature end…

    Introduction

In the world of magi, the 20th Century has been defined by Holy Grail Wars.
Ever since the ritual of the Einzberns was leaked, countless rituals have been executed. Between opportunistic spellcasters trying to skip the busywork by using someone else’s ritual and magi taking advantage of the shortcuts it provides to further their own goals, there’s no shortage of people willing to jump into these sacrificial rituals, despite them never wielding results.

    Ours will be different.”

So says Maíra Inirandá O’Kerry, a Brazilian magus of Irish descent that is known throughout the world as the “Mystic Eyes Maker”. A title that arose from her seemingly everchanging mystic eye abilities. Rumor says that her family has passed down some method of manufacturing them, and the way she sports a different eye color and ability every time she makes a public appearance seems to support that.

Her decision to host a Pseudo-Grail War was a surprise to all the invited. What did such a distinguished magus want with such a bloody and faulty ritual? What’s more, her proposition was absurd.
It’s true, no war had succeeded until now because of the quality of their Grails. Few could match the absurd quality and specialization of Justeaze’s Magic Circuits.

So let’s make up for it with numbers.”

An absurd suggestion. That each Master parts with half of their own Magic Crest so that they can build the Grail from it. A proper magus would never agree to it. It’s a betrayal of the hopes of every generation before and after them.
Then again, no proper magi were invited.
Only those desperate or uncaring enough to agree to such a proposition.

Preparations will start months in advance. Come to Rio on March 11th. We’ll begin the next millennium with a never-before-seen miracle.”

    Masters' Arrival

Zephyr Argyros is a descendant of the great thief hero Autolycus, the son of Hermes who sailed on the Argo. His family has been seeking to recover the magecraft from the Age of Gods, spurred on by the divine blood they carry. Zephyr wholeheartedly believes he’ll be the one to achieve it. Having utmost respect for Autolycus but none whatsoever for the rest of his relatives, he accepts the invitation to the war. What does it matter if he throws away the efforts of his predecessors and dooms the aspiration of his descendants? None of that will matter once he wins. He’s destined to it, the vast array of relics his great ancestor passed down are proof of it. He arrives in Rio, carrying a catalyst belonging to one of Autolycus’ sworn friends.

Henrique d’Azur is a French magus, a member of the Atlas institute. An insecure young man whose magic circuits are terribly atrophied, forcing him to rely on mystic codes and alchemy. He received the invitation but didn’t have the guts to accept until he was assigned a mission on the very same city: to find Núbia Cohen, an Atlas magus who had downloaded some unknown information from Tri-Hermes without authorization and disappeared after arriving in Rio. Henrique d’Azur receives a catalyst from a friend for a Servant that they believe will be appropriate for him and sets out to the war.

Hibike Miyamoto, the latest successor to the Miyamoto family, said to be directly descended from Musashi Miyamoto himself. They seek to reach the Root through the perfection of Niten Ichi-ryû rather than through magecraft. Hibike feels a deep connection to the practices of his family and the life of his ancestor, but his feelings are betrayed by his lack of ability with the sword and his disbelief on the commitment of his masters. He accepts the invitation with only his own blood to act as a catalyst, hoping to meet the man that’ll set his life straight.

Eriwaldo da Fonseca, a man who cares little for the history of his own family in the face of the suffering of his friends and neighbors. The life in Brazil’s northwest is not easy and Eriswaldo is committed to changing it. He has no catalyst or plan, only conviction and the faith that the fate of him and his fellows is filled with hope.

Zephyr, d’Azur and Hibike have just met each other when the wave of nausea hits them. The sky goes red, thin mist fills the streets and a strange symbol covers the moon: a giant eye, watching all bellow it.
Their marks of selection quickly fill out into fully formed Command Spells, followed by the sudden summoning of their Servants. The Heroic Spirits immediately take defensive stances.
Malformed creatures from a bygone age are approaching their masters, hungry and mad.

    Hibike Zephyr d'Azur

Meanwhile, in a different part of the city, Eriswaldo experiences the same but is suddenly surrounded by the foliage of a rapidly expanding forest. People, vehicles and buildings alike are thrown around — as if by an earthquake — as the entire area turns into a jungle. His Servant is summoned just as unexpectedly, and they are quickly surrounded by a different manner of creature: Curupiras, the trickster fire-spirits of the forest.

    Eriswaldo

    Hy Breazáil, the Cinnabar Land

A ritual gone wrong has resulted in the entire city of Rio de Janeiro being encased in a red mist from which humanoid creatures that carry terrible animal mutations and debilitating malformations, are constantly being summoned.
The mist causes a supernaturally high fever on all inhabitants that immediately makes them to faint, resulting in uncountable accidents and deaths on the first moments of the incident.
The only ones seemingly not affected are the four Masters. In an attempt to quickly respond to the situation, the Counter Force utilized the connection they already had to the Holy Grail War ritual to summon Servants under their control, tasking them with the duty of resolving the situation before irreparable damage is done, so as to prevent this timeline from becoming an Item Designated for Removal.

However, it seems the forsaken ritual that drowned Rio in the feverish mist is not done yet. Seven Servants are summoned, the Evil Eye symbol glowing in their forehead as if reflecting the moon. These unthinking brutes initiate their own Holy Grail War, attacking any other Servant they encounter.

This is a hopeless situation to any hero attempting to thwart the dark designs of this unknown force. The ritual is not flawless, but its failing is one of a kind. If they miss it... If they somehow lose that one chance to undo things, then no one here will live to see the new millennium.

    Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Sebastian

Berserker has been summoned to the Cathedral and immediately left it to roam the streets in search of other Servants. He’s perfectly willing to shoot at any targets he encounters, but the mark upon him does not allow any complex thinking, and he’s more likely to just rush at any Servants and use his Noble Phantasm at the first sign of danger.
However, to Tiradentes, this is salvation. When attempting to use his Noble Phantasm on someone, it’ll immediately hit his own cursed contract with the Evil Eye instead, freeing him from its control.
From then on, he’ll need to find a supply of Magical Energy so that he can stay materialized. And he’ll be desperate to do so, a hero of justice such as himself cannot allow the people of Rio to go on suffering any longer.
Any Master attempting to solve this Incident should think carefully about supporting Berserker and making use of his Noble Phantasm to free more allies, but how can they even find out about this ability when his own skills conceal his identity?.

    Carioca Aqueduct

Bellow the white Lapa Arches, Lancer has been summoned.
She guards this location for seemingly no reason, attacking any who approach the town square around it. Unsuspecting Servants will perceive her as an easy target but will be met with the immediate usage of her Noble Phantasm. Alongside the rainbow lances of legend, she’ll exterminate any intruder.

    Inirandá Residence

The house of Maíra, the supposed host of the Rio pseudo-Grail War, is in that same neighborhood.
Intruders will find all defenses already unoperative and most mystics missing. An underground chamber that surely served as her workshop is essentially flooded with small, spherical black particles of what appears to be some kind of carbon-based material. Maíra’s corpse lies on top of them. It’s a horrible sight, her skin is torn open throughout her entire body, revealing the red flesh beneath.
At first, it might appear that she was tortured. That someone cut long and deep ridges with a thin knife repeatedly, until she died of blood loss.
However, those familiar with anatomy might realize the more disturbing truth. All of her nervous and circulatory system has been systematically removed, and all other wounds seem to be the result of that.

    Sugarloaf Mountain

The place is now the home of Archer Atalante. From this vantage point, she is able to see the entire southside of the city. The sudden appearance of a jungle covering it poses a problem, but she can still spot anyone walking through its many clearings.
Furthermore, it seems her role in this ritual is valued indeed, for she has been supplied with more magical energy than any other Servant here. She is able to spam her Noble Phantasm, raining destruction upon any Servant foolish enough to walk around the city with no cover.

    South Zone Jungle

A massive rainforest that grew as if in response to the red mist. While the people in it are still being affected by the massive fever the mist brings, the mist itself is not present. As such, this is the only place free of the deformed monsters.
Instead, it has been taken over by a massive amount of Curupiras, Pais-do-Mato and Mermaids.
At the center of it all is the cause for the forest anomaly: Caipóra, the red-skinned, boar riding elemental that protects Brazilian forests.
Taking advantage of the Age of Gods-like environment brought about by the Evil Eye, she has manifested in a form infinitely closer to her original one. Wielding power far above any of the Servants, she returns part of Rio de Janeiro to nature, with no care whatsoever about the danger threatening humanity and this timeline. She is perfectly happy taking back the land that “Brazil” took over and ignoring the danger at hand until it actually threatens her and her own.

    Botanic Garden

The beautiful gardens of Rio hide beneath them a workshop designed for Atlas magi, built in the past when their alchemists collaborated with a certain Brazilian family. This is the place d’Azur has been ordered to investigate, since they have no other clues as to where Núbia could be.
Sadly, the place has been taken over. Not by Caipóra’s jungle or by the army of deformed monsters, but by the demonic domain of the Gorgon! A Bloodfort extends throughout the entire area, melting all the living beings within.
At its center is the Queen of Magical Beasts. Why such a calamity has been summoned is a mystery to all unfortunate enough to encounter her.
She is an obstacle that has to be overcome by anyone attempting to understand and stop this dark ritual.
And when they do, if they do, the challengers will realize the truth. This beast is actually the Saber-class Servant Chrysaor! The ritual feels the death of the Gorgon and releases the supposedly “dead” Servant from its control.
From then on, Chrysaor is most likely to side with Caipóra. A fellow monster who is just attempting to take back land that once belonged to her kind.

    Boiuna's Pit

The workshop is a massive underground complex that extends bellow the entirety of Lake Rodrigo de Freitas. It is filled with the same spherical particles that were found in Maíra’s home, nothing besides them can be found inside it. Only series after series of empty corridors leading to empty rooms.
At the center is a HERMES, a 6th generation computing unit based on Pseudo-Spiritrons particle theory. A Philosopher’s Stone, the crystal capable of keeping perfect records indefinitely and conduction predictive calculations based on those records. The reason Atlas was commissioned to build it is unknown and it has been inactive since the contractor was banished from the Country, however, it’s obvious that this was Núbia’s objective. Nothing else in Rio is as valuable to a member of the Titan’s Pit as this.

    Tijuca Forest

A massive natural forest in the city. The place in which Assassin has been summoned. Hassan of Febrile Inspiration immediately left the premise in search of targets, but was delayed due to the massive amount of blind snakes infesting the place: magical beasts birthed by Gorgon.
The Assassin and the snakes both eventually make their way out, adding even more to the danger that Hy Breazáil poses to any inside it.

