Night Phase
Throughout the day, Alicia and you ventured through the streets of Miyama in search for survivors. As per your Master's orders, the two of you put emphasis on patrolling the School District, the reason why still not clear to you. It might have been the first thing that came to Alicia's mind when she was pressured to answer, or it might have had a deeper meaning, like the desire to meet others like herself. There is no sane parent out there who would send their children to the school under these circumstances, though. This 'Holy Grail War' you have been summoned into is breaking every rule you are aware of, starting with the obligation to keep the supernatural under wraps. That is to say, whereas the death of several bystanders is to be expected in a death-match like this one, there would always be an unspoken rule of keeping things as discrete as possible. Even when that is to fail, there would always be some sort of Special Organization out there to cover the truth and put the blame on something mundane, something that people without knowledge of the Moonlit world would easily accept.
... Nothing can be further from that ideal tournament than the reality in front of your eyes.
Survivors? Not one to be found. Not in the School District, at the very last. The reason behind it should be obvious from a glance. The School District has been clearly the most affected by the singularity that manifested itself last night. There are traces of human presence alright, but not one of them has managed to keep their life. The exact time or cause of death is hard to figure out, mostly because most corpses have been reduced to chunks of meat splattered against the wall and other surfaces. Being the adult in charge, you had to take extra cautionary measures to avoid your Master from witnessing such scenes. What you know for sure is that this amount of damage cannot be brought about by a single force. And whatever it was, whatever they were, they certainly were not human. To call them beasts would be an underestimation, as well.
Yes, the ones responsible cannot be anything less than Monsters.
Claw marks on nearly every wall, entire houses reduced to nothing but piles of rubble and an abundance of the color red all serve to enforce your theory. Yeah, there is no one left to be rescued here. It's a depressing prospect, as your trip has not yielded any sort of benefit from a moral or strategic standpoint, but at least you managed to give your Master a tip or two on how to defend herself against the invisible threat that awaits. And it seems like the grim atmosphere has helped the little Master to take your advice to heart...
Now, the evening is leaving its place to the night and you should head back to the Inn, as promised. The mist might be coming back soon and those back there have no reliable bodyguard to protect them were a shade to attack like the night before.
At the same time... There is one place left to explore.
Ironically, that is the Academy itself, Homurahara Gakuen, as the sign by the rusty gate read. You weren't here to see the original in its full splendor, but anyone can tell that this version pales in comparison to it. In addition to the damage present that is similar to the other buildings in the nearby area, there are clear signs of natural deterioration that make the school feel a lot more ominous, like a haunted house, and that's only from the outside. You have yet to step past the gate into its desolate yard...
This is just your guts, your instincts talking...
But the School District being the most affected might not be just a simple coincidence. You may as well be standing in the epicenter of the storm, looking at the origin of this whole tragedy.
You know Alicia and you need to go back to the Inn...
But, given how volatile things are since yesterday, this might be the only chance there is to explore this area with freedom. No, to explore this area at all.
In order words, a decision needs to be made...