    Maracanã

An unknown Servant has taken over the place. The massive soccer stadium is the focal point of the second best leyline in the city, and is surrounded by his powerful bounded field. Anyone attempting to enter it will instead enter A Casa Antiga — the old house —, in which they’ll experience a vivid recreation of their memories.
If one is able to make their way into the soccer field proper, then they’ll find the actual house in which Caster is constantly syphoning magic energy from the land to fuel his bounded field. The mysterious Servant is not a powerful enemy and can easily be disposed of as long as one is able to deal with the mental attacks on the way there.

    Christ the Redeemer

Christ the Redeemer, the most famous feature of the Wonderful City, has been replaced with a bizarre living tower. It appears to be the source of the mist encasing the rest of the city and is covered by seven layers of light. They don’t actually block anyone from entering it: Their power seems to be directed inward.
However, before entering the Tower, one will immediately realize the hopelessness of their situation. In fact, it's a realization one can have by climbing any place high enough in the city… which is now an island.

"Hy Breazáil" is the phantom island of Ireland. It is only visible once every seven years, during which the cloaking mists that hide it go away.
It is the sacred land of the Tuatha dé Danaan, the land that houses the rightful seat of the High King of the World and his descendants.

    An Irish island then.
This fact must be the reason why Rio de Janeiro has been completely detached from the mainland. Its landmass now sails across the Atlantic Ocean towards the shores of Ireland.

All so that the Evil Eye might once again establish the Seat of the High King of the World and usurp it from his eternal enemies, becoming the new Prime Species alongside his malformed subjects, the Formorians.

Inside the tower that replaced the image of the messiah... stands Avenger Balor of the Evil Eye.

    Balor of the Evil Eye
    Tyrannical King of the Formorians

Balor is the son of a castle-making god. As a boy, he was deformed by the potions of a druid, resulting in the abhorrent fusion of his Mystic Eyes into a single one, greatly enhancing its capabilities but leaving him deformed for life.
Carrying a name that means “the flashing one”, he is the personification of the scorching sun that assails the land. Balor is the odious king and military leader of the Formorians, the ultimate enemies of the Tuatha Dé Danamm. It’s said that his deformed subjects assailed the people of Ireland, spreading death and disease throughout the land until they were defeated in the battle of Mag Tuired.
It was then that his grandson Lugh, god of light, killed him in battle. Balor was tricked into losing his glass, which he used to enhance his already deadly Mystic Eye, and had the organ promptly removed by Lugh. Legend tells that from the socket flowed out so much blood that it created the lake Suil Balra.

    Class Skills

    Avenger A.

A class skill representing the state of an Avenger as one that gathers people's hatreds and grudges onto oneself. As ones whose purpose is fueled by such negative emotions, the rate of mana generation increases when receiving damage.

Despite his struggle to rebel against the prophecy that foretold his end, he still died a shameful death at the hands of his Tuatha Dé Danamm nephew. Summoned as a Servant, Balor will never stop until he can defile and desecrate everything that prospered under their light.

    Oblivion Correction A++.

People are creatures that forget many things, but an Avenger never forgets. As one who attacks beyond other’s memory, their critical effects are strengthened.

Balor is no person. He’s a god. There was never any chance of him forgetting the grave offenses he suffered.

    Self-Replenishment (Mana) C.

A skill that replenishes a minuscule amount of magical energy every turn. One's magical energy endlessly surges until their revenge is accomplished.

Such single-minded conviction cannot be easily stopped.

    Personal Skills

    Divinity B.

The measure of whether one has Divine Spirit aptitude or not. Those who have A rank Divinity or above have reached the Throne of Gods, although they are still just short of being a true god due to lacking a Divine Core.

As a legitimate Divine Spirit, Balor should sport a Divine Core of the Formorian God, but instead his divinity has been degraded to a high rank in this skill. A most severe downgrade, caused by the strange spheres that helped maintain his manifestation as a Servant. It’s unknown whether this was a consequence of their effort to prevent the breakdown of his Saint Graph or just an unintended side-effect caused by a material that comes from the opposite end of time.

    Mana Burst (Decay) B+.

An increase of performance caused by infusing one’s weapons and body with magical energy imparted with a rust effect and instantly expelling it.

Balor is capable of expelling jets of magical energy that appear to be flames but cause rust or decay on their target. This is the effect of the god who rejected the destiny of a builder to instead become a destroyed. One is unable to interact with anything without ruining it.

Authority of the Formorian King A.

This is an Anti-Tuatha Dé Danamm skill. The natural control over Formorians that this god possesses.

Balor is a Formorian leader whose legend has survived long after people stopped praising his enemy gods. His deformity is the greatest one among his monstrous army, and has inspired the appearance of countless abominations in all manner of myth and legend. Just by existing, Balor brings forth such existences.
In other words, this is the authority to call formorians. A passive skill that makes them appear continuously as if from thin air as long as Balor exists.

    Mutual Anihilation EX.

A modified version of Battle Continuation that only lasts until the user is able to strike back against the one who killed them. This skill represents the refusal to go down alone, granted to those whose legends depict a last effort to take their enemy alongside them.

In Balor’s case, his eye will shoot forward with a massive amount of force, striking anything in front of it with the mass of a meteor. The eyeball is destroyed on impact, and then followed by a massive stream of thick poisonous blood that is enough to fill the entire crater formed by the impact.

    Noble Phantasm(s)

    Súil Triomach Uile-Chuimsitheach
Mystic Eye of Drought Under Seven Eyelids
    .

    Type: Anti-World
    Rank: EX

The namesake of this deformed god. The Evil Eye of Balor. His natural Mystic Eyes which were fused together in a freak accident with druidic magic.
Mystic Eyes are mechanisms through which magecraft is executed automatically through vision. Since Balor only possesses a single eye, he lacks depth perception, so his eyes can affect anything in his field of vision regardless of distance.

So potent is the power of his eye that it has been sealed under seven layers of shields sewn to his eyelid. In life, he needed seven formorian warriors to open his eye. One for each of the seals. As a Servant, this would usually lead to him containing his own Authority of the Formorian to summon seven powerful underlings instead of an unending number of middling ones, so that he could then open his eye.

But the unknown spheres that touched his spirit seem to have taken advantage of it to connect him to a different ritual imbued in the land of Rio de Janeiro: The pseudo-Holy Grail War.

    Furthermore…

Just as a certain family had passed down the mighty swords of the God of Light, another passed down the enhancing glass of the Formorian King.
Generation after generation, the O’Kerries preserved the Rainbow Glass of Balor.
That was not enough to them, so their family eventually migrated to Brazil, where they took advantage of the “magic mirror” foundations established there by tales such as The Magic Mirror of Truth, to modify their family legacy, resulting in a Mystic Code capable of also reflecting other’s eyes.

    And so…

The mysterious spheres have somehow managed to utilize that Mystic Code on the moon itself, which reflected the qualities of Balor’s Noble Phantasm onto the land taken over by the Túr Toraigh through the medium of the Holy Grail War ritual.
Seven Warriors summoned to this land. The objective of this ritual is to kill them and release their pure souls. Souls powerful enough to lift the seals of his eye on their way to the Grail.

Why was such a convoluted method necessary? The Inirandá Holy Grail is not powerful enough to summon a Divine Spirit, Maíra had planned to become a Pseudo-Servant to begin with.
Even the unknown force meddling with this land doesn’t seem to be able to sustain his materialization, so it needed conceptual proof that he exists. A reversal of causality. “The Evil Eye is affecting the land, therefore Balor must be here”.

Even so… to go to such an extent to aid this monstrous being. What is the goal of these foreign materials?

No one can tell. The only thing that is clear is the damage it has caused, the horror that is released as Servants die and each of the seals is released:

    First, foliage starts to wither.
Second, plants darken and dry. Around him, metal rusts.
Third, woods start heating, the water that is left in them boils.
Fourth, from the plants comes dark, putrid smoke that obscures the sky.
Fifth, the temperature reaches dangerous highs, the dry ground cracks, emitting waves of reddish heat.
Sixth, the cracks spark and sizzle, digging deeper unto the earth and causing earthquakes throughout the area.
    Seventh, everything burns.

    Túr Toraigh
    The Imperpetual Prison of Ethniu
    .

    Type: Anti-Self
    Rank: A

The Tower of Tory Island. The tower in which Balor imprisoned his own daughter in an attempt to thwart the prophecy that foretold one of her sons would kill him.
A bounded field that guarantees any plan Balor participates in goes smoothly… until someone finds its “Ethniu”.
Just like in the legends, there’ll be a single mistake. A single possibility to defeat him.

The bounded field encompasses the entirety of Rio de Janeiro.
More and more unconscious innocents die as the mad Servants rage.
Hy Breazáil is hidden by its mystical mist, but that won’t last forever.
It is rapidly approaching Ireland, either it’ll be unveiled on the way and reveal mystics to the world… or Balor will ascend to the High Throne.
The situation is dire, with so much already ruined in the first moments of this incident, how can this world ever be saved?

...the answer that must escape it.

While the almost-military attire might confuse those who meet him for the first time, this is the prolific Brazilian writer Machado de Assis. Born to a poor family in Imperial Brazil, he grew up to experience key events such as the establishment of the Republic and the abolition of slavery. Enamored with literature, he lived through massive societal, political and artistic changes in Brazil and in the world and integrated these experiences into his works. His current attire comes from the Brazilian Academy of Letters, the foremost institution dedicated to Brazilian language and literature, which he founded.

    Personality, Lore, Wish

His insecure and reclusive body language, coupled with occasional fits of stuttering, might give the impression that he’s a meek and weak-willed type, but those who talk with him will be met with a witty, ironic man that dresses his opinion in pessimism despite being a caring and hopeful person.

Machado’s life was defined by change and contradiction. He started his writing career as a romanticist but transitioned to realism, a style in which he published his three most famous works. The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas, Quincas Borbas and Dom Casmurro; the aptly named Realist Trilogy.
Despite that, he never let go of more classical tendencies, which defined the way he explored his characters and framed his narratives.

A black man trying to climb the social ladder in a society that despised and enslaved his people, Machado’s work was always laden with both veiled and apparent criticism of his contemporaries, as well as the pessimistic view of a man trapped in the cogs of a society that changes and evolves without ever solving its core issues.
And yet, his works also carry a thematic thread of longing and nostalgia. Of missing the older, better times that should’ve lasted longer

It’s a feeling he would come to understand on an even deeper level later in life.

He was 27 when he met his wife, Carola. They were inseparable, always talking about literature and exchanging numerous letters whenever they were apart. It’s even said that her reading preferences greatly influenced his transition to realism.
At one point, some friends of the couple learned about how Machado left the house at the same time every afternoon and hid his destination from Carola. The group decided to follow him, only to find that he was visiting the same painting every day. It depicted a woman who looked very much like Carola, and the truth was that he was suffering over not being able to afford it. Their friends promptly bought the painting as a gift.

Such sweet moments were common in their marriage.
A union that lasted 35 years, until death did them apart.

Machado never recovered from the death of his beloved. His health and mental state deteriorated over the next years. In his own words, “the best part of my life is gone and yet I remain alone in this world.”
He never stopped publishing, though the themes of longing became stronger with each work.

He died four years later, alone is their old house in Cosme Velho.

Never able to let go of those bygone days of happiness, Machado still wishes to see Carola again. Summoned to a time in which society consciously tries to address the evils of the era he grew up in, Caster only desires to experience it with her.

    Class Skills

    Territory Creation C.

This is the skill to build a special terrain that is advantageous to oneself as a magus, such as for the purpose of collecting mana.

He does not make a Workshop but rather a "Study", where he can spin stories.

    Item Construction —.

This is the skill to manufacture magical items, from implements of war to items for daily use. Also, this skill requires time to gather components and manufacture items.

The Item Construction skill is lost in favor of the unique Disenchant personal ability.

    Personal Skills

    Mana Burst (Pages) C.

This is a skill that increases attack power by adding one's excessive magic energy to the weapon; in this case, it is paper sheets.

A rumor spread among Machado’s admirers that he was a wizard, started by people who witnessed his habit of burning old letters over a cauldron.
Since Machado is not a magus, he cannot manipulate magical energy, but this anecdote has granted him the ability to store the energy collected through his Territory Creation into paper sheets. He can then release it in bursts.

    Disenchant B+.

Enchant is Literary Masterpiece Endowment, the skill to endow concepts to items. Disenchant is Literary Masterpiece Description, the ability to take away mystic concepts.

Enchant is an ability reliant on the writing ability of the user. The more passionate and detailed they can be when writing about the features of an item, the more mystical they’ll become. It can raise the sharpness of a blade by saying "it can cut all things" and increase the sturdiness of the blade by saying "it can receive all attacks", but either way, it requires literary expression great enough to move the readers in order for it to take effect.
This is also true of Disenchant. It’s a skill unique to Machado, representative of his ability to write distinctly real characters in a romantic manner that enraptures the reader just like the classic romances did. By describing the real characteristics of an item or person in passionate detail, he is able to isolate them from their mysticism, degrading any characteristics that do not belong in this world.

    Dom Casmurro C+.

Dom Casmurro is the story of a man consumed by mistrust and envy who attempts to tie together who he was and who he became by writing down his life story. This is a mental attack that nominates someone as “the Dom Casmurro who lives in the old street of Matacavalos”.

A malignant status that deteriorates one’s mental state by making them increasingly suspicious of those closest to their heart. It’s a feeling entirely alien to Machado himself, who only used it to criticize the decadent elite of Rio.
However, the intrigue of this novel is such that readers inevitably attempt to associate it with the writer himself. It’s a skill that could’ve become a Curse of the Readers if it wasn’t for the love story that also colors Machado in the imaginary of the public, so he is able to push those curses off himself and onto others, if necessary.

    Automatic Writing (Fake) D.

This is the skill to convey the message of spirits through writing. Be it by being possessed or by simply communicating with the dead in some other way, the user will unconsciously note down whatever the ghosts say.

Caster was never a psychic in life, but The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas fashions itself as a book written by a dead man. A self-biographical work written in the afterlife by a man who couldn’t let go of his earthly regrets.
So vivid are the descriptions of the afterlife, that some circles believe that the book is not truly Machado’s, but was actually psychographed.
As a Servant, Machado has the ability to write down the lives of any dead he encounters. He can force these lingering beings to tell their own lifestory through himself, but he cannot choose which part of their life they’ll describe nor how much time they’ll spend in each point of their life. An ability that sounds more useful than it is. Machado could write for days before the ghost finally gets to the information he desires to know.

    Noble Phantasm(s)

    Saudade
The Passing and Repassing in Review of Old Memories
    .

    Type: Anti-Unit
    Rank: C++

Longing. The innate desire for past held dear. An insatiable desire made necessity. Nostalgia.
The famous quote of Dom Casmurro, reminiscing on his love for Capitú. The feeling that reveals one’s true self.
A feeling that defines Caster. A writer that readily adapted to a new art movement without ever letting go of the qualities of the previous ones. A man glad to be in the present but unable to let go of what was in the past.
Not only that, but a more powerful application of his Automatic Writing.

A Noble Phantasm that allows him to trap others in the dear moments of their past, leaving them vulnerable to the real world. A mental influence that traces one’s memories backwards on the way to their dearest recollection. It cannot be classified as an attack, for it can only satisfy the longing in the heart of the target.

Furthermore, this is the key to solving Hy Breazáil, as long as it is used on the correct target.
Caipóra is an Elemental, a Nature Spirit. The will of Planet Earth given form through human imagination, manifested for the sake of protecting Gaia from the plundering of resources by humanity.
    A part of the planet.
    Her memories are its own.

By acquiring an absurd amount of magical energy and utilizing his Noble Phantasm on Caipóra, it’s possible that Machado will be able to rewind the memory of the planet itself, the
    liner
    band of events
    that led to the present.
The dearest moment of the Planet is obviously far before human civilization was established, a past too far away to reach, but if they are able to supply the exact amount of magical energy, they might be able to bring the planet back to before it was too late. It may still be possible to reach the Y2K Quantum Time Lock.

    Complicated Relationships

Though the nature of the incident poses a great challenge to the four magi that stand against it, they’ll also need to deal with their Servants. It is said that the relationship between Servant and Master is purely practical, and that the Master is sure to be killed if they ever lose control of their Servants by spending all their Command Spells.
Those are exaggerations, of course. Magi are an untrustworthy bunch, so it’s not surprising that they see Servants in such a suspicious light.

That said… their suspicions are not baseless. Servants can be fickle and unpredictable.

    Ragnar Lodbrok
Ragnar is perfectly willing to work under his Master, but d’Azur is timid and soft, the exact opposite of what he wants to see in a military commander of his. He’ll attempt to teach him to be a drengr, and if he wants to have a good relationship with the Berserker, d’Azur better cooperate and show results.
Ragnar has no problems with Babbage, but dislikes Orpheus’ meekness. It’s nothing that could cause a problem, specially when compared to the animosity that’s been building up between him and Niten…

    Charles Babbage
Agreeable and cooperative, Babbage is among the best Servants one could ask for. He feels a deep kinship with his Master over their similar ideals, and not only does he want to help him in this time of crisis, he also wants to leave something behind to help Eriswaldo and his land after he is gone. He’s worried that he’ll not be able to do so in time, and such worries might lead him to hesitate to risk his life in a moment of crisis, if such a situation ever comes up.

    Orpheus
Caster is a self-counscious mess. He questions his every move and is barely functional without his Master’s orders. He does not trust any of his own plans are the best course of action and will actively argue against ideas that match his own.
His second Noble Phantasm is very powerful and would be a massive asset in such a constraining incident, with such a narrow array of options available for these heroes, but he refuses to even acknowledge its existence.
The greatest challenge to Zephyr won’t be the enemies he has to face, but the mental health of his own Servant.
And even if he is able to help Orpheus, well… There’s no guarantee what he’ll do once they reach the Grail.

    Niten Dôraku
The most challenging personality is Niten Dôraku’s.
The man despises Orpheus’ constant self-doubts and repeatedly berates him, only making the situation worse. He sees the Caster as a poor parody of his own failures in life and is unwilling to accept it. This attitude also has him constantly butting heads with Ragnar, who doesn’t like Orpheus too much either, but is not about to let one of their companions abuse him like this.

That's not all. When the Servants were summoned, they received the knowledge of what was happening: something from beyond this world is pushing things along, trying to cause the removal of all worlds in which the Rio de Janeiro Pseudo-Holy Grail War happened.
The problem is, in his grief over the pointlessness of Mikinosuke’s death, Saber is convinced that the Theoretical Pruning Phenomenon is correct and, furthermore, is supportive of the idea of something driving it for their own purpose. It is, after all, proof that everything that happens does so for a reason: every tragedy and success will continue to be or cease to exist based on someone’s desires. It’s a narrowing down of possibilities. A large-scale Multi-Dimensional Exclusory Phenomenon. The essence of Niten Ichi-ryû.

Unless his Master somehow notices that he still carries this grief and attempts to mend his heart, Saber will sabotage the mission in the end. He’ll kill Machado before he is able to rewind back enough, destroying any chances of this world making to the Y2K Quantum Timelock.

    How the 4 Magi Succeeded

    Coming Soon...

    The Next Incident

The stage for the second incident is a time of peace, the year of 2019.
The longest and hottest summer of Denmark is coming to an end, a bright future beyond it!
However, the cost of this prosperity might be too hefty a price…

    Appendix

Don't expect such an absurd length on the next one. Holy shiiiiit.

Though I'm not yet all that familiar with some of the magecraft concepts and lore it mentions, the Hy Breazáil singularity absolutely was a very entertaining read. Well done!

Glad to you sniping Machado de Assis. I considered him for the roles of Caster in El Dorado, but I ended up going for someone else. At the same time, I love how you went about making these storie about preventing timelines from being pruned at specific Quantum Time Locks. And of course that the first one had to be a combo of Brazil with the mythological Hy-Breazil.

Gotta love those punny storytelling moments.

I should have my own announcement ready to go in a bit. Just need to master the art of photoshop.

It was all over in the blink of the eye.

    Chaldea.

    The world.

    Everything.

As if a massive beast had swallowed the world whole, darkness settled upon the sky as its teeth sank on the defenseless flesh of our home. Raining down from the sky, pillars of cold light descended upon the land as if to signal the beginning of the end.

And in a certain way, it was.

The last bastion of Human Order lay in ruins.

Its few remnants sinking deep beneath the icy crust, tails tucked firmly between their legs as the enemy gave chase. The valiant heroes who fought to preserve humanity’s future and overturn the Incineration watched in despair as their home was encased in a tomb of ice and snow.

With their last reserves of strength and personnel, the Shadow Border vanished from the face of the planet. Leaving behind a soon to be dead world in their search for safety.

Da Vinci (Lily): Is everyone accounted for?

Sherlock Holmes: We rescued as many as we could. 11 engineers, 3 Servants, Director Gordes, Vice Director Edelfelt.

Da Vinci (Lily): What of the Masters?

    Sherlock Holmes: All accounted for.

Da Vinci (Lily): That’s a relief. Had we lost any of them… I fear our morale would have plummeted to the bottom of the barrel.

Sherlock Holmes: If only it were so simple. I’m afraid that our erstwhile friends are suffering just as much regardless. The loss of Chaldea is a harsh blow. And our escape into Imaginary Number Space has only pushed the envelope further.

    In short…

???: It was our complete loss.

Da Vinci (Lily): Ah! You’re back! I trust everyone is accommodated?

Galahad: As much as possible. I’m afraid my Master has yet to fully grasp the loss of her abilities as a Demi Servant.

Sherlock Holmes: Being summoned while under attack mustn’t have been easy either.

Galahad: I will cope. Once the Command Seal wears off, my Saint Graph should stabilize.

Da Vinci (Lily): I’m surprised you aren’t upset about that.

Galahad: Foolishness. One shouldn’t focus on how things ought to be, but as they are. It wasn’t my intent to be summoned. It wasn’t Master’s intent to summon me. Nor was it her intent to lose her abilities. We must all learn to adapt to our new circumstances as best we can.

Sherlock Holmes: As expected of Camelot’s finest.

Da Vinci (Lily): Alright then! Why don’t you two get settled down as well? I need to run some more tests.

Sherlock Holmes: I will see to it.

    Galahad:

Da Vinci (Lily): Is something the matter?

Galahad: What do you make of this?

Da Vinci (Lily): You’re gonna have to be more specific.

Galahad: The assault on Chaldea. That Koyanskaya woman using an unwitting magus to simply waltz into the heart of humanity’s last line of defense? One as intelligent as yourself must have a guess.

Da Vinci (Lily): Well, its not hard to tell that this was a coordinated assault. And those Pillars of Light didn’t appear at all encouraging. Whatever is happening out there was clearly intentional, and our presence was seen as an obstacle to be disposed of. Unfortunately there’s not much else we can do with so little data.

    Galahad:

Da Vinci (Lily): Unless you have a guess you’re willing to share.

Galahad: …Different. Things are different. Not as they were meant to be.

Da Vinci (Lily): So you were aware something like this was going to happen.

Galahad: Call it a hunch. My summoning was forced and as a result I have lost much of my awareness. The path once laid before us has been closed. Whatever has caused this to happen, isn’t interested in mere observation.

Da Vinci (Lily): The path laid before us…?

Galahad: How many Lights did you see descend from the heavens?

    Da Vinci (Lily): Nine…

    There were Nine.

Director Gordolf : “Preposterous! Simply preposterou! Do they expect us to share quarters?! And why do the masters get to keep the largest room?!”

Vice-Director Edelfelt: “Mayhaps because they are the largest group?”

Director Gordolf “You cannot be seriously considering this… this…”

Vice-Director Edelfelt: “Disaster, Musik. This is nothing short of an unmitigated disaster the likes which humanity hasn’t seen since the Incineration incident;”

Director Gordolf: “Exactly! A disaster of epic proportions! How can they expect me to lead them through this crisis without being afforded my dues as the new Director?!”

Vice-Director Edelfelt: “Calm down, Director. If you keep walking back and forth, you might open a hole on the floor.”

Director Gordolf: “W-Why…I assure you my leg muscles, despite being the pinnacle of the Musik Family’s upbringing, don't have such strength!”

Vice-Director Edelfelt: “It is a modern idiom, Director.”

Director Gordolf: “O-oh?! Yes, well, I was playing along with it! Yes! I knew you weren’t being literal.”

Vice-Director Edelfelt: “Of course, Director. I wouldn’t dream to think otherwise.”

Director Gordolf : “And that woman! How dare she betray m- us! Betray us! Nay! Betray humanity as a whole! She better have one hell of an explanation! And reimbursement! Does she know how much it cost me to hire the NFF?!”

    ‘Sigh’

Vice-Director Edelfelt: “Focus, Director. Somehow I doubt an enemy of humanity will acquiesce to your demands.”

Director Gordolf : “Yes! Yes! I’m aware of that. And as Chaldea’s new Director it is my solemn duty to seek restitution, yes! I’m simply doing my job!”

‘Maybe I should have convinced Miss Reines to come along’

    Fujimaru Ritsuka: “Feeling better?”

Mash Kyrielight: “Just a bit dizzy, Senpai.”

Fujimaru Ritsuka: “Maybe we should have Da Vinci take a look at you later? You have been tired in the past, but never for this long.”

Mash Kyrielight: “I don’t think there is anything usual about these circumstances, Senpai.”

Fujimaru Ritsuka: “Yeah, I guess we’re not in Kansas anymore, huh?”

Mash Kyrielight: “Chaldea was in the arctic, Master.”

Fujimaru Ritsuka: “Figure of speech, Mash.”

    Mash Kyrielight: “Apologies. I’m a bit distracted…”

Fujimaru Ritsuka:“I think everyone is, Mash. But its not that what’s really bothering you. Why don’t we start with that.”

Mash Kyrielight: “He must hate me.”

Fujimaru Ritsuka: “You mean Galahad? He doesn’t really strike me as the sort to hold a grudge.”

Mash Kyrielight: “We weren’t supposed to mess with him like that. I wasn’t supposed to make that call. Not when I have already used his powers before. I shouldn’t have have breached his trust like that.”

Fujimaru Ritsuka: “Mash, that wasn’t your fault. We were going to die back there.”

Mash Kyrielight: “I know!… I just… Maybe I wasn’t meant to get my powers back? And he decided to manifest rather than lend them to me again?”

Fujimaru Ritsuka: “But he is here. And he helped us escape.”

Mash Kyrielight: “Because of your command seal, Master. I mean… I guess I should say ‘my’ command seals now. Once the command fades, what reason does he have to help us? Won’t he just go back to the throne?”

Fujimaru Ritsuka: “I don’t know. But he stood by you all this time. So have a little bit of faith in him, okay?”

    Mash Kyrielight: “I…I’ll try, senpai.”

    He, too, would try.

Because as much as she blamed herself for this. Ritsuka still felt responsible all the same for his Kouhai.

Kadoc Zemlupus: “They’re taking an awful lot of time there?

Lidyavogel Niemeyer: “Think they’re breaking up?”

    ‘Sigh’

Kadoc Zemlupus: “You’re awfully forward for a magus, aren’t you?”

Lidyavogel Niemeyer: “Oh? That’s my natural charm! Del said so!”

Kadoc Zemlupus: “Of the airheaded variety, I’m sure.”

Lidyavogel Niemeyer: “He says that too!”

Kadoc Zemlupus: “No, I don’t think they were even together, Niemeyer.”

Lidyavogel Niemeyer: “Oh, poo. I’d have loved it if they were. All the drama and heartbreak. The romance of two star crossed lovers. That’s what life should be about!”

    Kadoc Zemlupus: “... romance?”

    Lidyavogel Niemeyer: “Precisely.”

    She nodded in absolute certainty.

Kadoc Zemlupus: “From what hole did the Vice Director dig you up from again? Germany?”

    Lidyavogel Niemeyer: “Brazil, actually.”

Kadoc Zemlupus: “Well, that makes all sense and none at all.”

Lidyavogel Niemeyer: “Well, it makes sense, doesn’t it? We weren’t the first choices for Masters after all. We were the second stringers who were left out of the project just in case we were needed to sub in for someone important. But since everyone else is a popsicle right now, we had to be called in as Chaldea’s new Masters.”

Kadoc Zemlupus: “Fat load of good that did. The world just ended.”

Lidyavogel Niemeyer: “Meh, shit happens. We just need to find a way to fix it.”

Kadoc Zemlupus: “You’re awfully cavalier for a magus.”

Lidyavogel Niemeyer: “Hey now, that’s what Chaldea is for, isn’t it?”

Kadoc Zemlupus: “Yeah, yeah. But in case you haven’t noticed, Chaldea’s pretty banged up and we are on a proverbial lifeboat.”

Lidyavogel Niemeyer: “That just makes it all the best for us, newbie!”

    Kadoc Zemlupus: “N-Newbie?!”

Lidyavogel Niemeyer: “It is in times of peril where side characters like us can come out and become popular. Now that Chaldea is in danger and we are driven against the wall, its the perfect time to show off what Lidya and Kadoc are made of!”

Kadoc Zemlupus: “Don’t go and give us a team name, you airhead!”

Lidyavogel Niemeyer: “See, you’re already talking like a good partner. Welcome aboard, Delfinger II!”

Kadoc Zemlupus: “What kinda shitty alias is that!”

This is a message to those who yet linger.

A declaration of finality if you will.

The world, as of today, has ended.

In what could only be called a far distant possibility, the World of Man has finally reached its conclusion at the hands of a foreign invader. In the coming weeks, civilization will be uprooted, mankind itself will cease to exist and the very surface of the world shall be returned to nothingness.

    Rapture is upon us.

However, that need not be the end.

Enclosed in this message are a set of coordinates where those who survive may find a doorway to the New World. A refuge in faraway possibilities where humanity has long since ceased to exist. Use this map, follow the pillars of light which have descended from the skies.

If you truly wish to survive.

If mankind wishes to continue, then this is your last path forward.

Those who wish to continue onwards. Those who wish to survive and carry within themselves the will to live and rebuild. I urge you to follow the coordinates. Find the worlds devoid of ‘humanity’. The Lost Worlds were our kind has long since been purged from their surface. Fight, kill, negotiate, bribe, beg, do everything in your powers to push forward. As the last bastions of life upon the bleached white Earth, claim the worlds lost to humanity, for the sake of our continuity, create a new what has been lost.

I, Veronica Bonjiovani, and my cohorts await your arrival.

As the last humans, I assure you. Regardless of who you were, regardless of what sins and virtues you have piled up. Regardless of the life you left behind and the pain you now carry. I shall welcome all who arrive at my doorstep. Abandon all hope of returning to the nostalgic world of the past.

    Welcome, ladies and gentlemen.

    To the New World.

Well done, Wyvern. I don't comment enough on your stuff, but I wanna say thanks for your efforts in crafting the worlds you've done so far. They're always a treat, vivid enough to feign canonicity and scratch that itch that official content both inspires and, sometimes, falls short of.
McJon01: We all know that the real reason Archer would lose to Rider is because the events of his own Holy Grail War left him with a particular weakness toward "older sister" types.

    Not at all.

You can think of this scenario as a What If something else had taken place instead of the Lostbelt Crisis. In this case, Humanity, soon to go extinct by the actions of a 'Foreign Invader', is told to seek refuge in the nine Coordinates which lead to Lost Worlds where humanity doesn't exist in order to rebuild civilization. Far from being lostbelts, these can be more accurately described as being similar to Avalon Le Fay or the Tunguska Sanctuary, where 'other' life forms reign supreme, or humanity has already gone extinct.

Veronica Bonjiovani is the public face of this new group of enemies who might or might not have something to do with the attack on Chaldea and the arrival of the Foreign Invader.

Oh, you wouldn't believe how much those words mean to me.

I'd like to think I am finally becoming part of the community, you know? And its stuff like that which keeps me coming back to these ideas. Again, thank you for your kind words. And I hope you enjoy the ride.
